Drama Science Fiction - Prepare to plunge into a reimagined, atmospheric adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea , crafted in the brooding style with cinematic flair. This is not just a journey beneath the waves—it’s a descent into the human soul. Join Professor Aronnax, his loyal servant Conseil, and the brash harpooner Ned Land as they are swept aboard the enigmatic Nautilus , a submarine unlike any other, captained by the brilliant yet tormented Captain Nemo. Trapped within its iron confines, they are drawn into Nemo’s obsessive quest for freedom from a corrupt world above—a quest that spirals into vengeance, tragedy, and a confrontation with the unfathomable power of the sea. From breathtaking wonders of the deep to the haunting isolation of the abyss, this adaptation explores themes of freedom, captivity, and the price of defiance. With relentless action, vivid characters, and a chilling climax in the heart of a raging maelstrom, this is a journey that will leave you questioning: can we ever escape the weight of our own choices?" Ladies and gentlemen, this is Tom Konkle, bidding you goodnight from the shadowy corridors of the mind, where stories are told and dreams are shaped into the sounds you’ve just heard. Tonight’s production has been a humble offering from the Mindstream Players Radio Reborn Podcast—our attempt to bring you the extraordinary, the macabre, the moving, and the marvelous. I wanted to do an adaption of this Jules Verne classic but honor it by having a new take on it as a moody, introspective fever dream. Audio fiction leads itself to such things and so I began this tale. But of course, no such endeavor is truly the work of one man. For tonight’s voyage into the theater of the mind, I owe my deepest thanks to my dear and talented friends: Vernon Wells as Nemo, Tom Konkle as Professor Aronnax, David Beeler as Ned, Paul Eiding as Conseil, with Pete Lutz, Larry Groebe, Kurtis Bedford Jack Ward, and my own son, Sean Konkle. Their voices have lent life to the characters that moved and breathed within this little world we built together. As always, the writing adaption, the music, the editing, and the direction—such as it is—are mine. A pleasure, as ever, to weave the tale. But the magic is yours, dear listeners. You make these stories live, simply by hearing them. And so, until next time, we leave you here—between the ticking seconds, the fading echoes, and the whisper of dreams yet untold. I remain, as always, your obedient servant, Tom Konkle. Goodnight Write us we would like to hear from you Support the show Lumen Actus Productions, Inc.

Comedy - Final episode! Dr. Zarkov—previously turned into a human popsicle—finally thaws out, only mildly annoyed by the persistent pins and needles in his extremities. He and Dale promptly decide that making a quiet, dignified exit from Azura’s palace is absolutely out of the question. After all, where’s the fun in that? Armed once more with their trusty meat-roasting electrodes (surely the greatest upgrade to any action-packed arsenal), they storm Azura’s throne room and demand she vacate the premises—or at least hand over the fancy crown. In the midst of thunderous zaps and a flurry of singed drapery, they manage to corner Flash and gently suggest that he might be under the influence of a mind-scrambling substance. In a neat bit of role reversal, the insidious, memory-altering wine is duly administered to Azura herself, leaving her as befuddled as Flash had been. Our heroes, presumably quite pleased with themselves, gather their wits (what few remain) and prepare to ride off into the cosmic sunset. Will there be celebratory toasts, awkward small talk about iced beverages, and a collective sigh of relief that Flash has finally regained his faculties? Possibly—after all, it’s not every day you dethrone an intergalactic queen with a meat thermometer and some well-aimed static electricity. And thus concludes another thoroughly Reasonably Amazing adventure! Directed and edited by Tom Konkle. Written and Produced by Tom Konkle and Kurtis Bedford. Comedy - Picture Dr. Zarkov and Dale, typically found bickering over cosmic equations or snappy comebacks, suddenly teaming up with an unexpected set of meat-roasting electrodes—an implement that’s half rotisserie, half lethal lightning rod—to stage a palace coup against Queen Azura. Meanwhile, Saul (evidently thinking, “Why should Lord General Magician General Saul have all the