Jared Easley interviewed Eric McCain, an accomplished musician, percussionist, and studio musician on the Starve the Doubts podcast. Some key points from the discussion: - Eric shared his background, growing up related to the Pointer Sisters, getting his start in music through marching band, and being mentored by influential music teacher Reggie Andrews. This exposed him to jazz and inspired him to learn percussion. - He has traveled the world performing at iconic venues like Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House. Eric has also worked with many famous artists, such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Denzel Washington, though often in the studio rather than directly. - Eric performed percussion on the original Lion King animated film and the Broadway musical for many years. - He emphasized the importance of constantly reinventing yourself and being open to learning new things at any age. This motivated his interest in podcasting and attending this podcast conference. - When asked for recommendations on experiencing the real LA music scene, Eric suggested checking out smaller clubs in the arts district downtown, referenced in the LA Weekly. - He discussed how much the music industry and recording technology have evolved over his career, from 4-track tapes to digital. While it is easier now, he feels the abundance of music has reduced some modern music's overall quality and artistry. - Eric advised aspiring musicians to learn piano fundamentals and music theory as a foundation. Success takes hard work and homework, not overnight stardom. - He is launching his podcast, Eric McCain Live, in late April 2024, interviewing musicians. - Eric closed by encouraging listeners to prioritize their health above all else. The interview painted Eric as a passionate, accomplished musician eager to share his experience and wisdom with others through his upcoming podcast. Jennifer Uren believes that you can do it all, just not by yourself. Through her website and podcast, This Mom Knows , she coaches and encourages mompreneurs to find the right systems, tools, and people – their Mom Team – to help and support them so they can be their best as both “mom” and “entrepreneur”. Jenn is very familiar with trying to juggle and do all the things herself but too often found that it was at the expense of her family, especially relationship with her kids. She hit a breaking point five years ago when she and her husband experienced a surprise adoption of a sibling set (100% unexpected – you can hear about it on her podcast). This started her down a life-giving path of transformation as she learned how to ask for help, offer help, and lean into systems to simplify and create space in her own life – and she wants to help you do that, too. She and her family have recently left the hustle and bustle of the Chicagoland area and are enjoying discovering their new hometown in Northwest Indiana. Support the show

The importance of surrounding yourself with people that elevate your engagement with the world is sometimes overlooked. In the landscape of business, we rarely look across the table at the competitor as a leader, and instead get stuck in the game of comparison. Yet without the other we would be lost. And the question arises around the benefit of surrounding yourself with those that challenge you, disrupt your path, and engage you in a healthy explorative process. How do we seek out a personal board of directors and disruptors? And what are the ways that both you, as an individual, and your business, as an entity, can thrive among a peer group that calls upon you to improve? Learn more about Purpose Match and Andrew Ripley -- How Living with Purpose Changes Everything When asked what they want most out of life, almost everyone will eventually mention that what they really want is to find purpose and meaning. To know that their life matters and can make a difference. But it’s more than just wanting to impact the world… it’s also good business. And good for your well being. Here’s how. It’s good for your career LinkedIn and Imperative recently did a study on purpose in the global workplace . What they found was that people with purpose reported 64% higher levels of fulfillment in their work, were 50% more likely to be in leadership positions, and 47% more likely to be promoted by their employers. In addition, Ernst & Young’s research shows that people with purpose are 1.7 times more satisfied in their career and 3 times more likely to stay in their job. And finally, the Association for Psychological Science finds that on average, purpose can even lead to making more money and having higher net wealth. The reason? Again, it’s good business! In his book, The Invisible Leader , Zach Mercurio makes the case that not only can purpose transform your life, but that it can transform an organization. Nothing motivates people more than purpose. For example, if a company has a well-defined purpose and mission, it empowers everyone on the team. No longer do you have to coerce people to do their job. Rather, people who find purpose in their work will be self-motivated and more productive. Which leads to greater profits, higher salaries, happier employees, and a better organization. It’s good for your well-being But we all know that life is so much more than just work. And finding purpose results in greater happiness and well-being. For example, people with purpose, on average, have been found to live longer with 15% lower chance of death when compared to their peers. They also sleep better , and are also healthier, have less dementi

