Mickelle sits down with Jeanina Zgirie, a personal stylist with a unique perspective on blending fashion and place to help people evolve their personal style again and again, especially in times of transition. Originally from Romania, Jeanina shares her journey from a small town upbringing to building a career in Amsterdam, exploring how fashion became a crucial part of her self-expression. She reflects on growing up during a transitional period in Romania’s history and the role of resilience and adaptation that shaped her identity. Moving to Amsterdam was a transformative experience for Jeanina, offering her a fresh start and the freedom to reinvent herself—a journey she now helps her clients navigate as they adjust to life in a new city or chapter of their lives. Jeanina and Mickelle talk about the concept of personal style as a language, a way to tell one’s story. Jeanina explains that style should be an intentional reflection of who we are, not just a response to trends or external expectations. She shares her approach to helping clients evaluate their closets with care, keeping only pieces that reflect their true selves, and guiding them to explore local boutiques or vintage shops in Amsterdam that add layers of personality to their wardrobe. Jeanina believes in the importance of curating a closet that feels like an art gallery, encouraging people to make thoughtful choices rather than quick, unsustainable buys. As a Peregrine one’s wardrobe can reflect their cultural heritage while adapting to a new environment or lifestage. Jeanina emphasizes the power of clothing to express individuality and how she assists people in finding that balance between blending into their surroundings and standing out. She also notes Amsterdam’s diverse and expressive fashion scene, which welcomes personal creativity and experimentation. For Jeanina, styling is more than clothes; it’s about helping clients navigate their inner transformations and outwardly reflect their evolving identities. Rohit Nadhani, co-founder of Kubera, speaks with us today about the reasons behind starting Kubera (his 4th company) and how the platform helps global citizens manage their finances. Rohit explains that Kubera was born out of a personal need to track his complex financial portfolio, spread across various currencies and assets. Traditional financial tools, often designed for specific markets, couldn't offer the comprehensive global perspective he needed, which led him to create Kubera—a streamlined solution for tracking and managing wealth across multiple assets, currencies, and geographies. Rohit emphasizes the importance of managing wealth in different currencies, especially for those living internationally or earning in one currency while spending in another. He points out how Kubera helps individuals make smarter financial decisions by offering real-time data, focusing on security, and maintaining user privacy. Unlike other platforms that use customer data to sell financial products, Kubera follows a subscription-based model, ensuring that user data remains private. Rohit also discusses how Kubera's simplicity and user-friendly design make it accessible to anyone, from individuals with basic financial needs to those managing complex portfolios involving LLCs or trusts. Rohit created Kubera to empower global citizens to take control of their finances, providing them with a comprehensive view of their wealth, and giving them the tools to make informed decisions, especially in a world where few financial advisors have expertise in multi-currency living. Key Moments: Rohit's motivation for founding Kubera: Filling the gap in managing complex financial portfolios across currencies. The importance of managing wealth in multiple currencies for international individuals. Kubera’s privacy-first model: How it differs from other platforms that monetize user data. In this episode, Mickelle sits down with Hannah Huber, founder of the Amsterdam Academy Press. She wrote her first book, Place , to tell her story about finding one’s home in the world while living abroad. Her upcoming book: Queens Row brings to life a historical fiction cast of characters of political royalty in 1960 as they and their country wrestle with changing expectations of motherhood, gender norms, and the bonds of love, family, and friendship. Hannah is also founder of Amsterdam Academy Press, where she brings stories to life by empowering and supporting authors on their journey to self publish. Based on her own needs, she saw a gap in the market and she’s filled it with the help of an incredible team of creatives, where together with her team, she supports her clients without the process of publishing a book and offers a wonderful alternative to traditional publishers. In this conversation, they talk about what brought Hannah to the Netherlands and her values that center around embracing different perspectives and finding joy in the differences. They talk about the difficulties of living away from where you grew up and how Hannah navigates that with her family. Hannah’s first taste of something different other than her American upbringing, was a month-long stay with a family friend in France where she was introduced to the rich culture and history. This sparked an interest and appreciation for different experiences and cultures and the young Hannah volunteered herself for a student exchange which saw her spend a year in the Netherlands at just 16. She then went on to a highschool that was known for its international exchanges where she would spend time in England and Italy. Moving countries and need to learn the language? We’ve got good news for you. In today's episode Mickelle speaks to Olive Halsall, founder of Olea, the creators of Private Joke, a card game making language learning creative, fun and accessible. They talk about the benefits of multilingualism and how it can change the world and how we function. When discussing the roles of identity, when it comes to speaking different languages, and relating to different aspects of what the language may represent, Olive talks of the concept she came upon - “Both, not half” which speaks to validating all aspects of our identity and that embracing one language or culture does not mean to embrace another one less. She has lots of ideas for parents and adults alike on how we can navigate new languages and how to support our children in this transition. For world citizens, this is one you cannot miss! In this episode, we delve into the fascinating journey of Ines Dominguez del Corral, the creative force behind the upcoming play titled "Welcome Home." A true Peregrine, Ines was born to Colombian parents in Wales, raised in Colombia, educated in a German school, and embarked on a journey that took her through Germany, Austria, and the United States before finally settling in the Netherlands. It's a place she now calls home, and the feeling of returning to the Netherlands after being away is, for her, a visceral and emotional experience. In her conversation with Mickelle, Ines opens up about her unique life story and the circumstances that led her to the Netherlands. She also shares what inspired her to create a thought-provoking show that explores the profound concept and meaning of 'home.' For many of us in the Peregrine community, the idea of 'home' can be a fluid and evolving one, often distinct from our place of birth, upbringing, or passport country. Ines encourages us to reflect on what 'home' personally means to each of us. If you're intrigued by the idea of 'home' and the experiences of those who have traversed the globe in search of it, you won't want to miss this episode.
