Nick Martell and Jack Kramer met in college in Middlebury, Vermont -- they became fast friends and eventually business partners -- launching a business newsletter called Market Snacks that eventually went on to become a daily podcast acquired by stock trading app Robinhood. Both Colin and I have been huge fans of the show for years. We're very inspired not only by how these two tell stories via audio but how good they are at building a true community and including their audience in the show. They make complex stories from the business world accessible and relatable, which is something Colin and I try and do as well. Recently Nick and Jack left Robinhood but kept their podcast under a new name "The Best One Yet". You'll find out why that's the name later on in the episode. After Nick and Jack went independent they reached out to Colin and I to help them build a video version of their show on YouTube. This is part one of a two-part series with Nick and Jack...in this first episode you'll hear how they'll built their wildly successful newsletter and podcast, and in part two you'll get to hear us troubleshoot the problems their facing in a special edition of Creator Support. That episode will come out on Thursday. Alright, hope you enjoy this episode of The Colin and Samir show with Nick and Jack. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast we’re joined by Joe Albanese - Joe is the founder and CEO of Stir, a company that’s building tools & software that help creators run their businesses. Joe and his team have been making quite a few headlines this year to name a few - they’ve raised $4M dollars in funding for this project from firms like Ludlow ventures and creators like Casey Neistat, Joe was recently named to Forbes 30 under 30 list, and they’ve been trending multiple times for releasing a number of one-off “drops” such as Presubscribe.me which helps creators understand how many people who pay for their content, or OnlyTweets which creates a paywall protected twitter account for creators. On this episode we talk to Joe about his journey into the creator world, how we went from the founding team at YikYak to the product team at Facebook and then eventually why he took the jump to leave his stable job and pursue building Stir. Watch the video version of this podcast: https://youtu.be/kzBU9gEHx_M Check out our Online Storytelling Course: https://moment.8ocm68.net/keM6z Eric Decker aka Airrack started uploading to YouTube in January 2020. He started this year with 50 YouTube subscribers and today he has over 500,000. He’s had explosive growth this year and his mission is to get to 1M youtube subscribers - in order to get there he’s had to do some pretty crazy things including taking out a $17,000 loan to pay for one video. He’s one of the most committed creators we’ve come across and we definitely feel like he has what it takes to get to 1M subs and probably even further than that - and once you hear this episode I think you’ll agree with us on that as well. This week, on the Colin and Samir Podcast, we’re joined by Danny Casale aka Coolman Coffeedan . Now we actually recorded this episode a few weeks ago and we are working on a YouTube video with Danny, but felt like right now was a good time to release it because Danny’s story is extremely inspiring and he built a lot of his career from his bedroom...which is where a lot of us are spending most of our time now. Danny is a NYC based artist who has gained popularity through his surreal, and poorly-drawn animations. He calls himself a Bad animator, but his bad animations have made there way on to the big screens at times square… he’s got 2M subscribers on YouTube, 2 Million on Instagram 1.5 Million followers on Facebook and another 1.3 Million on Tiktok, so clearly his animations connect with a lot of people. He recently released an album on Spotify Although he’s been uploading to Youtube for over 10 years for His style first took off in 2017 when he released an animation titled Snakes have Legs, which was basically a PSA for people to stop believing everything they read on the internet. The video has over 10 million views on Danny’s facebook and has been shared all over the internet. Spending the day with Danny was awesome, he’s a big inspiration to us, his message is strong and his style is so relatable. I would recommend checking him out on instagram before you listen to this so you can get a feel for his style, he even recently put out a song about washing your hands. We met Danny earlier this year at Samsung Unpacked and we quickly bonded over our mutual love of emo music… so if you’re into that too, tweet at us @colinandsamir Learn more about your ad choices. This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast I’m joined by Thomas Dajer. Thomas is the lead editor for the YouTube Channel, Yes Theory - we’ve had him on the show before to talk the what goes on behind the scenes of Yes Theory and how they craft their stories that reach millions of people. This week, we’re talking about something different, Thomas competed in one of Mr. Beasts challenges - now if you are unfamiliar with Mr. Beast, he’s a creator with over 32 million