The We Podcast was created to provide a space for women to speak their authentic truth, grow forward, and rise above the challenges they face. To realize and fully understand that we are not alone in our struggles is powerful and so very healing. We believe our story makes us who we are and that we each have a unique perspective and valuable gifts. It’s not until we...

Shannon Curtis has been making music for 25 years—first, as the front-woman for a Christian-lite rock band in her twenties while a pastor’s wife, then as a chanteuse divorcée composing broken-hearted love songs after leaving both her marriage and her religion. In the last decade—as a result of constant house concert touring—Shannon developed both a passionate underground following and also an album-based songwriting style, centered around taking her audiences on intentional journeys of personal growth, connection, and healing. This remains true on her new 80s-inspired synthpop album, Good to Me, the animating questions behind which are: how will empathetic people survive the troubles of this time? And how we can rescue our overburdened spirits from overlapping disasters such as rising fascism and climate collapse? Shannon offers Good to Me as both a soundtrack and rallying cry for every person who knows that healing ourselves is the first step in healing the world. In this episode we talk about Sarah's deconstructing of religious beliefs in her life. Sarah and I have very similar backgrounds with highly religious and evangelical families, and we have an open conversation discussing how that affected each of us, as well as what she’s learned since deconstruction, and helped her find her way in the world and how She’s been living and creating life on my own terms since. Sarah worked as a biologist in Rocky Mountain National Park after college, thinking she was going do that forever. But life diverted her to becoming a mother and owning a preschool in Boulder, CO. She is very grateful for all the experiences and beautiful connections made in those nine years, however she found the work to be exhausting and felt like business ownership took everything out of her. She realized what she really wants to do with her one, precious life is make art, write books, and play music. So she closed down the school, moved into the mountains and started aiming to support herself with her true passions. Now her dreams are coming true. Sarah has co-founded Voices Rising Press and this year she plans to publish her first book, record her first album and has started booking music gigs again after a very long hiatus. She is at a place in her life where she lets her heart lead the way and believes love is the answer to every question. By sharing her authentic voice Sarah hopes to help others heal and follow their own dreams as well. You're listening to episode #103 with Chalice Springfield In this episode I get to talk with Chalice Springfield. Chalice recently made a huge career change from being in the real estate world for many years to healthcare. We talk about taking that scary leap out of your comfort zone and into what you feel your heart is calling you to. As well as taking the leap, even when you don’t have all the answers. We discuss getting back to ourselves, and what Chalice coins as our “second half” of this human experience. Chalice is a light and so full of wisdom. I can’t wait for you to hear from her! Learn more about Chalice: Chalice started at Sears Real Estate when she answered an ad on an index card to work in the mailroom on the job board at the University of Northern Colorado. She was just 19 years old and seeking employment to help put her through college so she didn’t have to eat ramen and could fill her car with gas. After earning her bachelor’s degree at the University of Northern Colorado, while working full-time at Sears Real Estate, she plunged into the world of real estate where she found herself for 29 years. In 2021, she jumped out of that swimming pool into the world of health care where she is the Chief Development and Communications Officer at Sunrise Community Health. By day, she works in health care, and in her superhero time, she works as a motivation speaker, personal coach and trainer with her business, Unstoppable Curiosity. Chalice is committed to being “green and growing” not “ripe and rotten” which is why she enjoys inspiring, training, and coaching individuals and teams. She has over 15 years of expertise in the area of motivational speaking and has professional training as a personal coach. Chalice has spoken at National Conferences and in Colorado for various groups, non-profits and businesses. In her free time, Chalice enjoys unleashing her creative side by making and sending homemade greeting cards, expanding her brain by reading and traveling, and spending time with her husband of 25 years, Chris and her cats, Berto and Jack (who happens to have one eye). Unlike most people in the world, Chalice actually loves public speaking (when it can be fun). Connect with Chalice: www.unstoppablecuriosity.com Want more of The We Podcast? You’re listening to episode number 88. We Have the Power to Insight Change: Action, Contribution, and Committing to the Fight In this episode I get to talk with Janaye Matthews. After receiving the Boettcher Scholarship in 2016, Janaye chose to attend Colorado State University. She is now going into her 5th year, studying Biomedical Engineering & Electrical Engineering, with a minor in Ethnic Studies. She started to get involved with the issues surrounding students of color on campus during her second year (2017) when they started to see an increase in bias-related incidents. Most of it was informal, holding demonstrations and discussions to talk about how the incidents affected them. Since then, she’s also joined the President’s Multicultural Student Advisory Committee to take the conversation directly to administration. In Fall 2019, following