In this episode, they delve into the world of radiation therapy and discuss various aspects of the profession. Laura begins by highlighting the emotional toll of working in radiation therapy, particularly with cancer patients, and the importance of self-care and work-life balance to navigate these challenges. While salary is not the sole motivation, Laura emphasizes the significance of compensation for financial security and quality of life. They also shed light on the career opportunities in radiology, specifically in radiation therapy, which only requires a two-year education but offers a good income and the ability to support oneself and family. Laura shares her own experience of attending shorter schools for one or two years, the stress involved, and the need to find a balance between studying and having a social life. However, the job satisfaction and impact on patients make it all worth it. The discussion then moves on to the technological advancements in radiation therapy, such as adaptive therapy, which allows treatment plans to be adjusted based on daily tumor size. Laura also highlights the integration of MRI with radiation therapy, showcasing the increasing collaboration between different modalities. She believes in the importance of cross-training in other modalities, such as radiation therapists learning MRI and using ultrasound and X-ray. Unity and collaboration within the profession are emphasized, with Laura discussing her involvement in the Radiation Therapist Association of New York State and the need to have a voice and advocate for the profession's progress. Moving to Laura's journey in becoming a radiation therapist, she shares her experience of attending a radiation therapy school in Atlanta after completing prerequisites in radiology. She mentions the limited acceptance into the program and advises students to choose their own path and overcome obstacles to succeed in their careers. She also discusses the changing requirements for becoming a radiologic technologist, with many programs now requiring a degree. The process of radiation treatment for cancer patients is explained, including imaging tests, biopsies, simulation using CT scans, and the multiple radiation treatments over several weeks. The treatment plan aims to target the tumor area while avoiding healthy tissues, requiring regular appointments with Send us a text <a target="_blank" href="http://

Fresh fruit, veggies, green tea and some sprouted quinoa, mixed with filtered water and avocado make up this delicious vegan shake that will help you cleanse and reset. This recipe makes enough for a full day, so you can have your breakfast for days! It's important to Detox on a regular basis as it helps balance hormones and assists the body in removing toxins that may be stored in fat cells. Adapting to a vegan lifestyle is very beneficial but removing all animal products from the diet is not always realistic when life has other demands. You can maintain a vegan lifestyle while still eating eggs and dairy products. And remember: happy plants make happy animals... only if they are treated well while they are alive!!! Dr. Tanya Lambert MD I am a medical doctor and am completing my masters in public health in the field of epidemiology. After medical school, I decided to enter the field of women’s health coaching and health education. This decision came after my own personal battle with fibroids. While I was in medical school, I suffered from intense uterine bleeding and took the conventional therapies but had very little success. After adopting a plant based diet, learning how to meal prep and using effective supplements I was able to shrink my fibroids successfully. I now teach women the tools that I learned to balance their hormones naturally by choosing an effective healthy plant based diet and lifestyle. Chaundria Singleton welcomes Marsha Dunn to explore the fascinating world of mammography and radiology in a heartfelt and engaging conversation. With over 25 years of experience in the field, Marsha shares her journey from general X-ray to becoming a specialist in mammography, a path that was influenced by her personal experiences and her family’s health history. Chandriya, who has her own story of being proactive about breast health due to a family history of breast cancer, emphasizes the importance of education and awareness in women's health issues. Together, they discuss the emotional aspects of mammography, where patients often confide in technologists about their fears and stories, highlighting the trust established in these intimate healthcare settings. The conversation also delves into the technical advancements in mammography technology, particularly the shift from traditional film to 3D tomosynthesis. Marsha explains how this innovation allows for more precise imaging, enhancing the ability to detect issues that may not be visible in standard 2D images. The duo also addresses common misconceptions about mammograms, especially regarding the discomfort associated with the procedure. They advocate for better communication between technologists and patients to alleviate fears and emphasize that the discomfort is a small price to pay for potentially life-saving diagnostics. Both women express a desire to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. Marsha's commitment to education is evident as she discusses her new role as a breast consultant and educator, aiming to promote knowledge about mammography and empower women to take charge of their breast health. They conclude with an encouraging message about the diverse opportunities within the medical field, urging listeners to explore careers in radiology and emphasizing the critical role that technologists play in patient care. Takeaways: Mammography is a critical part of women's health, and education around it is essential. Marsha Dunn emphasizes the importance of proper patient care and communication during mammograms. Radiology offers various career paths, including specialized roles that can be pursued quickly. Understanding the technology behind mammography helps demystify the process for patients. Travel assignments in radiology provide opportunities for professional growth and better pay. You should conduct regular breast self-exams and be proactive about your health. This episode dives deep into the world of mammography technology, featuring expert Marsha Dunn, who brings over 25 years of experience to the conversation.