subscribers - he does these big social experiments that often times end with some sort of cash prize. Thomas not only competed in the video but also Won (and he won $70,000...) We spend the first 20 minutes of the episode talking about the making of that video - so If you haven’t seen it yet - watch Yes Theory’s version on their channel and then listen to the podcast - it’ll make more sense once you’ve watched the video, We also talk about Thomas’ trip through Europe, his modeling career, his on-camera appearances and his efforts to expand his identity, it’s a really interesting conversation that we had a lot of fun having. This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast, we’re joined by Yes Theory’s head editor, Thomas Dajer. We talk about the ups and downs of what it’s like to be a full time editor, and TD has been editing full time for 4 years now. In those 4 years, Yes Theory has built an audience of over 4 million subscribers and TD has edited videos that have gotten over 416M views on YouTube Alone, including a number of videos that have over 10M views. Editing is one of the most important crafts in filmmaking, especially on youtube - it’s where the story comes together, and it’s what separates the good channels from the great ones. Some creators take on the edits themselves and some bring on others to help tell their stories - the bottom line is, without editing, films don’t get made. Editing is also where a lot of creators tend to burn out - long hours, not much sleep, creative roadblocks, software problems, the list goes on. Earlier this year we worked with TD on a documentary for Yes Theory’s channel called “Frozen Alive” and during that time we connected on our love hate relationship with the craft of editing and that’s a big part of what we explore on the show today. We also cover ton of other topics such as personal fulfillment, time and relationship management as a creator and how it feels to be the guy behind the guys. Learn more about your ad choices. We first met Paul back in 2014 when we created a partnership with him to start a YouTube channel. Over the course of the past 5 years, we’ve created hundreds of videos together, amassed a subscriber base of over 160,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel and created an award winning docu-series - most importantly we’ve developed a strong friendship. Paul has been a great mentor to us throughout our Journey, he continues to inspire us with his creativity and ambition and we just couldn’t be more excited to bring you this conversation with our friend Paul Rabil. This week on The Colin and Samir Podcast we talk about realizing our dream of making a movie. We’ve had this dream for a while and we’ve talked about it quite a bit, we’ve always wanted to make a documentary, screen it in front of people and then have millions of people watch it….and all of that happened, within a week. Here's the link to the film: https://youtu.be/8cvhwquPqJ0 On this episode we talk about how it happened, how we felt during the process and how it feels now to reflect back on realizing a dream of ours. Alright so this episodes opens up in Colins apartment as we reflect on making our first movie. We're incredibly grateful to the boys from Yes Theory, everyone who came to the premiere and to everyone who has watched the film so far - we are so excited about the response and can’t wait to make our next film. Some big takeaways from this experience - be present in the moment, a lot of times if you put your mind to It, your dreams will come true - but not exactly how you thought they would, or when you thought they would - they might look completely different from how you imagined them, but it’s important to try and recognize when they actually might be happening. Make sure to review the pod, like I mentioned, we are now on Anchor which means you can send us a voice message, we’d love to try that feature out and see what kind of voice messages we get from you guys. Check out Houston here: https://www.houstonkraft.com/ This week on the Colin and Samir podcast we’re joined by a very unique guest. His name is Houston Kraft and he’s a storyteller and kindness advocate. Houston uses his storytelling abilities to spread stories about empathy kindness and love all with the goal of giving people the tools to practice more of those emotions in their day to day lives We wanted to bring you this conversation during the week of Valentine's day, a week where we hear a lot of about love of a specific kind - but there are actually many different varieties of love and empathy I believe that empathy is one of the most important emotions to exercise if you are trying to connect with others, whether that’s through business, through content, or just through communication. Houston tells us his story and we talk about the concept of love and kindness. He’s a great storyteller and he ends this podcast on one of the more powerful stories I’ve heard from him. This week on the Colin and Samir podcast we talk about a day that we never expected would come. We recorded this episode on Colin’s 30th birthday. Colin and I met when we were 22 and have been working together