a peak of bias incidents on campus, her and a few others led a demonstration, of over 400 students, to make it clear that enough was enough. They followed up after six months of no progress with an 11-page document of demands to administration for change. Outside of CSU, with the current issues we’re seeing in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death, she’s spent some time in downtown Denver, and in Aurora, protesting and speaking out about the injustices BIPOC People, experience every day, in addition to what needs to change to stop police brutality. Janaye is also working on a project with her brother, based on educating our peers/communities. Janaye is a wealth of knowledge and information and there were so many insightful moments for me throughout this entire interview. This is a fight for life or death and we have to be in it for the long run. Thank you Janaye for all you’re doing in this fight and for sharing your heart and insights with us! You’re listening to episode number 86. Round Table Talk with Emily Jorgensen: Period Poverty Welcome to another round table talk episode! In this episode, Heather Williams, Amy Norris and I talk with Emily Jorgensen. Emily believes in showing up for each other. Showing up to share the real, ordinary, and extraordinary parts of life. She thinks the three most beautiful traits a human can possess are grace, rawness and vulnerability. If people possess those traits and if they are willing to do the hard work of leaning in, feeling uncomfortable and owning their stories, they can find their true purpose. Emily started doing the hard work and she came to the realization that her purpose was to serves others, while giving grace. When people are fully granting grace to others, they are loving them without judgment and accepting them for who they are at that exact moment in time. When people do those two things, they are able to truly show up for each other. It might be hard. It might take courage, but it is the most important thing people can do for each other. Emily’s roots will always be in Michigan, but she loves being able to call Colorado home. She has been married to her hunk of a husband for four years and they have three of the most amazing children. It is within one of Emily’s own difficult moment that she gained the idea for starting the nonprofit, Grace Upon Grace Project. We talk about how that all occurred and about period poverty, which is a term I never heard until I met her. Now because of her and her willingness to be courageous and show up for the call, I am able to be a part of the mission that is helping so many women and children. You can help us end period poverty and diaper need in northern Colorado by sponsoring a woman with a month of period products or a child with a supply of diapers. Hey There! Welcome to Episode #71, Redeeming Destiny! In this this episode I get to talk with Angela Bucher. Angela lives in the Pacific Northwest and is a wife and mom of three wild and beautiful girls. She has only just discovered her love for writing in the last two years. She just released her first book called Redeeming Destiny: Dancing into unexpected truth. Destiny was her stage name and it is a memoir about her previous life that was layered with drug addiction and really broken choices. She was 27 years old by the time she finally made her way out of that lifestyle. Since then she has been on a journey of discovery about herself, life, and the Creator of all things good. Her mission in life is to raise her girls as strong, independent, non-conforming women who chase after dreams and believe in themselves and the goodness of God towards them. She also wants to release others from the shame that so often clouds our perception of who we are. She believes our biggest weaknesses are really our greatest strengths and that there is nothing, not one thing we can do to separate us from Love, her favorite word for Jesus. Faith is not about following all the rules. It’s about following the desires of your heart, your dreams, and the quiet little whisper from within. Hey there! Welcome to episode number 64! Feeling, Healing, and leaning In In this episode I get to have a conversation with Amy Norris. Amy moved from the east coast in her early twenties to attend the Institute of Art in Denver. Little did she know how much she would love the area. She has been married to her husband for almost 20 years and together they are raising two bold and courageous teenagers in Loveland, CO. She works for a warmhearted non-profit and has been teaching yoga for over 10 years. Amy recently returned to her passion of writing, which fills her soul and gives her a voice to share her story through an authentic and raw heart. Amy is a contributing writer for The We Spot Blog. She hopes to inspire and enrich your life in this incredible community of women and remind you that you are so loved, always enough and oh so worthy in every way! We have a very raw and open conversation about Amy’s early trauma of finding her father dead in her backyard from suicide. She talks about how it affected her in her early life and what she finally did to learn to feel her feelings, heal, and really lean into the areas that were scary to face. Hey Girl! Welcome to episode number 60! In Love with Love & Writing In this episode I get to chat with Amanda Kelley. Amanda grew up in a small town in Wyoming where she was an avid reader from an early age. Growing up a few doors away from the library gave her easy access to fuel her reading habit, but it wasn’t until she was married with a family of her own that she decided to give her dream of being an author a real shot. Today, she lives in Northern Colorado with her husband and two incredible sons and writes romantic fiction with a splash of suspense thrown in for good measure. With two books already published and more in the works, the sky is the limit, and she couldn’t be more thrilled. When