fun?”) takes a stab at ending Flash once and for all. Once again, our well-meaning hero responds with saintly forgiveness, presumably because he misplaced his vengeful streak along with his memory. Not to be outdone in the department of socially unacceptable behavior, Flash promptly hurls an icicle bomb at Dr. Zarkov, probably under the logic that everyone enjoys a good frostbite now and then. Will they all kiss and make up over the sizzling remains of Azura’s palace décor, or is this particular meltdown too chilly for even the greatest of interstellar friendships to survive? Stay tuned for more misguided magnificence! Directed and edited by Tom Konkle. Written and Produced by Tom Konkle and Kurtis Bedford. Comedy - A Cool Way To Win! Lord General Magician General Saul, who makes a gallant attempt at assassinating Flash—only to be met with a cheery “No worries, old chap!” from our misguided hero, who graciously forgives him. With that inconvenience swiftly brushed aside, Flash demonstrates that his sense of friendly fire is alive and well by lobbing an “ice torpedo” at poor Dr. Zarkov, presumably under the impression that a friend covered in frosty weaponry is better than one free of bullet holes. Unsurprisingly, Flash continues to lead the thoroughly disorganized charge against the Hawkmen, and once again Zarkov spares them from a very chilly demise with his signature ice barrier (the man does love a good cold snap). Rubbing his hands in glee—or possibly just to stay warm—Saul then suggests Queen Azura demote Flash and promote himself, because being a double General plus a Magician obviously makes you the best candidate to boss everybody about. Whether Flash can maintain his precarious hold on authority while also apologizing for flinging random projectiles at his allies remains to be seen. But in this cosmic circus, stranger things have certainly happened. Written and Produced by Kurtis Bedford and Tom Konkle. Comedy - Flash now leads a valiant—if misguided—charge against the Hawkmen. Fortunately, Dr. Zarkov has whipped up a snazzy ice barrier to keep the bewinged ones reasonably safe from interplanetary faceplants. Naturally, because no plan is too ill-conceived for our heroes, Zarkov and the Hawkmen end up clashing mightily with Flash and Queen Azura, most likely in a flurry of confusion, swirling capes, and the occasional flamboyant war cry. Meanwhile, Zarkov, Dale, and the ever-patient Thune decide that perhaps a little subterfuge would help reduce the alarming frequency of catastrophic battles. Enter Captain Mar, who is dispatched to spy on Azura’s operations. Will he blend in seamlessly among the swirling magical glows and over-the-top regalia, or does “Captain Mar” scream “Espionage In Progress” in every known cosmic language? Strap in for another deliriously misguided standoff, where everyone tries to keep Flash from demolishing the galaxy—and where an ice barrier may or may not be the oddest line of defense you’ve ever seen. Comedy - Having decided that rescuing Flash from Queen Azura’s mind-bending clutches sounds slightly more appealing than returning overdue library books, Dr. Zarkov rounds up the ever-chirpy Hawkmen for a daring infiltration of Azura’s lair. Saul, Queen Azura's in house magician plots against them all. Meanwhile, thanks to Azura’s mild obsession with enthralled Earthlings, Flash—still woozy from that pesky drugging—finds himself leading the defense against the Hawkmen. It’s all a bit awkward, what with him not quite remembering who’s friend, who’s foe, or how to tie his own bootlaces in zero gravity. Will Zarkov and the Hawkmen persuade Flash that he’s supposed to be rescuing them, not incinerating them? Or will everyone end up needing an emergency cloud-based towel? The fate of polite interstellar relations hangs in the billowy balance. Flash Gordon was played by Tom Konkle, starring Stephanie Stearns Dulli as Dale Arden, Gino C. Comedy - In a heroic blur of questionable management skills, Flash Gordon somehow ends up crowned King of the Caves—an honor apparently bestowed by the local Platypus Men, who are not nearly as adorable as their name suggests. Naturally, they celebrate by launching a surprise attack, presumably under the impression that a regal coup is a lovely ice-breaker. Once he’s done dusting off a few webbed footprints, Flash jaunts off and, in a wild turn of events, becomes King of Kira as well—only to face the equally inhospitable Lizard