SEASON 2 FINAL EPISODE! 1 year ago (tomorrow) I launched season 2 of What Nik Knows. It was formally known as Leader of the Pax and I solely focused on female entrepreneurship. 45 episodes later (40 live and 5 saved for season 3 launch!) the 2nd season of my podcast expanded more than I could ever have imagined. Beyond downloads, came new clients, new partnerships, and oh SO MUCH LEARNING! When I started BMB I made a real effort in providing resources for pregnant, postpartum, and newish moms because we were in smack dap in the middle of quarantine. So the podcast become an educational and inspirational space for mothers, entrepreneurs, and personal development junkies. We focused on mental, physical, and emotional health, relationships, parenting, and identity and purpose. We cried and laughed and damn did we grow. Today on the What Nik Know’s Podcast I celebrate the 40th and final episode of the 2nd season. The theme of today’s show is all about doing less and being more and that’s the mentality I’ll be taking with me as I hibernate before season 3 launch. Beyond that I talk about the different guests we’ve had and topics we’ve covered throughout the year and dang am I grateful to have had these incredible people on the show! I want to thank you for helping me grow this podcast. Because of you we are just about to hit 5,000 downloads which is a huge feat in itself. I produced many of these episodes with out childcare and nearly all of them without any production management help. Until next season, ciao!

Raise your hand if you struggle or have struggled with your body image? Yeah, that’s what I thought. A whole lot of us struggle with this. Women are critiqued on their bodies right from the get-go. Too thin, too big, too soft, too muscular, too sexualized, too puritan… there is no win. Today on the What Nik Know’s podcast I have the amazing @mollykatewellness who is a Body Image mentor. Molly is a Body Image Coach and Mentor who believes that you can learn the skills of radical body acceptance in any body size. She loves watching people discover their inherent worthiness and step into the confident life they are meant for! Molly started coaching as a Certified Health Coach finding her niche in Intuitive Eating. Very quickly she discovered that food wasn't the root of the problem. She found that underneath that layer of food obsession, was an unhealthy relationship to our bodies. Molly's approach combines improving your body image through your head, your heart, and your body. She believes that everyone has all the tools they need within themselves and that each person has their own unique gifts and intuition to uncover! Molly believes that the more people there are being unapologetically themselves, the stronger we are as a whole! I relate to this so much- food isn’t the problem, it’s the way I see myself. I’ve shared on previous shows that body image and my relationship with food has been an ever changing and evolving relationship and I loved learning from Molly today. Here are some of the amazing things you’ll hear on today’s show: The difference between mindful eating and intuitive eating How orthorexia shows up as healthy eating habits American women and body image How social media impacts our body image and what to do about it Breaking the belief system that our bodies are the only thing valuable about us How to teach children about a healthy body image right from the start How to set internal and external boundaries If its OK to lose weight or just love yourself as you are Diet culture BS Make sure to follow and connect with Molly at : mollykatewellness@gmail.com , www.mollykatewellness.com and her instagram account @mollykatewellness

Personal development is not a Tony Robbins seminar… as much as you’d like to think so. Today on the What Nik Know’s pod I go unscripted + unfiltered about my thoughts on personal development exertion. We spend thousands of dollars and years doing THE WORK when really we need to do less WORK and more listening in. Seminars, coaching, podcasts, books, all these things are tools to empower the journey but they aren’t the answer. Personal development is not a seminar- it’s within you. Are you the kind of entrepreneur that opens your computer and is unsure what to do for work everyday? This tends to happen when the big picture is still being worked out. This can also happen when you go into a client lull. Today on the What Nik Knows Podcast I am teaching my 4c Framework that I share with my coaching clients. I love my 4 c framework because it helps move you forward- it gives you tangible steps to take in your business…every single day. Another reason why I l teach my 4C Framework is because it helps keep your client pipeline full which equates to serving more clients + more dollassss in your bank account. The 4 c’s stand for: Collaborations, Conversations, Clients, and Content In order to keep a full client pipeline - you must first learn where your clients are coming from once you know that then you can begin to fill in the 4c’s. These 4 C’s will always be in play- but some might be more than others depending on what you have going on. To learn more on how to implement these c’s in your business make sure to go download my newest episode live on iTunes, Spotify, Google Podcasts, + iheartradio! Link in bio!