Amanda isn’t writing, you can find her enjoying time with her family and friends, cuddling her animals, and dreaming of far off vacations. We had such a great conversation about the writing process and what it’s like to write about romance. Amanda lets us into her process and shares her writing journey with us. Welcome to episode number 49- I Owe Me. In this episode I interview Becky Lauridsen. Becky is a wife to a handsome cowboy, a mother to two beautiful girls, a career woman, and the proud founder and lead supporter of IOME . She lives in Northern Colorado with her dogs, horses, a pony named bubbles and one goat named dog! She sees a therapist on a regular basis, takes naps, showers (almost daily), washes her face every night, wears makeup, goes to church, cusses a little, takes bubble baths, goes on long walks, and binge watches Netflix when she needs to “check out”. Becky is also a licensed professional counselor. As a counselor, and also in her own personal life, it became alarmingly clear to her that women do not get enough self-care in their day-to-day lives. The majority of women are dealing with things like anxiety, depression, guilt, past trauma, low-self esteem, feelings of stress, excessive fear, poor body image, and limiting beliefs. Just to name a few. The worst part of it is, women think it is completely “normal” to feel this way. That somehow, they are naturally supposed to live like this and there is nothing they can do about it. Becky believes that you do not have to simply survive life! You can have your cake and eat it too; you can be the best mother and career women. The best wife and mother. The best friend and boss babe. You deserve the best, and your family deserves the best of you. In our conversation we dive into Becky’s own experience with postpartum depression and one day feeling like she woke up to the fact that she was just going through the motions of life. There is so much goodness in this interview and I cannot wait for you to hear it! Welcome to episode #47 of The We Podcast! This episode is all about “The Things People Don’t Talk about- Shame, Success, & Sex”. In this episode I chat with The We Spot leadership team. This is the first episode in a series we will be doing where we talk about all the things that MOST people avoid. HEADS UP!! In this episode we do cover sex. It’s a very open interview that gets a little risqué and raw so I will throw out the warning… Don’t listen with little ears, this episode is for mamas ears only. I’m not going to lie, there were a few points that seriously made me blush. So if you are uncomfortable with this kind of thing, you may want to skip it! I absolutely love this round table approach to these difficult topics. We are a group of women with different backgrounds and beliefs so it’s fun to hear all the different perspectives and get lots of belly laughs in along the way. If you haven’t met my leadership team yet, you sure will here! Welcome to episode #45 “Foundation of Love”. In this episode I interview Drue Metz. Drue is an award-winning writer, film director, and mental health advocate. He believes in the power of words, cinema, and that love can change the world. Drue grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and lived in 10 homes before 10 years old. Welcome to episode #44 “Making Space for Yourself”. In this episode I interview Kelly Quinn. Kelly is an intuitive leadership and business coach, life adventurer, peacemaker. Back in 2013 Kelly left a successful life and business in Australia to follow her calling. Since then she has been on a deep journey of introspection, one that led her to slowly discovering and removing all of the walls she had unknowingly built up inside herself to give and receive love fully. Kelly’s personal practice of learning how to give and receive love practically has transformed the way she exists, communicates and connects in life and in business. The lessons learned from living this way form the basis of her teaching today. Her coaching centers around a simple self-inquiry and self-reflection practice as she has found these to be profound tools in deepening our self-trust and conviction in bringing our personal visions to life. Today she lives proudly back at home in the UK, with her fiancé and little boy and with her mum and family just around the corner. She leads a remarkably loving life and stands for love, friendship and compassionate relationships. We had a wonderful and insightful chat and I can’t wait for you to hear all the amazing nuggets throughout the show. Kelly’s story is vulnerable and inspirational and I know you’ll benefit from her knowledge and heart! Connect with Kelly Find Kelly on Facebook and Instagram in The Bravery Community! Welcome to episode #43 “Pursuing What You Love”. In this episode I get to chat with Lenina Olivas. Lenina was born in Southern California. She received her MA in Political Science from the University of Colorado in 2010. About three years ago, Lenina started painting and made the shift from Political Science to artist. She has exhibited her work along the Colorado Front Range and her home studio is located in Loveland, Colorado. Her work has been reviewed in Professional Artists Magazine and is currently on display in the Colorado State Capitol. She has also been a featured guest on The Reset Podcast with Franklin Taggart. In 2018, she became the Gallery Director at the Lincoln Gallery. She is actively involved in her community, adopted a highway in Loveland, serves on the board of the Loveland Art Studio Tour as the Secretary, the board for Art In The Park, and is a member of The Artist Collective. Prior to becoming an artist she was a figure model and worked with a variety of artists in the surrounding states. She felt that being a model helped her to connect with artists, find the right art instructor, and understand the art world. Lenina didn’t set out to become an artist but she