It's a take-over episode for the ages - as The Family Business meets Metro Life Worship in a episode with The God and Gigs Show ! In late 2023, worship leader Stephanie Muiña was interviewed by our producer / fellow worship musician Allen C. Paul on his podcast, The God and Gigs Show, and it was a perfect example of how we navigate relationships and family in worship and the music industry. The God and Gigs Show is a podcast and community for Christian creatives, musicians and entrepreneurs helping them to thrive as they work in the mainstream arts and entertainment field. Together, you'll hear Stephanie and Allen open up about things you rarely hear from worship leaders, such as: - How they lead a local team while still making an impact globally - Whether creatives can stay organized - Developing consistency in character in a ministry - Handling the pressure of family expectations and church roles - Knowing when to be patient as your ministry and gifts mature This "feed-drop" episode will show you what it really means to expand your family business into all new areas, and give you a birds-eye view into a creative process few people ever get to witness. If the title of this episode offends you, that's the point. In every area of our modern culture, being offended has become a badge of honor, even among men who once had the strength to stand on convictions rather than being overly sensitive. To combat this epidemic of emotional drama, Steve Alessi welcomes back his life-long friend and guest Pastor Steve Hage, as they challenge men to embrace their masculinity and avoid easily taking offense. You'll learn why men need to support and sharpen each other, and how they are sometimes discouraged from being strong emotionally. You'll be challenged to trust in God rather than people, to love others unconditionally, and to celebrate the role of strong men in a society that desperately needs them. Is celebrity church culture destroying the spirit of serving others in ministry? And how do we protect our own ministry and family from this destructive mindset? In this episode, discover how the Alessis have avoided falling prey to feelings of entitlement as pastors and worship leaders, as they share personal anecdotes and insights about the importance of stepping out of comfort zones in ministry to build valuable relationships and support systems. This episode was inspired by the backlash received by speaker, author and worship leader Natalie Runion, founder of the "Raised to Stay" platform when she pointed out the hypocrisy of pastors and worship leaders staying enclosed in green rooms instead of engaging in worship services and connecting with the congregation. Tap here to read the Raised to Stay "Green Room" post That post, and the recent events at the GMA Dove Awards simply uncovered a lot of controversy that is happening behind the scenes in many prominent churches. As veterans in the ministry and recording industry, the Alessis have witnessed the tendency of musicians and artists to become entitled and covetous of special treatment, and you'll learn how to keep that mentality out of your family ministry, church, or staff as a church leader. Are our future leaders really ready to lead? Not if they have missed out on their greatest asset - the knowledge of those that paved the way. Here you'll learn why honoring and learning from the wisdom of senior leaders in ministry or other organizations is imperative when the next generation is preparing to take a seat of leadership. There's a common misconception that younger generations have more insight and is more up to date, while the older generation is often seen as resistant to change. As ministers, staff members and pastor's kids, Christopher Alessi and his sister Stephanie Muiña discuss the importance of the next generation partnering with and learning from the older generation, recognizing their wisdom and honoring their contributions. What do you do when you're hurt in the place where you sought healing? In an environment where several high-profile ministries and pastors have been critiqued and exposed in the media for moral and ethical failures, how does a family dedicated to ministry respond? Is it possible to avoid the pain and disconnection that church hurt can cause? In this raw and honest conversation, we share our insights on managing expectations within the church, how to determine when church hurt is a valid emotion, and the importance of trusting in the valuable relationship with God found in a local church. Sharing our personal stories, we discuss how we've grown from these experiences and how crucial grace and responsibility are for both pastors and churchgoers. We also explore how to discern between good and bad pastors, recognize their role and calling, and understand the intentions of people when joining a church. Please share this powerful episode with a friend or family member who needs to know what to do with church hurt, directly from folks who know the church inside and out. It's one thing to honor your father. It's quite another to honor him while you work for him. In this powerful episode, Chris Alessi welcomes his good friend Caleb Thomas to the Family Business to discuss their experiences as sons who chose to work for their fathers in ministry. They open up about the honor principle that has guided their decisions as they each followed a father's footsteps, and explore how those choices molded them into the people they are today. As they reflect on their relationships with their fathers, and their roles as co-workers and