In this episode of the Dudes and Dads podcast, we dive into a recent study highlighting how our 20-somethings are struggling, specifically to keep their jobs. We discuss how we can be preparing our young people to enter the workforce with purpose and mission. Drawing on a report, we look at the top reasons why recent college graduate hires have not been successful. These include a significant lack of motivation or initiative , poor professionalism, which encompasses being on time and meeting etiquette, challenges with feedback (receiving criticism poorly), poor organizational skills, poor communication skills , and difficulty working on a team. We explore how parents, guardians, and educators can better prepare young people. We also discuss the importance of developing both character and competency for success in any vocation. We share our perspective on how work, done well, is an act of worship, reflecting our relationship with God. Give us some feedback Audience feedback drives the show. On this episode of the Dudes and Dads Podcast, join Andy and Joel as they welcome back returning guests Justin and Trisha Davis, authors of the new book “One Choice Away from Change”. Justin and Trisha share the inspiration behind their latest work, which focuses on breaking the cycles that hurt relationships and hold you back. They delve into the idea that it often takes just one choice to step onto a different path towards healing. The conversation explores the limitations of mere behavior modification and emphasizes the importance of understanding deeper heart wounds that perpetuate destructive patterns in various areas of life, including marriage, parenting, career, and friendships. Justin and Trisha openly discuss their own journey of overcoming significant challenges, including infidelity, and how those experiences have shaped their perspective on telling the truth as the crucial first step in breaking free from negative cycles. They also share insights on parenting adult children, shifting from a coaching role to mentorship, and the long game of fostering strong relationships over simply enforcing rules. Justin recounts a personal experience of unintentionally repeating a past relational wound with one of his sons, highlighting that it’s never too late to have honest conversations and work towards healing. In this episode, we talk with Jake from Into the Light about the ministry’s new resources designed to equip parents in the fight against pornography. Two years ago, Jake joined us to talk about the Into the Light documentary, a powerful film that helps those struggling with pornography find freedom in Christ. Now, Into the Light is releasing new resources designed to help parents protect their kids and start conversations about God’s design for sexuality. Jake explains the two main resources: a nine-part master class series called Parenting and Pornography, Roadmaps to Raising Children of Integrity and a practical tutorial series to help parents make the devices in their home safe. He shares insights on how to think about technology theologically and practically and discusses why these conversations are so important in today’s hypersexualized culture. If you are a parent who feels overwhelmed by the digital world and wants to protect your children from the dangers of pornography, this episode is for you! On this episode we talk about teenage dating, should we let our kids, should we say no, and what are some rules around it. We need your help As you know, we love bringing you every episode of the Dudes and Dads Podcast, and we’re committed to making it the best experience possible for you. Right now, we rely on a laptop provided by an employer to edit our episodes and stream our live shows. While we’re incredibly thankful for their support, this laptop will soon not be available to us due to some policy changes on their end. That’s why we’re raising funds to buy a new MacBook Pro for the Dudes and Dads Podcast. This new MacBook Pro is a top-of-the-line model that will cost around $4,700, but it’s an investment that will last us a long time and significantly enhance our production quality and reliability. If you’ve enjoyed our content, learned something valuable, or simply had a good laugh, we’d really appreciate your support in helping us get this new equipment. Every little bit helps, whether it’s a few dollars or a larger contribution. Together, we can keep the Dudes and Dads Podcast running smoothly and sounding better than ever! On this episode we talk with Greg Neumayer about the need for adventure and wonder. Greg leads groups of men on trips to the Tetons and talks about why adventure and wonder is a necessity for humans. Adventure -The big question: do I have what it takes? -Adventure begins when we ask questions like, “has anyone ever?” or “what if?” or “could I maybe?” -Not all about adrenaline- it’s about existential satisfaction, personally connecting with something outside of ourselves and advancing a story -Mechanics/physics/engineering/processing or transmitting information of a personal value, Volunteering or Philanthropy about beautifying the world: both are different sides of the adventure coin -Moving from point a to point b via effort and will, solving the problem and restoring wholeness to the system maybe only we see is others’ adventure -Taming something wild (computer code, garden, art, music, writing, etc.) is another kind of adventure Wonder -Wonder taps into our curiosity when we ask questions like “What was it like before? How tall is that tree? What does that bird eat? Where do squirrels live? How far away is that one tree way out there? How many rain drops does it take before you have a cloud? What was that person’s childhood in the 50s like? What does that tattoo represent?” -Wonder should leave us feeling small -Wonder should bring us to a place of awe -Wonder encourages us to witness incomprehensible things rather than keep explaining it all away and looking for boxes to contain the world -Wonder happens when we begin realizing the world moves and works without our input Wilderness Spaces Merge Adventure and Wonder Together! -Biblical Theme (Abraham, Moses, Joshua, David, Elijah, Elisha, Jesus, Peter, Paul, etc.) -The chaos ratio- if there is more chaos out there than in myself, I can bring what feels out of stability within myself into view more readily. -I’ve observed of myself and others- the more control I’m used to the less comfortable I am in the wilderness and the harder it is for me to access Wonder. -I’ve learned how important it is to grasp your accounting for resources and learn the stability of “enough” when intentionally entering the Wilderness. “Don’t let your spirit die before your body does” from Jon Foreman Song- Terminal: https://youtu.be/wYBvmatxKL0?feature=shared Support the podcast If you received any value from this podcast please consider giving back your time, talent, or treasure to help grow this podcast. Bob is currently working through this book with some men, so we thought it would be good to have him on this episode to talk about the book. We talk about how we as humans put up a false self, and how this is damaging to us, our relationship with God and others. We talk about how to become more authentic in a superficial world. Happy fathers day, friends. We know that this day is not always an easy day for many men. Men who have lost their father, or lost a child due to stillbirth, miscarriage, or other death. Men, we are here for you. Being fathers day, we wanted to bring our own children on the show and chat with them a little about being our kids. Joel’s children were out of town so we only brought Andy’s kids in this round. We ask the kids many questions ranging from what they like to do with Andy, to qualities they hope to pass to their own kids. On this episode you will hear two songs that Andy made up to try and pass values on to his kids. We know this episode is a little different from our normal episodes and we hope you enjoy hearing from our kids. Thank you all for participating in the “Dear Boys” book give away. We draw the winner and announce it on this show. Thanks for all your support. Joel has a group of men that he regularly sends prayer requests to, Andy use to have a group that he could go to and ask for help and accountability. As men we can not do this life alone and we should have regular people who can speak into our lives, and our children should see this modeled in their parents lives. This episode talks about the importance of having others available for you. We also give details on how you can win the book “Dear Boys: The letter every son needs from his father.

On this episode we talk with our friends Nolan Rhodes, Tristan Clark, and Cory Eash about their generation, Generation Z. This is the first show in our dudes of the square table format. On dudes of the square table episodes we invite a panel of guests to talk about a specific subject. We talk about misconceptions that other generations have about them, what makes them tick . With generation Z there is “extended adolescence”, we ask our guests if they are experiencing this themselves or see it in their friends. We also talk about community and what that looks like to them. Gen Z also delays marriage, parenthood, first-home, our friends on this episode talk about this idea, as well as how do they make big life decisions. This is only part one of our discussion about generation Z. On episode 5 we will continue our talk with Cory, Nolan, and Tristan. We thank our patrons who financially keep this show running.