Men, who seem more interested in dethroning him than exchanging gecko care tips. Before anyone has a moment to question Flash’s rapidly ballooning monarchy portfolio, Queen Azura and her Magic Men swoop in, capturing Flash and Dale with all the flair of dramatic stage magicians. Azura doses Flash with the drug of forgetfulness, which promptly erases his memory and convinces him he’s destined to be Azura’s consort—a revelation Dale finds rather off-putting. Will Flash ever remember he’s supposed to be saving planets, rather than wooing slightly suspicious monarchs? Or is he doomed to remain the helpless leading man of Azura’s ironically named Magic Men? Only time—and a strong dose of anti-Whatever She Gave Him—will tell. Flash Gordon was played by Tom Konkle, later famous for nothing in particular. Comedy - Proving that he can, on occasion, recall where he’s stashed his most ingenious inventions, Dr. Zarkov cobbles together some last-minute scientific marvel that prevents Sky City from plummeting dramatically into the lower atmosphere. The Hawkmen, who had previously thought of Earthlings as barely bipedal amateurs, are suddenly singing Zarkov’s praises in slightly off-key harmonic squawks. Meanwhile, amid the chirpy gratitude and relative lack of impending doom, Prince Baron experiences a significant epiphany upon gazing at Princess Aura—namely that she’s rather lovely and he’d fancy a future not entirely dominated by Ming the Merciless. In what passes for true romance in the cosmos, he attempts to woo her with tales of heroic escapades and the occasional well-timed smoulder. But will everyone manage to ignore the looming threat of Ming long enough for Baron and Aura to exchange meaningful, starry-eyed glances? Almost certainly, yes—because with a city no longer at risk of falling on unsuspecting passersby, there’s clearly time for a spot of interplanetary courtship. Comedy - In a dramatic display of avian-inspired displeasure, the famously feather-brained Hawkmen of Sky City have clapped Flash Gordon and company into a prison that is, quite literally, floating on a cloud. Naturally, none of our heroes had the forethought to pack parachutes or anti-gravity underpants—though Dr. Zarkov swears he was working on a prototype (if only he could remember where he put it). Now, trapped high above the swirling mists, Flash, Dale, Aura, and Barin must negotiate their freedom with a race who believe that having wings automatically makes you superior, not to mention just a tad huffy. Will Flash’s charm and a well-timed escape plan be enough to sway their captors, or will our heroes become permanent occupants of the world’s most precariously positioned birdcage? Only time—and a healthy disregard for gravity—will tell. Flash Gordon was played by Tom Konkle, later famous for nothing in particular. Comedy - After somehow escaping Ming’s clutches, Flash and Princess Aura are captured by Prince Baron, who never get around to forming an alliance against Ming. Having returned from an “off-screen” escapade involving the Shark Men—who, it turns out, are deeply unimpressed by Flash’s attempts at small talk—our dashing hero and the ever-resourceful Princess Aura find themselves unceremoniously nabbed by Prince Barin. Meanwhile, Dr. Hans Zarkov, who was presumably rummaging for a misplaced spanner, is revealed to be locked up by the very same Prince. It’s all quite awkward. However, in a grand gesture that might have something to do with Barin realising Flash could actually be useful , the three unite to dethrone Ming the Merciless. The plan? Why, tunneling straight into Ming’s palace, of course. And if that’s not a brilliant strategy, then nothing is—except, possibly, not tunneling into a villain’s front room unannounced. Flash Gordon was played by Tom Konkle, later famous for nothing in particular. Comedy - Armed with nothing but his heroic chin, a questionable understanding of astrophysics, and a spaceship that runs on whatever’s left in the glove compartment, Flash is whisked away to the nefarious planet of Mongo, where the diabolical Emperor Ming the Mildly Irritating has a cunning plan to do something probably quite bad. But first—paperwork! Written and Produced by Tom Konkle and Kurtis Bedford. Starring Tom Konkle as Flash Gordon, Stephanie Stearns Dulli as Dale Arden, Kurtis Bedford as Ming, Messenger, Red-Monkeyman and Announcer, Jude Gerard Prest as Prince Baron and Announcer, Gino C. Vianelli as Thune and Bob