proteges, you'll learn powerful concepts of legacy, submission, and setting an example for your own children. Listen in as these two pastor's sons reveal the immense impact that a good father can have on his children - even in a unique, demanding ministry environment. Caleb Thomas is a staff pastor at Free Life Chapel in Lakeland FL, where he serves under his parents Pastors Scott and Cindy Thomas. In this powerful episode, you'll discover how real friends can help you bounce back from the most devastating moments of your life - even when you both are going through them at the same time. Host Steve Alessi welcomes his lifelong friend David Martinez, one of the founding members of Metro Life Church, who was instrumental in helping Steve recover from his heart attack in 2007. In this episode, Mary Alessi and her daughter Lauren tell their story of receiving a life-altering diagnosis in Lauren's teen years, how their decision on whether to use medications affected their family, and how they moved forward to give Lauren the best chance at a fulfilled and happy life. When a child gets a scary diagnosis from a doctor, fear can overwhelm a parent. It's then that parents face a hard choice - whether to place their children on medications that may affect their lives in unknown ways. Christians especially often have opposing views when it comes to faith, family and medicine, and The Alessis had to navigate these same issues as a family when both Lauren and her sister Gabrielle were diagnosed with epilepsy in their teens. You'll discover how to keep an open mind, and how to make the best choices for your family when you face a difficult diagnosis. Want to watch this episode? In this episode, Jonathan joins Steve Alessi at The Family Business table to share his powerful story of love, loss and renewal. Every parent wants their child to be happy, healthy and secure in their identity... but our culture is full of voices that can cause massive confusion in our kids. These voices have now escalated by questioning a core portion of a child's identity - gender. Once a foregone conclusion, this debate over identity has now entered the court of public opinion and has become a battle in classrooms around the country. In the midst of all the noise, how can parents guide their children confidently to embrace who they are and how God has designed them? In this powerful episode, Steve and Mary Alessi sit down with their daughter and Metro Life Church youth director, Gaby Alessi, to help families sort out these sensitive but vital conversations, and to understand the authority that parents must embrace in order to raise their children in a way that will protect their minds and set them on the right path. Moms: Do you ever wonder if anyone really understands what you go through? If so, you're likely looking for a 'mom friend' - someone in your circle who can support you and be there as you raise your family and handle all the pressures that come with it. After over 30 years of sharing friendship, motherhood, family, business and ministry, Mary Alessi and Mory Martinez have learned the value of having a real friend by your side as you navigate the seasons of life. Mory Martinez, along with her husband David, were founding members of Metro Life Church when Steve and Mary Alessi started the ministry in 1997 - in fact, the first meeting of the church took place in the Martinez' living room. Since serving as the church's first children's ministry director, Mory has worked alongside the Alessis as a pivotal part of the family business in a variety of capacities. Throughout their 38 years of marriage, she and David have built a thriving construction business, raised three children, and have been blessed with five grandchildren. Mory is an avid photographer in her spare time and loves to spend time in natural environments. In this touching episode, these two dedicated moms, wives, ministry leaders and businesswomen explain how motherhood and friendship intertwine and how their relationship helped them successfully guide their children into meaningful, blessed lives as adults. Special children deserve special parents. Raising children always takes a huge amount of love and patience, but for some parents, it requires even more - due to additional physical, mental and emotional challenges their children face. Parents of special needs children play a unique role in the effort to give their children the best life possible, and we brought in a dear friend of our family business, Tony Villasuso, to share how his family has handled caring for a child with special needs. Antonio Villasuso is the Miami Centers Director of the Miami Rescue Mission, an organization dedicated to caring for the homeless men, women, and children of South Florida. He and his wife Debbie are parents to Joshua, their teenage son, who is on the autism spectrum and was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at an early age. Throughout Joshua's life, Tony and Debbie have worked tirelessly to provide the best educational, medical, social and spiritual environments that would allow their son to thrive. In this episode, you'll learn how parents of children with special needs process the daily decisions they face, and how you too can grow in your understanding of the dedication that parenting requires. Since 2020, our children have experienced more world-altering events than many adults have faced in a lifetime. Whether its war and conflict in the Ukraine, or debates and medical uncertainty over COVID, our kids are constantly bombarded with news