Welcome back to the What Nik Knows Podcast! I’m your host Dr. Nikki Sammet and you’re about to listen to my most cherished episode ever! I recorded an episode with my husband, Jarrod! We’ve been talking about this the entire time I’ve had my podcast - that we should record our conversations and While our son snoozed soundly away we recorded an episode together and today is the day you finally get to hear one of them. As you’ll hear today, Jarrod, is a very special person and I’m not just saying that because he’s my husband. He’s an incredible father, leader, and friend. His philosophy on life is so profound so grab your notebooks and get ready to write things down. I guarantee you’ll ask yourself, “is this guy always so positive?” And to answer the question, YES…yes he is. I should have known that my husband would wear multiple hats in our life… my parents were the same growing up. Therapists, parents, friends, etc. That’s what Jarrod is for me- he’s all the things. Husband, father, best friend, coach, partner, inspiration, guide, and so much more. I’ve had the honor of watching him blossom into himself over the past 10 years and it’s been such a gift. Jarrod is currently a Director of Operations at Insight Global, a Professional Services organization, where he has spent the last 9.5 years of his career. He is currently in the midst of a transition to Managing Director of Culture and Leadership Strategy where he will focus on culture change and leadership development under the building blocks of Emotional Intelligence and Personal Development. Jarrod has been in leadership the past 8 years, is a practitioner of Transcendental Meditation (TM), and has taught Mindfulness and Personal Development practices within his organization. He lives in Encinitas, CA with his wife of 5.5 years Nikki, his 15 month old son Jake, and dog Pax. Jarrod's core philosophy centers around taking care of yourself first before you can take care of others and the world around you. Here’s a few things you’ll hear on today’s episode: How to support your partner while going through postpartum How to create more balance in relationships through communication What steps to take in order to improve your communication skills Why putting yourself first is the important and SELFLESS thing you’ll ever do What the mental load looks like in men An inside look into Transcendental Meditation and how it can be a gateway into personal development AND SO. MUCH. MORE. This episode is LIVE on iTunes, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and iHeartRadio! What’s your take on manifestation? Believer or nah? On today’s episode of the What Nik Know’s podcast I’m going to share with you my perspective on manifesting and 8 steps that you can start doing today! I believe manifesting is a mindset…a way of being.. a way of living. It’s your thought process. It’s what and how you envision your life unfolding. And let me tell you this- it’s a choice. If you’re not familiar with this term it’s basically the idea of bringing something tangible into your life through attraction and belief…like if you put it out there it will come to fruition There are so many different ways to manifest - some people do it through meditation others through visualization or just your conscious or subconscious. For a long time I though this was bull shit. Until things I kept thinking about came true. And signs kept showing up around me once I picked something (I’m a big sign girl) Like the house we live in now. I wrote everything down on a post it and a few months later it appeared. Of course it wasn’t PERFECT. (Because that doesn’t exist) and exactly what I had in my head but shit it came pretty damn close. Or my husband. I found an old journal from 7th grade at my parents house. I flipped it open and landed on a page called “My dream boy”…and it event had the name “Jared” on the list. Last week I had a meeting that I have been drumming up for YEARS. I remember the first time I thought about this collaboration happening. How I felt when I was asked, how I’d respond, the exact verbiage they would use when speaking to me and I kid you not I had that meeting last week and it went exactly how I had experienced it in my head. THAT IS MANIFESTING. Manifesting does NOT mean that if you think positively it will appear tomorrow or that you’re not allowed to have bad days. It doesn’t mean that if you create a vision board it’s automatically going to come true. It doesn’t mean if you wish for it tonight it will come true tomorrow. So here are my 8 steps to you on how to start manifesting your dream life: Start a meditation and/or mindfulness practice Journal (grab the 5 minute journal if you’re new too journaling) Write a “wish list” about that specific thing Find your thinking place (aka your inspirational place) mine is walking or driving with music (not lately in the car because I have cocomelon on repeat) Feel all the things about what you envision…the way you feel, how you’re dressed, who’s around you etc. Add as many details as you can. Don’t try to imagine exactly how the thing or outcome becomes yours; instead focus solely on the end result of recieving what you desire. Listen you can spend all day day dreaming but if you don’t take action then it’s not going to happen. Start t

I am OBSESSED with today’s podcast episode with Jen and Brandyn from @ParentTeam. We covered so many topics & the biggest theme through it all was about partnerships- both business and personal. Jen & Brandyn lay out key factors that can make or break relationships and how to set yourself up for success! Here are some of the other things we talked about: 1. Parenting from two homes 2. How our past influences our parenting 3. Why conflict begins after we have children 4. The keys to success in building a long lasting and powerful partnership both in marriage and in business 5. The value of communication and how to talk with one another especially around uncomfortable topics There is no guidebook on how to navigate these things, how to create boundaries, how to be real with one another. Parent Team has an online course that provides courses for parents to help get on the same page, no matter if they are parenting from one home or two. Jen & Brandyn believe that when people are given the skills and tools for difficult challenges in life, both they and their children are better equipped. I love their mission, so I HAD to share it with you today. Head over to iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts and check out today's episode of What Nik Knows... A few years ago, I studied 75 millennial women who used Instagram for business, pleasure, and everything in between for my doctoral research. Here's what I learned... I learned about their habits, mindset shifts, and mental health struggles all while using this little app. And FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER I am sharing all of my findings in my most recent podcast episode!! In part one of, "How Social Media Impacts Millennial Women," you'll hear about: 1. How social media apps like instagram increase upward comparison to our peers 2. How social media usage and experience depends on both current state of mind and life fulfillment 3. The dopamine impact 4. Ways to own your tech instead of letting it own you 5. How likes can determine one’s self worth, social acceptance, and belonging 6. Which social media platform is the most used AND SO MUCH MORE! I am so excited to finally get this research out and can’t wait to hear what you guys think. At the very end I ask a couple important questions, so make sure to listen to the end and follow up with me in the DMs! Today on the What Nik Knows podcast we will be discussing The Three Sisters: Perfectionism, Procrastination, and Imposter Syndrome. Why do I call them sisters? Because I see them as a family. The three of them share many many many characteristics and once you can determine where your behavior is coming from- meaning the deeper issues at hand -you can start to make progress towards the goals you want to achieve. All three of these sisters block us from leveling up. Today I am going to be sharing insight on all three of the areas while also giving you tips and support on how to beat them in your day to day life! Some take aways from today's episode: 1. Procrastination is an emotional regulation problem not a time management one 2. Procrastinatory cognitions lead to greater distress and MORE procrastination 3. There are 3 domains of perfectionism 4. We often pivot once we realize that things are too hard or we "failed" 5. How can perfectionism be a good thing 6. Women suffer from imposter syndrome more than men 7. What is imposter syndrome 8. Where does imposter syndrome come from 9. Raise your hand if you are desperately seeking more time? More time for you. More time for work. More time with your kiddos. More time with your partner. More time to be creative. More time to take a bath. MORE TIME!! I just did market research for the upcoming program I will be launching in the spring and the overall consensus was that momprenuers (and moms in general) want more time. They are looking for ways to maximize their energy so they are more present with their families and tactics that encourage them to be more efficient with their time. Another big challenge mompreneurs face is knowing WHAT TO DO during those available blocks. There is a difference between being in motion and being in action. So if you’re looking for new ways to get your shit done, this podcast episode is for you. Beyond talking about HOW to get more time we talk about setting boundaries, asking for help, & managing your mental health as all these flow together. Here are some of the things you’ll learn about on today’s high: Your mindset around time Understanding where & how you spend your time What’s priority & what’s not Why setting boundaries & asking for you time are so important for mommy mental health Making a habit scorecard Creating a morning routine and why having one is so essential Multiple time management tactics Ways to maximize your energy Permission to practice self compassion and grace while building your biz My upcoming coaching program I am so excited for you to listen to this episode- they are all methods I’ve tried myself- Leave me a review on iTunes with how this EP impacted you...and while you’re listening to it- tag me!

