As part of my ongoing exercise in trimming and pruning my life, I spent the last 2 weeks prayerfully thinking about and writing down a Pro's and Con's list of the 18 things that I have been doing for work. That process helped me narrow my work-life down to 5 main areas of focus. And, I balance them with 1 main area of focus personally. I share it all in this 3rd-to-last episode of the Courage Cast before my long 5-month planned hiatus.

Author, Joshua Medcalf recently posted this on Twitter ... "None of us are getting out of here alive. The purpose of life is not to arrive safely at death or accrue the most titles, trophies, and treasures. Live from a death bed perspective. Be relentless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire." Here's my response to this. I'm curious, what would you be, do or have if you had a death bed perspective? "Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit." - John 15:2 How many of you have clutter in your life? How many of you are frustrated with areas of your life that just don't seem to working for you anymore? This is about you - your disciplines, processes, systems in your life and how you can improve them by taking inventory of your life and identifying areas of waste, disorganization, fat or inefficiencies. Then, come up with a plan to systematically remove these from your life, so you can experience greater freedom and margin in your life to be the best version of you possible!

Today, I share a devotional message from a devotional book I read every morning called The Book of Mysteries by Jonathan Cahn (NYTimes Bestseller of the book The Harbinger ). Every day for an entire year, an imaginary teacher gives his student daily ancient lessons taught for thousands of years in Jewish tradition. This is the basic premise of the book. Jonathan Cahn mixes old testament and new testament lessons leading the reader to deeper insights into the teachings of Jesus and how it relates to their life today. Every devotional entry is interesting, but this one had a more profound impact on me. This one is called THE TENT WORLD (Day 50). Let me know, by messaging me on Twitter , if you want to hear more messages like this from me in the future.

Over the years, I've heard my boys call certain kids in school or on the sports fields "Try Hards". I guess it's a term used for people that seem to be trying extra hard to win or succeed. In some ways, I kind of feel sorry for those kids...because it's actually a really good thing to want to do well and succeed. But, on the other hand, I get their point. Try Hards are over-the-top where it becomes annoying. As I was preparing this message, I wondered if I have been a closet "Try Hard" all my life. Haha. Anyway, here's my message for today. I am trying too hard to do too many things for too many people too much of the time. And, instead what I've been learning is that I actually experience more success when I do this... (you'll have to listen to the episode to find out what that is). You're probably saying to yourself...typical TRY HARD thing to do. Haha. As always, I hope this message inspires and awakens something new in you! - Eric

Phil Mickelson shocked the golf world by winning the 103rd PGA Championship (one of the 4 major golf tournaments of the year) last week. He turns 51 in June...and no one that old has ever won a major golf tournament. Many have noticed he is a much calmer, more patient golfer than he's ever been. Something was different about Phil. It turns out Mickelson has been practicing relaxation, meditation and visualization techniques these last 2-3 years. I thought it would be interesting to look at what he implemented in his golf game and look at how we can apply it to our game in real life. After all, it is called the game of life for a reason. Why not work towards mastering our game by applying what Phil has to our lives as well! Here's a summary of what we can learn from Phil Mickelson's victory in our personal and work life: Proper preparation starts with a powerful mindset Select the club you can swing For the next shot, make it the best routine of the day If you don't see it, you cannot create it Make a complete swing Link to the PGA.com article mentioned in the podcast.

There's a big difference in how we can approach others and have success. The first way is to want something from someone else. This is coming to the person from a position of needing something from the person. The second, more powerful position is coming to a person seeking to provide value, seeking to give something because I'm already full of worth and value already. Which do you think is the more healthy position to be in? Thanks to Tasha Smith for the inspiration behind this post. When you make an assumption, you tell yourself that something is true without actually having any evidence that it is. It's all too easy to lead your life never questioning that you are assuming things to be facts. In today's podcast episode, I discuss what I've been learning about assumptions. I learned they are not all bad - that we are actually wired to make assumptions. But, it can be very harmful to us when we assume. ADVENTURE - over the last month, that word -‘adventure’- keeps coming up in conversations I have, in sermons I hear, in podcasts I listen to, and in books I read. When I hear something over and over again, I know it’s something I need to pay attention to. ⠀ ⠀ How about you? What resonates with you as you read this? What adventures are you taking with God? Where in your life can you be more of an open vessel - living with an open heart, an open mind, so you can contain the infinity of God? It’s such a mystery - but it’s an adventure!⠀

