Toxic Relationships...it is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and one of the precursors to violence is toxic behavior in a relationship. This episode explores toxic behaviors such as love-bombing & gas-lighting. We also talk about how our patriarchial society combined with popular culture trains us to see true love as painful and angsty. This episode revisits the conversation I had with my friend, Maida Garcia about violence against women and the way minority women often get left out of the conversation. The original conversation was recorded 2 years ago- after the disappearance of Gabby Petito- a young white woman. I brought this conversation out again because it is very timely for a tragedy my family experienced a few weeks ago when my sister-in-law was murdered in an act of Domestic Violence. My trip to Germany taught me many things about the power of our voices. #1 Fear is a powerful silencing tool. Barbie Movie Spoiler Alert...I will be talking about the Barbie movie today! If you have not seen it yet- go see it! Today we are discussing a part of the Barbie movie that not many people are talking about...Barbie's friend Midge...the pregnant Midge. Midge has come and gone in the Barbie franchise many times since she was introduced in the mid-60's. But it was the pregnant version of Midge that was so controversial. Pregnant Midge was introduced in 2002 as part of the "Happy Family" series with Alan and their son Ryan...and Midge almost immediately created such an uproar that the doll was discontinued that same year. Why the uproar? The overwhelming argument was that a pregnant Midge would encourage & glorify pregnancy....what????? Society is perfectly ok with children playing with baby dolls and pretending to be parents...but not ok with playing with an actual mother. The irony! Support the show I want to hear from you! How do you feel about politics? How do you feel about advocating for your political views? This is a tough, vulnerable topic for me! I was raised in a "high-control religion" (aka: a cult) and was taught from infancy that I was "separate from the world" and was not allowed to have any political opinions or affiliations. I was not even allowed to say the Pledge of Allegiance. I was 20 before I said the Pledge for the first time!!! We live in an alcohol positive culture. Alcohol is the only "drug" that people will question you about when you say, "No thank you, I'm not drinking tonight." This week's guest, Kay Allison, is here to bust through alcohol culture and help people to live a healthy, vibrant, alcohol free life. She calls it "Juicy AF" (Juicy Alcohol Free). In 1999, Kay Allison was a Senior Vice President at a global ad agency and a single mom as her drinking escalated to the point that she went alcohol free. Since then, Kay increased her income 6x, met and married a man she’s still crazy about 21 years later, helped Fortune 200 companies generate $2 billion in new revenue, adopted a child, written two books, invented 4 successful businesses, travelled around the world and moved to her dream town. Most important, she is happy with herself. She’s an executive coach, a healer and a clairvoyant. She lives in a pine forest and meditates by a waterfall every morning. Have you ever felt lost in the fog- you can't see even 5 feet in front of you and you feel a lone in the world and unsure of your path? This is exactly what I experienced in real life on an outing for my 49th birthday. We were in Charleston, South Carolina on a ferry boat out to tour Fort Sumpter. The morning was cold, drizzly, and very, very foggy. Our ferry boat was completely socked in and at one point had ZERO visibility. It felt like we were the only boat on the harbor. On the ferry ride back to Charleston from Fort sumpter, the sun was shining, the fog had lifted...and all around us were incredible sights. We could see HUGE boats in the harbor all around us. We could see the beautiful city skyline. We could see the massive suspension bridge that went across the harbor. None of these were visible just a few short hours ago when the fog blocked our vision. This struck me as a beautiful metaphor for life. So many times we feel lost and alone. We feel like we are in a vast ocean and cannot see 5 feet in front of us. And yet....all around us there are people and opportunities just waiting for the fog to lift. Support the show I want to hear from you! What do 22 hours, political activism, and smashing the patriarchy have in common? They are all related to why I have so many issues with self-care and I am guessing you have similar issues as well. I went to get a massage yesterday at the massage therapy place that I have a membership with. I pay monthly for a massage and yet I very rarely actually go to get one! Wait...whaaat? You heard me right- I do not have a problem paying for the service but I do have a problem taking the time to actually go and get a massage. For some reason the time feels like a luxury that my brain is telling me I do not deserve. Do you have similar internal messages that you are working through? I know the root of these issues is me being raised in a very strict, very patriarchal, cult-like religion. From infancy, I was told that being a female meant I was less valuable than the men around me. I was subservient to them. They were the leaders and I was the follower because of my gender. These are deeply ingrained messages that are so challenging to overcome. I am excited to dive into these topics and the social activism topics that are near and dear to my heart. 2023 is going to see this podcast spend time on tough issues and conversations with inspiring women & female-identifying people that live with radical audacity. BB Easton is the author of Sex/Life: 44 Chapters about 4 men- a book that got turned into the popular, very steamy Netflix series: Sex/Life. She had been a public school employee and self-published her novel....a few years later her novel got turned into a Netflix series and she published half a dozen other books. She is so darn inspiring! Listen to BB Easton's Interview here. June was the start of my new life!!! I officially quit my 20 year carer in public education and began to be the full-time CEO of KaSa Media Productions! It was thrilling and terrifying at the same time! Listen to that episode here . In August Radical Audacity officially turned 1 year old!! One year of podcasting and look what changed....I started a new business, quit my day job, have collaborated with incredible people I admire, spoke on the Keynote stage at Podfest Expo and landed a TED talk! Celebrating milestones together is so important! Listen to that episode here. My crowning accomplishment this year was coordinating and hosting my first virtual summit! It was an event that came with incredible disappointment and incredible satisfaction! We began a movement of stepping into our power and our confidence as female leaders! The holidays often bring up the pain of family relationships that we are often able to keep at bay during the rest of the year. How do you navigate the holidays and family time when you have close family members that are unhealthy for your emotional, mental and even physical well-being? I