ever since. Our twenties were filled with experimentation, successes, failures and a lot of adventures along the way. On this episode, we reflect on the past 10 years, the work we’ve done together and the decisions that defined the decade for Colin. There were a few unexpected moments in the episode - we had a brief weather interruption and a phone call from Colin's mom that we recorded, and decided to include an abridged version towards the end of the episode. On this episode of The Colin and Samir Podcast, we take a look back at the past year of our lives…and this has been a year of a lot of ups and downs. Colin and I both wrote down some amazing moments from the year prior to the podcast and I think we both expected this episode to be filled with a lot of fun stories about those memories, and we absolutely touch of a lot of those, but we also dive into the uncertainty we felt during the year. The conversation takes some twists and turns that we didn’t know it was going to take, but I guess that’s fitting because it is similar to the way our year went...filled with unexpected twists and turns. So if you’ve been following us all year or if you’re just starting to tune in, I think you’ll really enjoy this reflection into the past year of our lives and our careers. He graduated from UCLA law school and ended up becoming a lawyer at a very prestigious firm, but once he got there, he started questioning if it was really how he wanted to spend his time - which led him to find very powerful creativity inside of himself. This week Colin and I talk about a recent experience that turned out to be one of the most nerve-wracking experiences we’ve had in a while. It all revolves around a pitch for our show The Breakdown - and we’ll get into more specifics about the opportunity and the experience in the episode itself. This podcast recording was actually the first time Colin and I talked about the experience and it led to a lot of interesting topics in our conversation. We talk about how each of us felt before, during and after the pitch experience, we talk about the concept of comparison and imposter syndrome and we even talk about morning routines and how we each try and set ourselves us for success in the mornings. This is probably one of our most revealing podcasts - I think even we were surprised about where the conversation went. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week on the Colin and Samir podcast, we take a look at ourselves and more specifically, we take a look at our lifestyle and how the work we’re doing everyday is leading us towards a life we want to live. As we started thinking about this topic I wrote down a bunch of questions to ask myself and eventually turned it into a worksheet that I printed out for both Colin and I to fill out and answer on our own. After we answered them, we got together and reviewed our answers and In this podcast, we go over our answers and talk about what we learned by doing this exercise. This week on the Colin and Samir podcast we ask ourselves one question - Why? Why do we do what we do every day? This conversation was inspired by a Ted Talk from Simon Sinek called Start with Why . We have been doing a lot of thinking around our purpose as creatives and trying to better understand our own personal reasons why we want to make videos for a living. In this episode, we record an open and honest conversation about our choice to work together and take on a challenging and time-intensive career path. I’m sure some of you have listened to Simon Sinek’s Ted Talk, but if you haven’t, definitely look it up on youtube - just type in Start with Why and it will come it - watch the 18 minute video, Colin and I liked it so much that we both ended up buying his book, Start with Why. Braxton is a filmmaker and YouTuber based in Oregon, he has a long history of working in entertainment, more specifically in television. This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast, we are really excited to have our good friend Kyle Harrison joining us. Kyle is a professional lacrosse player that Colin and I both looked up to when we were young lacrosse players. As most of you probably know, Colin and I both grew up playing lacrosse - and as we grew our first company, The Lacrosse Network, we actually got to make videos with Kyle and through that process, we became close friends. Something really interesting about our relationship is that Kyle was the catalyst to get us into vlogging. We cover a bunch of topics on this episode including how to manage your content as a professional athlete, How to build trust with someone you want to film (like we did with Kyle), balancing family life and brand building, Lebron vs MJ and Race issues in the sport of lacrosse. Now in this episode we definitely dive into some topics that are specific to lacrosse, but even if you’re not familiar with the sport I still think this conversation is valuable to anyone who is interested in content creation and brand building - Athletes have always fascinated us with their ability to build long-lasting brands and Kyle is someone who has been building his brand since before the age of social media.