Before he died, a father said to his son; “Here is a watch that your grandfather gave me. It is almost 200 years old. Before I give it to you, go to the jewelry store downtown. Tell them that I want to sell it, and see how much they offer you.” ⠀ ⠀ The son went to the jewelry store, came back to his father, and said; "They offered $150.00 because it's so old.” ⠀ ⠀ The father said; “Go to the pawnshop." The son went to the pawnshop, came back to his father, and said; "The pawnshop offered $10.00 because it looks so worn.” ⠀ ⠀ The father asked his son to go to the museum and show them the watch. He went to the museum, came back, and said to his father; “The curator offered $500,000.00 for this very rare piece to be included in their precious antique collections.” ⠀ ⠀ The father said; “I wanted to let you know that the right place values you in the right way. Don't find yourself in the wrong place and get angry if you are not valued. Those that know your value are those who appreciate you, don't stay in a place where nobody sees your value.” ⠀ Scriptures to meditate on: Psalm 139 Matthew 6 Romans 5 Ephesians 2

There can be no doubt, in our world and in our nation, we are experiencing one of the most unprecedented times of testing in our history . Much of it we have no real control over. So, I suggest we take a look at this season as an opportunity to get better. It is an opportunity to take an honest inventory of our lives. Where are we strong and where are we weak? What are we made of? Take these next 8 weeks to allow your weaknesses and strengths to reveal themselves. Financially - How are your savings? How are your investments? Spiritually - Where are you putting your trust? Mentally and emotionally - How is your thought life? What emotions are coming up? In our relationships - We're going to be spending a lot more time together. What does this time reveal about the strength of our relationships? Can we use this as an opportunity to make our relationships stronger? In our work - Are you hauling buckets - trading time for money? Do you have multiple streams of income for added protection and security? How dependent are you on your work? Physically - How healthy are you? How strong is your immune system? We've been through something similar before - as a country and a nation. We can still remember 2008/2009 when the recession hit - it was an opportunity to see what we were made of. And, for most of us, we are better for it today! And, you will be too, if you allow the process to happen! James 1:2-4 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. Job 23:10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold. A few days ago, I posted a quote from Joshua Medcalf : "Everyone wants to be great until it's time to do what greatness requires." To which I asked the question: "What does greatness require?" And I received some really inspiring answers. I decided to do some more research on this topic as I was curious about what greatness really required. I want to be great - we all do. But, I, like you, sometimes don't feel like doing what greatness requires. And, I guess that's what makes the difference between great and good. And I found out in my research that it's actually a v-a-s-t distance. Listen to this episode and hear where I landed on this topic of GREATNESS and what it really requires! College freshmen are lectured about networking on their first day of class. Young professionals race to another boring party so they can be seen and shake hands with someone that might be able to help them - just like the business books and podcasts have instructed. Creatives are chronically obsessed with and depressed by the number of likes, views, and followers on their social media. Anyone embarking upon a new path or business venture has heard the key to success lies in networking - who you know, and how they can get you ahead. But, according to Mark Maxwell , this is not only untrue but potentially dangerous to those hoping to succeed. In his book, Networking Kills , Mark lays out what the Bible and Jesus say about true success. Weaving scripture with his own stories from his professional career and pop culture illustrations Networking Kills examines the need for cultural change concerning our pursuit and definition of "success" in every area of life and shows how serving is actually the key. "Christ taught, 'If you want to be great, you must become a servant'," Maxwell says. "And, Martin Luther King, Jr. made it clear, 'Anybody can be great, because anybody can serve'. Even music business super-manager, Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber) says, 'Don't live for yourself... Live for others ... that is where you will find true riches in life.' The heart of networking is rooted in selfishness (taking and using) while the great leaders teach us that true success comes through giving, loving others and serving generously." My wife, Krissy Nordhoff , joins me this week to share an encouraging word with me. What she shares with me has so much value for me in my life. It has to do with the verse in John 21:17 which says: The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep." Take the 7-Day Living Your Most Courageous Life Challenge now! The Courageous Community exists to encourage one another so that more will believe. Encouragement builds belief. Belief makes the impossible, possible. Mark 10:27 - "with God all things are possible."

