Penn State wins Fiesta Bowl 31-14 over Boise State to advance to College Football Playoff Semifinals
Audrey & Jon share their thoughts on Penn State’s win against Boise State in the 2024 Fiesta Bowl by the score of 31-14. The Nittany Lions jumped out with the early lead on stellar play from the offense led by Drew Allar, Tyler Warren and Omari Evans touchdowns. The defense stifled Ashton Jeanty and Amin Vanover, Dvon J-Thomas, Zakee Wheatley and Dani Dennis-Sutton all stepped up in the absence of Abdul Carter who was out due to injury. Late it was Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton who took over behind a stout offensive line. Penn State Dominates SMU 38-10 to advance to the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals
It was a day for the defense as Dominic DeLuca had two interceptions, including a pick six, and Tony Rojas had one that went for another pick six as the Nittany Lions stifled the SMU offense to earn a place in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. Abdul Carter threw in numerous pressures and a sack as well as Dani Dennis-Sutton who helped terrorize Kevin Jennings in a huge win for James Franklin. Penn State’s offense struggled early but took over on the ground as Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen both averaged nearly seven yards per carry. Drew Allar could not find his receivers but made plays with his legs to help the cause as the Nittany Lions had a comfortable lead at the half. Penn State Comes Back to Beat Bowling Green 34-27
The Nittany Lions gave up nearly 400 yards of offense to Bowling Green and trailed at the break but found a way to pull off the second half come back and improve to 2-0. James Franklin's team looked like they were sleep walking through the first half defensively letting transfer quarterback Connor Bazelak chew them up for nearly 200 yards. Drew Allar and the offense got the team within in a score at the half led by Tyler Warren's career day and Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen both went over 100 yards in the victory. Questions remain though, is this an indication of greater problems for Penn State or just a weak follow up to a big win on opening weekend. Penn State Controls West Virginia 34-12 | Postgame Reaction
Despite a lengthy halftime weather delay, the Nittany Lion spirits could not be dampened in the opener on Saturday as they controlled both sides of the ball to cruise to a 34-12 victory over West Virginia in Morgantown. Tre Wallace had a day with two touchdowns while Drew Allar looked like a different QB under Andy Kotelnicki as he threw for 216 yards and 3 TDs. The Nittany Lions ended the regular season with their most complete performance of the 2023 season by blanking the Spartans 42-0. The explosive plays finally emerged as Penn State had six in the game including a 60-yard bomb from Drew Allar to Omari Evans to set up a touchdown. Penn State slogs out a win against Rutgers, 27-6
Following another deflating loss to a top 5 opponent the question was whether or not James Franklin’s team would have a let down against Rutgers to close out the Beaver Stadium schedule, it was a win but hardly an impressive one as the Nittany Lions won 27-6. In their first game without Mike Yurcich, the Lions offense continued to struggle as they went into the half only up 10-6 and had to once again rely on the defense to carry the team.
