Send us a text In episode 21 of the Coaching Confidential podcast, host Lisa DiMatteo welcomes Veronica Wolff Casey , a clinical ayurvedic medical practitioner and ayurvedic yoga therapist. Veronica shares her journey and expertise in natural health and well-being, discussing her mission to educate and empower people to live their best lives. The coaching conversation revolves around Veronica's desire to launch a podcast and the challenges she faces in getting started. Lisa helps Veronica explore what is holding her back. By the end of the session, Veronica gains clarity on her podcast's mission, and realizes that she doesn't need to know all the answers to begin her podcasting journey. Resources mentioned in this episode include: Veronica Wolff-Casey's Ayurveda & Yoga HQ Dr. Mona Warner's Book "Ayurveda's 3 Pillars of Health" More about the coaching session: The session highlights the importance of embracing uncertainty and taking action, even without knowing all the answers, a highly relatable topic for these modern times. One of the key insights that emerges from the session is the idea that Veronica doesn't necessarily need to know what is holding her back in order to take action. Lisa challenges Veronica's belief that she must have all the answers before starting her podcast, suggesting that sometimes the knowing comes in the doing. This notion challenges Veronica's tendency to seek certainty and pushes her to embrace the uncertainty of starting a podcast without all the answers. As the coaching session progresses, Veronica gains clarity on her podcast's mission and format. She articulates her desire to educate and empower people to live their best lives through ayurveda, yoga, food, and other modalities she has studied throughout her life. Veronica's mission is to simplify these often esoteric concepts and make them accessible to a wider audience, breaking down barriers and ensuring that anyone can understand and benefit from this knowledge. Throughout the coaching session, Veronica's fear of rejection emerges as a significant barrier to launching her podcast. She worries about putting in time and effort only to have no one listen or engage with her content. This fear is rooted in a deep desire to make a meaningful impact and serve her community. Veronica's dedication to helping others and her commitment to providing valuable content drives her fear of not being able to meet these expectations. However, Lisa reframes this fear by highlighting the potential positiv

Send us a text In episode 20 of @thecoachingconfidentialpodcast , we host a conversation with a well known coach & coach educator for the Co-Active Training Institute , Shannon Kelly . Shannon discusses the essence of coaching, which is not about problem-solving but rather about unlearning and opening up to curiosity. She emphasizes the importance of deep listening and creating a space for clients to hear themselves. While problems may be discussed in coaching sessions, the focus is on the person and their inner resources. Shannon also highlights the role of the coach in managing their own problem-solving tendencies and staying present in the moment. Coaching is a transformative process that empowers individuals to tap into their best selves and live a fulfilling life. Key Takeaways: Coaching is about unlearning problem-solving and opening up to curiosity. Deep listening allows clients to relax and hear themselves. The coach's role is to point the listening towards the best parts of the client. Coaching is an improvisational process that unfolds in the present moment. The coach helps clients tap into their naturally creative, resourceful, and whole selves. Quotes: "Coaching is about unlearning problem-solving and opening up to wild curiosity." - Shannon "Deep listening allows the person to relax and actually hear themselves." - Shannon "Coaching is rerouting people and reintroducing the best parts of themselves." - Shannon "The coach's role is to point the listening towards the best parts of the client." - Shannon "Coaching is an improvisational unfolding of two people who are present." - Shannon Check out our sponsor www.seasonalintentions.com If you would like to sample coaching for yourSelf, CONTACT US . Send us a text Decision making isn't always easy even when we think it's supposed to be. In this engaging session, Vimla coaches Emilie , a dynamic entrepreneur and yoga instructor at Seasonal Intentions . Emilie is looking to get clarity that will help her make a decision impacting her career, family and finances. From a place of uncertainty, Emilie emerges clear, reconnecting with important elements of herself that are her surest guides toward 'the right' decision. If you've ever struggled to make a decision you're likely to get a lot from this episode. Our client Emilie Reid is an entrepreneur and the founder of Seasonal Intentions, an online business that focuses on Ayurvedic-inspired yoga and seasonal living. She is also a part-time teacher at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Massachusetts. Key Takeaways: Starting Point and Desired Outcome: The session began with Emily's question about when to invest in continuing education. Her desired outcome was to gain clarity, rather than making an immediate decision. Defining Clarity: Vimla skillfully helped Emily identify how she would know when she was clear about her decision. This involved connecting with the feeling in her body as an indicator of clarity. Reflective Exploration: The conversation revolved around walking