This episode focuses on the real-life history behind the play that became a musical, that eventually became a hit film!

It means a lot that you're willing to spend your time hanging out with us. Welcome back to the BCD, Cassettes! There are some films that go hand in hand with the holiday season. These are movies that we watch every year with our families because they remind us of our childhood and the spirit of Christmas. But in the past couple decades, a different kind of holiday movie has taken the season by storm. They’re known for their cheesy lines, simplistic plotlines, and by-the-numbers predictability. Many fans claim to watch these made-for-TV movies as a guilty pleasure, while others have fully embraced their comforting tropes. We’re talking, of course, about Hallmark Christmas movies. You know the deal: He’s a small town business owner of some kind (Christmas trees/coffee shop/bakery) and she’s a successful woman from the city with a vague job title. Why don’t we know what she does? Well, that’s because it doesn’t matter; she’s quitting that job by the end of the movie. They were lovers once, or maybe she left him at the altar, and this Christmas, they may just find their way back to each other again. Each Christmas, these cookie cutter movie plots dominate social media because they are an easy target. But this got us wondering, when did it all start? Over the last twenty years or so, Hallmark essentially invented their own genre, which is honestly pretty impressive. So today, we’re getting a better look at the history of Hallmark Christmas movies and discussing the formula that has made them so successful. So grab your favorite movie snack and cuddle up next to a roaring TV, it’s time to talk about Hallmark Christmas movies!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Cassettes! For Christmas this year, we all sat down to watch the delightful Babes in Toyland (1986)! None of us had seen this movie before, and it was a wild ride!
Thu, December 16, 2021
There’s no doubting it, folks, the holidays are here! And with this season comes the return of certain movies. Of course, it’s just not Christmas if Ralphie doesn’t put on the pink bunny suit in a Christmas Story, or if we miss Kevin McAlister setting the traps in his Chicago home. Over time, these films have come to define the Christmas season so well, it’s already hard to imagine what Christmas was like without them. Today, we’re talking about one such movie. It’s a story about a man that believes he’s lived a worthless life until he’s given an incredible gift; a chance to see what the world would be like without him. It’s a Wonderful Life is so classic, we’ll bet you even know the story even if you haven’t seen it. Countless TV shows have spoofed the famous plot, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to The Fairly Odd Parents. But, this popular Christmas gem didn’t start out as wonderfully as you would think. In fact, the film underperformed initially, landing its fledgling production studio about $500,000 worth of debt. So, how did this dud find its place as a bonafide Christmas Classic? Grab a glass of Flaming Rum Punch (or whatever you prefer) and settle in as we discover the story behind It’s a Wonderful Life!

Hey, Cassettes, and welcome to the first episode of the Christmas Case Diaries! We have a big month planned, filled with all kinds of holiday fun. In December of 1962, people all across America turned on their TV sets to watch the first full-length animated Christmas TV special. Keeping with Christmas tradition, the special was an adaptation of A Christmas Carol, but with one notable twist: famous cartoon character Quincy Magoo was playing the part of Ebeneezer Scrooge. Boasting colorful and stylish limited animation and songs written by Broadway musicians, Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol became an instant holiday classic. Although lesser-known than many other 1960s animated specials, it’s a delightful retelling of a familiar story, packed with great performances and animation, unlike anything you’ll see today. So, since this is our first episode of the month, we decided to start by covering the very FIRST animated Christmas special! Grab some woofle jelly cake with razzleberry dressing and come join us! You'll find sources and notes here: https://www.blackcasediaries.com/blog Let us know what you think of this special on Twitter: @blackcasediary or Instagram @blackcasediariespodcast Thanks for listening!