had to have a difficult conversation with my children this week about why they have not seen my mother, their grandmother, since they were very little. It is a sad story of me being rejected by my mother over religious issues. At one point I had to take a stand, which is a radically audacious move, to protect my children and myself. I would love to hear from you. What painful family situations are you navigating over the holidays? What powerful, radically audacious decisions did you make to protect yourself and your children from the mental, emotional and physical damage that these relationship often bring. Leave me a voice message here so that I can hear your story! Today I was on a walk on a trail I used to walk all the time when my children were little. On the trail is a tunnel that goes under a bridge. My children used to love to go into that grey, drab, corrugated tunnel and dance and yell to hear the echo of their voices...but it always felt a little bit scary to me. As I approached the tunnel today, I noticed something different. I noticed that artists had begun to transform the tunnel from grey and drab to a technicolor work of art. This tunnel is now a place that is vibrant, joyful, and overflowing with colorful creativity. The artists were there working on finishing the base painting and adding the patterns and images that would finish the transformation. It made me think of us as women. It is the perfect metaphor for how we often feel like we are stuck in a colorless, thankless life. We are always doing, doing, doing for others and that makes us feel sad, burned out, exhausted...colorless. Yet, small acts (Like the simple act of painting the tunnel) can bring about a beautiful, technicolor life. Imposter Syndrome is an overly used to term describe the feelings of self-doubt, self-judgement, and shame that often come when we are working to accomplish something new. We may be completely prepared, totally qualified...and still we feel that somehow we don't deserve the thing...the raise, the accolades, the relationship. Dr. Candice Norcott spoke at the Raise Your Volume Virtual Summit and shared a fresh take on imposter syndrome. Rather than saying that imposter syndrome is an internal issue or a mindset issue, she talks about it being a trauma issue. In fact, she talks about the concept of "Soul wounds" that often cause our creative blocks. This episode is a short clip from Dr. Norcott's full length talk. Self-care is a radically audacious act for me. having been raised in an extremely patriarchal religion, self- sacrifice was the expectation. It was ungodly to care too much for yourself. Spending time on a self-care routine rather than a faith routine was seen as self-indulgent. I was also taught that my body was something to be ashamed of as a woman. These messages are so challenging to unlearn. I am now on a journey to unlearn the harmful messages of my past an to embark on a journey of loving the body I am in. Tara McMullin loves talking about the intersection of work and culture. She has been studying how small business owners build their companies, present themselves online, and interact with the culture at large for over 14 years. "Shoulds" and "supposed-tos" are exactly what keep us from radical audacity. Those stories reside in what we've learned about power, status, and how to achieve them. We go with what we're supposed to do so that we can feel like we have some control in a world that would prefer to control us. Tara's book, "What Works: A Comprehensive Framework To Change the Way We Approach Goal Setting" is an antidote to the relentless pursuit of "more" and the culture of striving that we live in. Tara's goal is to help people dismantle those "should" stories and rebuild an infrastructure for growth that's not based on climbing the ladder or achieving individual success at the expense of others. Women live in unprecedented times. This is the first time in history that we are collectively able to share our voices without censorship in many parts of the world, even as our sisters are burning their hijabs and fighting for their rights in others. We can share our stories, perspectives and insights through podcasts, books, videos & social media openly. Our grandmothers and even our mothers often had to share their stories behind a pseudonym or publish under a male colleague's name. We have this great opportunity to be a powerful force for change as women...so how do we gain the confidence to step into our power? I am hosting a summit to inspire you to step into your power and raise the volume of your voice! Your story needs to be told. Your viewpoint matters. Big disappointment often brings big emotions with it. Often these emotions do not feel very comfortable or good. They can feel painful, dark, and sad. I recently had an experience where something I had worked very hard for ended up bringing about a big disappointment. My initial reactions were: feelings of deep, bone-weary sadness feelings anger and righteous indignation feelings of "why am I not good enough for this person?" feelings of embarrassment feelings of worrying that I let my collaborators down massive feelings of confusion & frustration Theses are all very normal human feelings. And it is good to acknowledge those feelings and understand their origins. This episode explores the origin of those feelings and how we can take the next steps to moving through the disappointment. On a recent family trip, we missed our exit off the freeway. Traffic on the freeway was terrible, so instead of trying to turn around and get back to the missed exit, we decided to take a detour to a back roads way to get to our destination. That detour ended up being the best part of the trip! We ended up on a small road where we only saw a few other cars and we saw incredible scenery we would have missed if we had taken the road we were supposed to take. Yes, it added time to our trip- especially since I had to pull over and get pictures- but it also added a rich, beautiful experience that will remain a happy memory! This experience is a true metaphor for our lives, so many times we end up having to take a detour. At the time, the detour feels frustrating...it may take longer, it may not be the road everyone else is one, it may be a bit lonely....but it often ends up being the most beautiful experience that opens up new pathways for us. What does gender trauma and culturally responsive psychiatry have to do with reproductive health? Especially reproductive health, as it relates to women of color and reproductive health service providers in our post Roe V. Wade political system? That's a big question isn't it? To answer that question, I couldn't bring on just anybody. I brought on an incredibly special guest Dr. Candace Norcott. She is a doctor of psychiatry. She's a licensed clinical psychologist, a national consultant and a public speaker. She is an alum of Brown University at the University of Connecticut, and she completed her pre and post-doctoral work in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale university. Her. Biography is phenomenal. Dr. Candice Norcott works as an Assistant Professor and Clinical Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Mental