Leah, @lainflight, just got back from an eye-opening trip to El Salvador! This episode recounts her recent journey, diving into the vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes with a help of our guest, James Hammond of Winging It Travel Podcast, who also took a trip a month prior to Leah's. They share about accommodations, and experiences with the incredible Salvadoran cuisine: pupusas sizzling on street corners, fresh seafood along the coast, and the rich, dark coffee that fueled their adventures. Of course, no trip to El Salvador is complete without exploring its majestic volcanoes. However, travel rarely goes perfectly, so catch this episode to unpack the highs and lows of their Salvadoran adventure, offering a realistic glimpse into this captivating country that once was feared to visit. This episode delves into the unique experiences of our amazing guest, Lydia Chu, who grew up as a Third Culture Kid (TCK). TCKs are people who have spent a significant portion of their formative years living in cultures other than their parents' original culture - but as we've learned throughout the years, definition of a TCK can vary. The episode explores how this multicultural upbringing has shaped the way Lydia approaches travel. We discuss topics such as cultural adaptability, global perspective, and travel style. Barcelona. Venice. Paris. Amsterdam. Bali. Machu Picchu. The Great Barrier Reef. These are all popular tourist destinations - maybe even TOO popular. How has overtourism impacted a city? Is overtourism a pro or a con? During Leah’s most recent travels to the Netherlands, she hung out with friends that lived outside of the popular, Amsterdam. A large discussion was had when they told her about the minor changes being done to prevent more overtourism in the city. This led to learning and hearing more from locals, articles, etc. about the impacts of what tourism can do for the people living there. What are your thoughts of overtourism while traveling, and what feasible suggestion(s) do you have to help combat the negative effects of it? Have you always wanted to try a hostel, but didn't know what to expect? Do you want to meet others while traveling across the globe? Are you a budget backpacker looking for ways to keep saving money? This episode is your one-stop shop to perfecting the art of staying in hostels... and no, it does not happen overnight, it may not even happen in 1 year. Hostels are not what they were 20, 25, 30 years ago. These days they are more like boutique hotels that can bunk 8 or 12 people at one large room at a time! So many perks of hostels can now include free breakfast, curtains/lockers/personal lights in each bunks, pools and spas, tours and activities, bars/gyms/restaurants on-site, coworking spaces, yoga and biking classes, movie theaters, laundry rooms, and even cafes on the ground floor! We also cover a bit of hostel culture in the USA and how it's growing and accommodating the new working traveler. This episode has been a LONG TIME COMING. Introducing: Our Top 10 Favorite Places in the World. Trizzy and Leah talk you through their absolute favorite trips on this planet: from national parks, to big cities, to entire countries. In each of these special trips, we talk about why we love that particular place, best way to use transport there or how to get there, any hot tips or travel advice to keep in mind, any must-dos, must-see, or what to eat while there, and even recommend accommodation. The standard answer to anyone asking "What's your favorite place you've been to?" is usually something cheesy like "Every place has their own special qualities," HOWEVER if the stakes were high and we HAD to choose, Trizzy and Leah have each picked a top 5 favorites place to travel. What does Filipino-American History Month (October) actually mean? Is it ube-flavored lattes and lumpia? Is it Manny Pacquiao and an obsession with Kobe Bryant? Leah and Trizzy dive deeper into the contributions, success, trials, and culture of Filipino-Americans and their history and shaping of the United States. Even though Leah is a first-generation Filipino-American, she didn't truly feel connected to or understand her Filipino roots until going off to university. How can you tell if a homestay is any good? Is it number of reviews? A perfect 5-star rating? Is it on all the booking sites? Is it REAL? This episode is for those travelers who are looking for sharper ways to evaluate what actually makes an excellent homestay, what to do when you find THE ONE for your trip, and how to maximize your time there. Visiting Hawaii shouldn't be a topic of contention, but it is! As often and as much as we go, sometimes it's an internal battle thinking "are we contributing to the overtourism?" Not to shame anyone that travels to this tropical American paradise just 6 hours west of California (we believe it's literal paradise on Earth & should be explored properly and enjoyed), but at what cost to the locals and animals? This