was called to it by the beautification and joy it brought to her life. In this episode we chat about Lenina’s shift from Political Science to artist and what happens when you decide to listen to what you really want in life. Then, what happens when you start pursuing what you love. Her work can be purchased at the Lincoln Gallery and Rabbask Design in downtown Loveland. Her wine series collection can be found at the Sweet Heart Winery in Loveland and at Blue Mountain Winery in Berthoud. On the world wide web she can be found on Redbubble, Fine Art America, YouTube, and on her website at LeninaOlivasFineArt.com . Welcome to episode #41! In this episode I get to chat with the wonderful Bethel Jiricek. Bethel was a former paralegal before discovering her true passion. Now a mother of four and trained esthetician, Betherl once struggled to find a chemical-free cream to help with her son’s eczema. She took matters into her own hands, experimenting with approximately 100 or so different recipes before she found one that soothed his regular breakouts. As a result, Bethel channeled her passion for effective, natural products into the creation of affordable, natural and organic skin care. Today, that passion is know as Green Eyed Grace Professional skin care, and its comprehensive line of pure, all-natural products are sold in Northern Colorado boutiques as well as Natural Elements Skin Spa and in the online store. Bethel is a great friend of mine and it was fun to be able to talk with her. We get to hear her early story of becoming a mom at 15 and many of the hardships faced on the way to launching her own product line and to where she is now with a wonderful family and thriving and growing business. Her perseverance in life and determination to create what was needed to help her children is truly inspirational! I loved that she said her final lotion success came somewhere around batch number 86. This is such an important message for all of us. If you’re creating something… it’s not going to be perfect the first time. Keep going, keep trying, keep moving forward. It will all be worth it and all make sense at some point and you will be so glad you didn’t give up! Bethel says it best… don’t let your current situation define you! Welcome to episode #39! In this episode I get to chat with the amazing Katy Acosta. Katy is a Colorado native married to Alex, a native Peruvian, and they have 2 children, Patrick in 3rd grade and Evy in Kindergarten. Katy has dedicated much of her adult life to serving others. Living in Peru in 2003, shortly after marrying Alex, she helped him plant a church there until returning to the States with him in 2005 to plant another church in Greeley, CO. With a heart to serve the Greeley Latino community, Katy was instrumental in building, training volunteers and running English classes for adult Latinos through Christ Community Church. Later, after receiving her Masters’ degree in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education from the University of Northern Colorado, her work with teaching English to newcomers in the community continued in the local public school district. After years of service to others and putting everyone else’s needs and desires before her own, in 2015 Katy took some time away from teaching and service to pursue her own passions and desires for life and the long-term impact she wants to leave on this world through online entrepreneurship. Out of these last three years of this pursuit, Katy has created and is building the A Mom That Matters brand, helping moms balance business, relationships and wellness. We are just so happy to have Katy here with us, taking us through her journey! From meeting her husband, not even speaking the same language when they met, how she dealt with struggles and deep losses, and her experiences in perseverance, overcoming, AND… her top tip to moms trying to juggle it all! This week on The We Podcast my guest is Dawn Miller. Dawn is the mother of 4 amazing children and has been married for 24 years. She spent 16 years joyfully homeschooling her tribe — with sweat, tears, prayer, and a lot of coffee. In 2013, a series of serious car accidents caused Dawn to have a traumatic brain injury (TBI) which ended her days of homeschooling. Armed with a new normal, she focused her energy on embracing the new Dawn 2.0. When not at home, Dawn is running in the mountains, practicing yoga, or finding more goodies on Etsy. This episode is packed with so much wisdom and wonderful nuggets of encouragement!. Dawn’s story and her perseverance and heart are truly and inspiration! This week on The We Podcast I have a very special guest! He was very apprehensive to be here. It took a lot of convincing, but he finally agreed. My guest is my hubby, Nick Monares. Nick is a dad, a husband, and a diesel mechanic who is working on expanding his horizons. He is a huge support to me and backs me in so many ways to be able to do what I do. I am very grateful for him and his support of all my shenanigans. I’m excited for you to meet him and hear a little about our relationship and who he is. He is a man of few words so this was totally outside his comfort zone. I’m super proud of him for coming on and allowing me to chat with him in this space. I love that we can feature our very different personalities in a real way and show that it’s always possible to grow together. Relationships are hard and take lots of work and I agree with nick, it’s vital to be on the same team and work together. We talk about our struggles in marriage, our story, and what he thinks about growth and what that look like together. If you would like to connect with Nick you can find him on Facebook and connect with him there. He is also on a lot of my stuff so you can follow me as well if you aren’t already. This week on The We Podcast, my guest is Kate Johnson. Originally from Delaware, Kate now calls Greeley, CO home along with her husband