“Fear is an illusion we can become wrongly convinced is a reality. Faith is a reality we can become wrongly convinced is an illusion.” - Robert Noland . Psalm 34:4-5 says “ I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.” . All who fear can find joy in the Lord today! 👊🏻 That’s good news!! Get The Sword and Shield - 40 Day Devotional For Men.

I'm reading a book currently called BURN YOUR GOALS by Joshua Medcalf and Jamie Gilbert. One of the chapters discusses a new way of looking at fear. Seeing fear as a signal and embraced as a blessing can help you to face it rather than avoid it.

I share an email I'm sending out as part of the marketing of Krissy's Worship Songwriter Mentorship Course and how it's generating a polarizing response. This leads me to discuss the idea of principles vs. feelings. Inspiration comes from the book Chop Wood, Carry Water by Joshua Medcalf.

Now, this is the goal: to live in harmony with one another and demonstrate affectionate love, sympathy, and kindness toward other believers. Let humility describe who you are as you dearly love one another. Never retaliate when someone treats you wrongly, nor insult those who insult you, but instead, respond by speaking a blessing over them—because a blessing is what God promised to give you. For the Scriptures tell us: Whoever wants to embrace true life and find beauty in each day must stop speaking evil, hurtful words and never deceive in what they say. Always turn from what is wrong and cultivate what is good; eagerly pursue peace in every relationship, making it your prize. For the eyes of the Lord Yahweh rest upon the godly, and his heart responds to their prayers. But he turns his back on those who practice evil. 1 Peter 3:8-12

According to research by the American Society of Training and Development , the two factors that effectively help people achieve the behavior change they desire are incentives and accountability. The odds that you will achieve your goal, when you tell someone about it, is 65%. The odds increase to 95% when you make an appointment to report in your progress on a consistent basis! So, mentors, keep mentoring. If you're being coached, understand the value of your appointments and follow-through on what you agree to!! "We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment." - Jim Rohn "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. I do a lot of coaching and mentoring each week as I build my network marketing business. Today, I want to teach the 7 questions I use most often in my coaching sessions. It comes straight from Michael Bungay Stanier's amazing book "The Coaching Habit" . 1. The Kickstart Question - What's on your mind? 2. The AWE Question - And what else? 3. The Focus Question - What's the real challenge here for you? 4. The Foundation Question - What do you want? 5. The Lazy Question - How can I help? 6. The Strategic Question - If you're saying YES to this, what are you saying NO to? 7. The Learning Question - What was most useful for you?

The Kingdom of God works very differently than the world does. In 1 Samuel chapter 15 the Bible tells the story of a man who thought God wouldn’t mind if he was a little disobedient as long as he worshipped God. King Saul thought, If I give God a sacrifice, He won’t care that I didn’t do everything He said to do. God won’t mind. Saul was wrong. God got angry and told the prophet Samuel to tell him, “Which pleases the Lord more: burnt offerings and sacrifices or obeying his commands? It is better to obey the Lord than to offer sacrifices to him” (1 Samuel 15:22 ERV). Saul thought he could substitute sacrifice, or worship, for obedience. But, in this scripture we learn that obedience is the key to unlocking the blessings of God!