that could fill them with anxiety and fear. In this bonus episode of The Family Business with The Alessis, we talked with entrepreneur and YouTube creator Tim Schmoyer about how he and his wife are successfully managing a large family while growing a mission centered, influential business - so that you can do the same. Tim Schmoyer is the founder of Video Creators, a media consulting agency that has been featured by FOX, Forbes, the BBC, and even by YouTube themselves. They work to build YouTube strategy for brands like Disney, HBO, Budweiser, eBay, Warner Brothers, television stars, and new creators alike. Tim's story began as a youth minister earning barely enough to support him and his wife. He began producing 'vlogs', as they were then called, long before YouTube was popular. Based on the success of those vlogs, Tim in 2011 became the first creator to start training YouTube creators how to reproduce those results. In this conversation, Steve Alessi and Tim Schmoyer discuss the day-to-day decisions and values needed to keep a thriving business and a busy family running smoothly. He talks transparently about the struggles he and his wife endured on the way to the blessings they are now enjoying, and explains the powerful mission that keeps him motivated and striving for better work-life balance. Have you ever wondered how pastors develop their sermons? And what happens if you have a father and son team - or a senior and junior leader - who often share the same platform? How do they make it all work without sending mixed messages? Those two questions are being answered this week by Steve Alessi and his son, Chris Alessi, who together work in their family business of ministry at Metro Life Church in Miami, FL. In this episode, they discuss the similarities and differences in how they do their specific job of communicating with the church, and share the rarely revealed process of developing messages and sermons. What does your name say about you? Do you have a lasting legacy attached to your family name? And if not, can you start building a legacy that future generations will be proud to carry? The Alessi family name would not be what it is today without Rev. John Alessi, Steve Alessi’s father, who pastored in Miami for over 60 years and was instrumental in launching Steve and Mary into their calling of ministry. Pastor John exemplified service to his church, his family and his community, and was married for over 60 years to his wonderful wife, Ann Alessi. Rev. John Alessi was called home to his eternal reward in October 2020, but his legacy lives on on in two generations of Alessis that continue to operate in the family business of ministry. Exactly one year following his passing, Miami-Dade County honored Pastor John’s work by naming the street in front of his church Rev. John Alessi Street. In this episode, Steve and Mary Alessi reflect on the blessing of a good name, and explore how Pastor John’s life helped to cement the Alessi name as one being full of legacy and purpose. They openly talk about how they embraced the responsibility to honor their name, and explain how you can do the same no matter what your past experiences have been - so that your name can be remembered for all the right reasons. Every parent wants the best education for their children, but these days, it’s very difficult to decide where that education should take place. The Alessis faced the same decision, and they eventually settled on a solution - homeschooling. Steve and Mary Alessi made the switch to homeschooling as they raised their four children and now they are sharing their insights and advice to parents who are considering making the move to homeschooling. In this episode you’ll learn how to find the time, resources and community support to make this transition even if you are working full-time, or worried about the quality of your child's education. You’ll see that homeschooling is more than a fringe community or a fad, but instead a rich and beautiful way to lead and guide your children into becoming responsible, well-educated and confident adults. Who - or what - should be the center of attention in your family? Many parents make their children the singular focus of their family's choices and decisions. But maybe....that's not the best parenting method if you want to raise confident, successful children. In this episode of The Family Business with The Alessis, Steve and Mary Alessi reveal how they intentionally lived out their faith and made the hard choices that helped their children become strong, confident young adults. Listen and discover why successful parenting often requires making the tough choices that your children will appreciate in the not-too-distant future. What You'll Learn During This Episode The only way our children will grow spiritually is if we intentionally model love for God and our commitment to a community of faith. Family life should be focused around the activities that sustain the family as a whole, rather than making children and their desires the central focus. ( Parents must refuse to give in to the temptation of allowing their children to choose their own way spiritually without parental input. Whether children want to go to church or not, parents must lead by example and make attendance and service in a local, healthy church a priority. Quotes from The Alessi Family “Every family needs to have a single focus and vision.” - Mary Alessi “He’s not just a Sunday God, He’s a daily God. “ - Steve Alessi “When it comes to a relationship with Christ, you cannot water it down.
