Kermode on Film supports the British Film Designers Guild Awards – and shines a spotlight on the BFDG Planet Positive Award sponsored by Sky Studios Elstree. In this episode Mark Kermode talks to the winner of that award, Freya Bruce, co-founder of ReCollective, about their work on 'My Lady Jayne'. ReCollective are a non-for-profit, setting new standards of re-use for the film industry to tackle the enormous amount of waste it produces. ReCollective's work on 'My Lady Jane' involved repurposing building materials which were then used for community builds in the South West of England including making poly tunnels for a market garden and a field shelter for a community farm. At the top of the show the CEO of the BFI Ben Roberts leaped onto the stage to congratulate everyone involved on being the longest running and most successful strand at the BFI, ever. First up Mark welcomes Samantha Morton on stage to talk about her work as an actress, director, writer and musician. Sam talks about her directorial feature The Unloved , as well as her role in She Said , and the changes needed in the film industry. Next, Alan Jones joins Mark to talk about his new book Discomania , a glorious celebration of Disco, Punk, and Alan’s unique, trail-blazing career in the Horror, Science Fiction and Fantasy film arenas. GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S PINOCCHIO released at the end of 2022 is based on Carlo Collodi's novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio, about the wooden puppet who comes to life as the son of his carver, Geppetto. Set in Fascist Italy, the characters are voiced by Gregory Mann as Pinocchio and David Bradley as Geppetto, alongside Ewan McGregor, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, Christopher Waltz and Tilda Swinton.