Am I allowed to take medications while I’m pregnant or nursing? And if yes, which ones are safe? If I’m taking medication for my mental health before I get pregnant do I have to stop? Did you ask any of these types questions during your pregnancy or postpartum journey? I know I did. I wrote my OB about pretty much everything from TUMS to Tylenol. Today on the What Nik Knows Podcast, Dr. Francie Broghammer, Chief Resident in Psychiatry at UC Irvine Medical Center, walks us through managing our mental health with medication during pregnancy and postpartum. Here’s what you’ll hear on today’s EP: Female mental health is different than male mental health due to our hormone fluctuation throughout our lifetime Women are 2x more likely to experience depression than men 90% of women have the baby blues after birth If you’ve experienced anxiety/depression prior to pregnancy there is a higher than average chance that will represent itself in pregnancy & postpartum Strength alone does not allow you to heal your brain any better than healing the broken bone in your arm How SSRI medications work How taking medication can help you do the things that actually encourage self care, exercise…all the things that take you from baseline to flourishing Breastfeeding and medication And so much more! I have 5 seats left in the upcoming Strengthening Your Motherhood Mindset workshop- it is on January 27th at 4pm. Reserve your seat now!

Hi friends, welcome back to the what Nik knows podcast I’m your host dr. Nikki sammet! And happy new year!! Our first ep in 2021 is all about how to train for birth and prepare for postpartum. This is a super important episode because I believe that the more you’re prepared physically, emotionally and mentally into motherhood the better off you will be. Megan is a KEY member of our team - you’ve heard me say this before motherhood is a team sport and so having those around you to support you all throughout your motherhood journey is vital. I know for me getting prepared for postpartum was a BIG to do- so I lined myself up with as many team members that could support me as possible. Megan Welsh is one of those team members. I love how Megan goes into detail about preparing ourselves to train for this big event that’s coming and how to best empower ourselves when giving birth and then after. Megan Welsh is an experienced Labor and Delivery nurse; she has been taking care of mamas and delivering babies for over 10 years. She is certified in obstetrics, pre and postnatal fitness, breastfeeding counseling, and a Bloom Method Licensee. AH, New Years resolutions. Raise your hand if you’ve written out goals for the year only to have them fizzle out by February 21st? Come on don’t be shy now…you’re not alone. On average New Year’s goals last an average of 3 weeks. I know in the past I’ve set goals like “Im going to go to the gym every single day” and I can honestly say that might have lasted a week! SO what’s the difference between those that stick with their goals and those that don’t. Today on the What Nik Knows Podcast we are going to talk though my intentional goal planning 9 step methodology that will help you stay consistent with the goals you want to achieve. An important part of our conversation today is that goal planning pairs with building a new identity and creating habits within that new identity to reach your desired goals. Another reason why goals don’t come to fruition is that we are too focused on the result NOT what the current lessons are or the skillset we are acquiring. We have been trained to be attached to the outcome. Remember that success is NOT a benchmark it is a perspective. So today's EP is a snapshot of my my 9 step methodology to staying consistent and congruent with your New Years resolutions for 2021.

So, how do you handle the hard days mama? You know the ones that really rock you. The ones where the baby wakes up early? Or when they don’t nap the entire time you expected.Or the days they just want to be in your arms…all.day.long. How do you change your perspective? How do you stay present and in the moment? These days test us. They challenge us. They shake our patience.I know you ask yourself, “will it be like this forever” or “what else can I do?” I’ve been there. I’m still there. Everyday I work on strengthening my motherhood mindset. So here are some things that have worked for me and I really think they will work for you too: f you have a partner- communicate your needs/frustration/exhaustion! BREATHE- literally inhale, exhaleWatch a funny video on YouTube/Tiktok whatever to get you giggling. Reach out to a fellow mother- one that you trust and that will support you. Research/read books about your challenge- lately I’ve been googling “why is my kid so fussy all of a sudden and screaming all the time” once I saw some data about this age group struggling with separation anxiety I was educated rather than frustrated with Jake. Find time for YOU. I do stress the importance of a morning routine but sometimes that’s just impossible- so when baby goes down for a nap make it a priority to take care of YOU- not laundry. Create a mantra for yourself…”This is not forever, this is just right now” or “This is not a reflection of my parenting, I am a good mom”

This episode hit home as I am a postpartum depression survivor. Today’s episode with Dr. Kristen Lipari is SO important for pregnant & postpartum moms. Dr. Lipari is trained in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders from Postpartum Support International. She specializes in working with individuals and couples to address their changing roles and corresponding challenges in the perinatal period (before, during, and after pregnancy). She goes into detail about what to look for in regards to PPD and PPA and how that differs from baby blues. We talk about how to advocate for yourself in your 6 week visit and what to say to your partner when you’re feeling off. Beyond that Kristen shares a checklist that can work off of to set yourself up for postpartum in the best way possible. So many of us expect PPD/PPA to be at its most extreme when it can arrive and showcase itself on a spectrum, I love the way she breaks it all down. Some of my favorite moments of the episode are when she speaks on how to reframe and relabel negative self-talk and ways to practice realistic self-care. Make sure to listen in for all the amazing resources she provides as well. I am just so overjoyed to have her on the show and be able to provide you with her wealth of knowledge. Dr. Lipari has shared her contact information for you to reach out to her if you are looking for support. Her email is drlipari@gmail.com, 858-461-9986, and instagram @drlipari.

