In this episode of Private Parts of Wellness, Jessica Badonsky introduces the Six Sense series, focusing on how our senses, particularly sight, are influenced by aging, hormones, and identity. She discusses the complexities of sight, the role of hormones in visual perception, and the intimate connection between vision and sexuality. The episode also addresses the effects of aging on vision and emphasizes the importance of grounding through sight to manage anxiety and enhance well-being. Takeaways Sight is not just about the eyes; it's about the brain. Hormones significantly influence how we perceive light and images. Estrogen affects light processing, impacting sensitivity and migraines. Visual perception is shaped by memories, fears, and desires. Orgasm can enhance visual perception and create vivid experiences. Aging affects vision, but perception can still be sharp. Nutrition plays a role in maintaining eye health as we age. Grounding techniques can help manage anxiety and bring awareness to the present. In this conversation, Jessica Badonsky explores the intricate relationship between menopause, childhood trauma, and overall health. She discusses how adverse childhood experiences (ACE) can significantly impact women's experiences during menopause, leading to heightened symptoms and challenges. The discussion emphasizes the importance of understanding one's ACE score and its implications for health, as well as the need for trauma-informed care. Jessica also touches on the complexities of sexuality in midlife, challenging the narrative that midlife women are universally experiencing a sexual renaissance. The conversation concludes with practical steps for managing menopause and supporting one's nervous system. Takeaways Menopause is a series of distractions that can be overwhelming. Understanding ACE scores can provide insight into health risks. Childhood trauma can significantly affect menopause experiences. Women with higher ACE scores report more severe menopause symptoms. The nervous system plays a crucial role in managing stress and health. Caring for oneself is an act of self-preservation and resistance. Menopause is not just a hormonal issue; it's about overall well-being. Sexuality in midlife is complex and varies greatly among women. Support for the nervous system can improve menopause symptoms. Late one night when I saw too many IG posts, to much news and had had it I asked ChatGpt to write a story for me. The prompt was: Predict a global good outcome, one that could happen. Right now it seems that America is falling into fascism and evil, regression into times of violence. Please write a story of prediction where equity for all people and the earth itself is preserved and humans exist and while flawed have an understanding that we are all cousins, part of the human race. Universe is conspiring for good and world leaders are replaced with thoughtful kind leaders that we look up to.

The discussion also touches on the impact of technology and media on young people's understanding of sexuality, and the importance of repair and empathy in parenting. **How I Became a “Sex Nurse”** When my son was in 2nd grade, he described my work as that of a “sex nurse.” Before that, he amusingly referred to it as “sex work.” I've been talking to people about sex and sexuality for a very long time. In fact, a friend reminded me that I started discussing menopause in 7th grade, and my favorite childhood book was “Where Did I Come From.” This episode offers a brief look at how I started, where I’ve been, and what I hope to continue doing, including this podcast. I mention the “People’s Book of Human Sexuality,” which you can find at any bookseller or through this link . Additionally, here's an old blog post about being a sex nurse. There’s a whole ass blog on my website . Finally, if you are going through the menopause transition and want to work with me, check out the MenoCircle —a personalized approach with community care and six months of 1:1 support.