episode is a thinkpiece and our personal experiences on why you should (and SHOULD NOT) visit the Aloha State. "Don't be kak, be lekker!" A phrase that most South Africans live their life by, which roughly translates to "be an awesome person." Leah aka @LAinFlight spent the entire month of January and half of February exploring the Southern Hemisphere and "The Mother City" in particular, by posting up in Cape Town for the month. In this episode you'll learn how Leah worked remotely using a 24/7 workspace and her fully furnished apartment (despite the loadshedding), how she emersed herself in the local culture and cuisine, tried to learn some Xhosa and learn the deep history of South Africa in general, and how to explore Cape Town's nature, winelands, hikes, and local road trips. You'll also learn what she prepared beforehand, how she packed, and some important tips while on the ground. This episode is sponsored by Rhino, a social app that focuses on diversity in travel, and enables people from every background to share and discover travel experiences through photo and video. Download Rhino for free today in the Apple App Store or in Google Play . Here's something we haven't spoken much about on Ticket 2 Anywhere Podcast: our identities. We chat plenty about what kind of traveler we are, the easiest way to see places, and how we travel, but in this episode we got to dig into the root of who we really are. With Leah being Asian-American and Trizzy being Asian-American and LGBTQ+, we're proud of who we are and honor to travel the way that we do, in hopes to spread kindness and understanding across the globe. We were both raised to respect all races and cultures, but what happens when you travel to a place that doesn't necessarily do the same? This episode details how we plan travel around safety and acceptance, what resources we tap into, and our experiences around the world. What makes Rhino different is you can create a profile to add your identity, and all your experiences and photos will be added to that community! Rhino is challenging the travel industry's one-size-fits-all approach and aims to center perspectives that are often sidelined. We are starting a new series that highlights local business owners and dives into life, business, travel, and literally anything else they want to talk about... because we all know local shops are the backbone of any community, and we try to show them the love they deserve. Trizzy and Leah buy and support local wherever they go, whether it's shopping in Southeast Asia or right here at home in Los Angeles. Our first "Local Edition" guest is Chuck Herrera of Good People Coffee Company in West Los Angeles, California. This coffee shop is special to us because one cool LA morning in October, Trizzy made Leah run the Santa Monica stairs with her & then we both tried Good People Coffee Co for the first time - where the idea of our podcast "Ticket 2 Anywhere" was born. "They say when you die, you don't go to heaven... You go to The Philippines!" This is a very special (Leah's) birthday episode about the time she visited the motherland: the Philippines! Erin from Alpaca My Bags invited Leah on the show to talk about heritage travel, what it's like traveling to a country that could be considered "home", and growing up as a first-generation American. This Philippines trip took place from January 2020-February 2020, just in time. This month-long pilgrimage to the motherland was spent half with travelers and locals met in hostels, and the other half was spent with family island hopping and going to weddings! Listen in closely to see how this trip impacted Leah's adult life and the way she travels now. We hope you consider a 2+ week trip to this wonderful Southeast Asian country. How often do you return to the same place? This episode takes us back to visiting New Orleans in 2008 for a collegiate marketing conference versus visiting in 2022 for a women's travel conference. In our former trips to the city in 2008, 2010, and 2011, all we cared about was drinking, partying, and eating whatever we could afford, with 6 of us packed into a Sheraton room on Canal. Flash forward 11+ years later, and we're exploring every oyster house, coffee shop, walking tour, and bike route New Orleans has to offer. With a little more time, a lot more motivation and way more money, we explored The Big Easy exactly the way we wanted, all while meeting incredible global women at Wanderfest, hosted by Wanderful. Tune in for some of our funniest memories and best travel recommendations if you're traveling to New Orleans soon! What is Wanderfest? What to do with a weekend in New Orleans? What does fried alligator actually taste like? To answer all these questions and more, listen up! You probably searched "Wanderfest" or "Wanderful" and came across this episode. A global women's travel community called Wanderful, hosted an outdoor festival filled with speakers, music, celebration and food in New Orleans this