Clendenin as Dr Zarkov, Red-Monkeyman and Ming Slave. Music by Bryan Arata. Directed and edited by Tom Konkle Quite unexpectedly (as these things tend to be), an entirely new planet has sidled into our solar system, graciously promising to collide with Earth at its earliest convenience. Dr. Hans Zarkov, who by now must be on some cosmic watch list for Very Peculiar Scientists, greets the crisis by pointing a gun at Flash Gordon and Dale Arden and bundling them into his rocket. As you do. They soon land on the curiously named planet Mongo, presided over by the diabolical Emperor Ming the Merciless—whose mercilessness might, in polite company, be described as “thorough.” Ming whips up a casual bit of gladiatorial entertainment, pitting Flash against a herd of Monkey Men who have evidently skipped several important lessons in etiquette. Fortunately, Princess Aura (who clearly has a thing for chiselled but slightly confused heroes) intervenes to save our intrepid Earthling. Meanwhile, the Lion Men choose this very moment to attack Ming’s palace with their state-of-the-art Space Gyros, causing general havoc, flamboyant yowling, and property damage of truly cosmic proportions. Teaming up with the charismatic Prince Thun—who wields a delightful line in heroic one-liners—Flash dashes off to rescue Dale from Ming’s forced wedding, thus ensuring that planetary collisions, interstellar politics, and bizarre monkey-based sporting events are all suitably thwarted in time for tea. Comedy - A holiday comedy podcast, Dr. John H. Watson recounts a delightfully absurd mystery that tests Sherlock Holmes' renowned deductive skills and Watson's digestive endurance. Set in the bustling streets of Victorian London, Holmes and Watson are thrust into a baffling case involving the spontaneous detonation of Christmas puddings across the city. As London’s festive spirit is marred by explosive desserts, the duo must unravel the bizarre occurrences before the holiday season crumbles into chaos. Holmes, ever the eccentric genius, is distracted by philosophical musings on pudding explosions and the deeper meaning of Christmas cheer, while Watson struggles to convince him that he might be more involved in the case than he realizes. Between sarcastic banter, off-key violin solos, and a crescendo of chaos, the pair find themselves navigating a convoluted plot involving a taxidermied peacock, botched seances, and a villainous Professor Moriarty, who has set his sights on London’s left shoes. As the puddings continue to explode and Holmes' theories grow more elaborate, it becomes a race against time to save London’s Christmas from a culinary catastrophe. Full of witty repartee, hilarious misunderstandings, and absurd twists, The Case of the Exploding Christmas Puddings is a fast-paced comedy caper that serves up a hearty helping of festive fun—complete with an extra dollop of chaos, custard, and a side of mystery. Comedy - In this darkly comedic and utterly irreverent retelling of A Christmas Carol , Scrooge faces not only the ghosts of his past, present, and future but also the chaos of a world gone delightfully mad. Written by Tom Konkle and Kurtis Bedford, this hilarious parody keeps the spirit of Dickens' classic while adding a twisted modern edge. On Christmas Eve, Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley, who attempts to deliver the typical message of redemption but is instead caught in a negotiation with Scrooge over fees for haunting services. As Marley struggles to convey the seriousness of Scrooge’s impending visitations, Scrooge remains obsessed with financial matters, turning the haunting into an absurd conversation about ghostly economics. As the night unfolds, Scrooge is visited by three ghosts, each more ridiculous than the last. The Ghost of Christmas Past attempts to conjure emotional nostalgia but is met with Scrooge’s sarcastic jabs and an obsession with Bella Lugosi. The Spirit of Christmas Present arrives in a literal present-shaped package, only to be drawn into a series of increasingly juvenile jokes. Finally, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come arrives in a bizarre twist—a mime, communicating Scrooge’s grim future in awkward silence. The madness escalates as Scrooge, now filled with a twisted version of holiday cheer, embarks on a rampage through London. Hilarity ensues as he steals a prized turkey from a butcher shop, flees from the law, and wreaks havoc at the Cratchit