My mom and I sit down and discuss some memories from her childhood. We talked about what life was like growing up in Mississippi in the 1950's. She talks about her siblings, her father, chores, fun memories, etc.—-All right. So they were talking with Helen easily. Happens to be my mother and mom. Tell me about what it was like. This is the story of of not being able to lay in the bed during the day so let's just talk about that. What was it like for you growing up. You can't go to bed during the day. Well I grew up on a farm and my dad he had these standards. Around our house. But I woke up five o'clock no later than 6:00. And you didn't get you didn't get to have a choice you had to get up yet had list things day and in the early morning. I mean when you have one of 13 children go to draw water. Jada it's breakfast you got wash dishes you got to gather eggs. Got to go out to the fields and gather Hayes and corn and butter beans and okra and big a bushel baskets of these things. And I started doing this. I was five years old five years old and you're carrying this heavy vegetables that you picked for two hours. The Siblin happened but we had to walk in steps and say Today I'm is actually kind of funny thinking back on it because we weren't strong enough but we became stronger because we were using our muscles and we were we had to do because we the weeding get it done when at the end of the day my dad would check the safe. We did what he told us today and if we didn't do it he lines up we all got a switch and you said OK let's go there was a switch and you go. It was it did not for my dad. That was not what you wanted. Dad had no mercy. It was not a matter of but this. But that Dad would just say take the switch to the boat you do today this and he would go out and out in the yard and we'd have these peach trees out there and he would cut off one of those little pastry lambs. And you talked about it's not teaching it her. And he would have red welts on your legs. You didn't want but one of those you realized if you didn't get it if you didn't get your job done you better get you better get somebody to help you anyway because you knew you didn't face Daddy. Yeah. The fear of a parent does instill good things in a child when a child fears and respects a parent. It helps a child a healthy respect because even though my dad didn't do it that way but my dad knew that keep us busy and as long as we were busy it took any and it took all of us doing what had to be done to keep family going to keep things smooth so that it didn't fall on one person that wouldn't let that happen had and go out and work all day long at a lumber Mayo. And he had hired help that they'd be at now these logs and bring them in there and he'd be overseeing these people to address this lumber for people that wanted to build some kind of commercial build in our house somewhere and he'd work all day around here and then come home and eat when I get home like six or seven o'clock at

In this episode we take a big swim in Lake Joe Bass. What is Joe up to? http://hatfieldtaylor.comhttps://www.instagram.com/joetbass/--Speaker 1: 00:00 Good job, any job, doesn't matter what it is. Work your butt off, get promoted, come in sick, come in on days that you don't have to come in, be indispensable to the person you're working for, and continue to do that until you get to the point where you get to live your dream. Be indispensable no matter what you do. Speaker 2: 00:28 Welcome to Starve the Doubts. Speaker 3: 00:29 I'm your host, Jared Easley, and joining me today is a good friend of mine, someone I've known for many, many years and I've seen through the hills, through the valleys, through the good times, through the Times that were challenging. My friend Joe Bass. Joe, welcome to starve the doubts. Hey, thanks Jared. What's up man? They're just sounded nice. And Chris for that microphone. You got there? A professional podcaster. Speaker 1: 00:51 Well, you know, we've got them for two different reasons. It's funny. We're both rocking the Heils. Aren't you rocking a Heil? I am, yeah. I got the PR 40, but I, you know, I'm a nerd. I, I've got my ham radio set up here and you know, Bob Heil, I don't know if you know much about. Oh really? Yeah, he's got a storied past man. Yeah, I mean, you know, with the WHO and what was it the talk box with a who was a Peter Frampton, is that correct? Speaker 3: 01:15 It sounds correct. He's definitely had some, uh, with some, some big name people back in the day. So Speaker 1: 01:22 yeah, he's an am guy though. Uh, so he kinda is in the hobby as well and that's where it started and he's, he's also an organist. I don't know if you've ever worn. Speaker 3: 01:34 It's funny you bring up organist. I'm going to go ahead and throw this out there. The other day I found myself in chanted. I think that's a good word. Listening on Youtube to A. Are you familiar with the movie interstellar? Tell me who's in it. I think so. Matthew mcconaughey. Hey, I love that movie. It's a Scifi movie. Anyway, the soundtrack who, uh, that was by Zimmerman, somebody's got a church organ and like an old classic church somewhere and played the soundtrack of that album and I mean I listen to that. I was blown away. I really liked that movie, but just hearing that music on an organ that was like I worked, I got to know a lot of work done listening to. But anyway. Awesome. Way Off Topic Joe. Let's not mess around with any of that. Let's talk about you joe. Let's start out with how in the world did we meet? Oh Speaker 1: 02:23 Gosh, how did we meet? I mean, I know we met a really long time ago. We met through church probably in middle school at the time. Yeah, I'd say so. I guess I was probably. I don't know what 14. Speaker 3: 02:35 That might be true. Probably my first memor

