Was Gwen Stefani always secretly lame, or did she has lameness thrust upon her? In the latest episode of the pop show reliving the 40 biggest selling songs from this time in 2005, we ask this very important question. We're also answering these very important pop music conundrums - why did Beverley Knight try to do a Jamelia, and why did it fail? Which member of G4 is to blame for one of the most pathetic break-ups of all time? Why did Green Day do something unspeakable on a Belfast bowling green? And most importantly of all: What would it take for the British record buying public to give Jem's song They the respect it deserves? Alongside these crucial answers, we're talking about the following iconic bits of 2000s pop: Akon - Locked Up Basement Jaxx - Oh My Gosh Beck - E-Pro Beverley Knight - Keep This Fire Burning The Black Velvets - 3345 The Bravery - An Honest Mistake Britney Spears - Do Somethin’ Cabin Crew - Star to Fall Elvis Presley - Good Luck Charm Elvis Presley - She’s Not You Eminem - Like Toy Soldiers G4 - Bohemian Rhapsody The Game feat. 50 Cent - How We Do Girls Aloud - Wake Me Up The Glitterati - You Got Nothing on Me Green Day - Holiday Gwen Stefani ft Eve - Rich Girl Howard Brown - You’re the First the Last My Everything Jay-Z and Linkin Park - Numb/Encore Jem - They Jennifer Lopez - Get Right John Legend - Used to Love U Joss Stone - Spoiled Kaiser Chiefs - Oh My God LL Cool J feat. 7 Aurelius - Hush The Mars Volta - The Widow McFly - All About You/You’ve Got a Friend Nelly feat. Another year of classic 2000s pop music begins on the podcast where every week we are reliving the 40 biggest selling singles of this week 40 years ago. It's 2005, and things are about to change in a big way as the download charts get added to the main chart. Before that happens, however, we are in for some very weird, but very fascinating, top 40s. It's Christmas time, and there's no need to be afraid...unless you're terrified of all-star charity singles, that is. The lyrics to Band Aid 20's Do They Know It's Christmas may "banish shade", but that does not mean that this week's episode of The 2000s Chart Show isn't going to be as shady as ever about the chaotic debut of Pete Doherty's Babyshambles, the vicious rumours that Rachel Stevens gatecrashed the Band Aid recording, and the problems that Joss Stone and Snoop Dogg were facing in 2004. Join host Samuel Spencer for this week's episode of The 2000s Chart Show, the pop music podcast where each week we revisit the 40 biggest selling songs of 20 years ago. This week, that means we're talking about the following songs: Alter Ego - Rocker Babyshambles - Killamangiro Band Aid 20 - Do They Know It's Christmas Blue - Curtain Falls Brian McFadden - Irish Son Britney Spears - My Prerogative Bryan Adams - Flying Christina Aguilera feat. Every two years, the safe home for the gays that are the music charts and bombarded by the straights as a barrage of football songs come out to celebrate the World Cup and/or Euros. This week on The 2000s Chart Show, it's the Euros 2004, and the straights were celebrating with a "footie" spin on Come on Eileen, a slightly dog whistle-sounding single featuring The Libertines and Supergrass and a song about World War One. The breeders having a normal one, as always. If you think the "beautiful game" is lame, however, we have plenty to discuss this week in our latest run down of the pop music of 2004. In this episode, we're exploring even more of the fallout of Janet Jackson's Super Bowl malfunction, making love under the linden tree with O-Zone and learn how Lauryn Hill rejected Kanye West. This week's episode features discussion about the following songs: The 411 - On My Knees 4-4-2 - Come on England Anastacia - Left Outside Alone Avril Lavigne - Don’t Tell Me Beastie Boys - Ch-Check It Out Beyonce - Naughty Girl Candee Jay - If I Were You Cassidy - Hotel Christina Milian - Dip It Low The Corrs - Summer Sunshine D12 - My Band Eamon - F*** It (I Don't Want You Back) Emma Bunton - Crickets Sing for Anamaria Evanescence - Everybody’s Fool Faithless - Mass Destruction The Farm feat. WE'RE BACK! DID YOU MISS US? On holiday last week, I