Hey Cassettes! We're starting our Frightening February with part 1 of our Historical Case of The Horror Film! Ever since there has been life, there has been fear. It’s a constant, a truth, something that unites us all. And when humans gathered together to share their fears, those horrors became stories. Eventually, those stories made their way onto film. Horror is tricky. It’s a genre that many people love or hate--with no in-between. Some people write off many films belonging in the genre as low-budget and lacking in worthwhile stories or development. Others will simply say that they prefer not to be scared, and leave horror unexplored. Although scary movies are popular, they still sit on the fringe of mainstream filmmaking. Horror films rarely win prestigious awards. It’s a genre built for the masses; born in counterculture, and thriving in social deviance. Join us this week as we take a look at the history of horror cinema, from its birth through the 1940s. Hey Cassettes and welcome back to another episode of the BCD! This week, we’re doing something a little different. Marci and Robin are stepping out of their comfort zone, and allowing Adam to teach them about something completely new (to them): Bionicle! Created by Alastair Swinnerton, Bob Thompson, Martin Andersen, and Christian Faber, Bionicle was the toy franchise that lifted LEGO out of the red in the early 2000s. Happy New Year, Cassettes! Last year, we started the new year off with an episode about sequels. This year, we’re doing it again, but with a twist! Each of us picked a movie that flopped, bombed, and fizzled out into oblivion after their initial releases. Then, we all thought of the sequels that we would make to “save” those movies; a subsequent film that would give the franchise another chance! So welcome to 2021, and The Case of 2nd Chance Sequels! Happy Anniversary, Cassettes! Two years ago today, we released our first episode about the various versions of “A Christmas Carol.” Things were different back then, in podcasting and in life. Our only goal back then, was to make each episode better than the last. We still strive for that, putting as much work into the show as our schedules will allow. We love podcasting, and we’re incredibly blessed to have listeners like you. So, we’re closing out the month with an exciting episode about one of the biggest pieces of the Christmas season: Christmas Music! Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose, Yule-tide carols being sung by a choir--and Bing Crosby--and Mariah Carey--and literally every artist ever--yes, these are the signs that it’s Christmas! There are thousands of Christmas songs, but every year we tend to hear the same few, covered by different artists. Some of these compositions were written specifically for the screen, and made such an impact on audiences, that they became instant Christmas classics. So today, we are taking a look at the film and TV origins of popular Christmas songs! Here is a an accompanying playlist for this episode! Show notes and sources here Thanks for listening!