metaphorically through a labyrinth, circling the topic of continuing education, and exploring different energies and perspectives. Empowered Decision-Making: The session focused on the process of decision-making and choosing the energy from which decisions are made. Outcome: Clarity and Process: The primary outcome was not a definitive decision but rather the process of gaining clarity through self-awareness and exploration. Quotes: "I want time to integrate. I want time to actually feel the effects, I want time to experience." - Emilie "I feel like I'm coming around again, kind of like in my previous life... I'm a little bit like, why do I need this certification?" - Emilie "I want less scattered, more integration, more wholeness." - Emilie Check out our sponsor www.seasonalintentions.com If you would like to sample coaching for yourSelf, CONTACT US . Send us a text In a departure from our live, unscripted coaching format we are continuing our "Conversations with Coaches" series exploring how life changes when one goes through coach training and begins are career as a professional coach . You might be thinking, is this such a big shift - becoming a coach? Well, most coaches we know have indicated significant life shifts and we decided to talk to coaches about the relational shifts. In this episode we chat with Howard Stanten of Vanguard Coaching . Howard is married to Erin McGuire , also of Vanguard Coaching. This is an insightful conversation outlining the shifts in the relationship between a married couple as they somewhat simultaneously move through coach training and start a business coaching other couples. You'll hear questions & nuggets such as: What's it like as a coach to be married to another coach? "How do you BE curious vs. DO curious?" "How do we use these new tools to help each other in ways we know we want to be helped?" "We were learning new ways to be...and there were a lot of blurry lines." "Being committed to each other's growth is the stake of our relationship." "...it would stir up defensiveness...we still needed permission to be 'coach-like' in the early days." "We don't often have the conversation about the conversation and it's so important to relationships." "With friends and family we can have agendas...and we can get triggered when they are not showing up aligned with those agendas." "Let it go and bring curiosity...or a sense of wonder to the conversation." As always we love to hear what comes up for you when you listen. Please reach out to us here . Send us a text Episode 14 continues our conversation series with professional certified coaches. This episode features a chat with coach Edwin Vega . You'll hear from Edwin about how he feels he's always been a coach, or at least coach-like. We learn about his particular approach with clients informed largely by his 'why' in life and his love of children. Edwin shares how he even tells some of his corporate clients that he loves them. We know for some this may sound revolutionary! Interesting to note that Edwin has become more of who he always was through his coaching journey. Perhaps just a more deeply concentrated version of himself. His essence is palpable in our chat and the very thing that is his signature with his clients. Edwin is faculty at the Co-Active Training Institute. Another example of Edwin's investment in human via teaching, learning, and loving. Send us a text In this episode of Coaching Confidential we begin a series of conversations with professional coaches on the topic of what is different in their life since they've chosen coaching as a profession. Our first conversation is with Terry Barkman of Sailboat Coaching International . Terry and Lisa chat about one aspect of how personal relationships are impacted by coach-like behaviors. Terry will tell us about one relationship that faced a dead end and how he thinks about the idea that "the conversation between two people IS actually the relationship between two people." Finally, we explore how some skills learned in coaching school are actually valuable relationship resources in human relationship. And how these are sometimes confused for coaching. A topic we'll dive into more deeply in future episodes. Also, check out Terry on Tedx. His recent talk is here . Send us a text In episode 12 we share a looking back (or retrospective) session with our client Kate. Recently reaching a significant career goal, we walk along with Kate as she recalls some of the key milestones of her journey to a new, significant promotion in her work. But we don't only accompany Kate, we help her pause, reflect, and dig a bit deeper. In a retrospective coaching session we focus on slowing the client down in the replay of how they met their goal. We invite them to linger in key moments long enough to fully embrace the ingredients (or gifts) they brought to bare that were instrumental to their success in reaching the goal. We invite the client to name and claim these raw materials. And create some inquiry around how these materials are useful in other pursuits in their life. In our fast paced culture we are often moving from one accomplishment to the next without stopping to celebrate, acknowledge or even take inventory of the raw materials we possess. This type of session is powerful. This episode is an actual , real life, unscripted coaching session. Unlike episode 11, where we also looked back, but in a coach-like conversation, not an actual session. Our invitations to you as you listen include: -What do you notice in your thoughts and your body