Heading out on a road trip? I created a podcast episode JUST FOR YOU! I shared with my Becoming Mama & Beyond Facebook community that we were heading out on a 16 day road trip and received so many requests on our learnings and what not to do haha. Biggest take away? Taking a “vacation” with your baby in tow is NOT a vacation it’s really just parenting in another city. So go with the flow, enjoy the moment, appreciate that it might be challenging but OH SO WORTH IT…Jake is still struggling with sleep 3+ weeks later but YES, worth it. Ok, go listen to my latest podcast episode where I give ya 16 tips from our 16 days on the road. Below are my 16 tips! We had two overnights where we had to room share. Our advice: put the baby in the bathroom or closet while they nap so you don’t have to eat tacos in the bathroom like we did OR buy a slumber pod! Double and triple check that you buckled your kid in their car seat especially when driving up a windy mountain omgggg (we forgot once!) Screaming child? Make music with a Puffs container! Be ok with things not going to plan...like you might have been dying to go to Zion National Park for 3 years and only get to go for for 3 minutes! Baby booties work as gloves if you forgot to bring some and don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t remember everything Your kid might wake up A LOT. Especially if you change time zones or due to high elevation. So think of your baby’s multiple wake ups as more time to spend with them. You might be so tired that one time you put lotion on your toothbrush- it does not taste the same. Just a heads up this is NOT a vacation. This is parenting in another city. But i will say on a positive note it’s seriously awesome to travel with your kid! Strollers and gondolas don’t mix Have a nap time routine! Baby snacks. Lots of snacks. Bring your own baby utensils! If you think you’ll never be a parent who puts an iPad on at a restaurant you will be. Sleep machine & covering the car seat is key to breaking 40 minute nap cycles while on the road. Try not to schedule your trip around teething, a leap, new found separation anxiety and a sleep regression #holyshit Most importantly- you’ll grow more than ever and seeing new things through your kid’s eyes is pure magic.

Did you know that starting and ending your day in productive ways can support your well being? It’s time put down the cookies, stop doomsday scrolling, & mute CNN because a new podcast EP just went live! I got the idea from my husband’s personal development workshop on how to start and end your day. In his workshop he’s teaching people how to start and end their day productively. He’s sharing tips on meditation, mindful practices, journaling, exercising, waking up earlier etc etc etc. I think these are amazing things but what about when you’re a mom and have no time for yourself? But what happens when your baby wakes up at 11, 1, 3, 5 am? What happens when you’re the sole food provider for someone else? What about if you’re the primary caregiver of someone and don’t have any help during the day? So, how do you build habits when you don’t have time for yourself? How do you wake up earlier when you’re already awake at 5am and are fueled on 2 hours? You don’t. I’m going to be very honest right now. I love what my husband is teaching AND I think it can be very hard for mom’s to follow through on. Our days are always different, our minds are tackling 50,000 different things, the mental load is different than a dad’s AND for many mom’s they are the primary care giver which allows their partners to find time for self care (unlike us!) I think we are set up to fail and feel bad about it if we don’t find consistency. Don’t get me wrong. I think his strategy works for people who do not have infants they are in charge of everyday. So today on the show we are talk about how to start and end your day MOM EDITION! It is possible to take care of yourself and do it EVERY DAY. It might not be a morning and night - it might be sprinkled into your day. And the most important thing you can do to start and end your end productively? Tell yourself that you’re an awesome mom. P.s. have you joined my Facebook group yet? We have almost 350 amazing mamas in there ready to connect and support you. I’d love to have you apart of our amazing community. The day before I interviewed Dr. Dana Sumpter, a new mother wrote in on the Becoming Mama & Beyond Facebook group about working during the pandemic and how it’s impacted her mentally, physically, and more. I couldn’t believe how timely our episode was and how impactful our conversation would be. I met Dana through another colleague who shared that she was running a research project on working mothers during covid. Being a research nut myself I couldn’t wait to hear more. I also wanted to have an opportunity to connect with another working mother in the field so I reached out to her. Dr. Dana Sumpter is an Associate Professor of Management at Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business. Formerly a Vice President of Human Resources at Citigroup, she draws from her experience as an expatriate in Asia and her research on behavior at work in teaching graduate-level cross-cultural management and diversity. She is a working mom, with two young kids, and has used the inspiration of her personal experience to drive her current research agenda, studying the experiences of working mothers during the pandemic. A few weeks before our interview - Dana interviewed me as part of their research study which should be coming out to publication soon. Today you’ll hear highlights from their findings and much much more. Some of the things you’ll learn today are: The silver lining of covid 19- whether that is changing careers, adding in passions, spending more time with family The expectations that we have on ourselves and that women tend to put higher expectations on themselves rather than men The motherhood mental load The difference between integrators vs segmentors How managers can be more compassionate and empowering during this time Having difficult conversations with your spouse about roles and responsibilities And so much more. If you are a working mother you’ll absolutely want to listen in to our episode today. Dana gives incredible tips on how to navigate covid as a working mom! This episode is gold. Are you sick of me saying that? I know I say this about all my guests. I can’t help but have awesome people on this show. Dani Sackman Carroll is a powerhouse. I literally said wow more times on this show than I could even count. Trust me, once you get into this episode you’ll see why and you’ll be saying wow yourself. I’m not going to give too much away about this episode but my biggest take away was to fail our way to success. We are taught that failure is bad so we stop exploring at a young age. We are taught that there are only two ways either passing or failing due to our academic upbringings. So we stop doing things that we are curious about and want to try on. We are too afraid to fail. Dani stresses the importance of trying things on to see how they fit both in business and in motherhood! Dani gives 3 morning tips that I think would be a great addition to your morning routine and will help you build discipline in your day - discipline is key for entrepreneurs. Get in touch with Dani!! Oh my friends this is a good one. Are you ready to be inspired and then jump off this podcast and get to work? Well get out your notebooks because this one is packed with amazing info. I actually interviewed Alexis Schulze, Co-founder and Chief Visionary officer of Nekter Juice Bar, in January with hopes to have her interview go live before Jake was born. Obviously it’s august and that didn’t happen so don’t be surprised if you hear me chat about pregnancy and mention the time of year- no i’m not crazy i’m just a solopreneur haha. Alexis and I get into the weeds of the mindset of growing a business. She shares that being vulnerable, true to yourself, and doing self work is at the utmost importance of scaling your business. She also mentions that as women we must get more comfortable with being in the CEO seat and leaning into our assertive and directness. Raise your hand if you can relate to this? I mean how often are women deemed bitchy if they have any type of emotion that isn’t related to “nice” and polite? Most women feel they need to behave a certain way, that we must make sure to not make waves or keep the masses happy. Here’s the thing tho- if you are an entrepreneur or a business owner with employees and you're living in a NICE world in order to make other people comfortable you’re not being authentic to yourself which in turn actually doesn’t help those around you grow. It’s kind of like when your significant other lies to you because they didn’t want to hurt you but in turn it only makes it worse. Learning how to communicate accurately as a business owner may be uncomfortable but it is absolutely vital to get your needs met and to be working from congruence. As you can imagine I was stoked to interview Alexis. Not only am I a huge fan of all of Nekter’s goodness (the pink flamingo smoothie w/ almond butter) is my all time fav but I also just so admire what alexis has done in her career. Alexis is still extremely involved with all the creations and recipes. She leads the award-winning company’s research and development efforts, creating menu items to nourish America’s increasing appetite for plant-based, functional, and nutrient-rich foods that support various lifestyles and diet preferences. A certified health coach with a passion for integrative nutrition, Alexis has been at the forefront of developing accessible and healthier for you fast-casual alternatives. With over 20 years of experience working with children in both preschool and elementary school settings and holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Adolescent Development, Alexis combined her education, expertise, and passion into a children’s book, Sneaky Spinach </em