Why talk about herpes in a show about aging? Because it’s so common! You DEFINITELY know someone with a cold sore, if that someone isn't you. According to the WHO “ An estimated 3.7 billion people under age 50 (67%) globally have herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infection, the main cause of oral herpes.” Then, what does this mean for those of us already in our 50s and beyond, those understanding their Agelust through expanding their experience, maybe divorce, or dating? The question is how can we even reframe herpes as a gift, one not offered or asked for, but rather one that helps to bring one closer to one's body, to their nervous system. With this ' gift ', Courtney Brame has taken it and turned it into a positive impact on the world. Courtney W. Brame is a sexual and mental health advocate for people struggling with their positive herpes status. Diagnosed with the virus himself in 2013, he stumbled through the stigma from all sides, including communication with health care providers, potential sexual partners, family, friends, and most importantly — his relationship with himself. This was brought to light in 2017 when Courtney began researching herpes groups, only to find others struggling with their diagnosis to the point of expressing suicide ideation. This led to the weekly interviews on his podcast, Something Positive for Positive People , which is now a 501c3 nonprofit organization that offers donation-based mentorship, and community , along with free support resources for people navigating all aspects of herpes stigma. Do you know the 5 stages of grief? Chances are that if you are going through menopause you are also experiencing the stages of grief; denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Calm down, not everyone feels grief but a lot of us do. Just like other transitions, rites of passage, they are best navigated with a guide, whether an Auntie, a community, or a doula. Grace Veras Sealy is one of those guides. Grace is a Women's Holistic Health Coach (IIN), Perinatal Consultant, Doula, and Educator. She is a Menopause Health Guide at Elektra Health, a digital health company that provides evidence-based virtual care, education, and peer support for women navigating the 10-year menopause transition and beyond. Grace helps people figure out how to take the pressure off in the best ways for you. Topics include: ** Stigma Around Menopause :** - Discussion about menopause in certain cultures, like the Dominican Republic, is taboo due to societal stigma around aging and women's health. - Openly discussing menopause and age is considered uncommon and often met with surprise or discomfort. ** Misinformation and Varying Perceptions :** - Within families, experiences with menopause differ; some members don't remember much about their menopausal phase, while others deny being in perimenopause despite experiencing classic symptoms. - Limited reliance on hormone panels is noted, as they provide only a current hormonal snapshot and may not accurately reflect past or future menopausal changes. ** Debunking Misconceptions :** - Grace aims to educate individuals that various symptoms experienced, like sleep disturbances, mood swings, weight changes, and hair loss, could be interconnected and indicative of menopause, regardless of age or current hormonal status. - Encourages a shift in perception about menopause, advocating for open discussion and education to dispel misconceptions and promote better understanding. Solutions for Menopause: - **Menopause Doula:** Grace highlights the role of a menopause doula, offering holistic, non-medical support through personalized guidance, supplement recommendations, lifestyle adjustments, and emotional support during the menopausal transition. - **Electra Health Services:** Electra Health provides a membership-based platform offering learning modules, continuous information updates, community interaction, and guidance from menopause guides. The service includes consultations with clinicians (currently out-of-pocket cost, aiming for insurance coverage in the future). ** Cultural Stigma and Menopause :** - **Dominican Perspective:** Grace, being Dominican, acknowledges the cultural stigma surrounding menopause specifically in DR. She emphasizes the importance of addressing this stigma within Latin American and Spanish-s

Just a little intro: What is Agelust about?
Tue, November 07, 2023
Apologies for the plosive Ps, in. the beginning intros. One day I will have a sound person/editor for these episodes, today is not that day. If you know someone please send them my way. In this episode of the "Agelust" podcast, two generations of Jessicas engage in an insightful conversation with the founder and primary herbalist of Sexpot Apothecary , Jessica Godfrey. The episode delves into Jessica Godfrey's journey in herbal medicine, starting from her childhood experiences of crafting teas, salves, and tinctures with her German herbalist grandmother. They explore the importance of preserving this traditional art and how it's often overlooked in modern times. Jessica Godfrey's dedication to herbal medicine led her to formal education and informal apprenticeships with clinicians, naturopaths, and traditional healers across the globe, from Ayurvedic healers in Nepal to traditional healers in West Africa. Her diverse training forms the foundation of her work in herbal medicine. In 2021, Jessica founded Sexpot Apothecary, a unique venture exclusively focused on herbs for holistic sexual wellness. The discussion touches upon various aspects, including fertility, hormone balance, libido, and arousal, showcasing the multifaceted approach to intimate health. A key highlight is the emphasis on education, as herbs offer potent support in this realm, yet many individuals remain unaware of where to begin their journey into herbal remedies. This engaging conversation between the two Jessicas provides valuable insights into the world of herbal medicine, its potential to bridge the gap between pharmaceuticals and herbs, and the importance of embracing age without limitations or shame. In 2021 I started the Mistresses of the Menopausal Mind, a Mistress Mind all about the menopause transitions. We would come together 2x a month, once meeting to shoot the shit and the other to learn about how to support ourselves through this transition in ways we may not have thought of. In total, there were 11 expert sessions ranging from Human Design and transition, psychedelics, hormones, scarcity, beauty, and of course sex. One of these sessions was on Low-Pressure Fitness. The pelvic floor can be a part of our bodies often overlooked until it gives us issues. We settle with sneezing and peeing, discomfort with sex, or even full-out prolapse. LPF is an amazing modality that strengthens with relaxation and expansion. Stacy Graham, RN, LPF-CT has been teaching and studying for close to a decade. She is kind and knowledgeable. Stacy has been my teacher for a bit over a year now. Check out her site https://www.coreessencetraining.com/. Mistresses are no longer .... for now, but I plan to release more videos from the sessions as we head into the fall.

