How do you accurately assess if it’s the right time to make a big change in your branding if it’s a bit of a financial stretch? I’m sharing the four things to keep in mind before you make an investment and how to know when leaping before you're ready-- whether it’s a website rebrand or whole new wardrobe-- is worth it. In today’s episode, I’m covering one of my favorite topics: how you can use your style as a form of nonverbal communication to make your personal brand more memorable. While political style may seem boring, speech writing teams and political advisors actually spend a significant amount of time looking at style as part of their overall communication plan. In light of that, I’m sharing three examples of what women in politics wore this year with you to illustrate how your clothes impact your non-verbal communication. Listen in to hear how you can use use your personal style to create a more memorable personal brand by learning: How Ruth Badder Ginsberg’s collar made her memorable, and eventually iconic, by using an accessory as a visual reminder of how significant it was that she was a woman on the Supreme Court. Find out how you can use accessories like she did to help your audience connect more deeply with you and your message. How Melania Trump’s outfit at the Republican National Convention this year was an example of how your personal style can overshadow your message if what you wear and what you say are not aligned (and how you can avoid doing this at your next talk or presentation) How Kamala Harris' decision to wear head-to-toe purple at the Democratic National Convention served to reinforce her identity and remind viewers that not all women were grated the right to vote in the U.S. on the 100th anniversary of the women's suffrage movement. Today on the podcast I’m taking a deeper look into why the phrase “When you look good, you feel good” isn't always true. You’ve probably had the experience of shopping for an outfit you thought looked amazing on you in the store but when you wore it out in the world, it didn't feel right. Or, maybe you bought an outfit you saw on someone else and loved but when you wore it, you didn’t feel like yourself. Why does this happen to us? I’m answering that very question today. Tune in to hear how I figured out what the key differentiating factor is between clients who have great outfits vs. those who have a recognizable signature style. The most fascinating part of it all? In today’s episode, I’m sharing some tips for dressing for speaking engagements. This is one of the MOST requested topics I get on Instagram so I hope this answers your questions. I want to break this down into two categories of speaking engagements because the strategy behind dressing for speaking engagements of different sizes, differs a little bit. Listen in to hear the difference and how you can leverage your wardrobe to make an unforgettable impression at your next talk or presentation. In this episode I cover: -The key differences to keep in mind when dressing for speaking events on a stage and more intimate group settings like a presentation or a networking event. -How to use color and silhouette to establish your presence on stage. -The exact outfit details will help you be memorable at smaller, more intimate speaking events like book signings or networking presentations. -What to be thinking about when it comes to dressing for your personal brand and preparing for your next public speaking event. -What you need to ask about the venue you will be speaking in to ensure you don’t blend in with your surroundings, making your message less memorable to your audience. ...And a lot more! In this episode, I’m sharing a mini-training on how to find the right colors for you so you can feel confident incorporating them into your wardrobe. Figuring out the best colors for you is both an art and a science. In this short episode, I’m going to help you understand the three most important aspects of color. The first is how to figure out your skin’s undertones so you can find the exact colors that will make your skin look amazing and your eyes look bright. The second is how to find your best neutral tones to anchor your wardrobe (think what color shoes, layers, and bags) to help your outfit look more pulled together. And last, I’m sharing a quick overview of the meanings we associate with each color so you can use color to deepen the impact of your personal brand. In today’s episode of the podcast, I'm digging into getting dressed when life feels hard. I recorded this in week 4 of the stay at home orders issued during the U.S. Coronavirus pandemic so this topic, while planned a month ago, felt especially fitting. This episode was originally created as a resource for women going through painful life experiences like breakups, job stress, IVF and infertility, loss and grief. Whether you’re dealing with a pandemic or a breakup, this episode is applicable to so many stressful life experiences. Getting dressed during any difficult seasons of life can feel more like a burden than a help, so today I want to offer some perspective on how to use your clothes as a form of self-care by sharing more about these seven actionable tips: Create an internal awareness of when pajamas (or yoga pants) are self-care vs. self indulgence. The importance of busting the #1 belief so many women fall into the trap of believing about their style when they're under stress. Use color and scent to change your mood during stressful times. Rewrite views about your body and dressing your body that tend to arise during stressful times (both positive and negative ones). The easy, unexpected confidence boost that small upgrades to your wardrobe can provide during stressful times. The value of finding a uniform or outfit formula that always works for you (especially when life gets stressful). Why getting back into your body when you’re under stress using self-care and your morning routine is so powerful. In this episode, I’m breaking down how to think about yourself and your wardrobe as a reflection of your personal brand. Using your wardrobe to embrace your brand is more than just picking out a few cute outfits. It’s about becoming more fully expressed as a business owner, entrepreneur, and leader. Your wardrobe should support you and make you feel like you are representing yourself exactly the way you want and need to show up, spread your message and grow your business. It should also make you feel braver and remind you of not just who you are today but who you’re becoming. The real power of our wardrobes is that they can act as a constant running conversation with ourselves about the women we are working to become. Listen to find out how to embrace yourself every day, not just when you’re giving a talk or putting together a photoshoot. In this episode of The Self Styled Podcast, I’m digging into what’s really holding you back from having the personal style you really want...your mindset. Mindset isn’t something that gets talked about a whole lot when it comes to having the personal style we want but after ten years working as a personal stylist, I’ve come to realize that just giving someone the clothes they think they want isn’t enough to help them feel empowered in those clothes or even have them take the clothes out of their closet or wear them. Today I’m sharing the three categories of beliefs that women often struggle with when they are exploring their personal style: our beliefs about our bodies, our beliefs about money, and our beliefs of what other people think of us. I’m breaking down all the mindset blocks I commonly see in clients and sharing how you can move past them and to find your unique personal style.