Health Program at the University of Chicago. Her work encompasses coordinating and providing trauma, gender, and culturally responsive psychiatric services to patients referred by the department of obstetrics and gynecology. She is also the director of graduate medical education wellbeing for the University of Chicago, where she brings her trauma informed approach to resident, and physician wellbeing. Dr. Norcott speaks internationally on issues related to trauma, gender, and race. What is your purpose in life? Many people mistake passion for purpose. Or gifts for purpose. Or talents for purpose. Passion, gifts, & talents are lovely- they are things like being good at playing soccer or being a lawyer...but they are not your purpose. Your purpose is your "through-line" in all you do. Surviving: having just enough money to cover your bills- there will be some struggle and sacrifice. this may look like clipping coupons, cutting back on "luxuries", cutting out things that bring you joy. Thriving: there is an abundance of money, time, and energy in your life. Opportunities, money, and love comes your way easily and without worry. How are you living your life? Are you surviving or thriving? When I contemplated this question with my coach, Cathy Heller, I was shocked to realize I was in a surviving mentality rather than a thriving mentality. I do a fun visualization with my clients. We close our eyes and visualize what our possibility fairies look like. I like to tell my clients to imagine that these fairies are all around us at all times just trying to introduce us to incredible opportunities all around us. Then we imagine what our personal opportunity fairies would look like. One of my clients said her opportunity fairy rode on a Harley motorcycle, another said her fairy had tattoos, another said her fairy was pink and sparkly. The important part of this visualization is to be sure to welcome and invite the possibility fairy in. Welcome the possibilities into your life! Other Episodes you may be interested in: Heck Yes! I had the truly fun experience of being a "cast member" on a family TV show with my 11 year old son. We spent a few days in Hollywood being treated like TV royalty. It was a truly fun, memorable experience with my son. It is also an experience that I will not be able to monetize or use to grow my business...and I am perfectly ok with that. I am ok with it because it was a unique experience that brought in a shift in perspective, created memories with my son, and has made my life that much more rich. Many people in the entrepreneurial space will tell you not to spend time and energy on things that do not give you a boost in your business. However, I have to say that I do not fully agree with this viewpoint. It is important to have experiences outside of your business that just make you a more well-rounded person. When we know better, we do better....Maya Angelou inspired the title to this episode. When I first began my coaching career and my podcast, I kept coming across the word "empowerment" and I thought...wow-that is a great word and I would love to empower women. I had visions of Wonder Woman in my head. Fast forward to now and I have totally rethought how I use the word "empowerment". I know that I cannot empower anyone...but I can give people the tools to empower themselves. So I have taken the phrase..."I empower women to..." off all of my social media channels and in the description of this podcast.....However- I missed taking it off my website...hahahaha-ooops! Scarlett Lewis is the mom of little 6-year old Jesse Lewis who was murdered in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012. At six years old, Jesse, alongside 19 of his first-grade classmates and six educators, died. Yet law enforcement says Jesse used his final moments to heroically save nine of his friends. Before his death, Jesse left a message on their kitchen chalkboard, “Norturting Hellin Love” (Nurturing, Healing Love). When Scarlett learned that these words are included in the definition of “compassion” across all cultures, she realized that love, connection, and belonging are universal wants and needs that connect all of humanity. Shortly after his death, Scarlett decided to be part of the solution to the issues that we’re seeing in our society today—and that also caused the tragedy. She created the Choose Love Movement and became an advocate for character development and social and emotional learning (SEL), which teaches children how to manage their emotions, feel connected, and have healthy relationships. In this special bonus episode, I had a special meet-up with a few fellow podcasters to hold space for women to discuss the feelings, emotions, and stories that came up for them when SCOTUS overturned 50 years of reproductive rights. Today you will get to hear the conversation we had in this meetup. Our hopes are that more women will RAISE the volume of their voices and come together to make important changes for women's reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, BIPOC rights, and fair voting laws. Changes need to be made- BIG changes!!! Thank you to Hilary Russo of the Hilistically Speaking Podcast & Emily Palacios/Stephanie LoVerde of the Cycle Chats podcast for helping me to organize this meetup. ( Raw & Unedited Episode) The recent US Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade has led to heated debate on both sides of the topic. I personally am pro-choice and find the decision apaling. However, I draw the line at wishing harm on the Supreme Court justices. I have seen death threats made against the justices and hurtful, dehumanizing remarks made about them. So I ask, can we disagree with someone without wishing them evil? Can we feel angry, hurt, even violated without turning political opponents into subhumans that we take joy in seeing harmed? I turned to a trusted source, Brene Brown, and her book " Braving the Wilderness " to get some insight into this topic. Brene says, "We must never tolerate dehumanization- the primary instrument of violence that has been used in every genocide recorded throughout history." I am interested in hearing what you have to say on this topic. Come DM me on IG and I will share your viewpoint and opinion. When one woman rises we all rise. This week's guests have a strong sense of sisterhood and lifting each other up. Their friendship lifts each other up through mental issues, family life and work life challenges. True female empowerment starts with friendships like this- where support, encouragement and sisterly-love flow from their friendship out into all women. In times like we are currently experiencing, this kind of sisterhood is vital. I was utterly shocked today to have my news app share 2 stories in succession: In Historic Reversal, Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade, Frees States to Outlaw Abortion Overturning a Woman's Right to Choose Supreme Court Bolsters Gun Owner's Rights to Carry a Weapon in Public To say that I am feeling frustrated, shocked, flabbergasted, and angry is just the tip of the iceberg. Radical Audacity is all about us living our truth and authenticity. it means that we DO NOT dim our