Welcome back to the Leader of the Pax podcast! I’m your host, Dr. Nikki Sammet and MAN have I missed you guys! For those who are new I ended season 1 of this amazing show to go have a baby! My son Jake is now almost 6 months old and I’ve just stepped back into my office after my self imposed maternity leave. I knew I was going to change when becoming a mother but I didn’t really know how. I may have shared my worry about balancing a career and motherhood and I can honestly say that it’s HARD but absolutely do-able. Also- I couldn’t have imagined a global pandemic occurring when I left the show back in February. How are you guys doing out there? I know it’s been a lot to digest and it feels like everyday a new thing is happening. 2020 sure has been eventful. Walking into motherhood and into a pandemic has been quite the ride. I’ve had my ups and downs as I'm sure you have as well. Lately, I’ve been “unbecoming” working on unraveling parts of me that are no longer fitting with where I currently am at. I’m in the middle of a mindset reset challenge like I did last year and I’m learning SO freaking much about myself. I will absolutely do a solo episode on how you can do your own mindset reset retreat too! But, today I wanted to update you with both where this podcast is going and a little about me and what's new. First, Hi! If we’ve never met, I’m a psychologist, mindset coach for female mompreneurs and host this podcast where I provide a space for experts in their field and female business owners to share their success stories and life lessons, expertise and then take details to help my clients AND YOU!! I’ve done a ton of things that have led me to my own business and I use those experiences to help other people. In the past few years I’ve been a brand consultant, social media manager, social influencer, and done some corporate speaking about my doctoral research. I studied how social media impacts millennial women and now I’m using it to help individuals with personal branding and staying mindful and authentic in the creative process. The topics that I mostly talk about on this show are entrepreneurism, motherhood, and mindset/mental wellness. This will be continuing on this podcast and I’ll be diving even deeper into the #mamapreneur world as I believe it to be of the utmost importance to empower women to turn their passions into profit- especially in today’s climate. Yesterday, I read an article about more working mom’s having to leave the workforce because of school closures, lack of daycare, and layoffs due to COVID. I’m sure this is so upsetting for those it’s affected. Even stay at home moms are working significant overtime now with adding “teacher” on their resume. If you are interested or have ever thought about working for yourself, I’d be happy to offer guidance on turning your passion(s) into profit by leveraging social media.I’ve always known I didn’t want to depend on an em

The final countdown is on! I’m finishing my 36th week of pregnancy with a fantastic female founder interview. I couldn’t help but be inspired once I edited this bad boy. Today I also start official maternity leave. What a strange concept, especially as an entrepreneur. I will still have a few clients and be finishing up a few more episodes before the little guy arrives, but I have stopped working my consulting gigs and taking on any clients. I won’t lie. The transition feels a bit nerve-wracking, and at the same time, I know it’s time for me to begin moving to a new phase in my life. So let’s get right into this episode, shall we? I keep coming back to this quote that our guest, Beth Devine, shared on today’s episode which was “People are scared of success because they don’t feel they are worthy enough for it” that quote from my latest podcast episode has stuck with me since I heard it while editing. People are scared of success because they don’t feel they are worthy enough for it…what a statement and a pretty accurate one at that. We all have dreams, and yet we don’t always act on them because becoming who we dream of being scares us. I genuinely believe that working on yourself FIRST is a crucial part of your entrepreneurial process. Once you get your mindset straight, the rest falls into place. Our guest today, Beth Devine, even shares letting go of her old ways, made space to receive creativity, and allowed for her to be more productive and effective! She is a digital marketing and business development expert and is one of the most sought-after marketing professionals in the nation! Welcome back to the leader of the pax podcast I’m your host Dr. Nikki Sammet and can you believe we are just a day away from February? Some people say that January is the slowest month of the year but it just feels like time is FLYING. I’ve been up to my ears in baby prep and turning inward as I prepare for maternity leave. It’s been an interesting process slowing down business as an entrepreneur. I’ve kinda had to make it up as I go. I was asked the other day when I plan on returning and I realized I had all the power in my response. I’m interested in seeing when my career lightbulb turns back on once the baby is here. The last few episodes coming up are super special and are jam packed with knowledge. Like really really good stuff. For example, Today’s guest is a super star! She’s An old co-worker turned soul sister and was my inspiration in getting into the podcasting world! I feel so blessed to have someone who was in the same industry as me who saw me as a bright light rather than competition. Man, if I was to document how many times people have said to me that they couldn’t do something because someone else had already done it I would be a fricken millionaire. Jillian Beth and I discuss WHY it’s ok to do what other people doing and WHY it’s so important that you break past those limiting beliefs and share your gift. This week we have Jillian Beth a certified women’s empowerment coach who helps hundreds of individuals step into their power and craft their dream life. After working with so many clients, a pattern emerged: many women were limited in their growth in business and their personal lives. She found that the difference between women who are unsure or confused about their purpose are not feeling connected to themselves need to feel empowered to in their feminine side. When women are not in tune with their wants, needs, and desires, they have a hard time receiving and often settle for what they believe is good enough. As someone who used to feel dis-empowered, Jillian recognized this pattern well. She considers herself fortunate to be a survivor of sexual, mental, emotional, and physical abuse because she now has the opportunity to show other women that it’s possible (even probable!) to come out the other side and live the life of your dreams. Over the years, Jillian has learned that the highest form of empowerment is becoming the best version of ourselves. Now, her passion and purpose is to support women in going after the life of their dreams and living their soul’s purpose. Throughout our conversation several themes came up. #1 asking for help and recognizing the power in mentorship. #2 being curious about our professional journey rather than being frustrated with the fact we “haven’t found it yet” and #3 that even if there are other people in