of 10 years and their two energetic, yet adorable young boys who are 5 and 1. She loves living in Greeley because of the people, the delicious craft brews, and the ability to travel between the mountains and eastern plains. After working in the Corporate world for 8 years, Kate became a CrossFit coach 3.5 years ago. She loves working with people to find their strengths, gain confidence, and reach their goals. As a result of her own experience with a difficult delivery as well as pelvic floor issues, Kate is passionate about working with pregnant and postpartum women to help educate, empower, and support them as they navigate this chapter of life. She is a Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coach and has worked with some of the best fitness professionals and physical therapists in the world to better educate and understand considerations for women in all stages of life. Kate started her business, TulaFit, earlier this year and offers educational workshops in conjunction with local Pelvic Floor Physical Therapists, as well as consultations, private coaching, and online programming. During the interview we may say the V- word (hint hint… vagina) a few times so if that offends you don’t listen! We chat about lots of things that mamas need to know post pregnancy. This is stuff that’s got to be normalized in conversations. Not only between women but with health care providers and anyone who is on a women’s team to success and ultimate health in every area. Our bodies are beautiful gifts and not something we should be ashamed to speak about. If that’s the case, we will never get to optimal functioning. Thank you for speaking it out loud and proud Kate! We all benefit from you taking a less than ideal situation and using it to live your passion! This episode of The We Podcast is brought to you by The We Community. This week on The We Podcast my guest is Christina Schnellmann. Let me just begin by saying that I was completely mesmerized by her story. Christina is a wife, mom of three boys, and entrepreneur. For years she felt a tug at her heart that she was made for a larger purpose, but felt unsure of what direction she should take. She takes us through a course of events that led her to today and her ability to understand what she is indeed capable of. These events include her brothers survival of being a victim of the Columbine School Shooting, all the way to December of 2016, when her mentally ill mom and brother disappeared from their homes in Colorado. It wasn’t until 6 months later, she received a life changing phone call from a stranger informing her that her brother was living homeless in the streets of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. With her older brother by her side, Christina headed to search for her brother in hopes to return him and her mom home safely to the U.S. This journey, forever marked her heart. And we are so blessed that she is sharing it with us. This is the longest episode I have ever done… and believe me you must listen to the very end! I am just blown away by Christina and her light and heart. She believes if you are given a set of experiences, especially if you can see a theme, you have an obligation to share in these experiences so others might seek comfort, empowerment, strength or an ability to grieve because of what you have shared. I couldn’t agree more! We are SO blessed she shared with us! This is her first time sharing her story publicly, and there is no doubt this won’t be her last. Just a heads up to check out the photo for the podcast which is of Christina and her brother (Mark) taken the day after they found him in the Benito Menni Clinic. So much is captured in this amazing photo! If you would like to connect with Christina you can find her on Facebook ( Christina Taylor Schnellmann ). She’s also a Greeley, Colorado native and loves building and growing meaningful relationships and community in her hometown. This is a very real and raw interview. On this episode of The We Podcast, I get to have a beautiful and raw conversation with Tanielle Childers. Tanielle is the lucky mom of two beautiful children, ages 13 and 9 and has been married to her best friend for 17 years. She works part time as a graphic artist and spends the rest of her time following her heart by creating and selling her whimsical art. Writing poetry about her personal life journey is just another space to create, using words rather than paint. This interview touches me to my core. Tanielle shares with us her experiences of great loss and the process of her grief from loosing two children to miscarriage. We both agree that this is not something that women talk about enough, and many times suffer alone. Tanielle is using her art and her poetry to not only heal herself, but to spread the light and the love of these beautiful children and uplift and encourage others who have experienced deep loss. I admire her so much and her ability to talk about the hard things and truly make beauty from ashes. Tanielle’s story is a true testimony of rising again! If you want to connect with Tanielle you can find her more recent original paintings, art prints, and notecards at the Lincoln Gallery in downtown Loveland, where she has been displaying and selling her work since 1999. (429 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland). You can follow ‘Tanielle Art’ on Facebook (www.facebook.com/tanielleart) and Instagram (@tanielleart). To see her online gallery, visit www.tanielle-childers.pixels.com. To see Tanielle’s poetry and art, visit www.tanielleart.com. And to make things really simple, just google ‘Tanielle Art’ and you’ll find all the links there. She would love to hear from you! “Creating art from my heart and soul with bright, happy colors is my way of painting the world with hope, smiles and a little splash of magic.” AND Don’t forget to check out our sponsor for this episode of The We Podcast, Eliza Quinn Creates.