OK, this is a little different episode than you may be used to...but I think that's good. It's time we loosened things up a little bit around here. Being courageous doesn't always mean you have be serious. I had a great time talking with one of my favorite YouTubers, Jack Vale . When, I happened to bump into him months ago, I'm glad I had the courage to come up and say 'hi'. You'll know Jack from his endless collection of farting videos on YouTube - which he started doing just to sell his product, The Pooter ! From there, he's branched out into making all sorts of videos, TV specials and acted in movies along the way. His favorite video, he mentions is I Got Punched For Farting . His LEAST favorite videos are Spider Web Prank and Sour Candy . One of my favorites is Interrupting Telemarketers . He grew up a Christian and purposely keeps his content family-friendly. And, yes, that includes farting - everybody does it, right?! In addition to the hilarious rabbit trails we take, we also covered a great deal of his spiritual journey and the importance of sharing Christ as he gets older. His perspective shifts the more opportunities he gets to demonstrate his faith, like during a recent trip to Haiti with Compassion International . And it was that part of our talk that led me to give an invitation to follow Christ at the end of this episode. Quietime Music song - "Anthem" from Quietime Prayer . Tasha shares her journey, her love for hoodies and tacos, and how you can benefit from her coaching and programs through Emerge Sales Training! The trailer for this documentary film honestly scared the living crap out of me when I first saw it. It caused me to question all that my faith in Christ was built upon. What if the foundational texts - the Torah - of the bible weren't actually written by Moses? Well, filmmaker, Tim Mahoney heard this growing popular theory was sprouting up in colleges and university professors across the country...and he decided to investigate it. And, this film is the story of what he discovered...something so different than he expected. And he shares all about his journey as a filmmaker with me in this podcast episode. He had me fascinated and curious about the process. You can purchase your tickets to the limited Fathom event release of Patterns of Evidence: The Moses Controversy in your local area March 14, 16 and 19, 2019 . At the end of the episode, I give a call to action: write a What Went Well Journal! It's from this book: Chop Wood, Carry Water by Joshua Medcalf

Reid Besch and I go a long way back...he was the older neighbor boy that played with my boys when they were little. It's been 15 years since he was throwing footballs in our connected backyards. In the last 2 years, he's been fighting for his life. He shares his story about being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer - Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) - and fighting to kill this disease out of his body. I've been studying how to be a better marketer in my businesses recently and here's what I've learned so far: 1. Marketing is not about promoting what your thing is, marketing is about promoting valuable information that would attract the kind of person who would want or need what your thing is. 2. A sale isn't made until a conversation is started. Marketers need to focus on creating conversations, NOT leads. Conversations create revenue!

I want to thank Pastor Dale Evrist of New Song Nashville for the inspiration behind this faith-filled message – a powerful one for anyone in business, doing great things - if you are influencers, creating value for others, this message is for you! I reference bible scripture in this episode - Numbers 13-14 . People of a different spirit... 1. Are willing to overcome any obstacle in order to obtain every opportunity. 2. Are willing to pay any price in order to possess every promise. 3. Are willing to conquer great giants by comparing them to a greater God.
Mon, January 14, 2019
I love the promise of Galatians 6:9 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." This is particularly important for those in business. We must not give up. We must continue to do good in our work and in our efforts. If our motivation is from a heart of giving and doing good in the world, God promises we will reap the harvest if we remain faithful to our work. This is such an encouragement for anyone doing great things in network marketing, in business, in real estate sales or any other industry that requires persistence and consistency to see the rewards.

If you aren’t as successful as you’d like to be — if you aren’t as happy as you’d like to be, since success, walks hand in hand with happiness — instead of looking for a new bridge to cross, consider burning a few old ones. Lately, I've incorporated reading our company's leadership magazine articles on a daily basis. I've found them to be full of inspiration and motivation to reach my goals in my business. Well, it's finally here...400 episodes of this podcast! It's been a joy. It's been an honor. I'm so grateful to have had this journey with you. Today is the last day of 2018. Tomorrow, we begin 2019. A fresh start! It's like God's grace is totally upon on this first day of January 2019. It's almost magical. The truth is there's nothing more special about 1/1/2019 than there was on 12/31/2018. God's grace is always there for us - every day! So, what are some ways I can sabotage this new year? I share 4 I've recently discovered . I have decided to be a network marketer. I realize the stigma that can carry with it. And I have been a victim of a poor network marketer and I have also seen how it's possible to do it well. I choose to be a pioneer of what it means to be a servant network marketer. And I embrace that in this episode. How about you? What has been your experience with network marketing? Do you struggle with the stigma like I do?

So, I get a little bit vulnerable here. I share a quote from Rachel Hollis that leads me to discuss something I have done since I was a young boy - present myself larger than I really am. It's all born out of insecurity. I wonder if anyone else can relate to me?

