Here is George “Bud” Studor who grew up in upstate NY and went to the zoo as a wrestler. He wrestled all four years and graduated with a degree in Astro. In the USAF he flew C-130s pretty much everywhere most notably Europe, Greenland, and Korea. A chance meeting with a family friend who was also an astronaut got him a slot at AFIT where he earned his MS in Astro. He then took jobs at NASA in TX while on active duty. He also taught at USAFA, earned his PHd at Montana State and upon leaving the USAF went full time to NASA for 30 years. He ended his NASA career for a proper family reason and consults now.

Jim Glass and I attended Prattville Jr HS in the late 60’s and share some overlapping impressions of those times. Jim went from HS to Marion Military Academy prior to USAFA, was thinking of leaving USAFA 3rd class year and got detoured for a solid reason, became a cadet Falconer, graduated and served his commitment in the USAF. He then felt the calling to serve in a higher way and went off to earn his Master’s and PHD in divinity which led to his becoming a pastor. After being away from the Air Force for 16 years he applied and returned as a chaplain which he constituted to do till full retirement 40 years after graduation! A key assignment was at USAFA in the Center for Character Development.

Here is the story of Scott Gough. AF brat who maintained a waiver throughout his cadet and flying days to successfully fly in the USAF & UAL. There are two stories he wanted me to edit out that I thought were ok to leave in so enjoy. Scott was on the Dean and Sup list often but also enjoyed a CDB with tours, another humbling cadet story. His initial flying was in T-33’s where he overcame an interesting challenge. He also flew F-106 ‘s out of Castle AFB and OV-10’s in Korea. He returned from Korea and eventually became a National Defense Fellow and Pacific Planner in the Pentagon, finishing up his USAF career as an advisor with the ANG. Upon retiring from active duty he embarked on a long and successful career with UAL. Most recently he was a key participant in the rebirth of the Air Gardens.

His PHD in history from Indiana U led him away from the cockpit eventually as did several assignments and papers at the Pentagon. He also graduated with distinction from the Naval War College where he teaches today. Larry has a great sense of humor and is proud of his CS - 21 classmates who also excelled academically winning top academic squadron all three of his upper class years at the zoo. The Anchor app I use to record and edit these chats is going away. So I am working with the AOG on new tools and how to keep the show going. Yep, old dog needs to learn new tricks. Anyone else expect a train wreck? This episode I want to provide the series' backstory and update on what our new grad (Class of 24) is off to do. I shared the backstory with a Rwandan Grad, Class of 14. We had to do all our comms via recording since pre-calls weren't available. We had his episode up for a year but he got some promotions and was asked to take it down since he overshared some stories. It is all good now..and why I let every grad edit their episode as much as necessary.

Also spent a tour at USAFA as commander of 34th flight ops. USAF base assignments included: Columbus, Kadena, Seymour-Johnson, Maxwell, Pentagon, USAFA, and Naples, IT. Three post grad degrees included one as a Harvard Fellow. Became a squadron and wing commander and finished out his AF career at the Pentagon in ops and plans. Chris grew up an AF brat mostly in the No Va area and was recruited for AFA lacrosse (among other schools). He lettered all four years at AFA but also found himself with an interesting story of 80-80-6 (that's tours, demerits, and months restriction) with an additional 20 tours earned during his 3 degree year. Whew! After his 2 degree year started he lost his pilot qual, which has happened to many of us... He started at AFA upon graduation working for the lacrosse program and fighting to get his pilot slot back- and ended up entering the world of USAF maintenance. That turned out ok since his wife, Jannell - also a 98 grad and on another episode in the series- got her pilot wings and they were able to get stationed close enough to each other over the years to stay together and raise kids through thick and thin. Chris had assignments in Germany and NC as he climbed the maintenance career ladder reaching commander status in 2009. Then it was off to the Pentagon where he excelled in strategy roles on the Israel/Palestine, then Levant, then Iran desks leading to a stint at the Brookings Institute. Steve was a CS-36 Squadron Commander our Firstie year, lead the mass procurement event of Trans AM's our 2nd Class year, became an F-15 pilot in PACAF and left Active Duty for American Airlines where he flew for over 30 years. Now Steve occupies his time working with all types of railroads. He has great stories about skiing, flight physicals, and being a Pink.

This episode is with Steve Odiorne. Steve and I were doolies together in the harsh CS-15 and enjoyed two years as Pink Panthers before he was transferred to CS-38 for Fristie year. Steve was also a cadet in the Drum and Bugle Corps, flew T-33 and F-106's in Air Defense Command and spent over 30 years with Lockheed in their Space Systems group as an operator for several NASA missions to Venus, Mars, and the Moon.

This special episode you meet Jennifer Frye. Nope, she wasn't a grad, but did marry one of our classmates, Steve, who was her sweetheart from 6th Grade. This triggered Jennifer to move to C Springs and become the unofficial "den Mother" for us Pinks. She had a car, an apartment, and girlfriends downtown. I hope you enjoy another side of the Pink Panthers and an AF career.