light, quiet our voice, or put on a smiling face when we are screaming inside. Radical Audacity is acknowledging our feelings, being curious about them, and voicing them. This is a raw, unedited moment of radical audacity for me. I cannot stay quiet about the hurt, rage, anger, or frustration I feel right now. Women's bodies should not be policed! How do you feel when someone says, "I will empower you to...." There was a time when my IG bio said, "I empower women in their 2nd act to live a joyful life on their own terms." ouch...who am I to empower anyone? The definition of "empower" is to give/grant another person the power or authority to do something. Like a boss granting an employee the power to hire someone. Hold on....I don't have that kind of power of anyone's life! So I have been thinking long and hard about the historical meaning behind the word empower and why it is used so often now. I would love to hear how you feel when you hear the word "empower". DM me on IG @tiphanykane Check out my website: www.tiphanykane.com Heck Yes! Some people say they need to let fear go or push past fear or ignore fear to be able to grow. But I disagree. I think fear is a vital form of communication from our inner knowing. Fear may be telling us: Danger! Danger! I am in mortal danger right now and I need to fight, run away or freeze and play dead. But this usually is not the fear we are talking about when it comes to our personal growth. I need more information on this situation. i do not know enough right now to make a clear decision. This is valuable informations and can help us to take action to gather the necessary information before we take action. (This is the most common when it comes to personal growth) I am about to grow in a massive way and this feels scary for me. All my dreams and the things I have worked so hard to achieve may actually be coming true. EEEEK!!!! This is the most common lesson from fear and this is when you know you can move through the fear. If you would like help either gathering more information about what your fear is telling you or moving through the fear to meet your dreams- I would love to be on that journey with you! What is your reaction when you pass a homeless person on the street? Do you turn your head so that you don't look at them too closely? Do you wonder what it is that put them in the position of being homeless? Does it make you feel vulnerable- like this could be you if life events were just a bit different? Do you wish you could solve the homeless problem? Do you wonder if there is anything you could do to make it better? This bonus episode digs into the homeless (unhoused, as my friend Ashlyn calls it) challenge and we get to talk to someone who is making a difference! Ashlyn Shoup is a teacher, mother of 2 young children, and lives in a community in Southern California that has seen a recent surge in the homeless population. Ashlyn realized that these people are her neighbors and started a non-profit organization to help them. Ashlyn's organization, M.A.D.E. for Others is raising funds for a very special day! They want to have warm showers, clean clothes, warm meals, dental & medical care, and haircuts for the unhoused population. All she needs to raise is $4,000. When we finish a chapter- be it a relationship, a job, or a home- we can look at it as a change in our soul calling. It does not mean you are better than you were before or that your new path is better than before- it is just that your soul has evolved and shifted- your soul contract with that part of your life is completed. Today was the last day in my 20 year career in public education and I feel like I am flying free and unchained. It is an exhilarating feeling and I am so excited to talk about it with you today! As women, we are often taught to be seen and not heard. We are asked to play small, behave modestly and don't live too loud. This translates into women being reluctant to share and celebrate our successes. We often blush when someone recognizes our accomplishments. We play down the things we do well. We brush off recognition. I would like us to shift that narrative and begin celebrating our successes. The more we lean into celebrating our own success, the more other women can be inspired to celebrate their own success!!! So let's celebrate!!! Episode 100!!!!!!!! BB Easton is the pure embodiment of Radical Audacity! She began her professional life as a school psychologist...she did all the things she was "supposed" to do. She got married to a loving, reliable man, she went to school for 7 years to get her advanced degree in school psychology, she had children, she began her career....and almost a decade into that career she realized she totally lost herself. So BB Easton wrote a book. Not just any book. She wrote a memoir about her hot, steamy, pretty kinky sex life. In writing this book, BB found herself, her power, & her voice. BB Easton"s advice to us all: People need to find time for their passions. It doesn't have to become a career, but those talents and passions are what make you who you are. When you let them die, you lose a part of yourself. How do we overcome the Fear of Failure? I was interviewed by Authority Magazine and asked that question. This topic is so timely right now so i wanted to dive deeper into it with you. First of all, "overcoming the fear of failure" does not mean never being afraid of failure. It simply means we are able to overcome the FEAR! Here are the 5 Ways that I found to be most helpful to overcome the fear of failure: Step Back and Take a Deep Breath to asses where the fear is coming from. Be curious about your fear. Seek help from a coach, a therapist, or a mentor. Take steps to move toward your goal. Reflect on your growth and what you learned from the experience. (Episode Note: This episode contains discussions of rape and sexual trauma) Madeleine Black has an unusual personal story that she uses to inspire and motivate others. She chose to forgive the two men who gang-raped her at thirteen years old and she shares her story for many reasons. Madeleine wants to end the shame, stigma, and silence surrounding sexual violence enabling others to find their voice, whatever their story is. She wants people to know that it’s not what happens to us that is important but what we do with it. Madeleine is passionate about discussing how changing her mindset tapped into her resilience and transformed her life, making people question their own thinking and encouraging them to see that there are always choices to make, and if we choose to, we can get past anything that happens to us in life both professionally and in our personal life. She wants to encourage others to live their life courageously too; but ultimately she wants to inspire hope and show people that we are all so much stronger than we think we are. Madeleine Balck is a 2x TEDx speaker, a psychotherapist, a podcaster, and an author. Madeline's memoir, Unbroken, was published on April 4th 2017. My guest this week has always lived life on her own terms. Straight out of high school, Tamara Schoon trained to become a Russian linguist. She then moved through military ranks to become a high-ranking female officer...and now she