In this episode, we get straight to the heart of what truly drives profit in family agribusinesses, with insights from Kate Burke of Think Agri. As a seasoned farm consultant with a PhD in agronomy and a background in managing one of Australia's largest grain producers, Kate knows a thing or two about making farms profitable. She joins us to share her expertise and challenge some common misconceptions. Kate kicks off by sharing a bit about her impressive background, setting the stage for a discussion that will have you rethinking what you know about agricultural profitability. When we first discussed this podcast, Kate made a bold claim: factors like rainfall, farm size, and commodity prices are not the biggest determinants of agribusiness success. With the recent tough times—drought, falling livestock prices, rising input costs, and interest rates—many might find this hard to believe. So, what are the real profit drivers? Kate reveals the key factors that can make or break a farm business. Furthermore, she highlights the significant range in farm profit performance across the industry and suggests that many families have the potential to double their returns. What are most families missing in their recipe for success? Tune in to find out the crucial elements that can transform your agribusiness and ensure long-term prosperity for future generations. Jade shares her experience transitioning from city life in Brisbane to the rural setting of Richmond, and how she and Nikko built strong relationships with his family whilst navigating the challenges this often presents. We also uncover the Lord family's embrace of the "Who Not How" philosophy, seeking outside help and professional advice to tackle problems and achieve success. Jade provides insight into how they are already preparing their young children to be valuable members of the family and business, ensuring the legacy of prosperity continues. Lastly, we offer advice to young individuals in less prosperous family businesses on how to foster communication and drive their own success. Tune in to hear these stories and more as Nikko and Jade reveal the principles and practices that make their family’s business a high-performing one. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. In this episode, recorded live at the 2024 Cotton Conference on the Gold Coast, Ben interviews the Lawrie Family of Moora Plains, QLD - a prime example of what he terms a ‘High Performing Family’. Drawing from his 25-year career working with farming families, Ben has identified this as the key difference between those that successfully navigate succession - and the alarming number that don't. Andrew and Meagan Lawrie openly share their approach and experience with succession, emphasizing the importance of strong family relationships alongside financial stability. They detail how early conversations and involving their children’s partners have fortified family bonds. Andrew also highlights the value of ongoing education and personal development, stressing how continuous learning has been pivotal for their family’s growth. Additionally, insights into raising hardworking, conscientious children and avoiding the pitfalls of entitlement are shared. The episode also delves into the perspective of younger family members, who are balancing career ambitions with future succession plans, and offers advice for those in similar situations. Succession is presented as a continuous process, not a one-time event. Starting early, embracing external help, and maintaining flexibility in plans are crucial takeaways from this insightful discussion. Tune in to learn how these principles can help ensure a thriving future for any family agribusiness. If you're looking to deepen your understanding of successful succession planning, don't miss our upcoming 'Generations Ahead: Succession-Proof Your Family' Webinar on Wednesday 28th August 2024. These beliefs can limit your potential, induce stress, and even perpetuate negative financial cycles across generations. Joining us is Hayley Grosser, a money mindset coach, who shares her journey from a scarcity mindset to one of financial abundance. Hayley explains what a money mindset is and how it unconsciously drives our decisions. She vividly describes how she broke through her financial ceiling by reprogramming her thoughts and creating a new narrative around money. We discuss how our upbringing shapes our financial attitudes, why generational wealth patterns persist, and how conflicting money mindsets cause family tension. Hayley identifies common signs of a negative money mindset and offers strategies to develop a healthier relationship with money, emphasising gratitude, curiosity, and education. We also dive into the issue of wealth guilt and how to resolve it by aligning beliefs with the positive impact of wealth. On today’s Wealth & Wisdom podcast, we’re unravelling the complexities of economics and finance. With esteemed economist, Saul Eslake, we pull back the curtain on the world of inflation and interest rates. With over four decades of experience in Australian financial markets, Saul's insights are invaluable. Saul gives us the lowdown on what’s really happening within the Aussie economy compared to global standards. And with the majority of us feeling the pinch from rising costs, Saul breaks inflation down into simple terms, explaining why we're so far from 'normal' and shedding light on the alarming concept of a ‘per capita recession’. We also put interest rates under the microscope. As such a crucial factor, especially rural producers with their sensitivity to rate changes, Saul offers his expert opinion on where we stand in the cycle and whether we can expect any relief soon. Tune in with Ben and Saul for a stimulating discussion about the current economic landscape. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. Welcome to our latest episode of the Wealth and Wisdom podcast! This episode was recorded live at the Young Beef Producers Forum in Roma where I interviewed my mate Geoff Birchnell of 3R Beef. You’ve heard me talk about succession planning a lot and it is a major challenge in the Ag industry. I have done a number of podcasts which have been hugely popular about how a family can progress a succession plan when they are stuck or just at a loss as to what to do. But what if your parents don’t operate a large-scale operation that would allow for a succession plan? What if you’re one of 2, 3 or 4 kids that want to come home to the farm but there just isn’t enough room for everyone? Or…. what if you are an aspiring first generation Ag producer and you are thinking, “How the bloody hell can I get a start??” Well, I decided to tackle that question the best way I know how. I found someone who is actually doing something about it and…. I asked them! The son of two teachers, Geoff established his first herd, Avingnon Herefords, at age 9 and later purchased his own block. Geoff studied accounting at university and spent almost 10 years as an accountant in a Brisbane firm learning as much as he could about large scale beef production from his grazier clients. But accounting wasn’t for Geoff, he had a vision of being a full-time beef producer. In 2018 Geoff manufactured an opportunity for Avignon to evolve into 3R Livestock, expanding into Angus cattle. Geoff is scaling up and he’s having a crack at his dream! Geoff’s story is an inspiring listen about creating your own opportunities and defying the narrative that the only way to get into farming is through a succession plan. So instead of waiting around for your parents to come up with a viable succession plan or for some other opportunity to fall into your lap, have a listen to Geoff and remember… You can’t cross the sea by standing and staring at the water. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. In this episode of Wealth & Wisdom, your host Ben takes us with him on the journey from his trial retirement to discovering his life's new purpose. After receiving a rather stern ultimatum from his wife (which involved the threat of a "grisly death" if he stayed home and under her feet), Ben embarked on a quest to find a new challenge. That quest led him to the creation of this very podcast. Ben's newfound mission became to explore and share the fundamental factors of success for driven and motivated producers. Through conversations with successful producers and some deep soul-searching, he uncovered three common challenges faced by prosperous families: 1. Maximizing Professional Advisor Impact: Ben discusses how to find and work effectively with financial advisors, bankers, brokers, lawyers, and accountants, ensuring that they collaborate seamlessly for the family's benefit. 2. Family Strategic Planning & Alignment: Achieving family focus and alignment becomes a crucial aspect of sustaining prosperity, and Ben delves into strategies to achieve this alignment. 3. Preparing the “Heirs”: Beyond operational handovers, Ben explores the intricate process of preparing the next generation to take over the family business (or resulting wealth) successfully. To help unravel these complex topics, Ben enlists the expertise of his co-host, Chloe, a seasoned professional with extensive experience working with family businesses. Chloe aptly dubs their approach as "kind of like a family office," but with a unique twist. Ben and Chloe offer their insights and perspectives on these three critical areas, shedding light on the path to success for families, both now and across generations. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. Today, we have a truly inspiring guest with us: Trudie Payne. Trudie, along with her husband Liam and their two children, Mitch and Bronte, manages a successful grazing operation in the heart of Central Queensland. Trudie's life took an unexpected turn in 2018 when she was diagnosed with one of the most aggressive forms of Melanoma despite being the picture of fitness, happiness, health and drive. In this captivating episode, we're going to delve into Trudie's remarkable journey – from her initial visit to a general practitioner who dismissed her concerns with a casual, "It's nothing to worry about," to the pivotal moment when a specialist in Brisbane delivered the harsh reality: she had a mere 6 to 8 weeks before the cancer would spread into her bloodstream, potentially becoming terminal. Trudie's story is a testament to the power of intuition and the importance of heeding your inner voice. She shares how she overcame doubt, advocated for her health, and took charge of her situation. Her unwavering determination led to a series of critical decisions that, ultimately, became instrumental in saving her life. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. In this episode, we're delving into the tax trap that will affect many farmers and graziers when purchasing new machinery. For years, the question of whether upgrading machinery helps with tax has been a common concern, especially during the period of the instant asset write-off. However, with the government returning to pre-pandemic tax rules, understanding the tax implications is now more critical than ever. To guide us through this complex subject, we have a special guest, Chris Eccles, accountant and director of Empower Accounting & Advisory. In this conversation, Chris gives us an understanding of the new depreciation rules and what they mean for future equipment purchases. We’ll look at specific examples to illustrate the tax implications of upgrading machinery and explore scenarios involving different types of equipment, such as tractors, graders, dozers, trucks, and even round bailers. By breaking down the numbers, we’ll be demonstrating