This episode is with with Steve Frye, Retired USAF Colonel but, most importantly, husband of Jennifer. Steve fills in the mystery of why Rich Polemy left the squadron after only a couple of months (they were doolies together). After UPT and initial IP assignment he selected the life of a C-141 pilot. Across his long career on active duty Steve covered roles as Air University Prof, Vice Commander of AF training and was groomed for higher levels of command. A family situation triggered his retirement from active duty but Steve has continued to serve as a director in Government Service through this recording in 2021.

This episode you meet Jim Fisher, retired AF Major, RF-4 and F-16 Pilot, and long-time national security professional. While a cadet he hosted and, after graduation, visited Francois Pierre, a French foreign exchange cadet. Jim stays away from social media so he is a tough one to track down. I think you will agree, it was worth the effort.

This episode you meet the incomparable Dr/Col (Col/DR?) Pete Mapes. As a cadet Pete created a famous fife and drum and flag trio that got to travel and was photographed often during the bicentennial of 1976. On active duty Pete won many awards and was the only person to accomplish both a prestigious flying and medical award in the same year. He is now a leader of aviation Scouts in Michigan and still flying. There are several acronyms here, but that is our Pete!

This episode you meet Dr. John Dedic, USAF flight surgeon and radiologist. As a cadet John sang in the Cadet Chorale and boxed in the Wing Open Championship heavyweight bout. John grew up in a small town in Iowa and met the challenges of the academy with great success. Upon graduation he went directly to medical school at Tulane and since it was only a short drive from Pensacola we traded some fun weekends while I was in flight training.

This special length episode is with USAF (Ret) Major General Tony Przybyslawski. Tony and I initially share tales of academic woe at USAFA which he successfully turned into a fabulous AF career that spanned his time as an enlisted airman, prep school student, cadet on the hill, pilot of various bombers (B-52, B-1B, and B-2) and his spectacular climb to Major General. He is also the only Pink of 76 with a daughter who is also a grad.

This episode is with Lee Cuevas. Lee grew up in the midwest and after high school entered an AFROTC program at the University of Illinois. From there he got a high draft number, enlisted in the USAF, attended the Prep School and eventually USAFA. On active duty Lee was a C-130 pilot stationed in Europe and Asia as well as Arizona. He piloted 757 and 767 aircraft for a full career with UPS and now just races Porches in retirement. He is quite the guy and leader.

Jim Fagan: wry, dry, funny, and extremely independent. Famous to me for his wisecracks that have 50 year staying power as well as our mutual struggles at the academy. Retired USAF Major, pilot, teacher, father, and grandfather. Flew T-33's to tankers to B-52's (in formation, through mountainous terrain, AT NIGHT!) and lived to share these stories.

"Trot" is one of the smoothest, calmest, most determined people you will ever meet. Originally from Canada, then Oregon, he became an AF test pilot and followed up with a long, successful career at a Delta Airline pilot.

This is the Pat Murray episode, our non-grad, pink-for-life classmate. He flew all kinds of aircraft from seaplanes, to commercial passenger aircraft to medivac flights. Pat achieved many goals, just not via traditional routes. He is one of my favorite classmates and we had some fun adventures together.

Greg Lewis, son of an Air Force General Officer, Prep School grad, National Champion Parachutist, A-10 pilot with one silk landing, F-16 combat pilot with another silk landing and civilian career as a Southwest Airlines pilot (no silk landings!). Greg was another of the eager classmates when it came to antics and stories.

This episode you hear from LT Col (RET) Nat Millican, world traveler as Air Force cargo and tanker pilot followed by a career as a UPS cargo pilot, & world traveler, who is now training leaders in the field of missionary work worldwide. Today you meet Tom Wyman, my final roommate at the academy who, while in the USAFA Choir, lost his pilot qual our final semester and served initially in missiles. But as the sly, tough, determined person he is he eventually became a pilot and completed a successful AF career retiring as a LT Col. He then served another full career in the Strategic Command HQ as a research analyst which is all we can say about that!
S1 E8 · Sat, September 18, 2021
This episode is with Mike Woodman, one of the squadron's better natural athletes with solid academics. Woody retired as LT Colonel and followed up his AF flying career with one as an SWA pilot for over another 20 years.

Lt Col (Ret) Roger Kontak -- cadet Falconer, fantastic skier, participant in hilarious motivational skits as Col Dumbsquat, and USAF and commercial pilot.

LT Col Paul Prange flew over 5000 fighter hours in the Air Force, was an AFA basketball player, outdoor enthusiast, and creator of one of the memorable pranks in our squadron.
S1 E3 · Sun, August 22, 2021
This episode is with Mike Byron, outstanding as a cadet soaring leader and honor rep, and afterwards as a wonderful father and airline pilot. One of the smart guys in our squadron who helped raise my grades to above water.
S1 E2 · Sun, August 22, 2021
This episode contains tales of travels with my favorite travel buddy, Ky Webb, and his achievements (Including Sup’s list—both of them) and struggles as a cadet. There are a few technical slip-ups but hang in there, this is a worthwhile episode.