sensations? -What are some of your natural resources? -How do you call them up when needed? -What could you gain from looking back at a goal recently accomplished? Send us a text This episode is all about the magic and pure value of the reflective process . Have you ever reached a goal and moved immediately from the worlds shortest 'congrats' straight to forming the next goal? Do you usually skip 'celebrating' meeting a goal ? Culturally (in America) it's fair to say we don't place a lot of value on stopping to celebrate even the smallest successes . As a coach with your clients, or as a human having met a goal, if you don't spend much time celebrating OR looking back on the moments that got you to the finish line, this episode is for you. There is so much to be learned from taking a pause and reflecting on the moments along the way. What is observed in this pause often becomes the key to our future successes. In this episode we do just that with your hosts Vimla & Lisa. @JohnPoelstra.com (Episode 3) returns to help us celebrate, reflect, and get curious, but not actually coach us after meeting our goals of creating 10 episodes of our podcast Coaching Confidential just for play. In this episode you'll hear a "coach-like" conversation not an ACTUAL coaching session. Can you spot the difference? Send us a text This episode focuses on our client Yamini. Yamini's topic is focused on becoming more resilient. Specifically, resilience in the face of feelings that result in behaviors she feels aren't good for her or those around her. 'Being with' both "good" and "bad" outcomes can be a real balancing act. Can you relate? What you will hear is the client showing up to the session seeking advice, tips or tricks. What you will notice is that by the end of the session she comes to her very own. She creates for herSelf an experiment in which the results can neither be right nor wrong. We include a brief follow up session to check in on the results of her experiment and what's different for her. Send us a text In this episode, the second in a series of three on the topic of Authentic Relating, we continue to learn by playing. Yes, playing. Our guest Gabe DeRita leads your host Lisa D through Authentic Relating games, or exercises. Listen in as an entirely new way of relating (to your host) is exposed. Trigger warning: This gets a bit intimate for some. Some of what you'll hear between Gabe and Lisa includes; naming what's present in connection, noticing what's emerging in the moment, questioning assumptions, revealing emotional states and taking ownership of one's own experience. As a reminder the 5 practices of "AR": Welcome Everything Assume Nothing Reveal Your Experience Own Your Experience Honor YourSelf and Other The 'Noticing Game' stems: Being here with you I notice... Hearing that I notice/feel... What's going on for you, what you imagine is going on for other, what's happening in the shared space. A slightly edgier version invites us to get better at noticing, naming and dropping assumptions as they arise. More on Authentic Relating . More on Gabe DeRita . Send us a text If you ever thought coaching was a tool to fix a problem - you're right, and that's not all it's about. If your life is great and you want to make it awesome, coaching could be for you, too. In this episode we invite Ilinca Manu, ACC (associate certified coach) to the podcast to coach Lisa DiMatteo, PCC (professional certified coach) on the topic of making an awesome life 'awesomer.' This conversation is about: Creating a solid plan to ensure completion of a project Raising the bar on a goal already in progress Recognizing a "non-supportive" habit pattern & working around it You will hear how the coach in this episode helps the client unlock a custom designed solution. She does this by asking open-ended questions, reflecting what the coach is hearing & sensing, and while being a creative thought partner, not being attached to her own ideas of what is happening. You'll also hear the coach & the client debrief the session. And your hosts, Lisa D & Vimla will talk about why a session like this is helpful in reaching goals, changing habits, working with 'what is', and creating a more awesome life. Send us a text Do you ever resist seeing yourSelf in your best and true light? Do you tend to focus on what's missing or feeling into where you aren't enough? We can call this 'imposter syndrome.' Many talented and successful individuals suffer this syndrome. For me it's like looking into a circus mirror. A distorted view of what is. It's a complete surprise when someone rolls up a real mirror and I see reflected back a different, not distorted image. This episode begins to work through the process of seeing what's in the less distorted mirror. Listen to the excrutiating resistance of this client met by the gentle 'being with' and encouraging opportunity to take a small step forward out of that resistance that our coach offers. Send us a text Have you ever been stuck? Ridiculous question right? This episode is about getting unstuck. Becoming really clear(er). And moving forward! Your hosts, Lisa and Vimla reach out to a coach friend, John Poelstra for a session that has become episode 3. You'll hear John ask some simple yet clarifying questions. You'll hear us 'sound out' our answers which John repeats back in words so simple we can actually hear ourselves. John helps both of us get clear on why we're doing this podcast. In doing so we get unstuck and create a clear goal that we are well on our way to achieving!