Let’s be real here...checking off your entire to-do list in one day is something we all want but it rarely something that happens. But what if we looked at accomplishing tasks differently? What if we looked at crushing our to do list by acknowledging the activities that bring us JOY? You might think this episode is going to teach you how to check off your to-do’s but it’s actually going to help you re-align your priorities and remind you to find gratitude in EVERYTHING that you do throughout the day, including the activities that you poo-poo. This week I have balance queen, April Mosebrook, on the podcast. This gal does it ALL. She’s a mom, life partner, volunteer, girl scout leader, yoga teacher, lead singer/manager of her own band, a Musical Theater fanatic, works part-time in marketing, is in the middle of a remodel and still has time to work out and meditate…LITERAL ROCKSTAR. This courageous mama started her very own company called Bucket List Broadway! Which is a weekend workshop where people can practice their musical theater ability. At the end of the workshop, the participants put on a performance for friends and family! April started her passion project, Bucket List Broadway, after many years of working as a pharma rep. She had a burning desire to launch a business that combined her love of music, theater, performing, and inspiring others. April and I talked about a lot of good stuff. But one of my biggest takeaways from the episode was about how April looks at her day’s accomplishments. Like HOW DOES SHE MANAGE ALL OF THIS STUFF!? When I asked her about managing her daily to do’s, she responded with, ”you have to consider what you mean by accomplishing things, it might not be on the to list, but it might be something that popped up that brought you joy, and that can be considered an accomplishment.” WOW. When’s the last time you recognized JOYFUL tasks like taking your dog for a walk, cooking a delicious meal, having a meaningful conversation as an ACCOMPLISHMENT? We also discussed how to make your dreams happen while having a full plate. She mentions evaluating your current activity list. What are the things that bring joy? Keep them. What are the things that are taking up space and no longer serve you? Let them go. So then you can carve out time to start doing whatever you’re passionate about. Want to step on stage with April? She is offering 20% off JUST FOR YOU! Mention Leader of the Pax at checkout! The next event is on 1/25-1/26. You can get in touch with April by emailing her at bucketlistbroadway@gmail.com!

2020? That’s what I wrote in the steam of my shower door last night. I started thinking about that question mark after the final zero...What a year of transformation it will be…and what 10 years of transformation it has been. A few weeks ago my yoga teacher asked us what do you want to leave behind in this decade? Instantly my mind went to, “self-criticism, anxiety about the future, perfectionist qualities, and self doubt.” Her next question was, who do you want to be in the next decade? As I sat there eyes closed I envisioned her.. the woman I know I am in my core. The woman without fear, the one who trusts herself and is ready to take on the world. The woman entering the new decade was bold, bright, powerful, and confident. She believed in herself. I saw her doing all the thing she hoped to accomplish. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. What do I want to leave in this decade and what do I want to do in the next one? When I entered this decade I was 21 years old. I felt lost in terms of what I wanted to do with my life and was unsure of my nest step. I was wrapping up my final semester in college and had no clue what the next 10 years were gong to involve. There has been so much learning, SO MUCH LEARNING that I thought I would share with you! So here are 10 things I’ve learned from this decade. Passion rules all. Your friendship circle will get smaller and that’s an awesome thing. Expectations are everything. Hard work, consistency, discipline are how you grow a biz & into who you want to be. ( I would know I’ve tried 3 times) Perfection DOES NOT exist. Imperfection and vulnerability is where it’s at. Mindset shapes how you look at life and yourself. Your partner is key in your success and commitment to your goals. Boundaries and breaks are very important to your success Collaboration and community over competition!! Good and bad things are happening simultaneously - you deserve the life you do. Embrace it. These are lessons that have weaved throughout my 20’s but it wasn’t until my 30’s I really began to understand, embrace, and embody them. As much as we try to avoid aging with serums, creams, and botox; it truly is a blessing to age and gain more wisdom about life and insight into yourself. I’d love to know what you’ve discovered this past decade- so please leave me a word or sentence that describes that for you! To hear the whole podcast & dive into each of those 10 lessons listen in to my latest podcast episode live on iTunes now!<span class="Apple-co

One of the coolest things on the planet is growing up with your friends. I've known today's guest for an entire decade! I've known her so long I still call her by her maiden name. Erica was one of the first people that I met when I moved back to my home town of Orange county right after college. She and I have always had a bond. Whether it was over champagne, dancing all night, or having long drawn out chats about our dreams. Today we have my dear friend and BADASS entrepreneurs, event planner extraordinaire Erica Sacco! So who is this elusive broad? Erica Sacco is the Founder & Creative Director of Erica Marie Events, a full-service event planning and design firm specializing in weddings and private events throughout the world! For more than a decade, Erica has been planning and designing weddings and events throughout the country. Her passion for design, style, and all things hospitality initially led her to the event industry. Erica feels the attention to detail, and the guest experience are the keys to creating and running dream-like events. After working with some of the top companies in the world like LVMH and AEG, Erica hung up her corporate suits and launched Erica Marie Events. Erica is sought after for creating personalized, memorable events that feel intimate and effortless. Erica's work has been featured in industry-leading publications, including Martha Stewart Weddings, Wedding Chicks, Us Weekly, and many more. So here's what you're going to hear on today's show: how to find a work-life balance using time blocking, setting up systems from the very beginning, setting boundaries with spouses, friends, and clients for you to successfully hit your business goals. I also asked Erica about finding your ideal client, and I absolutely loved her answer. Erica shares to start recognizing your energy when working with different people. Ask your self, why did I enjoy working with this client…was it because they fully trusted me, because it was collaborative, what was it that just lit you up. She mentions building a good pattern of what that is to find the right client for YOU. At the end of our session, we talk a lot of systems and setting ourselves up in the beginning- documenting as we go. A big theme from Erica's episode was finding clarity around her role as CEO. She learned that she had to delegate certain aspects of the business to scale and that setting boundaries during her day to respect her working time was absolutely vital, and above all else, she just works so damn hard! It's awe-inspiring to know someone as gracious and hard-working as she is- I can't wait for you to get to know her today! So please, without further ado, let me introduce you to my long-time friend, Erica Sacco.

