ERIC HASSELTINE is living his dream. He is one of 30 radio announcers in the NBA. That's an amazing accomplishment. On top of that, he has not missed a game since taking over the job in 2005. Yes ... he essentially is the Cal Ripken of NBA Radio Play-By-Play Announcers. Hasseltine, who went to De La Salle High School and later UC Davis is definitely known in the area. And we are cheering for his success. How he got to Memphis is an incredible story you have to hear. And that will happen in today's Talking Story!

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard and Hasseltine get reacquainted. It's been a long time. "When we both were doing play-by-play for UC Davis football in the 90's , it was pretty evident that Eric was talented. Seeing him where he is today in life is no surprise at all" Our conversation hits four areas:

SEGMENT 1 🏀 starts by going back in time to talk about Eric's days at UC Davis as the sports director at KDVS (the student-run station at UC Davis). We also dive into Eric's journey in Memphis that started with a phone call on 9/11.
SEGMENT 2 🏀 focuses on the day that Hasseltine became an NBA Play-By-Play Announcer. Let's just say, it's not like anything you would expect. A lot was going on in Eric's life leading up to this emotional moment in 2005. You will get to know the influence that Don Poier had in Eric's life as a person and a broadcaster.
SEGMENT 3 🏀 gives us insight to life in Memphis. Safe to say that when you spend 20+ years of your life in Memphis, you are officially a "Memphian." Eric also talks about balancing his life between his job and family and why he stepped away from the microphone as an afternoon sports talk host.
SEGMENT 4 🏀 finishes off with "Rapid Fire." In this case, some of the questions I was dying to ask that would complete what was a fun and informative conversation.

Our Connection | Back in the mid-90's I was the voice of UC Davis Football on Sports 1140 KHTK. Eric was the sports director for KDVS, which was the student-run station on campus. Eric took off for Memphis in 2001 to chase his dream. He caught it and then some.