has added stand-up comedy and podcasting to her fascinating resume. My takeaways: Go for the hard things... the journey is going to be so fun if you do! Talk about the uncomfortable things- you can change someone's life just by talking about the topics that most people consider taboo. I don't normally do episodes about TV shows, but since I'm sitting at home recovering from surgery, I have had some time to watch a bit of television. I am absolutely fascinated by the lessons that I learned from this brilliant young woman who rose fast and fell hard. The big lessons I talk about today: When we create metrics for success that are very capitalistic in nature, it creates a cutthroat environment where we can bend our morals to achieve that success. Instead of extrinsic success, we really need to dig deep inside and ask what true success looks like and how it aligns with who we authentically are. We need community & collaboration. Women need to change the way things are done and we need to start championing collaboration. None of us can do this thing called life on our own. We don't need to be Superwoman! There are times when, as a podcaster, you connect with another podcaster as "kindred spirits" and become friends. Hilary Russo is just that person! Hilary had me as a guest on her podcast, HIListically Speaking. This episode is that interview. I am in awe of Hilary's interview style. Oprah Winfrey says, "Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you." Passion is a strong and barely controllable emotion. Living in authenticity to our passion means we are honoring the things that we are enthusiastic and eager about exploring and doing. Living in integrity with our passion means we feel an unflagging zeal and energy about the things we are doing. Purpose, on the other hand, is the REASON we do or create something. It is an intention and something we work to attain. We might build our goals around our purpose. The sweet spot in living a Heck Yes! life is finding the areas where our passion and our purpose overlap. Where do your passion and purpose overlap? You have breast cancer....every woman fears hearing these words. In fact, just recently, I personally had an experience with an abnormal mammogram that led to extra imaging and definitely sent me into a painful fear spiral. This week's podcast guest, Jessica Baladad, was diagnosed with breast cancer just a few years ago as a young woman. She was too young for breast cancer and yet here she was, fighting for her life. The only reason she found out she had breast cancer was because she found a lump during her personal monthly breast exam. Now Jessica has dedicated herself to helping other women take charge of their own personal breast health by creating an app called "Feel For Your Life" that educates women on how and when to do their own monthly breast exam. In this episode, I discuss how we process grief & trauma. I wonder, what words and actions from others help you to feel supported in your moments of grief & trauma? In the past few months, I have been on a challenging health journey. As you all know, I will be having a hysterectomy in just a few weeks. That, in and of itself, has been emotional. To top that off, I had an abnormal mammogram come back and needed further imaging. This experience upped my anxiety and sense of trauma. I found that when I reached out to people for comfort, sometimes the words offered back to me were not comforting at all. So I thought this would be an interesting topic to dive into and discuss on a deeper level. Listen to the Death & a Hysterectomy episode here I am fascinated to hear your opinion. Have you ever been told that you are “too much”...too loud…too opinionated…too ambitious? This week’s guest has been told all of those things and instead of playing small and dimming her light, she decided to lean into her ambition, immerse herself in exploring ambition, and be curious about ambition. She immersed herself in it so much that she created a podcast called “Women of Ambition”. I am so inspired by Alyssa Hulme and I know you will be too! My Takeaways: Being ambitious means wanting more out of life. Choose to have a better life and pursue your dreams even when it is uncomfortable. How we, as women exist in the world, is our divine right as human beings. Live into the gifts & talents we have been given. We are not meant to live small ad exist for the comfort of others. The shame around ambition is just a false belief and other people projecting their insecurities. Ambition is neither positive or negative- your other personality traits will make ambition positive/negative. Welcome to Season 2 of Love & Life and to the rebrand of the podcast. This podcast was formerly Love & Life After Divorce and is now Radical Audacity in Love & Life. Radical Audacity radical is living your life in a way that may be radically different from what society expects of you. It's that knowing who you are deep inside, knowing yourself and knowing what is right for you and really claiming that it's you living your life held high and saying, okay, you can't take me down by shame. Radical audacity is living in a way that says to the world, "You can't make me feel shame for any of these things that happened to me in my life. And I will talk about them and I will explore them. And I will make a difference in somebody else's life that they don't feel the shame and they don't feel alone." Brianne Davis is a woman of many extraordinary talents. She is the host of the Secret Life Podcast, author of the book "Secrets of a Hollywood Sex & Love Addict", as well as a talented actress and producer. However, her greatest talent is her ability to release the weight of shame from people. Brianne has been a recovered Sex & Love Addict for the past 12 years. Her mission now is to live her life authentically and free of shame. She helps others free themselves of shame as well by giving them a platform to share their secrets. Brianne's story and outlook on life can be an inspiration to us all. There is so much shame that often comes with divorce. It may be societal shame from a "failed" marriage. Or perhaps shame from a religious institution or even from the events that led up to the divorce. I hope listening to Brianne's story helps you to release any shame you are carrying. Today we talk about an exercise that helps us with letting go of things we cannot control. Activity: Trace your hand on a piece of paper Write inside the palm of your hand the things that you CAN control- your feelings, your thoughts, your words, your actions Everything else gets written outside your hand... these are the things you cannot control- your car breaking down, the weather, your child getting sick, your x-partner Because you cannot close your hand on these things outside your hand- you must let go of them. You cannot control them. Close your hand around those things you CAN control. Focus on them. Let go of everything else. Does this activity help you during this holiday season? This week we get to learn from an incredible woman who's a bit of a celebrity in the divorce community, Dr. Elizabeth Cohen, also known as "The Divorce Doctor"! The holidays can bring so many emotions and insecurities