In the summer of 1985, Walt Disney studios released a sequel to one of Hollywood’s most iconic films. Except--it wasn’t really a sequel. There were some characters with the same names, and it was based on the same source material, but the setting and tone were completely different. The director of this new movie, Walter Murch, called it “dark” and “bleak,” and audiences would agree. Disney itself didn’t know how to market the movie, with a dreaded PG rating that was sure to keep parents from taking their children. Their biggest challenge was to shatter the expectations set by the original film, the brightly-colored musical, “The Wizard of Oz.” Come join us as we take a look at possibly the darkest and strangest Disney movie: Return to Oz! Welcome to week two of SNICK-tember! In the spring of 1991, even before SNICK existed, Nickelodeon premiered its first live-action show with a female lead. It starred (a fairly unknown) Melissa Joan Hart, and became a massive cable success, paving the way for many shows like it to follow. Clarissa Explains it All followed the lives of the Darling family, told from the perspective of young teenager, Clarissa. Tackling subjects like crushes, grades, and annoying siblings, the series struck a chord with young viewers and their families, and would go on to headline the SNICK line-up. So, if you’re wondering how this show came to be, don’t worry, we’re here to explain it all for you! Welcome to SNICK-tember! Each week will feature an episode on a SNICK TV show. The first one on our list? Ka-BlaM! Ka-BlaM! was billed as “A New Kind of Cartoon Show,” that featured a mixture of different shorts in a variety of mediums. It played as a video comic book, with the animated hosts Henry and June guiding you through the pages. Ka-BlaM was unlike any Nicktoon before it, a strange--yet hilarious--show that perfectly harnessed the magic of 90's Nickelodeon. Today we’re covering the history of this often-forgotten gem. Way back, in the ancient time of 2018, we started our podcast. Back then we were a different show. We did less research, almost no scripting, and we also had only one microphone. This was how we recorded our second episode: The Case of Second Chances. If you never listened to it, the three of us each brought a film that we believed deserved a second chance. This could mean two things: a movie we saw once and hated, but enjoyed the second time--OR a movie that was unpopular with critics and viewers, that we think deserves a second look. Well, that was a long time ago. So, we’re giving that episode a second chance with new equipment, new research skills, and new movies that deserve another watch! This week, we dove deep into the black case to bring you an episode about the history of film censorship and the current MPAA rating system! We all know the ratings well: G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17, Unrated, or not-yet-rated. But, where do these ratings come from, and how did they come to be? What do these ratings really mean in terms of what is or isn’t appropriate for specific audiences? Censorship is a big part of film history and the movie-making process. Although the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) does not censor films, many would argue that it is their ratings that determine the success of a film at the box office or whether a film will get marketed at all. The rating process is notoriously mysterious, and the people involved are generally anonymous. Because of this, many filmmakers have voiced their frustration with the process and the power that the ratings have over the film industry. Hello and thank you for joining us once again at The Black Case Diaries! Today, we’re taking a look at one of Jim Henson's most well-known and beloved creations: The Muppet Show. The Muppet show aired from 1976 to 1981, five seasons of perfect insanity and uninhibited joy. It followed Kermit, a hapless producer and host of a weekly variety show, and the rest of the Muppets as they put together a live performance with a special guest. The show followed back-stage hi jinks, and even included commentary from Statler and Waldorf, grumpy critics from the upper balcony. The show became more popular than anyone could have imagined, and the appeal of The Muppets continues today. So, it’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time to learn about the muppets on the BCD tonight! What makes a screwball comedy? Well, to get technical, screwball comedies began as a sub-genre of romantic comedy in the 1930’s. The term has become a little more broad over time, and movies that we consider to be screwball comedies today might not focus specifically on a love story, but have elements that still turn the classic romance on its head. Come join us as we discuss some famous comedy parodies (specifically of the Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker variety.) This episode we have a special guest! Welcome Back! This week for June Tunes, we decided to have a little fun and rank our top 10 Disney Villain songs! It’s undeniable that Disney music is an iconic element to the studio’s best animated films. Disney songs have permeated American (and sometimes world) pop culture throughout the last 70 years. Some songs are tender moments between characters while others are show-stopping power ballads that we belt out in our cars. Today, we’re taking a look at some of the most fun and interesting entries in the Disney songbook: The villain songs. These songs are incredibly important in terms of introducing the audience to the main antagonist, giving us a look into the mind and motivations of a character. A good villain song is fun to listen to and perform, and it brings (sometimes) much-needed depth to these intriguing characters! We’re bringing you a top 10 list of our favorite villainous tunes, with some background and history on each. Welcome to season 4 of The Black Case Diaries! We decided to return strong with our now annual series on movie music: June Tunes! This month we will be covering various topics all involving music in movies. Today we’re starting with an all-time favorite: The Blues Brothers! In the summer of 1980, a film that defied description raced into theaters. The Blues Brothers starred two big names from SNL, an all-star list of Rhythm and Blues legends, and one of the biggest budgets in comedy history. Even John Landis, the film’s director, wasn’t sure what genre the film belonged in. Is it a comedy? Musical? Forty years later, one thing is for certain: it’s a cult classic of epic proportions. Ride along with us as we talk the history of the band, SNL sketch, and the film. You will find show notes and links on our blog: https://www.blackcasediaries.com/blog Thanks for listening! Hey everyone and welcome back to the season 3 finale of The Black Case Diaries! Last week we wrapped up our series on Animation, and today we have decided to completely shift gears to discuss one of our favorite TV shows. In February of 2006, UK audiences were introduced to a new multi-camera sitcom created by Graham Linehan (co-creator of another popular sitcom, Father Ted) called The IT Crowd. It followed a young woman named Jen, a new hire at an ambiguous company. She is shocked to discover that she has been placed in the IT department, located in a cluttered space within the darkest depths of the building. There she meets Moss and Roy, two computer savvy nerds lacking in people skills. Join us as we talk about the making of the show and our favorite episodes! Welcome back to yet another week about animation! This week, we’re continuing our look at Stop-Motion with a studio that stands on its own as a leader in claymation. Since its founding in 2005, Laika has been making a name for itself among the animation elite. Though stop-motion is not the most popular or cost-effective form of animation, they continue to stun audiences with their technical mastery with each new film they produce. Last week we talked about Will Vinton, the father of “Clay-mation.” This week we are picking up with the end of his story and the beginning of Laika. Hey Cassettes! Welcome back to another episode about animation! This week we're covering the history and process of stop-motion! We all know that animation takes patience, but none so much as stop-motion animation. Animators spend years meticulously creating hand-built sets and characters, moving their pieces millimeters at a time for at least 24 frames every second so the audience can watch it all come to life. Today we are taking a look at one of the most beautiful and painstaking animation techniques, and how it’s been winning the hearts of audiences one frame at a time. In this episode we cover the history and evolution of stop-motion animation in film, but stop short because NEXT WEEK we will continue with stop-motion by covering one particular studio known for this type of animation. (We hope you LAIKA it) As always, you can find show notes and sources on our website and blog: https://www.blackcasediaries.com/blog