“Start before you’re ready,” I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve heard that sentiment from successful entrepreneurs. Jeannie North is no different. She and I had a great conversation about growing your brand and being confident about trying new things. Jeannie recently has been kicking so much ass that she was able to move into an office space from her basement AND was able to hire a team to help her scale! Go girl! Jeannie North is a dog mom of two, designer, and the owner of Ripley & Rue, a national clothing brand specializing in dog goods for obsessed dog parents. Ripley & Rue products are handcrafted with love in their shop based on Omaha, NE! I asked Jeannie about hiring and when to know you’re ready and she responded that NOW is the time…even if you think money is a limiting factor. Many clients tell me “I NEED an assistant but I can’t afford it” or “I need help with marketing but the investment is too grand.” Jeannie and I share the same philosophy when it comes to expansion…start before you’re ready. Hiring someone to help you scale your business can be impactful in two ways 1) help you generate money or 2) help you save money. Additionally, hiring team members can benefit you, especially if they have a specific skill set or background. Teams can be so effective because everyone plays a different role - which offers you as the business owner fresh ideas and more lanes to work with. Starting before you’re ready does not just apply to hiring a team of people, …it applies to ALL ASPECTS OF YOUR BUSINESS. You’re never going to feel ready, so why not start anyways? Beyond expanding her team, Jeannie talks about how social media has been impactful in her business- that she’s had the opportunity to connect with her customers and understand their retail desires. It’s important to note that although Jeannie loves feedback from her community, she stays true to herself and follows her gut instincts. If you’re looking to be inspired by a boss lady, then you gotta tune in to today’s episode as we get real about managing a work-life balance, understanding our ideal client, and how to stay engaged in your business day in and day out. Additionally, as the year is ending, I’d love to grab your feedback on the episodes so far. What do you like? What do you want to hear more of? Are there specific people you’d like to hear from or topics you’d like to break down? I have big plans for 2020…one example that I am super excited about is that I plan on sharing my findings from my research on how social media impacts us on the reg. Along with providing you tools to be more mindful while using it. So, leave me a review on iTunes, send me a message, connect with me, I really want to hear from you! Happy listening! p.s. When things are good do you believe something bad is going to follow? If you’re traveling today I have the perfect 20 minute episode to keep ya occupied. Today on the LOTP podcast we get into mental health. Specifically regarding anxiety. I share a short story that recently happened to me that almost left me in a panic attack in the cheese section of Trader Joe’s (no joke). But, instead of completely crumbing. I combatted my anxiety and kept on shopping. I’ll keep it a short caption and just tell you this…I was having the most wonderful day and whammy an incident occurred which instantly knocked the wind out of me and all my old tendencies and behaviors started to crawl (it felt more like a whoosh tbh) to the surface. I use to believe that when good things happened a bad thing would follow. But the truth is, these two things are running side by side. Life is always happening around us. Did you know that it’s actually not unusual to feel anxious following good news or when life is good. Psychologists like myself call this happiness anxiety. A lot of the time our emotions get mixed together. Think of the movie Inside Out…you know at the end when the girl is feeling both happy and sad and the glass ball has mixed colors of blue and yellow? These emotions can get tied together based on the situation presented to us. This mix bag of emotions can make it challenging for us later on… our brain may not be able to shout “HAPPY ONLY” to us while experiencing something different because we now may associate happy things with sadness, fear, or another emotion. Additionally, you may have experienced events in the past like sharing wonderful news only to have it clouded by a family tragedy the same day or getting a job promotion only for your house to flood the following morning. Life is always happening around us but sometimes we believe that when this good thing happens this bad thing will follow…and this is where I sat for awhile until I learned how to manage my anxiety and understand my emotions. Tune into day to hear the whole story. My hope is that you grab some tips on how to self-sooth, regain clarity, and take control of your anxiety.

I want to just chat about something really quickly before I share about today’s podcast. I did NOT post a podcast episode last week and I was originally disappointed with myself AND through the learning from my mindset reset I was able to rewire those thoughts. If you “skipped a week” of your goals due to life circumstances, THAT IS A-OK. Sometimes our brains trick us and tell us we should be doing more. But what I say to clients is that whatever you were pulled to do in that timeframe whether it was a babymoon (like myself) or celebrating one of your best friends weddings (also me) that you should be ALL THERE. Although it may feel like business or your passion projects aren’t “moving” when you’re not working on them constantly it doesn’t mean you are behind or that you are no longer interested. It means you are participating in something called LIFE. AND YOU SHOULD BE ALL IN WITH YOUR LIFE. The most important thing is when taking these “breaks” is that you come back with the RIGHT MINDSET and you just keep going. Ok, are you ready to hear about today’s episode because I’m ready to share with you! Each time I talk to Ashley Kalinkakus, I feel like I’m getting my MBA. THIS GIRL IS A BADASS. Ashley is the Chief Executive Officer & Founder of Torigen Pharmaceuticals, a company that is focused on personalized cancer immunotherapy for the veterinary market. Wanna know how he got started? She took her graduate thesis and turned it into a business. I took so many nuggets from Ashley - things like PIVOTING and being OK with it as it is essential for growth. We talk about how vital it is to research your market and to ask qualitative questions in order to know if you have a business. Ashley and I chatted a lot about confidence and how this young, blonde, female CEO is taking charge and in the board room & with her team at work. Ashley believes that being confident even when feeling uncomfortable is what helps us reach our goals. WE ALL are uncomfortable when offering something that means so damn much to us. We talk about that too- other people’s opinions are important but they aren’t there to deter you, they are to help you pivot and grow. Although Ashley leans heavily on her team and their input, she also makes sure to trust her process and ideas. And most importantly, when she received challenging feedback, she used it as fuel and building blocks to make the business better. The biggest takeaway? Think Ross from friends with that damn white couch in the stairways…PIVOT. And keep pivoting and trying and iterating and learning. Stay open, and enjoy the ride! OMG, you are going to LOVE this episode! Tune in NOW- Live on iTunes, link in bio! Leave me a review as I’d love to hear your feedback!