past weekend in March and it is the first festival of its kind! We took to the streets (Canal, Bourbon, and inside the actual conference) to ask guests what their experience has been like in this vibrant city, spending days exploring and meeting up with fellow women in travel, content creators, dreamers, and doers. For many of us, it was our first time meeting up in person in years. The energy, motivation, and connection found at this festival was unmatched and definitely provided fuel for the weekend. Guaranteed this will be the only inspiration you'll need to attend Wanderfest every year for years to come! Chantel Loura of Voyaging Vagabond blog, joins Trizzy and Leah this week to discuss how she started travel writing: in an era where no one was talking online about being fat or queer. We talk about how she's so comfortable in front of a camera, what resources she recommends for bigger women who travel, how she moved to Portugal and MORE! Another Trizzy & Leah duet this week filled with travel budgeting and hacking tips, tricks & advice! After Danielle Desir's episode last week of "Budgeting for Affordable Travel", we decided to share our own stories of how we prep financially before and during a trip to get the most out of our travels. Leah comes with the budgeting best practices such as: measure needs versus wants, bring WAY more money than you think you need, be intentional about tunnel vision towards a specific travel finance goal, and most importantly: slow travel to maximize your time & money! Trizzy delivers her expertise on more of the "travel hacking" by shopping exclusively through Rakuten (her referral link below!), how to use hotel booking sites in conjuction with Rakuten, and find loyalty within your most flown airline to take advantage of all its perks. Budget for life first, then everything will fall into place, especially travel! This episode is solid one for those tryin to get their money right! Danielle Desir, podcaster, author, blogger and creator of The Thought Card financial podcast and blog, joined T2A recently to talk all things money, which is what allows us to travel! She emphasizes "value based spending" and shares her tips and tricks on how to pick what matters to you when you travel, and what to look for to get the most bang for your buck. Some of Danielle's best advice regarding travel & money is to know who you are and figure out how you can win quickly to keep up momentum. One of her processes is to "Save. Travel. Repeat." Growing up, Danielle's mother talked to her about money ALL the time, very much a taboo topic in many cultures. We're envious she got that transparency! What is it really like traveling during a pandemic? What are the new travel requirements for countries, airport, and hotels? How has travel changed since before Covid-19? In our most controversial episode yet, we traveled to 3 countries from the USA in the past 5 months for major life event celebrations and lived to tell about our experiences. While we know that traveling while Covid-19 still exists in many parts of the world can be scary and daunting, we do believe there are ways to travel safely during this time. What did we learn in our FIRST year as travel podcasters, which coincidentally was the year a global pandemic took over (aka the dreaded 2020)? For our 1 year anniversary on January 15, Trizzy (@ExEaEx) and Leah (@LAinFlight) brought 5 of their favorite nuggets of travel & podcasting wisdom to y'all. We made mistakes so you don't have to! On the real though - we wouldn't be here without anyone who has ever shared an episode, paid us a compliment, gave us a like, or saved a bit of an episode that would help them on their next trip! Denise Castaneda (@itsdenisecas) joined the ladies of @Ticket2AnywherePodcast to chat all things luxury and culture travel: being an American expat in London, how she scored her dream job abroad, all the weekend getaway traveling she does around Europe and how she mixes staying at bougie hotels and eating street food for every meal while globetrotting. Denise, a luxury and culture travel expert, traded in the sunshine and palm trees of her hometown in LA to live the expatriate life across the pond in London. When she's not helping clients improve their businesses by day, she incorporates exploration, photography & culinary delights into her travels near and far. "If you can't afford travel insurance, you can't afford to travel." A thought that has stuck with us before and during every trip, and weighed on our minds heavier now during a pandemic. What is travel insurance? What does it cover? Why do I need it? Does it cover lost luggage? Flight delays? Stolen phones? Motorbike accidents? If you've ever asked yourself any of these questions, you should be considering travel insurance for each of your domestic & international trips. @TrizzInc and @LAinFlight dive into their experiences with travel insurance and share trip insurance stories from the Ticket 2 Anywhere community!