Do not, you know, just focus on what you could do to be a better person. Jared Easley: 00:23 Welcome to starve the doubts. I'm your host, jared, easily joining me as a coast today is my good friend, Joe Bass. Hey Joe. Hey, what's up jared? Welcome to the show. It's a, I think your first time since you've cohosted with me, so I appreciate you making that effort today. Yeah, I'm trying to bring the level of the quality down just a little. Well that's uh, that's on me. But anyway. Hey, our guest today is great. Ellis, some of you may know him as Scragg Lee or Grade a, all kinds of cool music and stuff on Youtube and Grady, we really appreciate you taking time to sit down and chat with us. Man, I appreciate y'all for having me home. And uh, like you said, free say child lowering your standards. Speaker 1: 01:03 I'm going to do the kickoff question, Joe. I always like to ask people this. I don't always record it on the episodes, but I just curious. Great. What's the best concert you've ever been to? I would have to say grateful dead RFK stadium. Probably Ninety two or 91 maybe. Oh, nice. Wow. So that was before Jerry, before Jerry died. Okay. There you go. Now is actually actually sold pretzels at the RF can. It was an experience because I wasn't really into the dead or into that whole scene at that point in my life and it was allowed. It was an eyeopening experience. I'll say that. Speaker 2: 01:40 Hey asshole grilled cheeses in mountain dudes. So I feel you. Speaker 1: 01:44 Yeah. Joe went to phish concerts and sold. I mean, yeah, kind of like transition, like the great. The deadheads all kinda like moved over to fish and kind of followed them around for a little bit too. I think at one point I was gonna say Joe came to me recently and he's like, Hey, I got a really interesting guy that I want you to consider interviewing on the podcast and I get that a lot from other people, so sometimes I'm a little bit Kinda like, Eh, who's the person this as soon as, as soon as joe tells me about anything, I immediately want to check it out because I trust dough. So actually this first question, I'm going to flip the Joe and then, then we'll come back to you. Grady is Joe, how'd you first learn about grady and, and then what is it about Brady that made you decide, hey, let's get him on the podcast? Speaker 2: 02:34 Yeah, I think the first time we came in contact

Please pardon the delay on the release of this episode! Jody Maberry is back and we discuss the latest and greatest. You can learn more about Jody over at http://jodymaberry.com. -- Speaker 1: 00:01 I realized that action is worth so much more than ideas, man, we have so many ideas, but take action on so few of them. Podcast movement started with an idea, starve the doubts. Started with an idea that was followed by action. So there it is. Speaker 2: 00:24 Welcome to starve the doubts. I'm your host, jared. Easily. It's been a little while since you put out an episode. Shame on me. But as you know, I kinda take strategic breaks here and there and with podcast movement, Philadelphia being all in focused on that. Thankfully it was a great success, but that definitely required my attention. Uh, but today, now I have the attention of our guests. It really doesn't need an introduction. He's been on the show and more times than probably I have jody mayberry. Welcome back to starve the doubts, Speaker 1: 00:51 jared, easily. It's great to be here and that seems like an exaggeration to say I've been on more than. Speaker 2: 00:57 No, definitely not, but when we count all the different shows that you're involved in and then think back to when you were just a lowly cohost on starve the doubts years ago certainly surpassed me when it comes to podcast episode production. So part of me is proud of that and the other part of me is like, man, I've, I've, I've slipped, slipped, but it's all good. So congrats. Speaker 1: 01:22 Thanks jared. It's, and I've, on my recent 100th episode of the Jody maberry show, I talk about how you are, the reason that happened, it never, if it hadn't been for starve the doubts and you're saying come on, be a cohost that never would've happened and I did the math recently, but I don't know the exact number off the top of my head, but there's been more episodes, but it's around now 730 episodes I've hosted and produced that. So that's. Speaker 2: 01:51 Yeah, that's yeah, that's a lot of work. Anybody that's recorded more than three podcasts knows that, so congratulations. Speaker 1: 01:59 Yeah, well thanks. And that doesn't count being on starve the doubts. That doesn't count any of those episodes. And I, we did a brief, me and Alex Barker, who you, I know you know him, we did a brief stint of a show called pharmacy live radio where I hosted, but he did all the production work. So those don't count in into that either. So it's been from that very first episode with James Woosley Til now. My goodness, jared, you really, uh, gave me a slingshot and I've been taken windows out with it. Speaker 2: 02:33 Well, I love your slingshot and a, I want to talk about things that aren't. Podcasting is, yes, you are a podcaster and we mentioned this prior to hitting record, but you don't ne