into our lives. We want the holidays to be perfect and magical, yet often as single parents or blended families, the holidays bring incredible challenges. In this week's Tiphany's Talks, I share a vulnerable DM from a lovely listener that is asking how to navigate the holidays with more compassion and forgiveness for her difficult ex. I love this DM. This listener inspired me to think about the holiday season as falling in a joyful way...like when your baby is learning to walk. There is so much joy in the 2 little steps and then the fall. Our babies laugh, get up, take a few steps, stumble and then laugh. Can we look at our challenges the same way? All these things that are coming up this holiday season are opportunities for us to grow in our ability to set boundaries & connect with others. We won't get it right all the time. We will fall sometimes. But that is ok. This episode is going to be the first in my series for the holidays of examining our social-emotional health. We have been looking at specific practices to cultivate gratitude. The first way was to write Thank You notes to the people in your life (you can listen to that episode here ) The second way to cultivate gratitude is to keep a Gratitude Journal ( listen to that episode here ) A third way to cultivate gratitude is by creating a family practice of counting your blessings. ( listen to that episode here ) Today we finish our cultivating gratitude conversation with the practice of meditation. Meditation is the most challenging gratitude practice for me. Mindfulness meditation is about being present in the moment you are in right now. Stopping, taking a breath, noticing, calming your mind & releasing judgment. Do you meditate? Gratitude is a way for us to appreciate what we have instead of continually reaching for something new in the hope that it will make us happier. Gratitude helps us to focus on what we have instead of focusing on what we lack. When we do this, we live more satisfied and abundant lives. One way to cultivate gratitude is to practice writing "Thank You Notes" to people. This act will make you feel happier and has the added bonus of nurturing relationships. My challenge for you: Write one thank you note every day for the next 7 days. Write on sticky notes, in a card, in a text message, in an email... it doesn't matter- just write a thank you note to someone every day for 7 days. Be sure to include yourself on one of these days!! Oprah Winfrey on Gratitude: "Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough." These words of wisdom are guiding me as I move into the holiday season. I have been sick with Covid and will still be in quarantine for Thanksgiving. My children will be spending Thanksgiving with their father. So I need to be very aware of the things I HAVE instead of what I do not have. I have love. I have a home. I have health insurance. Whimsical playfulness shows up as people that often break the conforming rules of society by having fun and not worrying about what other people think of them. This may show up as someone who sings in the car, loves Disney, dresses up in cosplay, wears big earrings or a crazy jacket. Our 4 types of playfulness we covered these last few days were: 1) Other-Directed - you enjoy fun activities with others like rollerskating, dancing and bike riding 2) Lighthearted- you laugh easily and find amusement in small things. You don't take yourself or others too seriously. Even an embarrassing moment can be turned into something to laugh about. 3) Intellectual playfulness- you love board games, card games, riddles & puzzles. An escape room is a great night of fun for you. 4) Whimsical playfulness- you love whimsey and don't feel the need to conform to societal rules. Maybe you are an adult that loves Disney, or you love to dress up in cosplay. Maybe you love to sing at the top of your voice in the car. Maybe you have a pair of hot pink velvet pants you love to pair with a funky patterned jacket. What kind of playfulness are you? Radical audacity- is the ability to step outside of your ego and do that thing you didn't think you could do. Audacity is when we step out of our comfort zone. Audacity is when you claim your self-worth and step outside of what society expects of you. Audacity is realizing you have a gift that can help others and being willing to offer it to people. Momster: aka a mommy that has a meltdown and turns into a monster... Have you ever had one of those days? When we look on social media, we see the pretty, shiny "in front of the curtain" lives of people. But guess what....we all have those not-so-pretty momster behind the curtain moments. The other night I had one of those moments- this episode is about that moment and how my partner lovingly and kindly helped me to stop escalating and come back into my body. these momster moments often happen because we are not taking care of our own personal needs. I know I wasn't. I had a terrible headache & instead of taking care of it I allowed myself to spin into an anxiety momster. I love my poor, sweet anxiety momster side of me. She needs so much compassion and love.... and she needs to take headache medicine and GO TO BED!!! hahahaha Thank you for being on this journey with me. Pregnancy- from the journey to get pregnant or the surprise pregnancy all the way to postpartum motherhood, can be especially difficult for women who find themselves as single moms. This week’s guest, Sami Wunder, is a leading international dating and relationship coach who specializes in helping high-achieving women attract and keep romantic love. Her comprehensive approach shows her clients how to embrace strong relationship boundaries, while still emanating inviting feminine energy. Sami teaches her clients that embracing feminine energy and the ability to set strong boundaries are the keys to truly practicing self-love. What is feminine energy? Feminine energy is the “being” energy which is in contrast to the masculine "doing" energy. When you are in this “being” energy, you are in receptive mode and allow your man, experiences, and life itself, to fill you up. This is again opposite to masculine energy, which is a forward-moving, penetrative force that “gets things done”. As strong women, we have both masculine & feminine energy inside us. However, feminine energy often gets pushed to the side- which makes us feel tired, drained & resentful. When you are in your feminine energy, you are not busy doing, but instead enjoying that which is before you. This idea of “not doing and just being” may feel like an alien and almost annoying concept at first, especially to those of us who have trained ourselves to be in our masculine 24/7. However, it helps to remember that reconnecting with our femininity is the key to restoring that balance that is missing today from so many women’s lives. On this week's episode of Tiphany's Titillating Talks, I discuss the importance of taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone. Making the decision to leave a marriage that no longer works for you is a big risk. Starting over after divorce is a big risk. Saying yes to new experiences is a big risk. These risks create opportunities for growth and expansion. I share