#004. What's it like processing the loss of an arm and shoulder? Especially when it also ends a much-loved career.

This is The Silent Why, a podcast on a mission to open up conversations around loss and grief and to see if hope can be found in 101 different types of loss.

Loss #4 of 101: Loss of an arm and shoulder.

In this episode we chat to Dan Richards; amputee, cyclist, army veteran, Naked Beach host on Channel 4, model, Invictus Games competitor and "full-time goal getter".

Dan was involved in a near fatal motorbike accident in 2009, resulting not just in the amputation of his right arm and shoulder, but also the end of his long-awaited military career.

His journey towards body confidence, and on to acceptance, took him to some dark places before he reached a point of believing that losing his arm was the best thing that ever happened to him.

Dan shares his inspiring life approach of breaking things down into small achievable goals to become whoever you want to be. Plus some great cycling tips for riding with one arm!