This short and sweet off-the-cuff, from-the-hip episode is all about feet and estrogen, and the pelvic floor. So really a little about a lot. Special guest my husband who chimes in on the benefits of Low Pressure Fitness . Me, practicing LPF on IG “Squatting isn't good for your pelvic floor.” Correction squatting is excellent for the pelvic floor except when you are peeing. The pee is trying to drop it like it’s hot, and you are trying to keep it all together while you hover over the bowl, that's what's not good for your pelvic floor. Low-pressure fitness example . At 45 years old or older, there is no need for hormone testing according to NAMS, menopause treatment is based on symptoms alone. This is because hormones in the perimenopausal stage are bat shit, high one day and low the next. However, if you are a numbers person and love data by all means do you boo, just know that testing is a snapshot in time. I just realized that Buck was 50 when the film was released, 20 years into his body. His comfort with his expression of self, his manhood was an example for me of what it means to be embodied. As far as how he impacted my career, well he talked about the importance of getting all body parts checked, caring for all parts and for him, because he has a pussy, this meant going to the gynecologist. Buck has since stopped making films and is now focused on pleasure products for all bodies, as well as the power of cannabis. Most recently he has been outspoken about inclusion in the trans community, his concerns that trans kids are moving too quickly into medical transition. I am blessed to have an example of what it means to age with strength, grace, and evolution. Pat Bowie, otherwise known as Mom, has been singing and acting professionally since the mid-1960s. She recorded 2 records with Prestige Records "Out Of Sight!" and "Feelin Good!" Featuring Charles Mcpherson, Kenny Burrell, Tommy Flanagan, and Ray Bryant. She has won several awards and was the first Black Mrs. Cratchit in a professional production of A Christmas Carol at the Goodman Theater in Chicago. She was asked to test to be the first Black centerfold for Playboy but didn't do it. Most recently she played Eunice in "And Just Like That" and she's back for the second season. Check out this article from Vogue , yes Vogue. During our conversation, we talked about aging, sex, vibrators, menopause, and of course her professional career as well. Also, you'll hear the thoughts of my eldest daughter as she shifts from adolescence to emerging adulthood. There's also a lot of talk about my father, George Badonsky , who was a powerhouse in his own right. A man who loved my mother to the very end, and my mother called him her one true love. Thank you, especially, to my husband, who believes that people's stories hold great power. RC, without you, I can't say for sure whether I would have recorded this. I hope you take time to talk to the elders in your family, even those that you struggle with and learn who they are. A word about this episode, I am a one-person show and learning how to navigate this format, needless to say, it probably would have benefited from a producer. You can help by following, liking, sharing and rating AGELUST on Apple Podcast, and Spotify, and then maybe we can dig a hole large enough for me to get a producer. Keep coming back because we have more guests!!!! Remember to "choose wisely", or at least as wisely as you can at this moment. You can always make another choice.

Agelust is a space to look forward with the understanding that we made through all of our past, and know that there is a lot more lustful life to come. Today's episode is on menopause, the term, the event not all of the sensations associated. You may be surprised to learn that menopause is one day -Climacteric is where it’s at. -We talk about it as this long process when it’s really a single event. -How Saturn's return is linked to menopause -All people (he, her , them) go through a PAUSE -Re-framing is a great way to start.