with you several ways that I have been taking risks lately. I talk about how my previous guest, Megan Champion gives a great example of taking a small risk. And I share how my mentor & teacher, Cathy Heller, encourages all of her students to see beyond the lowest fruit on the lowest branch of the tree. She encourages us to reach higher. This week's guest, Vivian Ngongangogunyemi, is a doctor in nursing practice specializing in psychiatry and a relationship coach. This week's Titillating Talks with Tiphany: I love my neurodiverse children. I talk about the challenges and joys of single-parenting my 2 neurodiverse children. What is Neurodiversity? Neurodiversity refers to variation in the human brain regarding social connections, learning, attention, mood, and other mental functions in a way that says, "Ok- your brain works differently and that's ok." Neurodiversity may look like autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, dyslexia, severe anxiety, Tourette's Syndrome, and more. The neurodiversity movement works to bring awareness to the idea that neurodiversity does not require a cure. No longer are these brains looked at as having a "condition, disease, disorder, or illness". So, yes, both my kiddos are neurodiverse. Their brains work differently, which means I need to parent in a different, more understanding, more creative way. And I GET IT WRONG so often!! But that's ok. Being a single mom can be challenging, being a single mom of neurodiverse children takes challenging to a whole new level. At the same time, the amount of work I have to put in to understand my children has created a bond and closeness that I am forever grateful for. My boys help me to see the world in a different way and I cherish that! I want to hear your stories about parenting your neurodiverse children! On this week's episode of Titillating Talks with Tiphany, I bring you in on an important conversation about minority women and domestic violence that I am having with my good friend, Maida Garcia. Maida helps me to understand the issue of domestic violence and intimate partner abuse from the lens of the minority community. She explains that too many times when a woman of color reports a domestic abuse crime, her reports go ignored. Likewise, when a woman of color goes missing, her disappearance rarely makes the news. We discuss how cultural views & a lens of privilege often creates an environment where women of color are not seen as victims that need to be helped and supported. October is both Domestic Violence Awareness Month & Hispanic Heritage Month. Now is the time to amplify voices of women of color and shine a light on the problem of domestic violence in their community. The following organizations provide support to women of color: Esperanza United - mobilizes Latinas &Latinx communities to end gender-based violence National Domestic violence Hotline - Free, confidential help is only a phone call away 24/7 BELatina - News, entertainment, lifestyle for Latina's Women of Color Network - Centralizes the voices, wellness, and leadership of women of color To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and to immerse yourself in the culture, Maida recommends these books: - Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel -Rain of Gold by Victor Villasenor - The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros -100 years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez -Bless Me Ultima byRudolfo Anaya - Any book written by Isabelle Allende- there are too many good ones to list - Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika Sanchez -Fat Chance Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado -Of Women and Salt by Gabriela Garcia -My Broken Language by Quiara Alegria Hudes - Colonize This by Daisy Hernandez Victor Rios Ted Talk Please contact me and let me know what you think of this episode: DM me on Instagram Visit my website Join the Love & Life Membership community Purchase #selflove merchandise Let me know what you thought of this episode: DM me on Instagram: @ tiphanyKane Come visit my website: www.tiphanykane.com <

This week's episode of "Tiphany's Titillating Talks" is on the topic of domestic violence and intimate partner abuse. The murder of Gabby Petitio has brought the discussion of intimate partner violence to the forefront of media coverage. This episode begins a series of looking deeper into domestic violence and intimate partner abuse. Where & how does it start? Who can become a victim of abuse? What is abuse? How do you escape abuse? Why does abuse get media coverage for some and yet other voices and experiences seem to be missing from the conversation? Over the course of the next several weeks, I will be diving deeper into this sensitive and important topic. If you are currently experiencing intimate partner abuse, please know that you are not alone. You can get help! Please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) to get the help you need. I will donate $$ for every download of this episode to Laura's House, an organization that inspires hope and aims to end domestic violence. In this episode, Erin Schmidt & Tiphany talk about how running and healthy movement brought them sanity after divorce. Erin, a Registered Nurse, and personal trainer, tells her story of being left by her husband when she was 5 months pregnant! The shock of suddenly becoming a single mom to an infant led her on a journey to finding herself. This journey of healing and self-discovery brought her on a path where she now helps people to improve their health through diet and exercise. Erin offers wise advice and positive energy for women who find themselves in pain after divorce. Her belief is that blood flowing through the body creates healing. As a nurse, Erin knows that if there is no blood flow to a wound, the wound will not heal. Healing the wounds of divorce is very similar. Movement and exercise create blood flow to all parts of your body, including to your brain. This helps the hurt to leave your heart, the shame to leave your brain, and helps you to connect with others. In this episode, we discuss how the challenges of single-parenting can be compounded when you are parenting a neurodiverse child (or children). This episode is special in my heart because I am the mother of two neurodiverse children. Neurodiversity is defined as being able to view differences, such as autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities, as variations in the human brain rather than weaknesses or problems that need to be “fixed” or “cured.” They’re simply variations of the human brain. Neurodiverse children experience, interact with and interpret the world in unique ways. That can sometimes create challenges. But it can also lead to creative problem-solving and new ideas — things that benefit everyone. Megan Champion is a 15-year classroom teacher and the mother of 8-year old boy/girl twins, plus a 5-year old wild child. After many difficult years raising her neurodiverse, out-of-the-box son, she started sharing her experiences on her podcast, On The Hard Days, and now features other moms around the world raising out-of-the-box kids to share their stories, too. Megan also launched a support