This week, I began reading THIS IS MARKETING by Seth Godin . I have to stop every couple of minutes and ponder what he just said. For some reason, his writing just fascinates me and stirs my business mind. He discussed something that I tried to describe in a previous episode - 393 - Hear How They Feel. Seth just describes the why behind the why much more clearly that I ever could, I had to share it with you.

I don't often get to have my wife join me for a session, but I did today! And boy is it good! I just had to bring Krissy on to share a profound insight she's gotten about bread making. Here's what she wrote on her Facebook page : Yesterday, I stood in front of a nearly empty cupboard. I thought to myself, “Everything in here is ingredients!” As in nothing we can eat immediately😂. I heard God whisper to me....”That’s what I give you. Ingredients. It’s up to you to put them together, and it takes time and effort, but when you do, you get fresh bread.” Prayer, worship, journaling, reading His word—now I see ingredients! We sit down to unpack this a little bit more today. This bread is a really good listen.

GALILEO said "You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself." And, this is the key to being a leader of leaders. You cannot make someone learn something. You can only inspire and stimulate the why behind their why. And, when this is done with a pure motivation - for their benefit - you are really teaching. You are helping him find it within himself!
Tue, December 18, 2018
I'm inspired by a quote from FRANK CHIMERO that says, "I have no idea what I'm doing, and everyone is just making it up as they go along. This about sums up everything I know." What this says to me is I actually need to stop comparing myself to everyone else. Because everyone is just making it up as they go along anyway. A better thing to focus my attention on is how can I find a way to take one step closer to my dream. That's a productive thought. And it's worth focusing on.
Mon, December 17, 2018
Today's episode is inspired by a quote from BOB CHAPMAN "The art of listening is not to hear what someone says but to hear how they feel." The idea is that when you can hear so closely, so intimately, for how someone else feels, you're listening much more intently and therefore will build a deeper relationship with that person. That is the art of listening.

Over the last 3 years, I've learned the hard way finally how to interact with my most important relationships. I used to find reasons to disagree with my wife and kids because I wanted to get to the truth. I've found that my truth is less important than what is true for others. I have significantly less disappointments in my relationships when I made this one simple change.

Corrie Ten Boom, Holocaust Survivor, once said "When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don't throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the driver". What she meant was, how you respond to difficult, challenging or even dangerous times reveals who you really trust for your life. Who is the driver of your life? Who do you choose to be in charge? Is it you? Is it God? It's the great battle of our lives. Are you fighting for control or do you live your life surrendered?

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Like many children, Phillip Andrew grew up feeling anxiety over insecurities and the uncertainties of life. That anxiety led him to abuse alcohol beginning in his pre-teens first getting drunk at the age of 11. When he was 14, his mother was diagnosed with cancer, and during his Sophomore year of High School, exactly 1 week before his 16th birthday, she passed away. That was the fuel being poured on an already burning fire. Today, at 33, living in California, Phillip talks with students about his adventures traveling the world, dealing with the death of a parent, overcoming addiction, and how learning to take ownership over his life and use his hardships as a catalyst for positive change helped him to create a very full life. I have overcome the world.” That little 3 word sentence - But take heart - but have courage! And that's the theme for today. Have courage, go through the tough things so that you will be stronger coming out of it on the other side!!