decided I couldn't bear to take time away from relaxing to talk about a crappy selection of pop songs...and this week's not much better. Luckily, Ronan Keating decided to make the week worth it by doing one of the most absurd pieces of promotional tie-in I have ever seen. (Maybe he should have taken his own advice when he said that you say it best when they say nothing at all...) Elsewhere of the podcast where every week we're celebrating the music of the 00s one top 40 at a time: Why are rappers so obsessed with the Holiday Inn? This time 20 years ago, two of the biggest pop stars of all time teamed up. Nope, it's not Javine and Ronan Keating (though they're both of this week's chart too) but Britney Spears and Madonna. WE ARE NOT A TRUE CRIME PODCAST, but there is truly a lot of crime talk this week on the 2000s pop music podcast taking you through the top 40 singles chart from 20 years ago. In summer 2003, Dizzee Rascal got stabbed in Ayia Napa, just months before winning the Mercury Prize – and Lisa Maffia allegedly was involved (she denies involvement). At the same time, Pete Doherty was arrested for breaking into his own bandmate's house as revenge for him being dropped from The Libertines. If that wasn't bad enough, Girls Aloud committed the ultimate crime: Releasing a single not quite as banging as their last two releases. All this and more is discussed on the latest episode of your favourite 00s nostalgia podcast, as well as brand new (at least, brand new two decades ago) songs from Good Charlotte, Lemar and Radiohead. Full list of songs featured on this week's edition of The 2000s Chart Show: Benny Benassi presents The Biz - Satisfaction Beyoncé - Crazy in Love Billy Crawford - Trackin' Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Stop Blu Cantrell feat. This week we have an episode with everything. If by everything you mean sad stories about the Cheeky Girls, a countdown of the top 10 highest-selling monophonic ringtones and a hilarious story about when I accidentally snogged someone to the tune of Jessie J's 'Price Tag'. "Ok, whatever," I hear you cry to no one in particular, "but what actually is the show about." Well it's a chart show revisiting the UK top 40 singles chart from this time 20 years ago. Except unlike the actual chart show, this show has honest opinions about each pop song on the chart. And also a slight crush on Daniel Bedingfield, but that's a story for another day. Basically, it's 2000s nostalgia and sassy pop music talk. Get into it, and get into the songs we're talking about this week: 50 Cent - 21 Questions All-American Rejects - Swing Swing Benny Benassi presents The Biz - Satisfaction Beyoncé - Crazy in Love Blu Cantrell feat. Another week, another UK top 40 singles chart from 20 years ago...except it's not, because this week we're joined by Richard Parks from Fame Academy (sort of), coming straight from 2003 to share his views on 2000s pop music classics. On this week's dive into '00s nostalgia, join Samuel Spencer as he: tells you everything you need to know about Triple Eight (which, it turns out, is a lot); reveals what Javine has said about THAT cheating scandal; does a terrible impression of Kelly from the Stereophonics, and tries to work out once and for all what Daniel Bedingfield's deal is. With so many big 2000s artists releasing singles last week (Madonna, Eminem, Pink etc) what is left this week? Answer: THE ABSOLUTE DREGS. With less classic 2003 anthems to discuss this week, however, we're getting a little loose. When the best the UK top 40 music charts can give you is Benny Benassi, The Coral and D-Side, it's time to mix things up a bit. That means that this week alongside the usual pop music facts, classic 00s singles and Smash hits recaps we have: An interview with a famous dog. A run through of some pretty sexy power tools. Richard Parks from Fame Academy absolutely decimating a boy band. Plus, we're discussing the following singles: 50 Cent - 21 Questions 50 Cent - In Da Club Amy Studt - Misfit Appleton - Everything Eventually Ashanti - Rock Wit U (Awww Baby) Benny Benassi presents The Biz - Satisfaction Beyoncé - Crazy in Love Blazin' Squad - We