group community specifically for moms of neurodiverse children, Mothers Together. Off of social media, this community is a judgment-free, safe space to share struggles, wins, and to ask for advice in small groups. Megan's mission is simple: To give a voice and a platform to mothers who often stay hidden, out of shame, guilt, self-doubt, and fear of being judged. On this week's, Titillating Talks with Tiphany, we discuss a topic submitted by a lovely listener. This lovely listener left a message in my DM explaining that she was ashamed she had stayed in a terrible marriage for a very long time and she asked me to help her to understand why we stay in these difficult relationships so long after we know they aren't working. I am so grateful for this listener's vulnerability and openness. Did you know that there is actually a good amount of research done on this topic? In this episode, I dive into some of this research to help us understand the psychology of why we stay. Research shows that one thing that keeps in these bad relationships is the fear of being alone. To help with this fear, I have created a membership group just for women that are healing after divorce. This episode launches that membership!! Yay!! On this week's Tittilating Talks with Tiphany, I share a very vulnerable feeling I am experiencing right now. You see....I have fallen in love again! After 7 years of being single & dating after divorce, I am in a committed relationship. And, dang... sometimes being open to love again after divorce feels downright scary. Relationships open us up to all the vulnerability that comes with being willing to trust someone again. Who feels the same way as me? The good thing is that being in love also feels amazing! Especially when you have a partner that steps up and does all the things. DM me and tell me how you feel about falling in love again. In this episode, Navi & Tiphany discuss the feelings of shame that often accompany divorce and how to move past those feelings. Sometimes these feelings of shame can keep us isolated from the ones we love and can keep us from seeking the help and connection we need. Being able to move past those feelings of shame helps us to open up to receiving the love and support we need. This week's guest is Navi Bliss, certified love and relationship coach, certified inspirational speaker, and host of the Blissful Love podcast. She has also been featured Global News and CTV and has a viral video on A Plus Media and Chicken Soup for the Soul. Growing up with a mother who was physically and emotionally abusive left Navi with a tattered sense of self and low self-esteem. This sent her on a path of horrible, toxic, and abusive relationships until she reached her breaking point in 2016 after walking away from a particularly difficult relationship. After going on a healing journey, Navi was able to flip the script on her own life and is now determined to help others to do the same. As a coach, Navi’s mission in life is to help people fall head over heels in love with themselves so that they can effortlessly attract blissful love into their lives. As an inspirational speaker, Navi uses her own stories of overcoming childhood abuse and neglect, to inspire others that anything is possible and they too can overcome any obstacles in their way. This week on Tiphany's Titillating Talks, we dive deep into the shame that surrounds divorce. This episode is inspired by a listener that left a message on my Instagram DM asking how she can handle the shame of divorce when she is talking to her work acquaintances, friends, and family. Brene Brown's research on shame is the cornerstone of this episode. We explore what shame is and how to move through it, past it, and into a safer space. Shame is a form of disconnection, so we discuss vulnerability as a means of connection. We look into who earns your vulnerability and how to communicate with people at each level of earned vulnerability. This episode is filled with empathy, love & compassion. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Going through a divorce takes all of your strength and courage. This Love & Life After Divorce community is here to support you with love. Connect with Tiphany! Swat Kasham is a phenomenally talented photographer that captures the inner magic of a person. In this episode, Swat reveals how a talented photographer can help you to heal and love yourself again after divorce. Swat firmly believes that we should "not be absent from the memories" of our families. Often, women are the family photographers, capturing vacations, special events, and important memories for the family. Yet, we often are not in the photographs ourselves. Swat encourages all of us to get in front of the camera and allow ourselves to be seen. (Tiphany's Tittlilating Talks) How do you take a trigger, learn from it, and move forward in a healthy way? In this episode, Tiphany explores how a negative comment about an article she wrote triggered an old wound. The comment wasn't THAT bad...it was more of a bee sting comment than a total "hater" comment. And yet, it was a comment that cut to Tiphany's core because of how close it was to the criticisms she faced in her toxic marriage. Instead of wallowing in the hurt and pain, Tiphany turned this into a moment of growth and expansion. Tiphany came to the realization that when we share our ideas and thoughts in a vulnerable way, we are connecting our experience with the event we are reflecting on. Our ideas are valid, important, and uniquely ours. Our voices are uniquely ours. What we have that is uniquely ours should be shared as a way to connect with others. So of course, it is all about me...all about you...all about us... and that is #selflove NOT selfish. Tiphany wrote and published an article in response to the hater and also created her own merchandise line. Kill the Unicorns 🦄🌈Wait....what?!?! In this episode, life coach Janine Durso explains what "unicorns" are and why we need to kill them to live a happy life. Do any of these sound familiar?.... - I will be happy when my ex-husband pays child support. - I will be happy when I lose 20 pounds. - I will be happy when I get that promotion. - I will be happy on vacation. Janine calls these unicorn thoughts because they are elusive thoughts that are holding us back from true happiness. In this "Titillating Talks with Tiphany" episode, I share something that I am a bit ashamed to admit. I get vulnerable and share with you all that sometimes I get judgemental. I don't want to be judgemental, but sometimes my insecurities and triggers bring out my judgy side. When Simone Biles pulled herself out of most of the Olympic Competition, I stood with her and supported her..... after my initial shock and judgemental inner dialogue. What I came to realize is that everytime I judge someone else harshly, it is really because I am judging myself harshly. In this episode, I explore where this judgement comes from and why it is so important to reflect and understand the roots of the judgement. I come to understand that self-love often means quitting those things that are harming us and not serving our greater good. I realize that Simone Biles gets a gold medal in self-love.