Starve the Doubts JENNY BLAKE In this Starve the Doubts episode, Jared Easley co-hosts the show with Megan Pangan of www.meganpangan.com/, as they interview the inspiring Jenny Blake, author of the bestselling book, Life After College: The Complete Guide to Getting What You Want. Her career started out when she created the blog Life After College back in 2005. She then worked at Google for 5 years, serving as a Career Development Program Manager and internal coach. Jenny has such a fiery passion for exploring systems at the intersection of the mind, body, and business, that she not only became a full-time solopreneur, but she has also completed teacher training courses for Yoga and Thai massage. Undoubtedly, Jenny Blake is an emerging leader you definitely should look out for among the flock of female online entrepreneurs of our world today, as she continues on her goal to help bring focus on people’s lives, sharing an ocean of soulful tips in achieving efficiency, happiness, and fulfillment in your career and personal life. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT: How to become the CEO of your life and career How fear is inevitable but it shouldn’t get in the way for you to take action How to wake up and live big by taking tiny, baby steps Building the confidence muscle Keeping health as your priority everyday and the value of rest How to actually find your passion Building first, before you get the “courage cookie” ITEMS MENTIONED: You need to be the CEO of your own career. You need to be proactive about building marketable skills. Best advice for female entrepreneurs: Do things your own way. Don’t worry about what anyone else is doing, and just trust your gut. Women have a very strong intuition and gut instinct. Go with it even if it’s counter to other advice you see out there on the Internet. Jenny’s favorite organization tool is Evernote. It helps her organize business ideas, book ideas, writing projects, etc. The Power Trio that Jenny uses everyday: Dropbox, Google Docs, Evernote Opposite to what most people perceive her to be, she actually considers herself as a very introverted person and she cherishes being alone. Her best “alone spot” is waking up and reading a book in the morning with a cup of tea or taking long walks on the streets of New York. Fear – we all have it; but the discomfort of not taking action will start to outweigh it. When people have a whisper in their gut that it’s time for change or that they’ve hit a ceiling, then it can be uncomfortable and very disconcerting and fear-inducing; but the way to wake up and live big is to start taking very tiny baby steps. Her personal motto: To do one small brave thing each day. You don’t need to move mountains. Action is the antidote to despair. You’re not going to gain confidence just by sitting around thinking about it. It just happens from taking action day after day. A concrete example of a small baby step: Set up a 20-30 min. phone call or coffee date with someone who’

This episode is not the typical guest for Starve the Doubts. Mia has many titles and roles one of them is an adult film actress. Some people will appreciate her perspective and some will not. I encourage you to consider learning from Mia's perspective or respectfully passing on this episode if any of this type of conversation is not for you. Lastly - Starve the Doubts encourages different perspectives and appreciates diversity. I always try to challenge myself as an interview host to welcome different opinions on the show. I am pleased that this episode represents that in what I consider to be a respectful and tasteful manner. I welcome your thoughts on the episode.Mia on Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCABbTOlvQeM7C3ygzr6aLKQMia on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/lovemsmiali Support the show

This episode features two awesome people.1) Ani Alexander - https://anialexander.com/2) Tia Lee - https://twitter.com/TiaLeeRadioThis episode did not go as planned for a few reasons. The first reason is that Skype updated right before the interview and the default setting for my microphone was changed. I thought I was using my beautiful podcast mic, but it was actually the external mic on my computer that was recording my voice (podcasting no no). Second - Tia was attempting her first podcast recording with us and the wifi signal wouldn't play nice. She was dropped from the call multiple times. Third - I kept mispronouncing Ani (Ah-knee ... I would say Annie). #BrutalWhat went right? Ani Alexander delivers great content as always!Life doesn't always work out the way that you want it to. My first tendency was to scrap this episode, but then I realized that it was better to post as is in order to be upfront and honest about "life happening" during a podcast. Please excuse the craziness. What recommendations do you have on the best ways to respond when things don't go the way that you want them to? In this episode, Jared Easley together with Ryan Avery (@averytoday), interviews Simon Sinek. Simon is an optimist who believes in a bright future and our ability to build it together. He is the author of the best selling Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action and Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t. Simon is famous for bringing up the concept of Why and for the TED talk that he gave about the subject. His speech is the second most viewed video in TED.com. Simon continues to influence people around the world by leading a movement to inspire people to do the things that inspire them. His biggest goal is to see a world with people going home everyday fulfilled. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT: Leadership examples, traits, and principle Putting down your cellphone and changing the world! ITEMS MENTIONED: One trait all successful leaders must have – courage It’s not about charisma; it’s not about having a wonderful personality. Being a leader is all about taking the risk before everyone else does. A leader is someone who take responsibility and not necessarily someone who is in authority Cellphone addiction and social media addiction Everything is instantaneous to us nowadays – we get what we want in an instant Leadership and fulfillment are like exercise – you don’t see daily results Don’t look at the short-term results To really be able to make a difference, you have to be able to devote your energy and yourself to one thing, not a lot of things Like any addiction, you can’t get rid of it overnight Cellphones are good, but if you’re having dinner, put it away Great ideas and innovation come from paying attention and looking at the world around us Allow ourselves to be curious and allow our minds to wander Advice to young speakers and writer – don’t strive to be one, but be interested in sharing an IDEA Be interested in GIVING and not focusing on yourself Simon shares about his books Leaders Eat Last and Start With Why Leadership is like parenting, putting all the needs and wants of your children before you Leadership is a practice you have to do everyday Everyone of us have the opportunity to be the leader we wish we had **Episode was originally posted on 03/05/14** Support the show