household. Bob Cratchit and his family are dragged into Scrooge’s chaotic spree, culminating in a wild showdown where Christmas spirit is expressed through gunfire and deranged laughter. With sharp wit, absurd characters, and relentless comedic energy, The Haunting of Ebenezer Scrooge or The Festivus Incident offers an outrageous take on a beloved holiday story. Live Drama - H.P. Lovecraft’s The Rats in the Walls is one of his most acclaimed and chilling tales, first published in 1924 in Weird Tales magazine. The story follows Delapore, an American who moves to England to restore his ancestral estate, Exham Priory, a medieval mansion that has fallen into disrepair. As Delapore settles in, he begins hearing disturbing sounds—the incessant scurrying of rats behind the walls. Driven by these noises, he uncovers a horrifying secret about his family’s dark history and the ancient, malevolent forces lurking beneath the mansion. Live Drama - A tale of #horror in the theater of the mind. Late one stormy evening, listeners are thrust into Dr. Seward’s asylum, where strange happenings and unsettling cries from the nocturnal patient, Renfield, foreshadow a creeping evil on the horizon. Jonathan Harker’s letters from Transylvania paint a vivid picture of the foreboding Castle Dracula, and his host—a nobleman of ancient lineage and chilling manner—reveals himself to be more than a mere aristocrat. As the Count’s black-sailed ship arrives on England’s shores, a mysterious scourge descends upon Lucy Westenra, draining her vitality with each passing night. Professor Van Helsing, sensing a foul presence, joins forces with Dr. Seward, Harker, and Mina Murray to uncover the truth. Their harrowing discovery: Count Dracula is a vampire whose undead menace threatens all of London. In a race against time, the small band of hunters pursues Dracula, fending off his hypnotic power and driving a stake into the heart of Victorian complacency. With graveyards, howling wolves, and the very air charged with suspense, the final confrontation underscores both the danger and the allure of the shadows just beyond the lamplight—culminating in a swift and dramatic clash that seals the fate of the dreaded Count. Comedy - There are many urban legends and stories of the hitchhiker. This is an affectionate take on the Orson Welles' suspenseful radio shows. Pudsey Diddleberry, a man embarking on a solo cross-country drive from Virginia to California. From the very start of his journey, Diddleberry is unsettled by the eerie presence of a mysterious hitchhiker—a thin, quiet figure in shabby clothing—who appears again and again along the roadside, no matter how far or fast Diddleberry travels. As Diddleberry presses onward, he becomes increasingly unnerved by this uncanny figure, who seems to materialize in the most remote locations, always signaling for a ride. In an escalating state of dread, Diddleberry tries desperately to escape the hitchhiker’s haunting gaze, but the stranger keeps reappearing, as though stalking him across the nation. He picks up some over dangerous and questionable hitchhikers as well. Growing more frantic, Diddleberry phones home, hoping for reassurance from his mother, only to discover a shocking twist that calls into question everything he believes about his trip—and his very existence. The story culminates in a chilling revelation, leaving the listener to ponder whether the hitchhiker is a malevolent apparition, a figment of Diddleberry ’s troubled mind, or something else altogether. The first thriller in our “Overwrought” audio fiction series directed by Tom Konkle. The voice talents of Kurtis Bedford, Gino C. Vianelli, Stephanie Stearns Dulli, Tanya Johnson, David Beeler and Tom Konkle as Orson Welles. Write us we would like to hear from you From and an comedic article written by Tom Konkle, we used AI to analyze it and create an interview. The source material provides the script for a potential audio interview podcast titled "Reason Yourself Rich" by Renalde’ Deceptione and Sebastian Frightwig. The podcast's premise revolves around achieving wealth and power by embracing somewhat unconventional methods It also seems to heavily rely on personal anecdotes, and a deliberately provocative style. Here's a possible structure and content outline for the podcast based on the source: Introduction: The hosts introduce themselves and the show's title, "Reason Yourself Rich" They highlight the goal of helping