Welcome back to our month of Animation! This week we are going to focus on one particular studio that hopped into the animation world back in the mid-1980s, and completely changed the game. Since its first feature film in 1995, Pixar has been a symbol of animation excellence. Not only that, it became known for rich, original storytelling that engaged audiences while pulling on their heartstrings. Although Pixar has been owned by Disney since the mid-2000’s, for the most part it still stands on its own under the mouse-ear umbrella. Today we're taking you back to where it all began! Hey everyone, welcome back to our series on Animation! This week, we’re continuing to look at the development of other major animated film studios through the lens of The Disney Exodus; an event that took place over the course of a few decades, but ultimately occurred in the late-70's and early 80's, when animators left the studio to pursue other projects--taking their skills and ideas with them. When we say Exodus, we refer to a lot of people leaving the studio at once, and a lot of people did leave Disney! Love them or hate them, zombie movies have their place in cinematic history. These films featuring the living dead have been around as early as the 1930’s. Not long after that, however, a new genre appeared: The Zombie Comedy. In 2004, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg utilized the zombie concept and created Shaun of the Dead: a modern Zom-Rom-Com about an uninspired man leading an uneventful life until he’s faced with a zombie apocalypse. Shaun of the Dead became an instant classic, developing its own zombie-like following that has stayed strong for the last 16 years! So this week come join us at the Winchester where we will have a nice cold pint and discuss how Shaun of the Dead will never blow over. Starting with pioneering effects artists, the film industry has continued to amaze audiences by creating fantastic worlds and wondrous creatures that could only exist in the imagination. This week, we took a look at the history of film effects, and discussed the processes behind some of our favorite in-camera and practical effect techniques. We hope to revisit the topic again soon, and talk about the magic behind digital effects as well. Hey Cassettes! For this week's episode of BCD, we went back to our roots. Almost 7 years ago, we recorded together for the very first time. Back then, we planned on only discussing one movie a week and we didn't plan on focusing on film or TV history. After we recorded the episode, we didn't even edit it. We put it on Soundcloud and that's where it sat for 5 years until we finally decided to do this podcast thing for real. So, we decided to give ourselves a chance to do it over! Today we will talk about the same topic as we did 6 years ago: The Neverending Story (1984) As always, show notes and sources will be on our blog blackcasediaries.wordpress.com or our website https://www.blackcasediaries.com/ Thanks for listening!