how depreciation, sales, and tax rates affect the overall financial outcomes. For those looking to learn more about Chris and his insights, they can find him on the Empower Accounting & Advisory YouTube channel, where he shares numerous business tips. In this episode, we welcome back a special guest, Dr. Terry McCosker, Founding Director of RCS Australia and Chairman of CarbonLink. If you missed our popular episode on carbon credits, go back and checkout episode “#15: Carbon Credits: The Results Are In," where Terry shared invaluable insights about carbon farming. Recently, Terry hinted at some exciting forthcoming data relating to large-scale carbon projects. The suspense built as he said, "I can't tell you about it just yet, Ben, we'll have to wait." Intrigued, I've been following up with Terry, and finally, he has given me the green light to publicly unveil with him three significant pieces of information he wants to share that could revolutionize how we perceive grazing's impact on climate and carbon farming. During the episode, we dive into the specifics of the groundbreaking large-scale carbon farming project that recently received regulatory sign-off, exploring its significance and implications. Challenging the misconceptions around cattle as climate villains, Terry presents compelling data on the carbon effects of grazing operations, shedding light on the true impact of cattle and methane production. Additionally, Terry explains the relationship that has been shown to exist between carbon sequestration, water, and its potential effects on global warming. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. For remote employers, Asher addresses the specific challenges they face in attracting and retaining staff and provides insights into how to meet the needs and expectations of remote job seekers, regardless of distance from a regional centre. Determining the appropriate level of compensation to maintain loyalty and strike the right balance between fair pay and staff retention. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. In this episode of Wealth & Wisdom, we're talking about a topic that often doesn’t get enough attention: the value of strong family relationships for people on the land. Our guest, Ali Flynn, brings her expertise as a therapist, facilitator, mindset coach & host of “The Challenges That Change Us Podcast” to the conversation, sharing insights on how to improve communication and build stronger connections within farming families. While it may seem like a departure from our usual focus on wealth and business performance, the reality is that family relationships can have a huge impact on both of those things. As the saying goes, it takes two generations to build wealth and one to lose it, and the statistics show that family breakdowns are often a major contributor to that loss. Whether you're on the land, from the land or a professional adviser that serves the rural community, you’ll know that communication can be a challenge for most farming families. But with Ali's tips and strategies, you'll learn how to navigate those challenges and build deeper, more meaningful relationships with your loved ones. If you're ready to cultivate stronger connections within your family and secure your legacy for generations to come, join us for this insightful and practical episode of Wealth & Wisdom. Most rural producers have legal and tax structures in place like partnerships, companies and trusts. They are usually put in place for either tax planning or asset protection purposes but are often ignored or misunderstood as “My accountant deals with that stuff!” Few understand their structures or realise what can go wrong if they or their accountant are not all over the legal and tax requirements, which is the subject of our discussion today. Our guest today is Kylie Wilson, a lawyer who has specialised in advising families in the rural space for well over 20 years. She is a partner at Holding Redlich which has offices in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns. Kylie is a sought-after keynote speaker and is technically exceptional in the areas of Estates, Tax, Succession and Self-Managed Super Funds. Today we are going to be discussing some of the problems with corporate investment into Australian Agriculture with our guest, Matt Barton. Matt is a fifth-generation farmer from central NSW but he is also a teacher, adviser and facilitator with RCS Australia. RCS is an integrated training, education & professional advice business that focuses solely on helping agricultural producers to best manage people, land and agricultural production systems. Matt went to boarding school in Sydney then studied accounting and finance at University. On completion of his studies, he worked in the financial markets in Sydney in the 1980’s before holding a role as the Corporate Treasurer for a mid-tier mining company. He made the choice to return to agriculture and come back to the family farming operation in Central NSW in the mid 1990’s and in 2007 he joined RCS. Matt’s time in Sydney provided extensive experience in the corporate and investment sectors giving him the ability to engage, advise and comment at both the producer level and the investor/corporate level, and he has some valuable insights to share with us today. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. Success leaves clues and if you’re the type of person who wants to learn what it takes to be successful then this is an episode for you. This week on The Financial Bloke podcast, I have retired beef exporter Mr Richard Rains. In this episode we’ll be discussing his passion for mentoring the next generation, dig into the secrets of his success, and uncover how he achieved the ‘impossible’ and persuaded McDonald’s to include imported Aussie Beef in their All American Burgers. Prior to his retirement Richard was the major shareholder of Sanger Australia, one of Australia’s largest meat exporters. He is most well-known for convincing fast food giant McDonald’s to include imported Australian beef in their US restaurants. McDonald’s has since become Australia’s single largest beef customer. Since retiring Richard has served on several boards but his main passion is developing and mentoring young people coming through the industry. He is integrally involved in a number of mentoring programs including The Zanda McDonald Award ( https://www.zandamcdonaldaward.com/ ). ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. We’ve all frequently heard naive politicians suggesting we “tax the rich” – which on the surface seems kind of ok, doesn’t it? But what I want any business owners - which includes farmers and graziers - to understand is that you are the “rich” they’re talking about. That’s because you own land and there is money in land, easy taxing money! Today Tim Rivett and I will be discussing death taxes which I am hearing more and more politicians talking about in the media. For anyone that was in farming back in the 60-70’s this should send a chill up your spine. You will probably remember something called inheritance tax which forced many a farming family into selling up and losing the farm when Mum or Dad died, as they couldn’t afford the death taxes. We are all going to die at some stage and whether it is our parents leaving assets to us, or us leaving assets to our kids, the legislation of death or inheritance taxes will impact your family, so this is a podcast you won’t want to miss. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. This episode was recorded at the 3R Livestock pre-bull sale dinner fireside chat at Goonoo Goonoo Station. I was extremely fortunate to have had three high calibre guests which I interviewed in a panel type format. The panel guests were David Bondfield (former director of Palgrove), Richard Rains (a retired meat exporter who was turning over about $500M annually when he retired) and Angus Street (CEO of Auctions Plus). The fireside chat, with the theme of “Collaboration and Innovation”, was tailored to the audience of driven, successful commercial beef producers who are excited about the future of the beef industry. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. Agriculture seems to be being painted more and more as an environmental villain by vegan & environmental activists as well as the some of the marketing machines of the plant-based industry. If you are sceptical that this issue is relevant to you, have a look at legislation being passed by ill-informed politicians in Sri Lanka, Ireland, Canada and The Netherlands and in our own energy sector. These should be our canary in the coal mine. Today our guest is Mark Davie. Mark and I are talking about how important it is that Ag avoid being unfairly portrayed as the “villain” and whether we need to take back control of the narrative. Most parents want their kids to learn how to be good with money. They instinctively know that a failure to learn how to play the game of money will put their kids at a major disadvantage, making their lives so much harder. But, whilst the majority of parents want to help their kids, most just don’t know how the hell to go about it. Because this this is such a hot topic with most parents, I decided I would try a Three Episode series on Kids and Money which I’ve called Money Muscles. In this episode (Part 2) I’ll be joined again by Tim Rivett. We will be drawing on our almost 40 years of combined professional experience to discuss how we are educating our kids, who are under 12, about money. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. Today’s guest is Dr Terry McCosker. Terry and I are discussing what a Carbon Credit actually is and how they have the potential to substantially improve the overall profitability and sustainability of some farming operations, resulting in a magnification of a family’s wealth both now and intergenerationally. The most exciting part is we are discussing the initial findings of one of the world’s largest Carbon Credit trials which Terry has been integrally involved in. Terry is a Founding Director of RCS Australia which for over 35 years has provided integrated training, education and advisory service to the agricultural sector. He is an internationally acclaimed teacher and has worked in research and property management in both the government and private sectors for almost 55 years. It has been said his ideas took farming out of a war with nature into an association with it. He introduced Australian farmers to the concept of ecosystem health and developed methods of measuring it, alongside financial health. Terry has more recently focused his attention on using his experience, education and expertise to assist the farming community to identify and make the most of the opportunities carbon credits could offer. Today, Ben Forrest (Real Estate Agent and Partner at the Resolute Property Group) and I will be discussing the key things you need to know if you want to successfully sell a farm. Most farmers and graziers are thinking about buying more land, not selling, but purchasing a new block sometimes requires the sale of some land to fund the new purchase. There are also those nearing retirement that will be either downsizing to a smaller block or selling up entirely and moving into town. Selling any major asset is a complex and stressful process, so the best results are almost always achieved when you prepare well. The problem is that most of us haven’t got years of experience selling properties, so we will inevitably make some mistakes, unless we find the right people to help us navigate the complexities and avoid the traps that the inexperienced fall into. As Benjamin Franklyn famously