Ireland vs Scotland. Many times I find that my travel clients want to try to do both countries. But when I tell them they need to make a choice because they really don't have enough time, they don't know which one to choose. Ireland is awesome. Scotland is amazing. Ireland vs Scotland? Which one would I choose? I don't pick one over the other. What I do in this episode is lay out the similarities and differences between Ireland and Scotland. This way you can make the decision of which one is right for you. And if you're like me and it's both? Well, then I guess you are just going to need more holiday time! Kenmare is one of the my favorite towns in Ireland. In fact, it may be my absolute favorite. Located in County Kerry, Kenmare is colorful, vibrant and in a central location for exploring this piece of Ireland. It has great pubs — some of which have tasty food, a nice array of accommodation and incredibly friendly locals. Add in the ability to explore Killarney National Park, the Ring of Kerry, the Beara Peninsula and even some parts of County Cork and you have the perfect Irish town. Want to chat about Kenmare? Rolling green hills dotted with vineyards. Delicious food and world class wine. Gorgeous churches with incredible art and architecture. Plus Umbria is a bit more mountainous so the scenery can be a bit more dramatic. So if you're looking for a destination in Italy that is a bit different yet feels familiar, put Umbria on your list! Wander Your Way Adventures are here! https://wanderyourwayadventures.com/tours/marvels-tastes-of-the-dolomites-italy/ The first small group tour happens June 16-28, 2024. And we're going to Alto Adige (South Tyrol) Italy! Wine, food, hiking, Novacella Abbey and the stunning Dolomite peaks. Hope to meet you there! Do you have a travel bucket list? Maybe you have a specific Europe travel bucket list? I always have a list. In fact, in February of 2023 I put out an episode about this very topic. But things change. So I think it's a good idea to revisit your Europe travel bucket list each year. Maybe you actually were able to cross some places off your list. Perhaps you've added some new destinations (of course you did!). Maybe you've shuffled some spots around as certain places have become more of a priority. Now I get it that some people don't like the idea of a "bucket list". So maybe a better term is a "wish list". Whatever you call it, I truly believe in dreaming big when it comes to travel. You can make your travel dreams come true (and I can help)! So what's on your Europe travel bucket list? Send me a message at Lynne@WanderYourWay.com and let me know! Northwest Scotland is wild, rugged and remote. And absolutely stunning! It's one of my favorite places in all of Scotland. This is where you to go see the incredible beauty of mountains, lochs, moors and glens. It's in Northwest Scotland that you see deer, eagles, dolphins and whales. And it's where you go to slow down and let yourself be. Oh, and if you're into geology, you'll love it. Yes, it takes more time and effort to get here. But it is worth it! County Mayo is one of the best destinations in Ireland. And it sees far less visitors than some of the other counties — which I think make it even better (fewer crowds!) County Mayo has some charming villages with awesome pubs. It has a national park — Wild Nephin & Ballycroy National Park — and a Dark Sky Park. There are hills and peaks along with some peaty bogland. The coastline is amazing with sandy beaches and sea cliffs. And County Mayo has some incredible historical sites — from castles to the all important Céide Fields. I love this county! And I think you will too. So tune in to find out about all the amazing things to do in this Irish county. Want to chat more about County Mayo? Known as the "romantic lake" Lago d'Iseo Italy is a beauty and worthy of that title. While others may flock to Lago di Garda or Lago di Como, Lago d'Iseo sees fewer visitors. It's smaller. More intimate. And gorgeous! There are charming lakeside towns and villages to explore as well as lots to do in the great outdoors. Lago d'Iseo also has something the other lakes don't — a beautiful island in the middle of it. Yup. This is a destination in northern Italy you'll want to put on your list. Lake Bled might get all press when it comes to lakes in Slovenia. But I think Lake Bohinj is the most beautiful lake in this little country. Bohinj is surrounded by the Julian Alps and much quieter and more natural than Bled. It's kind of like comparing an amusement park to a national park. And I'll take the national park — Lake Bohinj — over the amusement park — Lake Bled. In fact, Lake Bohinj is located in Triglav National Park, Slovenia's one and only national park. What about you? What is slow travel? And what does it really mean to travel slowly? Let's start with this scenario: You probably have a relative or friend who has traveled to a country in Europe. As he or she recounts the trip — that was all of 10 days on the ground — they list off about 25 places they visited. It was a whirlwind and your head spins at all that this person saw and did. But did they really see it? Did they really do anything? And, more importantly, what did they truly experience ? Slow travel is the opposite of this. It’s spending more than one night in any given town or city. It’s getting to know the destination, the history, the culture and the people of that place. Slow travel is more about experiences and connection . And it’s not about spending an hour or so at some site or landmark, checking it off your list then moving onto the next site. In this short episode, I'll bust a couple of myths about slow travel and offer up some tips and advantages to traveling slowly. Need more help in planning a trip to Europe? Then check out the website at wanderyourway.com or send me an email at lynne@wanderyourway.com. Ask an Irish person about West Cork and they'll look at you with a dreamy look in their eyes. West Cork has that affect on you. This part of County Cork, Ireland is truly special. Small harbor towns such as Baltimore and Schull dot the jagged coastline. Sandy beaches like Inchy Doney and Barleycove pop up here and there. Places like Mizen Head and Sheep's Head — 2 of the southwest peninsulas — provide stunning sea views. Inland cows dot the green hills. And stone circles remind us of the ancient people who once inhabited this area. And did I mention that West Cork has some of the best food in Ireland? If you only make it to Cork City or the popular harbor town of Kinsale then you are missing out on all that West Cork has to offer. Breath taking. Stunning. Gorgeous. Charming. Beautiful. There are so many words I could use to describe the little village of Castelrotto and Alpe di Siusi, the high altitude meadow that sits above the town. It's one of my absolute favorite places on the planet. The village of Castelrotto makes the perfect base to explore the Alpe di Siusi and the magnificent Dolomite peaks that surround it. How would you like to see an incredible Spanish Basilica, hike along gorgeous mountain trails, eat some delicious tapas and drink some tasty Spanish wine — all without the crowds? Then look no further than the region of Aragon in Spain. My good friend, Meg Zirger, has been living in this region for 10 years and she loves it! She is going to give us some good tips on where to go, what to see and what to experience in this northeastern part of Spain that has so many hidden treasures to explore. From the regional capital of Zaragoza with its jaw dropping Basilica and vibrant tapas bar scene to the Pyrenees mountains of Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park to the Mudejar architecture and beautiful villages of the Teruel province, the Aragon region has something for everyone. And this region does not see the number of visitors as other hot spots in Spain such as Barcelona, Madrid, San Sebastian or the Costa del Sol. So you get to a more authentic and true Spanish experience and that chance to connect with the locals who, Meg claims, are some of the nicest Spanish people in all of Spain.