Hey Cassettes, it’s 2020 and we have a clear vision of the year ahead! Welcome back to another episode of The Black Case Diaries Podcast. Today we are talking about movie sequels! On Twitter a while back, we asked people to name a sequel that they thought was better than the original. We got a lot of feedback and some really great ideas, so thank you! We are going to highlight some of these movies and discuss what it takes to make a great sequel, and whether or not a sequel is ever warranted. We created a list of criteria that will help us determine what makes a good sequel, with the help of some online sources. If you are interested, here are two articles that we found very helpful! https://screencraft.org/2015/10/02/the-ten-commandments-of-writing-a-great-sequel/ & https://www.writersdigest.com/online-editor/7-rules-writing-sequels For more information, visit us at https://www.blackcasediaries.com/ Thanks for listening!

When people told themselves their past with stories, explained their present with stories, foretold the future with stories, the best place by the fire was kept for... The Storyteller. In 1987, a TV show unlike any other premiered on NBC. It had a simple premise: an old man sits by the fireplace and tells his dog a story. The Storyteller starred John Hurt and Brian Henson (as Dog) and ran for only one season. Based on real folktales, it was a marriage of ancient tales and modern technology that featured creations from the Jim Henson Creature Shop. Join us by the fire this week as we talk about the history of this incredible show, along with some of our favorite episodes. We thought this would be a perfect episode to end season 2! We will be back releasing weekly episodes VERY soon. Until then, stay cool Cassettes! For more information, check out https://www.blackcasediaries.com/

It's Halloween, Cassettes! This year we got lucky, and Halloween landed on a Thursday! So, we're bringing you the best Disney Halloween episode we possibly can! Back in the early 1980s, The Wonderful World of Disney aired a Halloween special comprised of animated clips from some of their spookiest works. It was called, "Disney's Halloween Treat." The next year, Disney released a companion special called, "A Disney Halloween." Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, these specials ran on Disney during Halloween. They introduced a new generation of kids to classic Disney cartoons, villains, and silly symphonies. So tonight, we're going back in time to talk about this delightfully spooky gem! If you are unfamiliar with this special, we made a playlist of clips that it included. You can find it here OR head over to our blog where we've laid out all the pieces of this special and linked to videos! https://blackcasediaries.wordpress.com/ Thank you all SO MUCH for listening this month! We can't wait to dive into some new topics soon. Until then, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy Thursday, Cassettes! So far this October, we've covered witches, the boogeyman, and aliens. Now, we're talking about ghosts! Come join us for our second-to-last episode on A Disney Halloween, where we talk about the 1986 & 1987 Disney movies "Mr. Boogedy" and "Bride of Boogedy"! This lesser-known Disney film was many children's first experience with horror. It follows the Davis Family, as they move to Lucifer Falls and are immediately haunted by the malevolent spirit known as the Boogedy Man. This funny cult classic first aired on Disney's Sunday Movie (aka Wonderful World of Disney) and has since had a special place in the hearts of Disney fans everywhere. As always, our show notes and sources will be available on our blog! Visit https://www.blackcasediaries.com/ for more information. If you'd like to support our show, visit https://www.patreon.com/blackcasediaries See you next week for the last installment of A Disney Halloween!

Welcome to week three of A Disney Halloween! Back in the late 1970s, Walt Disney wanted to attract older audiences to their films. So, they attempted to cover more adult ideas and concepts. One of the results of this experiment was The Watcher in the Woods (1980)! Starring Bette Davis and Lynn Holly Johnson, this science fiction horror film delivers on chills (and a couple jump scares). This week, we talk about our experience with the movie, how it was made, its disastrous opening, and why we think everyone should give it a WATCH (ha, get it?) Remember, you can find out show notes at our blog: https://blackcasediaries.wordpress.com/ AND on our brand new website: https://www.blackcasediaries.com/ You can also find our drink of the week at: https://www.patreon.com/blackcasediaries