Sometimes great success brings greater challenges. For twenty years, Ohio native, Matt Hammitt, was the lead singer and songwriter for Dove Award-winning two time Grammy-nominated band Sanctus Real. During that time, the band released eight albums under Sparrow Records, toured internationally and released 14 Top 5 and #1 singles to Christian radio, making the band a household name among Christian music fans worldwide. Authored by Matt, Sanctus Real's most recognized hit, “Lead Me,” has resonated with men, women, and families all over the world. However, what most people don't recognize, is the great irony behind the song itself. "Lead Me," the very song that catapulted the band to the heights of their success, was also the song that would play a major part in Matt's twenty-year career as their front-man coming to an end. As crowds of thousands echoed the words "Don't want to leave them hungry for love, chasing things that I could give up" Matt was deeply convicted that it was time for him to start singing those words less and living them more. Matt made the difficult decision to step away from the band. In February, 2016, Matt played his final show with Sanctus Real. The emotions behind Matt's decision to leave his former band is penned into the opening track of his self-titled album, "Heaven Knows." Throughout the album, Matt takes on the difficulties of stepping out of a familiar and comfortable place to follow Jesus, who often calls us to do difficult things for our ultimate good. Blind trust, or simply put, faith, is a thread that's woven throughout all ten tracks of Matt's new album. Matt has been married to his wife Sarah for sixteen years, and together they have four children. Birthed from his own struggles, one of Matt's greatest passions has become ministering to broken families. In 2010, Matt's son, Bowen, was born with a rare and severe heart disease. Through the pain of caring for a sick child, Matt and Sarah faced some very difficult years of marriage. Out of their experience, Matt and Sarah, started two organizations that mister to families today. Whole Hearts Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides financial, emotional and spiritual support for families of children living with pediatric heart disease. In 2016, Matt and Sarah also launched "Lead Me Live" men's conferences, aimed at encouraging and equipping men to become great spiritual leaders in their home. In 2016, Matt partnered with Full Circle Music and producer Seth Mosley to begin work on a new album which is slated to release in November 2017. “Tears”, the first radio single, broke into the Billboard Christian Airplay Top 50 chart within two weeks of its debut. His current single, “He Always Wins” is a worship anthem that is quickly being sung in churches around the globe. Additionally, Matt is writing a book about the themes of Lead Me and will release in late 2018.

Like water, our thoughts will naturally find the easiest path. And, unfortunately, the older we get, the path of least resistance, when it comes to our thoughts, is to the negative - to wrong thinking. So, what happens if we become aware of this and begin to intentionally change the path and begin right thinking? I discuss this and more in this short motivational message.

A baby girl was born without a right or left hemisphere of her brain. Doctors said she was essentially in a vegetative state, unable to see or hear. They said there was no hope for her. Relinquished to the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin by her birth parents under the state’s Safe Haven Law, this two-week-old unnamed baby girl found her way to Cori and Mark Salchert’s home. Despite the infant’s grim medical diagnosis, when Cori met her, she instantly realized that she could not allow this baby girl to spend her few days on earth alone and unloved. Cori, who had recently suffered a personal health crisis and the loss of her dream job, realized that God was making room in her home and her heart for this precious child. Cori brought the baby girl home and named her Emmalynn. All too often in our society, hospice babies like Emmalynn are left alone by families who find it too difficult to deal with their child’s condition. As a registered nurse and former perinatal bereavement specialist, Cori understands the unique challenges of end-of-life issues for some of the most vulnerable among us: hospice babies with medically life-limiting or terminal diagnoses. Under Cori and Mark’s care, Emmalynn surprised everyone by living for 50 days, days filled with light, laughter, field trips, and unconditional love. She passed away peacefully on September 27, 2012, while being held in Cori’s arms, nuzzled against her chest.Rather than letting these babies pass away in hospitals, which are often sterile, noisy, and devoid of a loving touch, Cori brings them home to feel the warmth of a family environment. She attends to the usual infant needs — daily feedings and diaper changes — in addition to the unique challenges of caring for fragile babies who can pass away without warning.Listening to her share her touching story of loving the unloved until they pass away. It takes a special person to live up to this calling - and you'll hear it's not always easy for her either. Cori Salchert is truly courageous.

I've spent too many years killing my dreams and ideas. I started on them and then somehow I became self-critical and I stopped bringing those crazy ideas of mine to life. I never nurtured them. Bring those ideas to life and nurture them in 2018 - and ignore the negative voices trying to stop me.

Today, I read from what feeds me, a devotional on the new BE FIERCE app (created by our friend Dustin Smith and the Here Be Lions team. The devotion is written by Clint Nahler and it's called "Disciples of the Kingdom". It identified for me partially who we are as a Courageous Community. Who we are and what we carry can be found in Paul's letter to the Ephesians, chapter 1, verses 16-23. As Kingdom disciples, we are shifters of world events, revealers of divine destiny and curators of history. Our calling is high, heavenly and hope-filled. You were born for more. You were born to carry a Kingdom that changes the world. LISTEN NOW!

