Letting go of what no longer serves you is one of the hardest—but most transformative—steps in personal growth & transformation. Whether it’s a relationship, a friendship, old habits, outdated mindsets, a place you’ve called home, or even the identity you’ve held onto, saying goodbye can feel like a deep loss. It touches the core of who we are, leaving us grieving the familiar & questioning what’s next. But here’s the truth: this isn’t the end of your story. It’s the closing of a chapter, not the entire book. Letting go isn’t about erasing the past—it’s about honoring what was, releasing what no longer fits, & creating space for something better. In this episode, we’ll dive into the art of letting go—why it’s a crucial step in personal growth & how to identify the things that may be holding you back. We’ll explore the emotional roots of attachment & walk through practical steps to release what no longer serves you, while learning how to navigate the emotional aftermath with self-compassion. Together, we’ll uncover how to transform pain into power & turning endings into beautiful new beginnings. It’s time to clear the path for your next chapter & step fully into the person you’re meant to become. “If I told my story, I had already won.” - Stacy Ann Parish | If we have learned anything in a post-Barbie movie world, it is that women's voices are so incredibly important to listen to. And their stories need to be heard. Their experiences are not only valuable but necessary to learn, grow, and strengthen ourselves as a community. You, your voice, and your stories are just as important. But, expressing yourself and using your voice can be a very scary thing to do. I think a lot of us will be able to relate to that - especially if you identify as a woman. And maybe even more so if you are in another marginalized community or have experienced trauma yourself. I was so inspired listening to Stacy talk about overcoming her own fear of using her voice to go on and win a very intimidating women’s storytelling contest. I knew her wisdom would help you too - and that is right where we will begin the interview. Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@rootandrisepodcast We will discuss: - Using your voice - Feeling like you don’t belong - The power of storytelling - The power of community for women - Feeling safe sharing your story - Feeling safe sharing your truth - Overcoming imposter syndrome - Feeling like you don’t have a spot at the table - Reparenting yourself - Parts work and inner child work - Healing your inner child - Allowing yourself to feel - Validating your own feelings - Giving your inner child a voice - Apologizing to yourself - Forgiving yourself - Repressed memories - Survivor of CSA - CSA Survivor story - What to do when you feel silenced - Telling your story - Writing your story - Healing using art - The art of storytelling and the storytelling in art - Generational trauma and generational healing - An introduction to feminism - How to lean into your feminism - Advice for young feminists and feminist mothers - The power of community for women - Overcoming feeling silenced - Overcoming repressed memories - Healing from repressed memories - Healing from childhood trauma - Healing after abuse and betrayal - Writing/Journaling challenges as a tool for healing - How to overcome self-objectification Podcast Episodes Mentioned: - Breanne’s guest episode on The Full Spirals Podcast “Healing All of Your -Parts (from all the things…) : https://open.spotify.com/episode/25K8fCl8K6xqN36vppCt8I?si=SxxA1o8HR8iGPNsFyLTkFA - The Full Spirals Podcast: “Women of Wisdom: The Sages Series” Introduction: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2uzanmmKgE8XJ6dnoWJ1ZI?si=92xlaYU8SmaCQUDq0W-6RQ - Full Spirals Episode: What is Your Voice Saying About You? We are talking all things BOUNDARIES. This is the final episode of my series with Amy Green Smith. Whether you're joining us for the first time or have been following along with the rest of this series, you're in for a treat. Amy teaches us how to powerfully say no, how to set (and enforce) boundaries with others, and how to overcome guilt associated with any pushback. It's the perfect place to ask any questions that may come up as you listen to this podcast —you could be featured in upcoming episodes! In my previous episodes with Amy, we dove into difficult conversations: How to start them, end them, what to say, and how to stand up for yourself. As well as how to overcome imposter syndrome and finally stop people-pleasing. And those themes didn’t stop there. In this episode, Amy continues to provide even more strategies for navigating those uncomfortable conversations surrounding boundaries AND overcoming people-pleasing - this time in the form of overexplaining when setting a boundary and holding more of someone else’s experience than is ours to hold. Amy walks us into actually embracing boundaries without the unnecessary justifications. And you know we can’t talk about boundaries without talking about what happens when someone doesn’t respect those boundaries. Don’t worry, we got you. Amy gives us actionable advice on handling situations where others disregard your boundaries, advocating for your children, and enforcing consequences when those limits are crossed. I'm sharing my daily gratitude practice with you - the one that has helped me heal through heartaches and traumas. And the one that helps me sleep better each night . I 'm also including my favorite daily journal prompts for free (links below!). But, really quick, I want to give a trigger warning for some of the content in this article. My past abuse is mentioned. And so is the story of someone who had been disabled from a gunshot wound. There are no details given beyond mentioning just that. The focus is on the experience of healing after the fact. I try to be very transparent with others, knowing some people are not in the right place to hear about subjects like these. If you do find yourself triggered by anything brought up in this article, you might find relief in either my Journal Prompts for Triggers or my detailed article on How to Deal with Triggers . As always, I’m here for you. In this episode, we will discuss: The benefits of a daily gratitude practice Daily journal prompts for gratitude Using gratitude to improve mental health, relationships, and overall view of life Promoting self-love and body image through gratitude Finding the silver lining Healing after trauma Healing after heartbreak Finding gratitude after pain, suffering, trauma, or heartbreak True mental and emotional resiliency Episodes and Articles Mentioned: Journal Prompts to Start Your Day Journal Prompts to Reflect at the End of Your Day The Beginning of Root and Rise Journal Prompts for Triggers How to Deal with Triggers Self-Care Ideas and Activities You can find today's show notes on Root and Rise Blog or by clicking here . This series is for all of my new moms, moms-to-be, and the curious-about-motherhood types. We are talking about becoming a mother. It’s going to be beautiful, it’s going to be raw, and above all, it is going to be real. We are kicking off this series by talking about the birth of a mother. You are giving birth to your baby but also a new identity for yourself - a new life on both accounts. There is so much focus on the baby, but not enough on the mother. In this series, we are giving much-needed focus to mothers. We could all benefit from reflecting on our lives, habits, and choices far more than once a year! This keeps you accountable. Before we can talk about moving forward, we must first talk about letting go. Today’s episode was supposed to be about New Year's resolutions and was intended to inspire change in your life. I kept trying to record that episode and had to keep stopping myself. Something in me kept gravitating towards the theme of letting go instead of moving forward. It makes sense though, you can’t move forward without first letting go. I mean, you can, but is it really in your best interest to keep plowing forth with all of that extra baggage? Probably not. I stopped recording and immediately pivoted. Because 2020 has taught us all about pivoting right? In this episode, we are talking about everything we need to let go as we say goodbye to 2020.
