We are a monthly Mother-Daughter True Crime Podcast. Each month we will focus on a case that cries out to us. What brings an individual to the precipice of darkness? Can we make sense of societies darkest edges? Sometimes we share generationally opposing views or push our own minds to that edge, but we do this to bring souls into remembrance all while bringing a social issue to light... This is What Cries Out.

Send us a text Sometimes, the most terrifying crimes are the ones that seem to happen without reason — crimes where the victims and perpetrators have no connection, no shared history, and no clear motive. It’s the randomness that chills us to the core: the idea that danger can strike anyone, anywhere, at any time. These are the stories that unsettle us the most because they shatter our sense of security. We like to believe that if we stay out of trouble, trouble will stay away from us — but what happens when that belief is proven false? When violence arrives, uninvited and unexplained, it leaves a community shaken and a nation questioning just how safe we really are. This is Episode 52, Blood On Snow: The Wichita Massacre. Send us a text We’re once again delving into a case that has haunted the small town of Delphi, Indiana—the horrific murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German, known as The Delphi Murders. When we first covered this case in 2021 (actually, our very first episode), it was a chilling mystery with very little known. Now, with new revelations, the story has only grown more complex. A case filled with shocking twists, unanswered questions, and lingering doubts—this investigation has never been straightforward. After years of searching for justice, a man was finally arrested, tried, and convicted. But did they convict the right man? Or was Richard Allen merely a convenient scapegoat for something far more sinister? This is Episode 51: The Delphi Murders Revisited. Send us a text Falling in love is one of life’s most exciting experiences, a promise of devotion and sacred vows. Two individuals brought together with youthful passion, blossoming into comfort and stability, the hope that they will grow old together. In her youth, Elizabeth Broderick was the apple of Daniel’s eye and together, they planned to build a life filled with love, dreams, and shared moments. But over time, the foundation of their love began to crack. Betty, no longer the object of Daniel’s affection, felt herself fade into the background. What was once adoration turned to neglect, and Betty’s insecurity grew into a suffocating bitterness. The woman she had once been seemed lost, overshadowed by the fear of being forgotten. In the anguish of feeling discarded, Betty’s pain spiraled into rage into one final, desperate act—a shot to the heart—and the murder of two lives. Send us a text "The moment is here. It's time to teach him. The world doesn’t have room for weakness, and it's my responsibility to make sure he understands that. I lift him up and place him on the counter, his small frame steady, curious. He’s my son, and it’s my job to shape him into a man—the man who will carry my name, my legacy. He looks up at me, eyes wide with trust. He doesn’t question. He doesn’t doubt. I tell him to stand. But he hesitates. That hesitation—it’s a crack in his foundation. A sign of weakness. So I push him further. "Stand up, Lyle. Trust me. I’ll catch you." He listens. He always listens. He doesn’t cry. He’s quiet, obedient, focused. His eyes still locked on mine as I hold my hands out in front of him. He takes a deep breath, his small chest rising and falling, before he leaps off the counter, his face full of faith in me, in what I’ve promised. But I step back. I let him fall. The sound of his body hitting the floor is jarring, and for a moment, there’s nothing. No words. Just silence. Lyle looks up at me, stunned, hurt—his trust shattered. I know this moment will stay with him, a mark on his soul. It’s not just a lesson; it’s a blow that will echo through his life. I kneel down, my voice cold as I look him in the eyes. "That’s why you can’t trust everybody." And just like that, the lesson is set in motion." The Power of Persuasion. Send us a text This is the story of the collision between two extremes. On one side, a man using free speech as his weapon and speaking truth as he saw it. On the other, a group fueled by a toxic ideology, so consumed by their hatred that they sought to silence him forever. This is a story that reveals the dangers of free expression in a society where words have the power to inspire, but also to inflame. As we unravel this story, we are forced to confront the darker truths of human nature: the dangers of clashing ideologies so polarized that dialogue becomes impossible, and the high cost paid when the freedom to speak is met with violence. Alan Berg, a talk radio host was a lightning rod for controversy. His words did more than provoke debates. Send us a text This case centers around a young man who was a good student and an athlete. Known as a good-hearted individual, perhaps a bit quirky, he had never found himself in trouble. Yet, the act he would commit would send shockwaves through his community and the world, an act of unimaginable horror. This once promising student suddenly found himself at the center of a gruesome crime that left two people dead and another injured. The most chilling detail? He was discovered attempting to consume the face of one of his victims. What could drive someone from such a promising path to the depths of such brutality? Was it the shadow of mental illness, lurking unseen until it erupted in violence? Could his history of drug use have played a role, warping his mind and actions? A love triangle that ends in the murder of one woman and motivations of those involved raising numerous questions of who did it. I had a dream!’ How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds?” The passage from Jeremiah chapter 23 serves as backdrop to a modern tragedy. This is a story of two people whose self-love and delusions, culminated in an unspeakable horror. Send us a text For a cult to form, it takes a balance; a symmetry of circumstances and encounters for cults to find their footing, drawing both followers and leaders into their circle. For the followers, it's like standing alone on the edge of a cliff, feeling the weight of loneliness until a welcoming hand reaches out, promising unity and acceptance. The allure lies in never facing solitude again, even if it means abandoning reason and logic...jumping into something mysterious. As for the leaders, it's the pursuit of power, wealth, or maybe the deep impulse to destroy. Nihilism is the belief that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated. A true nihilist would believe in nothing, have no loyalists and no purpose other than perhaps, destruction... It was Friedrich Nietzsche who argued that nihilism and its corrosive effects would eventually destroy all moral, religious and metaphysical convictions and precipitate the greatest crisis in human history. Is that time now? We are going to review 5 types of the most well-known cults in human history. Decades and times apart, and at the end, we will discuss possibly one of the most frightening modern-day cults, one that has yet to reach true destruction... Send us a text *Trigger warning. Parts of this case will be extremely disturbing* Researching cases of child homicide is extremely challenging. In the world of true crime podcasting, these cases can be difficult to listen to, and we understand that some listeners may prefer not to. However, we advocate for the most vulnerable victims - children who had no choice or voice. Their stories cry out to us. One such story is that of Harmony Montgomery. Despite a rough start in life, Harmony blossomed into a bright, loving, and curious child. Tragically, she was brutally murdered by a violent criminal and unstable sociopath - her father, Adam Montgomery. Send us a text Marriage is a sacred bond. It requires trust, mutual respect, teamwork and intimacy.... just to name a few. It’s never perfect and it can be hard at times. The story we are going to tell is about a couple who portrayed the image of the “perfect marriage”. They seemed to “have it all”. They were the “it” couple. However, behind closed doors they had a secret, one in which they didn’t want anyone to know. Despite this outward image of perfection, simmering seeds of resentment were growing. Send us a text There is a Latin expression, "Res Ipsa Loquitur" meaning ('the thing speaks for itself', or literally 'the thing itself speaks') and I can't help but see this being exactly what What Cries Out stands for. This expression is common in law where the facts make it self-evident that negligence or other responsibility lies within a party, therefore it is not necessary to provide extraneous details, since it is so painfully obvious. This is vital for us to understand when it comes to the context of this case.... A case that has so many layers of evil. The evil and darkness of one of the most prolific modern serial killers you will hear about... but that is just one angle. Send us a text It was the very early morning hours of April 1st, 1990, a semi-truck was parked alongside Interstate 10 in Casa Grande, AZ, with the hazard lights on. An Arizona state trooper noticed the rig, and something about it caught his attention. Did the driver need help? He cautiously approached the driver’s side....no one was there. He thought he heard a noise.... coming from the sleeper cab, so the officer stepped on the runner and shone his flashlight in. To his horror, he saw a naked, bound and severely beaten woman chained to the wall of the truck. The woman began screaming. Suddenly, the flashlight also caught a man’s face that appeared from the darkness, and the man calmly told him, “It’s all right, Officer. Everything is fine”. What the officer did not know on that early morning, was that he arrested one of the most brutal and sadistic serial killers in the United States, named Robert Benjamin Rhoades....also known as The Truck Stop Killer. The ensuing investigation would take years, about as long as Rhoades was killing. Welcome to Episode 32--The Unforgotten Victims of Robert Benjamin Rhoades. Send us a text "You're guilty until proven innocent. Perception is reality, that's the way that it is in this world...." For this case we are taking you off the beaten path and getting a little, raccoon-like? I don't know if it is because everywhere I read this case, it's ONE side. One perception being highlighted and the other one is almost completely ignored... and you know how we like "possibilities". This is going to be hard, but I want our listeners to open their ears and try to be as unbiased as possible. After all, it is better to risk saving a guilty person than to condemn an innocent one... Today's case we are going to review the crime and charges made against a man named James Toliver Craig...You may or may not recognize his name. Send us a text *Trigger* This episode discusses cannibalism. “Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster. And if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you”. When researching a true-crime podcast, we often think of this quote by philosopher Frederich Nietzsche. We do our best to not gaze for too long, but only glance. What cried out to us about this case…or any case we cover? It’s not just about the crime, but how it impacts us as a society. The case we are going to discuss is about two people from different backgrounds on a proverbial collision course, and it forever changed the lives of those who witnessed it. The victim, his family and the passengers were not given a choice…. They were forced to gaze into the abyss and to deal with its aftermath. Send us a text There is a quote I came across with researching this episode, by the literary scholar, A.C. Bradley: “The calamities and catastrophe follow inevitably from the deeds of men and the main source of these deeds is character”. The characters in this case are Mark & Jennair Gerardot, who appeared to have a happy marriage…. until Mark met and fell in love with Meredith Chapman. What we see unfold is a modern day Shakesperean tragedy... or an impending train wreck in the making. Sounds like your typical love triangle, but it is far from it. I can’t help but think that everyone was a villain, yet everyone was also the victim. Whatever the case, it is a cautionary tale of passion, betrayal and revenge. But it is also a case of heartache, regret, accountability for our choices and ultimately, forgiveness. Welcome to Episode 19, The Murder of