Just Be Dreamin' Busta Rhymes and Mariah Carey - I Know What You Want Christina Aguilera - Fighter The Coral - Pass It On Dannii Minogue - Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling Delta Goodrem - Lost Without You DJ Sammy - Sunlight D-Side - Invisible Eminem - Business Evanescence - Bring Me to Life Fast Food Rockers - Fast Food Song Intenso Project feat. THE TIME HAS COME: After some slow weeks on the 2000s pop music front, Beyoncé is finally here! Does Crazy in Love have what it takes to make it to the top of this week's 00s chart? Or will 50 Cent, S Club Juniors, Mis-Teeq or Lisa Marie Presley stand in the way and take the number one slot? There's only one way to find out, and that's to take a hilarious and nostalgic trip into 2000s pop music through its UK top 40 singles charts. I may have put my back out, but the celebration of 2000s pop music must continue. This week's episode is all about break-ups. From the many stories that have circulated about why the Sugababes have broken up to the savage war of words between Evanescence, July 20003 is a big week for bitchy pop stars. Everything is about to change in 00s pop culture next week when Beyoncé releases Crazy in Love. But until then we're stuck with a UK top 40 singles chart that includes Blazin' Squad, flop girlband Tommi and Jay-Z's terrible Panjabi MC remix. On the plus side, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are FINALLY bringing some good indie music to the charts - even if the Top of the Pops director has to upskirt Karen O in the process. Join host Samuel Spencer on this nostalgic tribute to the chart shows of the 2000s, where we explore the top 40 singles chart from this time 20 years ago. ...And this week's chart may be the most stuck in the noughties the chart has been so far. This week's 2003 countdown features a rogue's gallery of pop music stars who would be essentially unknown by the end of the decade. In the last top 40 of June 2003, our collective arteries were blocked by the cholesterol of Fast Food Rockers endlessly singing "A Pizza Hut, a Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut". We were also left exhausted by the over-the-top dancing of Jennifer Ellison, and left feeling weirdly itchy 'down there' by The Darkness. But pop music was not all bad at at this point in 00s music. Ashanti released an iconic R&B 'bop' it would take the British public 20 years to fully appreciate, and Wayne Wonder was ready to soundtrack a million 2000s barbecues with his laidback anthem No Letting Go. On this week's The 2000s Chart Show, we discuss those songs and more. We also speak to Dannii Minogue about being one of the first artists to play gay bars, discuss the philosophy of S Club, and learn the harrowing story of Delta Goodrem's 2003 cancer struggle. All that plus the following pop music: 50 Cent - In Da Club Abs - Stop Sign Amy Studt - Misfit Ashanti - Rock Wit U (Awww Baby) The Bandits - Take It And Run B2K - Girlfriend Big Brovaz - Favourite Things Busta Rhymes and Mariah Carey - I Know What You Want Christina Aguilera - Fighter Dannii Minogue - Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling The Darkness - Growing On Me David Sneddon - Don't Let Go Delta Goodrem - Lose Without You Dillinja feat. Skibadee - Twist 'Em Out DJ Sammy - Sunlight DMX - X Gon Give It To Ya Electric Six - Gay Bar Emma - Free Me Evanescence - Bring Me to Life Fast Food Rockers - Fast Food Song Flip & Fill feat. Jo James - Field of Dreams Girls Aloud - No Good Advice Good Charlotte - Girls and Boys Jennifer Ellison - Baby I Don't Care Jennifer Lopez - I'm Glad Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body Kurtis Mantronix Presents Chamonix - How Did You Know Linkin Park - Faint Love Inc - Broken Bones Marilyn Manson - Mobscene Placebo - This Picture R Kelly - Ignition Remix Red Hot Chili Peppers - Universally Speaking S Club - Say Goodbye/Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You Sean Paul - Get Busy Shania Twain - Forever and For Always The Thrills - Big Sur Tomcraft - Loneliness Wayne Wonder - No Letting Go XTM & DJ Chucky Presents Annia - Fly on the Wings of Love Hosted on Acast.
