The following questions are answered in this episode: What is the most impactful advice you have heard from the moms you have interviewed? What do you hope your podcast will do for other moms? What made you start this blog/business helping single moms? Were there any blocks when starting and how did you overcome them? What advice would you give for someone wanting to start an online business/blog but don’t think they are qualified enough to speak on the topic? Where did you get your idea of what a mother is supposed to be and are you that or different? Why did you decide to start a podcast for single moms specifically? Who is someone you look up to? Did you take a podcast course? What is one thing that sets you apart? In this episode, I get to sit down with Dominique, matchmaker, certified Divorce Mediator, and Life/Relationship Coach, to discuss dating for single parents. Dominique had her first child at 23 and was with her children's father for five to seven years. She was single for about two years and dating was not even a thought. She returned to church and ended up meeting her significant other there. We discuss: -Why people claim they are okay with being single -How you can prepare to date -When you should consider matchmaking -Why communication is important -Why it's important to figure out what you were responsible for in the last relationship and why you should "work on you" -Why you should follow up after a date A lot of people think they are okay with being single because of things in their past. You have to be honest with yourself. Do you want to date or not? "The relationships that you've been in have the tendency to condition you." -Dominique De'Vizia You accumulate knowledge, money, experiences, prestige, and power but who do you share it with?? Questions to ask yourself: -What kind of man are you looking for? -What does this man spend his leisure time? -What are you going to do to get his attention? -What are you going to do to set yourself apart from the competition? Dating is an art that should be mastered. If you need help, Dominique is available to assist via matchmaking or her Love Scout program. In today’s episode, I sit down to chat with Makasa, a former engineer, who is now a work at home mom. Makasa found out she was pregnant one or two months after breaking up with her high school sweetheart and has been a single mom since pregnancy. Her child’s father was very involved for the first two to three years of her daughter’s life. Before her third birthday, Makasa found out he was married. She was working as a single mom as a manufacturer engineer 50-70 hrs a week, including weekends. She never had much time to spend with her daughter and felt like she was racing the clock. Now, she’s able to do things she normally wouldn’t have time to do, such as field trips and participating on the PTO board. She considers herself the “Rewired Mama” because she had to rewire her mindset. “In order to make a change, you have to change your mindset.” - Kim Makasa’s initial goal was to get an extra $500 to put towards student loans and savings. She exceeded that goal and was able to make $1000 tuition payments for her daughter’s daycare. Since then, Makasa has been able to replace her income and work towards funding her dreams. “Your work ethic writes your check in entrepreneurship.” - Makasa Connect with Makasa via Instagram @makasacovin Connect with me via Instagram @singleblackmotherhood Visit the website at singleblackmotherhood.com