Meredith Chapman. We pray for guidance and clear paths set for us so that hearing "no" can give us comfort in a decision made... However, speaking "no" also has consequences. Send us a text TRIGGER: This episode discusses child abuse and murder. There is a strong need for these kids to have a “forever home”. It takes a special type of person to be adoptive and foster parents. They are “godsends”. The good ones, that is. Our case today is not obviously about the good ones, but is about people who did not love, protect, or provide a safe place for a child that so needed it. It is also a case about a department that is overwhelmed, negligent and failed to do their job in making sure that this child was placed in a safe and loving environment. Send us a text There is no stronger bond than that of a parent and a child. As parents, we want our children to do well; to become independent, successful and well-rounded human beings. But, sometimes, our children do not become what we envisioned or what we hoped for. We have heard stories when a parent discovered their child was responsible for a heinous, even unforgiveable crime and yet stood by them, supported them, even if the victim was another family member. They are left heartbroken, angry and disappointed yet somehow, find it in them to forgive. That is the love of a parent for their child. But that is not the case in this episode. Send us a text *Trigger Warning* The Death Of A Child We hear the heartbreaking stories of children who suffer from diseases, cancers, and other chronic illnesses and the idea of feeling so helpless and if we could, we would take on their disease and their pain. Olivia Gant was that child in pain, and it took her life at only seven short years. Olivia went through numerous surgeries, hospitalizations and endless treatments. Despite all that, she was a very spirited young girl and would scream and fight and say, “I don’t want another owie”! But Olivia should not have another ‘owie’ because she did not have a disease, nor did she have a chronic illness. Rather, her condition was brought on at the hands of her mother and a medical community who failed to report their suspicions. Send us a text It's time we take our attention to an epidemic that is one of the longest epidemics in history. Effecting all ages, backgrounds and cultures... and it's in our own communities. We are tackling another non-murder series with this episode: The Opioid Epidemic where we will discuss the role of Big Pharma, the history and the radical ideas to overcoming this problem. It starts with a recent case... It was a Sunday afternoon, February 20th, 2022, and a call came into 911 from a distraught woman. When police arrived at the North Range Crossing apartment complex in Commerce City, Colorado. They walked into what one officer said was a “nightmare of a scene”. Five people were found dead inside an apartment unit, 3 women and 2 men. A 4-month-old baby was found alive along with an adult female. There were no signs of violence to signify that this was a homicide, nor did there appear to be an environmental hazard such as a gas leak. But as the investigators looked closer inside the apartment, they knew the perpetrator... What happened to the 5 deceased people, happened fast and sudden. So fast that no one had time to call 911. Evidence appeared that they inhaled cocaine laced with Fentanyl.... Send us a text Have you ever gone into a building or a high-rise and wonder if it is structurally safe? We go into office buildings, stores and even our homes and we don’t think about it. But why should we? We have rules, codes and regulations in place to ensure our safety, and we expect those to implemented with the utmost care. That’s not what happened in this case we’re going to cover. Innocent people were going about their lives, but little did they know that they were to be caught in a hellish nightmare, with no escape as 42,000 thousand tons of concrete, twisted steel and debris collapsed upon them. This was not a natural disaster, nor was it an act of terrorism. This is a case about greed and corruption. It’s about a man and city officials who valued money and profit over human lives. But it’s also the opposite, it’s about human strength, survival and a country coming together to demand changes. It would be known as the worst peace- time disaster in South Korea’s history. ---HELP UKRAINIAN REFUGESS--- Projects | WorldVenture Sources: The Sampoong Department Store Collapse – Great Disasters Seconds from Disaster Superstore Collapse - British version - YouTube Sampoong Department Store collapse - Wikipedia Don't Forget to visit our Instagram- What Cries Out Give us a 5 star rating on Apple and Spotify! Send us a text An adultery, a provocation, a sudden passion ... There are many different reasons why people commit homicide... greed, lust and jealousy are a few primary motivators. But what if you felt you were provoked to kill? Not out of self-defense but what is called “sudden passion”. We are covering a case of a seemingly loving successful power couple who had it all but whose marriage spiraled down into lust, betrayal, lies and in a final act of humiliation, it boils over into murder... Send us a text Serial killers, mass murderers, family annihilators. Why are some of us fascinated with them? We ask ourselves, what kind of person does it take to commit some of these horrendous crimes and why? We also refer to them as ‘evil’. But what is evil, and can we define it? We’ll look at some real-life and fictional evildoers and how they are portrayed in news, movies and literature. Finally, we will discuss possible reasons for our fascination with serial killers and what it may say about us. We most likely will not come up with any definitive answers, but if anything, to have an honest and interesting discussion on the topic and have some fun with it. Send us a text On Monday, February 14, 2000, 9-year-old Asha Degree ran away from her home sometime in the early morning hours on a cold, dark rainy night. Later, witnesses would report seeing her walking along the highway, only to be never seen again. Why would a seemingly happy, young girl run away in the middle of the night? Eventually, clues would lead investigators to Asha being abducted in the very early hours of that morning. It was like lightening striking twice.