Todd Burpo is for real. He is the real deal. We have an amazingly deep conversation about his journey through the book and movie "Heaven is for Real". And, in his new book "God is for Real", Burpo answers some of life's most difficult questions. Why are there are so many hypocritical church people? Why do Christians make such a big deal about the cross? Why doesn't God seem to answer our biggest prayers? People are tired of pat answers offered up in churchy language explaining away their questions; we want the down-and-dirty truth. What bothers us about life and faith is real and gritty. We need a plain-spoken voice to offer God's answers to difficult struggles and painful doubts.Todd charges into these subjects with a fireman's courage, a small-town friend's vulnerability, and a local pastor's compassion. He helps articulate the questions people have, then gives them relevant biblical wisdom for taking their next steps in faith.

I've learned in life that it's not always about feeling good when you're doing something. If you want something bad enough, and the end goal drives you, there are times when you just have to master the grind. If you don't, you lose. On this episode of Courage Cast, I talk with author of “The Knights Code," Robert Noland about the today’s men and the courage required to build the life you want. Robert’s mission is to release men from a confined life and encourage them to embrace intimacy and pursue their real passions. Robert and I get personal about the worlds view of manhood, the ambiguous mid-life crisis, and how fear keeps us from embracing life. I loved hearing his perspective of Adam’s role in the fall of man in Genesis, and how it shaped the future of our roles in family and work. Robert is a fantastic communicator, and I really enjoyed hearing his story of finding his calling late in life and finding the will to pursue it.

On this week’s episode of Courage Cast, I sit down with author and speaker, Jessica Harris to discuss a topic that is all too often swept under the rug. At a young age, Jessica was exposed to pornography for the first time. This began a downward spiral and breakthrough that ultimately led to a God-sized calling she never wished for, but is passionately pursuing. In her book, “The Beggars Daughter,” Jessica tells the story of her past addiction to pornography, how it was shamefully discovered, and her long road to freedom. On this episode, we discuss the stigma behind women and pornography and the assumptions on this topic that bind so much shame within the church. Jessica’s story may surprise a few, but the statistics show that she is most certainly not alone in her story. She has created an entire ministry dedicated to helping other women rise above addiction, and I was excited to discuss her newest devotional, “Love Done Right” as a great jumping off point. This episode was illuminating on so many levels, and I am so thankful for Jessica’s vulnerability and willingness to tell her story. I really believe it will encourage and educate so many on a subject that remains so suppressed. May you find freedom and courage as you listen to this week’s humbling interview with my new friend, Jessica Harris.

My friend Danny thought it would be fun to interview me on my own podcast. If you want to get to know me better, listen to this. If you're fine with the level of myself that I've given you up until now...no need to listen. This is complete silliness, mixed with moments of depth and vulnerability. Danny asks me questions from imaginary people and some of the questions are filled with innuendo and inside jokes. Some of the questions I answer well...some I would probably answer differently if I had more time to think of an answer! Oh well...here it is. I hate to edit interviews...so you get a more real, raw and unedited me. I even cuss a little...a very little. Enjoy!

This week on Courage Cast, I have the privilege of interviewing author and speaker, Brent Gambrell! Brent’s new book, “Living For Another” released this month, and based off this conversation I can’t wait to get my hands on it! On this episode, Brent and I discuss the process of pouring out. Being a regular on the missions field, Brent is familiar with the concept of service, and feels called to preach a message of living life abundantly by losing your life first. In order to heal, in order to find fulfillment, we must make the MOST of everybody around us. By serving others and placing our focus on their needs vs. our own, we enliven our faith and enrich our relationship with Jesus. A few takeaways from this episode: 1. The beginning of healing is when you begin to POUR OUT2. We get bored with our faith because we become so fat with our own knowledge and self awareness. Digging into the idea of “pouring out” brought on a few great discussions throughout this episode, and I’m looking forward to hearing YOUR personal takeaways this week! Thank you for listening to Courage Cast! I hope you enjoy this interview with Brent Gambrell!