said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail,” and with the value of farms these days, the cost of getting it wrong could be significant. What happens to all the wealth you have built once you pass away? I want you to ask yourself: How do I want my wealth distributed when I die and what is the likelihood of that actually happening? Do I want my family to get the wealth when I die or do I want to make a bunch of lawyers rich? Do I want my kids to ‘fall out’ over my estate? Do I want the government to get a big chunk of my estate in taxes? And if you are in business or in the business of farming: Will the business be able to keep going when I die? These questions have just scratched the surface, but you get my point - estate planning is vitally important if you want to keep your hard earned wealth, in your family. Today our guest is Estate Planning Lawyer Tim Rivett. In this episode Tim and I are going to discuss what is Estate Planning, why just having a Will isn’t enough, the common mistakes as an estate planning specialist he sees people make and the things you can do to start sorting your estate planning out. That someone is known as a finance or mortgage broker. A family business is a great way to build intergenerational wealth but by nature they’re a bloody tricky beast. We have all heard the horror stories of families that had built successful intergenerational businesses only to deteriorate into squabbles and eventually total breakdown. Not only is all that wealth squandered, but opportunities for future generations are lost, and family relationships are permanently damaged. It is rarely due to a one-off event. More often it is owing to a series of cascading incidents over the very long term and through the generations. I noticed throughout my career that two of the major contributors are poor communication and the lack of effective planning. Another is how to integrate and involve the next generation successfully in the family business, particularly when there are multiple children. I have had many conversations with families who have children who want to come back to be involved in the family farm or business but struggle to find a way to structure it. But there are success stories out there and what we often forget is that they faced the exact same issues that all family businesses face. No family business is immune. The difference being that they confronted the problems head on and managed to resolve the issues which is why they are where they are today. Our guest today is Sarah Becker. Sarah is one of the young, smart, and driven success stories. She is well known and actively involved in the rural community, she’s a Mum to an energetic young boy, she is a Chartered Accountant, a trusted adviser to many successful rural families and she is a significant part of the family grazing business and accounting practice based in Central Queensland. If you’re involved in a family farm or business or have kids that have come back or want to come back and join the family business, you need to hear what Sarah has to say today. You can find Sarah online at: Website: https://www.beckerco.com.au Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BeckerandCoQld Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beckerandcoqld/ ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. I have always been intensely fascinated with people who see the world through a different lens to most of the population. They think and they act differently and choose to take their own path in life. This means that before they become outwardly successful, they are often vastly underestimated and misunderstood. They can be perceived as ‘failing’ a lot as they’re willing to give new things a go and sometimes are written off as being dreamers. My observations over my career as a financial adviser was that more often than not, they are the ones that become wildly successful. They are what we call entrepreneurs, and they are the people you need to take notice of and who you can learn a lot from. Now don’t get me wrong, thinking and doing things differently to everyone else is a choice that can make your life harder and riskier at times but the rewards have the potential to be exceptional. Today our guest is Geoff Birchnell. Geoff is a qualified Chartered Accountant, has been involved in exporting beef to China, was strategic analyst for a large beef production business which was one of the few who managed to successfully raise capital from a large overseas super fund, and is also a beef producer himself as a director of 3R Livestock. Today Geoff and I will be discussing why Geoff felt compelled to quit a lucrative professional accounting career and how a combination of thinking strategically and following your passion can help you find unlimited motivation and purpose in your life. Remember, finding success in any path you take requires you to listen to people from all walks of life, and getting a glimpse into their unique perspective could be the push you need to take action on that business idea or career change. IMPORTANT: This podcast is not an endorsement or promotion of any company or any investment products and you should seek personal financial advice suited to your circumstances before investing in any financial products. See legal disclaimer below. Many people ask me, “How do I start investing Ben?” and I always suggest the first step is to start educating yourself. In Episode 6 of The Financial Bloke Wealth & Wisdom Podcast we’re going to begin the education journey with Certified Investment Analyst Ian Boater as we discuss some of the simple things you need to know when investing in the sharemarket. I got to know Ian many years ago when I was a young adviser, and he was a young business development manager. Ian works as a National Development Manager for a Vanguard. Vanguard are one of the world’s largest investment companies and they manage over $7 trillion for investors throughout the world. Ian is a smart cookie. He’s a Certified Investment Analyst and he was crucial in helping me educate my advice clients on the timeless investor philosophies that were instrumental in their success. Complexity is the enemy but education is your friend. Using that theme Ian and I will be having a conversation about the simple things you need to know when investing in the sharemarket. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. I remember when I originally heard about mindset. I was a young fella and I didn’t take it too seriously. For years, I believed hard work and applying your intelligence was all you needed to be successful. What I came to realise after two decades working with and observing highly successful people was that I couldn’t have been more wrong. Being smart and working hard was part of the recipe for both personal and financial success but the key ingredient was the right mindset. I didn’t just observe that occasionally but time and time again. 'Ignore your mindset at your own peril'. Your mindset will be the difference between success and failure in all aspects of your life. The best sports men and women will tell you without the right mindset you will never succeed and that is why the elite athletes all employ the world’s best mindset coaches. My guest for this episode is mindset coach Shane Bird. Shane and I going to talk about what is mindset, why is it so valuable and if you want to be personally and financially successful how you can manage and improve it. You can find Shane at: - www.shanebird.com/about-me/ - www.facebook.com/shane.bird.afarmersmindshift ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. If you want long term financial success for your family, you must learn how to grow wealth. An all too common mistake I see in families financial planning, is that they focus all their energy on trying to learn how to grow the wealth but very little on protecting what they have grown. To give you an analogy, if you want to harvest a crop, you must grow the crop first. If you don’t protect the crop until it is ready to harvest, then doesn’t matter how good the growing season, you still won't get a crop. One of the ways you can protect your crop is with insurance, but only if you have the right insurance in place. Imagine if you insure your crop for hail and then have a flood and you are not covered! Personal insurance is one of those mechanisms to protect wealth and should be viewed as a critical component of any family’s wealth building plan. You need to protect what wealth you have grown so far, as well as what you will have in the future. You need the right cover, with the right money, going to the right people, at the right time. Today I have Chloe Arthur a Financial Adviser specialising in Wealth Protection to discuss why getting your Wealth Protection right is so important. Both Chloe and I agree that almost 100% of financial plans that came across our desks as advisers, the insurance or protection component of the plan had serious flaws that would have been financially catastrophic to the family should something happen to key members of the family. Whether you have a lot of debt, income or assets to protect, kids that rely on you or a business that cannot afford to fail, then you need to get your wealth protection in place and ‘done right’. You can find Chloe at https://www.findex.com.au/adviser/chloe-arthur. ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. Ben has always been fascinated with what makes people successful. He loves nothing more than picking the brain of people like David to understand why some are successful and others aren’t. As Tony Robbins once said, ‘success leaves clues’ and if you want to find out what makes the exceptional operators so exceptional, then this episode should be right up your alley. David is the Chief of Delivery of RCS Australia which provides integrated training, education, and advisory service to the agricultural sector. David has been collecting and analysing data from producers from across Australia for almost 20 years through RCS’s unique benchmarking and business analysis programs. He is a numbers nerd a bit like Ben, but he has the rare combination of strong analytical skills and the ability to convert that analysis into something practical and useful. Aged care is dauntingly complex and stressful for the family and full of traps for the inexperienced. It can be extremely expensive and contribute to a major loss of family wealth but in many cases with good advice and planning it doesn’t have to. You may be thinking, I don’t need to worry about listening to anything about Aged Care as I’m not going into care anytime soon! Well, think again. You might not be but there's a good chance you'll need to help your parents out with entering care and it often comes sooner than expected. Getting aged care right can be crucial to protecting your family’s intergenerational wealth and it is important to know that sometimes you need to prepare years in advance to get the best outcome. In this episode, Ben and Bruce Baynes will discuss how important planning aged care in advance is for both ensuring family members are well cared for and family wealth is protected. Bruce is the managing director of Sage Care Advice, a financial planning firm specialising in Aged Care Advice. He has over 20 years’ experience as a financial adviser and made the leap to specialising solely in Aged Care when he personally had to navigate the stressful and complex process of getting his father into aged care. Bruce is a wealth of knowledge, a great communicator and a bloody good bloke. You can get hold of Bruce if you go to www.sagecareadvice.com.au . ----------------------- Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth.