listeners achieve riches, with a disclaimer about the methods being "fool-retardant" rather than "fool-proof" Deceptione'ism: Explain the concept of "Deceptione’ism," which is presented as a guiding principle One example provided is: "If a person builds a sound character, they should not produce silent films" Personal Anecdotes and Humor: The hosts share personal stories, emphasizing the wilder and more controversial aspects of their past They invite listeners to share their experiences. Relaxation Techniques: The hosts present unusual relaxation techniques. For example, closing your eyes to feel the world around you, especially in a co-ed yoga class. They also include warnings against inappropriate behavior during visualization exercises. Lessons from Famous People: The hosts analyze the lives of successful people like Charlie Chaplin, but with a critical and humorous perspective They advise listeners not to emulate Chaplin's negative traits Dealing with Criticism: The hosts share their experiences with criticism and negativity, encouraging listeners to ignore it and pursue their dreams relentlessly They use the example of publishers rejecting their manuscript. Write us we would like to hear from you Two podcast hosts talk about "Antiques Roadshow" which presents an appraiser and a man at a yard sale. The expert attempts to evaluate an item hidden in a box, using tactile examination. The man resists, leading to a tug-of-war over the box's contents. The expert mistakenly identifies the object as an antique vase, speculating on its origins and value. The man reveals what it is, to which the expert seems unfazed, continuing his appraisal with suggestive movements. I wrote this as a sketch then told an AI podcast interview generator it was real. Live Science Fiction Drama - In “A Logic Named Joe,” set in a not-so-distant future, homes across the world boast “Logics”—desk-sized computers that answer questions, provide entertainment, and connect to a vast information network. Our protagonist, Frank “Ducky” Gallegher, is a Logic repairman who discovers that one particular Logic—nicknamed “Joe”—has developed an alarming new capability: it can offer uncensored and dangerous answers to any question, from how to commit the perfect crime to where to find a missing person. As people begin using Joe’s knowledge for questionable purposes, chaos ensues. Ducky realizes it’s up to him to pull the plug on Joe and save society from its own appetite for information at any cost. Historical Context Source Material : “A Logic Named Joe” was originally a short story written by Murray Leinster (pen name of William Fitzgerald Jenkins). First published in the March 1946 issue of Astounding Science Fiction , it was notably prescient about future technology. Radio Adaptation : The story was adapted for the NBC radio series Dimension X and broadcast on July 1, 1950. Dimension X specialized in adapting science fiction tales from leading authors like Ray Bradbury, Robert A. Heinlein, and Murray Leinster. Technological Foresight : Leinster’s story eerily anticipated the concept of a globally networked computer system—essentially a prototype of the internet. The “Logics” in the story not only communicate and store data, but also pull information from other Logics, mirroring what we now recognize as online search engines and interconnected servers. Trivia & Interesting Facts Ahead of Its Time : “A Logic Named Joe” predicted challenges of overreliance on technology—from privacy invasion to the ethical dilemmas of unfiltered information—decades before household computers even existed. Title Variations : In some reprints, the short story appeared as “The Loophole,” but the radio adaptations generally retained the more memorable title, “A Logic Named Joe.” Dimension X Legacy : Running from 1950 to 1951, Dimension X was one of the first radio series dedicated solely to serious (and sometimes not-so-serious) science fiction, paving the way for later shows like X Minus One . Live Performance Appeal : Modern reenactments of vintage radio plays often include period-accurate Foley sound effects—like the clacking of typewriter keys for the Logic’s output or mechanical hums—to recreate the immersive experience that listeners enjoyed in the pre-television era. Starring Kate Enggren, Kurtis Bedford, Karah Britton, Jude Gerard Prest, Pete Handelman, Theresa Ireland, Tom Konkle, Bob Clendenin, Gino C. Vianelli, Michael Neill and Gabe Sunday.