What an honor it was to interview this week’s Courage Cast guest, John Eldredge! John is the international best-selling author of Wild At Heart, a book that has personally impacted me in so many ways. His new book, “All Things New”, releases TODAY, and I’m so excited to speak with him about his writing process and what the book entails. On this episode, John and I dig into the topic of hope and eternal significance. “All Things New” was written to inspire the hope that no matter what we lose here on earth, there is a heavenly restoration coming. We are in what John calls “a hope crisis.” With suicide and depression rates at an all time high, it’s no wonder that God infused John with a desire to write on this subject. It was really an eye-opening interview for me, and I was so thankful to sit under John’s wisdom for that bit of time. I know you will get so much out of this interview and John’s new book, “All Things New”, which I’ll link in the shownotes! Thanks for listening, and enjoy this weeks discussion with John Eldredge!

What can I say about this weeks guest? There are so many reasons to love and admire Edie Sundby, and I was honored to spend some time hearing her amazing story! Around 10 years ago, Edie found herself in a doctors office complaining of back pain. She’d just sent her children off to college, and was looking forward to embracing the empty nest and beginning a new business venture with her husband. She was active and social. She even ate primarily organic foods. On the outside, Edie was the picture of health and wellness. But on the inside, vital organs were being attacked by what she soon discovered was stage 4 cancer. The cancer had spread at an alarming rate, covering her body. She was told she had 3 months to live. To anyone who’s been diagnosed with a terminal illness, or knows someone who has, we can all testify it is an absolutely traumatic experience. Edie took her diagnosis and made peace with it. But after awhile, she decided to try her own form of therapy. In the midst of 79 rounds of chemo, and 3 radical surgeries, Edie began walking. Edie soon expanded her walk to the 800+ mile El Camino Real Mission Trail, a trail that connects the 20 missions across California. This trail had not been walked in its entirety in over 200 years, making 64 year-old Edie’s completion of the walk not only record-breaking, but miraculous. On this episode, Edie and I discuss why she chose walking, what the trek involved, the emotions that follow terminal cancer, and how she found God in the desert. She truly is a remarkable person and a great storyteller. Edie’s mission is to be an ambassador of hope, and to share her story of healing and freedom to those in a season to pain. Her book, “The Mission Walker” details her journey and you can find the link below! A few takeaways from this episode: 1. Whatever happens in life, don’t give up your sense of meaning and purpose.2. When we start to MOVE, we’re not as afraid.3. When you’re handed a negative diagnosis, do you best to live outside of your illness.

This week I sit down with author and speaker, Teasi Cannon! We discuss the story behind her powerful book, “Lord Where's My Calling?” What I love about Teasi is the depth she brings to every conversation. She has a way of taking difficult concepts like “calling” or “purpose” and simplifying them in the midst of their magnitude. On this episode, Teasi shares how she struggled for years over the concept of a “calling,” and how she overcame the fear that her life lacks significance. I was so challenged by a lot of what we discussed, one of which was the two questions Teasi asks God at the end of everyday: “Did I do anything to make you known today?" and "Did I do anything to know you better today?” Teasi and I also discuss the trap of comparison, and how it affects our hearts and moves us away from our purpose.

We have learned this the hard way recently just because we simply didn't ask. We missed out on opportunities to help great people with their health. Whatever business you are in, whatever dreams you have and goals you want to pursue remember do not forget to ask. Asking is your vehicle for receiving. It does not mean begging, it does not indicate that you are selfish. Quit lying to yourself about asking because you think asking means you're a bad person. You have something of value to offer which is yourself. Do not undervalue yourself or undervalue what you have to offer to others. The right time to ask is today. "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." Matthew 7:7

One of the most powerful abilities we have is helping others realize their potential. We can do this by praising their strengths. Yet, this is something we do so infrequently. It's much easier to point out someone's faults. Even when it's tough to find things to praise, try hard to find something. More timeless wisdom from Dale Carnegie and "How To Win Friends and Influence People".

Taking action is what builds self-confidence and healthy pride. I recognize that my own inaction when faced with self-doubt, fear and uncomfortable moments are why I struggled with confidence throughout the years.
