#002. Loss isn't just about bereavement, we can lose people before they die. But how do you grieve the loss of someone who's still alive but is either a different person or doesn't recognise you anymore?
This is The Silent Why, a podcast on a mission to open up conversations around loss and grief and to see if hope can be found in 101 different types of loss.
Loss #2 of 101: Loss of both parents to dementia
In this episode we chat to Katie Elliott, speaker, content creator, coach and podcaster. She shared with us what it was like to face the rare situation of losing both parents to Vascular Dementia combined with Alzheimer's, before she was 41 years old. She speaks about having her first breakdown at the age of 12, grieving the loss of loved ones while they are still with you physically, the importance of still connecting with that person, and the invaluable advice of how being kind to yourself also helps those around you. She also tells us how her 'breakthrough came through a breakdown'.
Can hope be found when you've experienced both your parents not knowing who you are any more? Listen to this amazing interview to find out.