This 15 minute episode covers a personal situation that I experienced last week after missing a yoga class. I learned that acknowledging my feelings and then reframing helped me move forward. We all go through experiences and situations in life, business, and motherhood that we need to stop and reframe. We will talk about why this is so important in terms of impacting our creativity and expansion in our lives. In addition to reframing this episode covers 3 things I learned from the mindset reset challenge that I am still adopting today. Leave me a review as I'd love to hear how today's episode impacted you!

Today we chat about one of my favorite topics, COMMUNITY! It also happen's to be Theresa Piasta's as well. Theresa and I met back when Pax was right under 10k and she was knee deep (and still is) growing her company PuppyMama. I helped Theresa kick off her Instagram live series and have watched her blossom ever since. Theresa has a book coming out, Raising a Doodle, and guess what, I’m in it!! She even reads one of my quotes from the book in today's episode. In today's episode we cover a lot of ground. Theresa recently had baby and was able to share her experience of preparing for motherhood and postpartum, finding balance, and now living in her normal. Theresa and I talk about prioritizing different elements in business, letting go of certain expectations of ourselves, and most importantly creating a community. Theresa talks about the power of team both in her family unit and from outside sources while she went through pregnancy and then postpartum and how this help has encouraged a happy healthy household. We get real about not giving up on your dreams when becoming a mother and ultizling a community to help accomplish tasks. She’s a one woman show and has learned every step of the way. She’s an absolute inspiration. Before founding Puppy Mama, Theresa Piasta was a Vice President at J.P. Morgan—spending six total years in the Investment Bank and Sales & Trading businesses at two Wall Street banks. Prior to that she served as an Army Captain in a Field Artillery Brigade. During her fourteen-month Iraq deployment in 2008, Theresa led a large team to defend thousands of soldiers and contractors residing on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Delta near the Iranian border. She was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for her service. Theresa attended the Stanford GSB Ignite program in 2016 and received a B.A. in economics from Wellesley College in 2006. Theresa and her six siblings grew up in Sonoma County, California. Today she lives in San Francisco, CA, with her husband, son, and cavapoo, Waffles. Make sure to tune into the end where Theresa shares more about her first book ever, Raising a Doodle, which you can currently pre-purchase on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and puppymama.com/book. It officially is available for purchase on November 4th! Happy Listening!

Are you struggling to figure out what you want to do? Are you someone who is multi passionate and has dreams of pulling all your interests and passions together? If yes, this episode is for YOU. I learned SO much from today's guest. It was so dang good. Debbie Hendrickx, founder of Swell Gelato for Dogs, and I could have chatted forever. We talked about things like having uncomfortable conversations with potential business partners or things like looking at what you've achieved from 10,000 feet up approach rather than from ground level. One of the biggest take aways from this episode with Debbie was the tool she provided me (and now all of you!) on how to find your purpose. Debbie describes the 4 square box that helped her identify her passions and put together her company. You’ll want to listen in because this resource is so powerful. At the end of our episode she shares the value of each step in her life even though at the time she had no idea how it would be relevant to her bigger picture. So if you are in a spot right now that doesn’t feel congruent to where you want to be just know whatever and wherever you are is bringing you closer to that goal and that you are learning an important skillset for your future. I am so excited for you to hear this episode - you are in for a treat! Make sure to subscribe to the LOTP podcast!

I had the opportunity to interview one of my close friends, Shauna Parisi. Shauna is a bad ass entrepreneur who is currently working on growing her own health and wellness company. I have so many take aways from this interview it’s hard to narrow them down. From Shauna talking about how millennials are the side hustle generation, to creating a business that builds residual income rather than trading time for money, and OH my favorite quote WORKING YOUR SIDE HUSTLE IN THE NOOKS AND CRANNIES OF YOUR LIFE! Shauna is clear when she says you have to commit to your goal- it’s not easy- its a choice you have every single day. Happiness is fleeting - joy is sustaining but you have to choose it. Shauna says it best- other people are not paying your bills- so why are you still caring what people think. GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY AND DO IT. I’d love talking with Shauna about motherhood and how it will shape us in life. I loved talking with Shauna about pregnancy and motherhood. I can’t wait to see her become a mother and crush her business. She has come up with the phrase "I'll figure it out" whether that's with upcoming motherhood, business, or in life in general and is constantly bettering herself with personal development books, podcasts, and conversations! Happy Listening!

On today's episode I’m going to explain why I’m going on a 31 day mindset reset challenge. I recently realized that every time my business is in a good place it’s because my mindset is in a good place and when my business feels stalled or I feel stuck it’s because my mindset is dark and gloomy. So, I checked in and noticed that I’ve been focusing on the wrong things- money, clients, status, superficial BS, etc. So in order to flip the switch I decided to do a #mindsetresetchallenge for myself during the month of October. This is something you can do TODAY, TOMORROW, or even next fall. But, I'd love for you to join me so we can do it together! For more on the challenge and how I'm doing it tune in now!

This 3rd episode is pure magic! I loved my time with beauty industry trailblazer, Kelly Callaghan. This gal is a gem & has so much insight on how to stay true to yourself while building a business that you love. Kelly not only runs a 6-figure business she is a coach, speaker, and podcast host- such a badass! Although Kelly's businesses are about helping women look beautiful she makes it clear that the real beauty comes from the inside. Kelly and I talk about how hitting rock bottom actually spurred her creative spirit and pushed her forward. Kelly teaches the LOTP community on how to let go of fear and to start taking small steps in the direction of our dreams. I loved learning more about how Kelly has scaled her business and implements ideas. She is mindful about her business decisions and trusts her gut when trying new things. One of my biggest ah-ha moments was when Kelly talked about her money mindset. Kelly believes money is energy and if we put our energy in the things we are most passionate about our bank accounts will grow naturally! Make sure to subscribe to get the latest LOTP episodes!

Allison & Mariana shared how they work together and what is most important in their business partnership. Because these ladies are pros at the social media game we discuss how to stay authentic while growing your brand.