We've all been there. You're the new kid in school, because you skipped a grade. That's okay with you, you don't mind leaving childhood behind. Then, just as you're getting used to your new teachers and classmates, the Boogeyman frames you for vandalism, breaking and entering, and theft. No? That's never happened to you? What about suddenly seeing your younger brother's imaginary friend and everyone around you thinks you're insane? Oh, and don't forget all the PTSD you're suffering from since your baby brother was diagnosed with Leukemia and you weren't able to help him. I know what you're thinking, WHAT KIND OF A MOVIE IS THIS? Well, it's a Disney Channel Original Movie called "Don't Look Under the Bed." This layered film premiered in 1999 and it scared enough kids that Disney had to pull it from the channel. Do you remember it? Did it scare you? This week we went back to talk about this classic DCOM, how it was made, and our own imaginary friends. Happy Thursday, Cassettes! Since Disney introduced the first full-length animated film in 1937, the studio has been at the forefront of animation. But as time went on, more studios began getting attention for their classically animated works. When Disney animation fell into its dark age after the death of Walt Disney, animated films from other studios took the spotlight. Even when Disney was thriving during its Renaissance, these studios marched on and gave audiences alternative animated films with darker stories. This week we decided to look at the 2D animated classics that didn't come from the House of Mouse. In order to do this, we watched as many non-Disney classically animated films as possible and made a list of our top 10 favorite! In the interest of keeping the list to 10 movies, we decided to leave off Studio Ghibli films. We WILL do a Studio Ghibli episode at some point. Until then, here are our top 10 classically animated non-Disney, non-Studio Ghibli movies! Visit https://blackcasediaries.com/ or https://blackcasediaries.wordpress.com/ for our full show notes and sources! Thanks for listening!

So, grab some fish-fingers and custard and settle in, Whovians! As always, our show notes will be available at blackcasediaries.com and thank you for listening!

Hey Cassettes! This week we're taking you on an adventure in time and space. First, we'll take you to London in the 1960s, when the BBC started production of an all-new adventure series about a doctor from another world! Then, we'll travel through the decades and stop at 1996, when the network released Doctor Who the movie. But stay tuned! Next week we will dive even deeper into the lives of the show's "monsters," the making of the reboot, and the messages behind the show. We also intend to take a longer look at the original show as we compare it to the new one! So step into The Tardis with us and away we go! In 1985, the Canadian network CBC aired a two part mini series about a feisty red-headed orphan with an over active imagination. Her name was Anne (spelled with an E) and she lived in the fictional town of Avonlea, in a house with green gables. The series (or movie as it is also referred to) was based on the novel series Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Although there have been many adaptations of the classic story (Anne with an E for example), this version from 1985 is considered by many to be the best. Hangout with us as we discuss how the series came to be, our favorite moments, and why the world fell in love with Anne Shirley. Happy Thursday, Cassettes! Ever since the first movie based on a video game premiered in 1993, video game movies have been notoriously awful. If we asked you to come up with a "good" video game movie, what comes to mind? This week we invited Robin's husband Jacob back to discuss why these movies have such a hard time finding success with audiences and critics, and what should studios do to correct the problem. Although we were missing one of our hosts this week, we decided to record a bonus episode! We will provide you with some videos and links for this episode, so check out https://blackcasediaries.com/ for those! We debunk a lot of myths in this episode, but we want to remind you that we're not the authority on such matters. You can believe what you want to believe! Hey there, Marshmallows! This week, we decided to do something new for our episode. Because we're talking about our favorite teen private investigator, we thought we might try our hand at recording an audio drama! Spoilers: it did not go well. So instead, we recorded a small short for the beginning of this episode, followed by an hour of our unscripted regular show. This week we talked about Veronica Mars, the teen detective from Neptune, CA. We discussed the old show, why it was cancelled, and some of our favorite characters. This episode is a great way to freshen up your memory before the season four premier later this month! For this week's episode, we traveled back to the mid-90s to talk about our favorite children's sketch comedy show. Premiering in 1994, All That was a staple on the SNICK line-up. It's the final episode of June Tunes and we decided to focus on dance movies of the 1980s! You'll notice, however, that we also included Saturday Night Fever in this episode even though it came out in 1977. We felt like we couldn't talk about dance films without at least mentioning the iconic movie that essentially created a genre of film. This episode is more relaxed than our previous music episodes, as we share our thoughts on a small list of famous dance movies! We thought this might be a fun way to close out the month of June. Hey there, Cassettes! If we were to ask you, "Who is the hero of Die Hard?" You would have to say John McClane. What about The Princess Bride? Why, Westley and Princess Buttercup of course. Well sure, they're the OBVIOUS heroes. But what about the people on the side? Who are the heroes in the background? Every once in a while, the outcome of a movie hinges on the presence of one character; and sometimes that character gets overlooked. This week, we discuss the idea of an Unsung Hero in movies. We name some of our favorites, try (and sometimes fail) at finding examples in certain films, and question whether every movie has one. When we think of a Disney Animated Classic, the same movies tend to come to mind (for example, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and Aladdin.) With as many as 57 movies that fit this category, it's only natural that some films will fall to the wayside. This week, we ranked our favorite somewhat-forgotten Disney Animated classics. We didn't choose the MOST forgotten, just our favorites that tend to be less popular. For more information, please visit us at: https://blackcasediaries.wordpress.com/ As always, thanks for listening! Don't forget to subscribe and feel free to leave us a review!

