If God is really good, why is there so much suffering in the world? This is a question that haunts believers and non-believers alike. To make matters worst, many churches teach that God causes suffering in order to bring Himself glory! In this episode, we look at a converstion between Jesus and His disciples that sheds light on this subject. We also take a look at lessons learned from the life of Job. God is better than we could ever imagine. He is not the author of suffering, He is the HEALER of our sufferings. Like a Child
There's a moment in Matthew's Gospel where Jesus' disciples ask Him how to be successful and important. He set a child in front of Him and said "You must be like a child." Apparently, Heaven's definition of success is quite different than the world's. Jesus also added a sharp warning to leaders not to hinder childlike faith. Everything Is Ministry
What does it mean to be in "ministry?" Is it to be a pastor? A missionary? A preacher (or God forbid, a Podcastor?!) All of these things involve ministry, but if our definition of ministry is confined to the walls of the church, we create a divide between "sacred work" and "secular work." The problem is, this line doesn't exist in scripture. Visions are one of THE primary ways God speaks to His people. People often think the prophetic is for special people with special gifts. The first is what I call "the Titanic Gospel," that everyone is doomed, and we gotta get 'em out of here as fast as possible! The second, is what I call "Garden Christianity." That the victory of Jesus on the Cross restored creation to it's original vision and purpose, and we get to share in that. Both of these lenses provoke similar actions, but wildly different fruit in our lives. House of Haunted Scriptures: God is Not a Monster
In the most famous sermon of all time, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," Jonathan Edwards speaks of God's white hot hatred for sinners. He famously compared humans to loathsome spiders dangled over the fires of hell. This is the God that lurks in the subconscious of evangelical Christianity. But is this REALLY how Abba Father feels about humanity? It's easy to lift a story like Sodom and Gomorrah out of context and defend this twisted version of God. However, if Jesus is the ultimate revelation of God's nature, then the question is no longer "can I prove this with the Bible?" The question is "Can I prove this with Jesus?" When we look at the story of Sodom and Gomorrah through the lens of Jesus, we actually see a God of tender mercy. A God who fights for the oppressed. A God who cares deeply about human decisions. A God who's making all things new. Everything about God is Love, even His Wrath. Let's explore this together! Yet the fact that God almighty was willing to pay with His own blood to bring us back into His family speaks volumes about our true identity. The Cross reveals something wonderfully surprising about how God almighty approaches power. Rather than extracting raw obedience from His enemies with threats of violence, King Jesus conquers through His overwhelming love. Often times the cross gets a shout out during alter calls, but it's mostly sidelined for more "relevant" messages. Other places it gets loaded with so much negative theology that it ends up seeming like we need to be saved from God. For the next several weeks we will be focusing on showing off different angels of the crucifixion. There's no message more practical or life altering! Nugget 03: When God Doesn't Text You Back

The Gospel is the announcement that our old, sinful heart has been crucified with Christ. We are new creations living in union with God himself! Rather than an outside God trying to manage our destiny, we have a gracious Father that leads us from within. Sometimes it's good to skip all the frills and just share my heart with you! You'll have to forgive me for the audio this week, it didn't turn out nearly how I wanted it. I felt so good about this take that I had to keep it anyway. Thanks for your patience as I continue to learn the art/science of audio! This week I got SUPER fired up so prepare to dive into the deep end! The blood of Jesus isn't to change God's mind about us, it's to change our shame riddled minds about Him! Some have an idea that God's Holiness means he cannot be around Sin. Yet one look at Jesus Christ blows that idea away. If Sin is a sickness then Jesus is the only healer! Does our wrong doing disappoint God and push him away? Far from it, it is actually the very thing that moved Him to take on human flesh! We can tell how mature we are in the love of God by how we think when something goes wrong. Do we immediately revert back to a version of God that needs appeasement? Or can we rest safe and sound in the arms of our Daddy? If we can't, we simply need to gaze deeply into the cross of Christ and let our shame be destroyed by His love!
