Gary Gerould is as good as they come. The 80-year old has been the radio voice of the Sacramento Kings since their arrival in 1985. That's 36 years of the G-Man's Golden Tones in the Capital City. And when you talk to him, the enthusiasm still remains and he has no thoughts of slowing down. And here I am with the privilege and honor to talk Kings Basketball with the radio legend. Trust me ... I soaked it ALL IN!

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard dives into the great stories of the Sacramento Kings with the G-Man"Gary was a bucket list guest for me. I love the NBA. I love the Kings. And no better person to talk about our team than the radio legend. I enjoyed every second."  Our conversation hits THREE areas:

  •  Segment ONE πŸ’₯ starts with a THANK YOU by the G-Man for the incredible journey he has been able to experience as the Voice of the Sacramento Kings. Gerould hits on his style and evolution of play-by-play, calling games during Covid, the beauty of Golden One Center, and the talent of the NBA that he has been able to witness in his journey.
  • Segment TWO πŸ’₯ focuses on the amazing eight-year run of the Sacramento Kings under the direction of Rick Adelman. We talk about it all. The players. The moments. Those epic games with Kobe, Shaq, and the Lakers. And we even discuss cowbells.
  • Segment THREE πŸ’₯ has the G-Man looking back on his start in the business. He shares some amazing stories and some key opportunities that took place in his broadcasting career. We finish the conversation with Rapid Fire πŸ’₯ and some great parting words.

Here are my favorite HIGHLIGHTS  ...
β–ͺ️1. Hands down. Segment Two. Just talking about the glory years of the Sacramento Kings with Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Jason Williams, Mike Bibby, Doug Christie, Bobby Jackson, Peja Stojakovic, and Rick Adelman πŸ‘‘πŸ’œ. One word = PRICELESS!
β–ͺ️2. Best description of the conversation was Gerould describing the current 15-year playoff drought. "We are wandering in the desert. I am thirsty πŸ’¦!"
β–ͺ️3. When I said good-bye to Gary, I had this overwhelming feeling of gratefulness that I had the honor of speaking to one of Sacramento's treasures. So good! πŸ˜‰

Our Connection |  I had the opportunity to work for the Sacramento Kings from 1995-2004. There I met Gary. I had a first-hand look at watching him work as a member of the Kings Broadcast Team. I was an aspiring play-by-play announcer and was always picking Gary's brain for advice. He was always very gracious and helpful.