Premiering in Canada on October 31st 1990, "Are You Afraid of the Dark" was a horror anthology series for children created by DJ MacHale. It aired on Nickelodeon until 1996 (before a soft reboot in 1999) and followed a group of kids that gathered once a week to tell stories. They referred to themselves as "The Midnight Society." With stories that ranged from terrifying to downright silly, this show was a fan favorite on the SNICK line-up. This week we discuss this 90s classic and our hopes for the upcoming film set to release this October. Visit us at: Blackcasediaries.wordpress.com for more info! As always, thanks for listening!

The Super Bowl is the biggest night in American sports. People all over the country gather to watch and eat junk food as two teams battle for the recognition of being the year's best team in American Football. This year, we didn't tune in so much to watch the game, but more to watch the commercials, the Toy Story 4 sneak peak, and above all, an ultimately disappointing halftime show. We like to use our "brief case" episodes as a chance to discuss more current events. For more information on this episode, visit us at: blackcasediaries.wordpress.com

Join us this week as we discuss movie music! In preparation for this episode, Robin created a playlist of film music for Adam and Marci to listen to. You can find the list (along with some other examples) Here: https://bit.ly/2U1ufqQ We covered a lot of ground in this episode because it is such a broad topic. You know what they say, "If it ain't broke, remake it!" At least, that's how we think the saying goes. From Fuller House to Kim Possible, remakes are the biggest thing around. Studios have learned that just because nostalgia is priceless, it doesn't mean they can't make serious cash from it; and Disney is no exception. Today's episode is about movies that deserve a second chance. We've all seen movies that we don't enjoy and will likely never watch again. But, sometimes we get a second chance to see a movie, and for whatever reason, it was better this time around. What about movies that we enjoy, but no one else seems to? Can you think of a movie that got mixed or bad reviews and you didn't understand why? For today's episode, we each chose a movie that we feel might deserve a second viewing. We could have chosen a movie we didn't like the first time around, or an unpopular movie that we enjoy. This movie was adapted from The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, and The Wide Window. **We were not intending to compare the movie to the TV show. Where the movie succeeded, the show did as well in almost every case. It's our opinion that the show is a fantastic adaptation that covers the source material bet
