What happens when a seemingly idyllic life in a small Irish village turns into a horrifying tragedy? Join us as we uncover the grim tale of the Fox family from Castle Daly, Ireland, forever etched in the annals of true crime history. In this heart-wrenching episode, we honor the memories of Debbie Fox and her two young sons, Trevor and Killian, whose lives were brutally taken by Debbie's husband, Gregory Fox, in 2001. With insights from Nicola Tallant's compelling book, "Flesh and Blood," we explore the chilling realities of coercive control that shattered this family's world, while challenging the pervasive narratives that often blame victims rather than holding abusers accountable. Send us a text Join me as we mark an important milestone: the one-year anniversary of the Killer in the Family podcast. This special episode delves into the chilling story of Mark Barton, a man whose life spiralled into a deadly rampage, devastating numerous families and communities. We'll uncover Barton's coercive and controlling behaviour, exploring how these actions escalated to the murder of his wife Leanne, stepchildren Matthew and Michelle, and eventually nine others in a brutal spree. I also share updates on my ongoing research into coercive control as a risk factor in intimate partner homicides, and my journey towards a professional doctorate in criminal justice. Send us a text What happens when systemic failures allow a predator to unleash unimaginable horror on an innocent family? Join us as we confront the chilling case of Lesley Ford and her children, who were brutally murdered by Lee Ford in August 2000. This episode navigates through Leslie's life in Telford, her marriage to Michael Tranter, and the birth of their children: Sarah Jane, Ann-Marie, Craig, and Steven. We examine Ford's need for power and control, which shattered this family's existence, and highlight the emotional toll on those left behind. As we recount this harrowing tale, we also shed light on Ford's potential parole in 2027 and reflect on the emotional scars carried by the victims' loved ones. Send us a text The tragic story of Christine Chambers and her daughter Shania is one that exemplifies the darkest corners of domestic abuse and the heartbreaking failures of the systems meant to protect. As we discuss the chilling history of violence that culminated in their deaths, we also reflect on the resilience and enduring spirit of Christine's other daughter, Chelsea, and her two older sons. In June 2011 just hours before they were due at a custody hearing Christine Chambers and her two year old daughter Shania were killed by her ex-partner David Oakes. Her other daughter managed to escape and raise the alarm. David was a man with a violent history who breached non-molestation orders many times since Christine had broken up with him – he wasn’t sanctioned at all and instead was free to kill Christine, Shania and try and kill Chelsea. There was more the police and other services could and should have done. This is the story of Christine and Shania Chambers. Send us a text On 22 January 2006 in Hopkinton Massachusetts, 27 year old Rachel Entwistle and 9 month old Lillian were found dead in the house they shared with husband and father Neil. He was nowhere to be found however. Having fled back to his homeland of Nottinghamshire in the UK, Neil was arrested and brought back to the US to face trial for the murder of his wife and baby. Facing huge debts, seeking sex online and leading a double life, Neil tried the common trope of the family annihilator to blame his wife for the deaths. Ultimately, he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife and baby. This is the story of Rachel and Lillian, Lilly, Souza. Send us a text On Friday 19th January 2024 police forced entry into a house in Costessey which is just outside the centre of Norwich in Norfolk. They were responding to a call from a concerned member of the public. Inside the house they found two children and two adults dead and presumably murdered. They were two sisters, their father and their aunt and they had all died by stab wounds. We look into the police communications and media portrayals, and how they shape our understanding of such tragedies. With no criminal trial or full inquest to guide us, we rely on the puzzle pieces provided by various reports, all while being mindful of the sensitive nature of the incident. This episode is in memory of Jasmin, Natasha, Kanticha and Bartlomiej. Send us a text In December 2001 the bodies of two young children were found in the waters of Lint Slough in Oregan. Days later the bodies of a woman and another child were found less than a mile away. Mary Jane Longo and her children Zachary, Sadie and Madison had been found dead and their husband and father Christian Longo was nowhere to be found. Put on the FBI’s Most Wanted list Christian Longo was found and arrested in Mexico where he was using a false name of Michael Finkel who was an American journalist. A killer who denied his crimes until the end, Christian Longo killed his whole family in cold blood to cover up his many failings. The core of this episode delves into the abyss of one man's unthinkable crimes. This narrative isn't just about Christian Longo's unfathomable decision to murder his family and flee, but also about honouring the memory of Mary Jane and her children. Send us a text In April 2018 Steven Pladl suffocated and killed his seven-month-old son Bennet – who was also his grandson. The next day he shot and killed his estranged wife Katie – who was also his daughter - and her adoptive father Anthony. He then took his own life. A serial predator who took whatever and whoever he wanted Pladl’s murders spanned three states and ruined numerous lives. This episode is not for the faint of heart, for it scrutinizes how Pladl's manipulation and abuse persisted under the noses of those who should have intervened. We probe the silence of adoptive parents, the lapses in authority response, and the chilling reality that this story could have had a different ending. The conversation is raw, the details are unsettling, but the importance of shedding light on such darkness is undeniable. This is the story of Bennett Pladl and Katie and Anthony Fusco. Having been investigated for domestic abuse previously, his wife Tausha had initiated divorce proceedings just two weeks before the killing, Michael exerted his one final act of control over his whole family. The facade of happiness, maintained by Michael Haight before he committed the unthinkable, starkly contrasts with the suffering endured by his family, a chilling revelation about the power dynamics and hidden strife within their home. Send us a text Stepping into the dark corridors of the human psyche, we confront the daunting reality of family annihilations, where those meant to protect become the perpetrators of ultimate betrayal. As I weave through my master's studies, the weight of understanding coercive control and its link to intimate partner homicide bears heavily on this episode. We honour the victims, not just as statistics, but as individuals whose stories demand to be heard and remembered. Harnessing the power of research and the heartfelt words from those left behind, we seek to comprehend the incomprehensible. The discussion delves into the motivations of men like Robert Mochrie and John List, whose twisted sense of control and masculinity led them down a path of destruction, forever altering the course of many lives. In giving voice to the sorrow and strength of the families affected, we reaffirm our commitment to keeping the memory of the lost alive. Through this exploration, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of these tragedies, their underlying causes, and the importance of ongoing research and dialogue to prevent future losses. Join us as we navigate these turbulent waters, in the hope of shining a light on the darkness that is family annihilation. This episode is dedicated to the 37 women and children who lost their lives too soon at the hands of someone who should have loved and protected them the most: Shannan Watts, Bella, CeCe and Nico Watts, Hannah Clarke, Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey Clarke, Catherine Mochrie, Bethan, Luke, Sian, and James Mochrie, Jill Bluestone, Henry and Chandler, Jessica and Jack Bluestone, Claire and Charlotte Hart, Helen, Patricia, Frederick, John Frederick and Alma List, Megan, Alek, Tyler and Zoe Todt, Teresa, Katherine, James and Karen Crawford, Emma and Letti Pattison, Julia and Will Pemberton and Laci and Conner Peterson.
