You're about to watch or listen to me coaching Scott and Kate. Kate has an extraordinary track record of success behind her. She is known by and trusted by several world leaders. And she is in her head about how she can get them as coaching clients, so I snap her out of it. And I tell her 2 things: One, your need to have fear and doubt is a sign you are working with the caliber of people you need to work with. And two, it's a sign that you're in your head. Scott has a background in the corporate world and a track record of success. I have to snap him out of one thing in particular, referring to himself as a new coach, and I slow him down to the power of a single conversation which will change everything for him. I'll see both of them at the intensive that's coming up. And if you're interested, come and join us, too, because it's where we get to do the energetic work around creating clients that you can't always capture in the nuance of a recording or a piece of writing. In this episode, I coach two clients on how to achieve their goals. Mary Grant is a successful fashion entrepreneur looking to transition into coaching. The other client, David Watson, is a successful consultant who wants to grow and make a bigger impact. The one thing we have in common is that we all want to find our ideal clients. I believe the key to do that is to understand their psychographics, not just demographics. Psychographics are the client's values, beliefs, and motivations. So the conversation develops around this concept. Enjoy! Love. Rich P.S. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. This time around, I did something different with the podcast. I brought 2 people to talk with: Linley who had worked with me in the past, and Sarah who's never worked with me. They don't know each other and the 3 of us never spent time together, but I thought this would be fun. One of the reasons I'm doing this is that both of them are signed up to come to the next Intensive in a few weeks. I love doing this kind of stuff. A client of mine runs a multi-million-dollar business. She’s respected by everyone in her field, yet she once said to me, “I could do this with my eyes closed. I want something more.” And then she went on, “I’m not lonely, but I’m very alone. There’s no one else I dare share this with but you.” One challenge of being a high performer is that you can be surrounded by people whose only mission is to say “yes” to you, who want to make you feel good, or say what they think you need to hear. Oh this was fun! You see, in this top 10 episode, I start to chat to Ervine before we hit record and she makes a little joke about me mistaking her for a high-performer. I immediately ask if I can start recording because I want to illustrate something important. Marianne Williamson captured it in her poem: "Our deepest fear is not that we are weak. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us." Too often, I see leaders fighting for their limitations. And that's always when I jump in. Ervine is a fascinating woman with a background in high-level sales. She has had a successful career that was built one relationship at a time. When I ask her how many coaching clients she wants, she is a little surprised to realize that it is no more than 12 clients a year. In this episode you'll hear me break down 5 of the top ways to build a word-of-mouth business. Masterclasses, other people's communities, former networks, referrals and creating your own community. When you are remarkable, it literally means that people remark about you. They talk about you when you are not there. That is the platinum standard for any business. Welcome to 1 Insight with Rich Litvin, a podcast for extraordinary top performers and their coaches. In this episode, Rich delves into the paradox of high-paying clients. He begins by reflecting on his own journey from coaching clients who paid $10 a month to working with high-paying clients who invest significantly more. Rich emphasizes that the concept of a high-paying client is relative. What might feel like a high-paying client today can evolve as you grow in your coaching practice. The key is recognizing that your pricing will change over time. He shares a personal story of starting his weight training journey, highlighting how even using just the bar can be challenging initially. Similarly, in coaching, everyone starts somewhere, and what seems high-paying now might become the norm later. Rich emphasizes the importance of doing inner work to overcome doubts, fears, and insecurities about pricing. He encourages coaches to practice stating their fees until it becomes natural. While high-paying clients aren't a necessity for everyone, Rich shares that they allow him to provide free content like articles. He mentions that coaches have the freedom to choose how they want to play the coaching game. The episode closes with a reminder that coaching is about leading and transforming people's thinking. If you're interested in learning more about Rich's community of extraordinary top performers, visit https://richlitvin.com/1-insight/. The paradox of high-paying clients is that they don't exist, yet they are everywhere. Your journey as a coach is to determine how you want to play this game, embrace pricing changes, and lead your clients to transformative insights.

Welcome to "One Insight" with Rich Litvin. In this episode, Rich explores "Sex vs. Cash Theory," a concept that resonates with coaches and high-achievers. Discover the art of balancing passion with pragmatism in your coaching journey. Loneliness of Success Rich acknowledges the isolation that success can bring. As you excel, you might feel like an imposter. Rich stresses the importance of support for accomplished individuals, who often need it more than they realize. Power of a Single Insight Rich's coaching centers on creating profound insights. A single insight can reshape your world. Coaching, for him, is about catalyzing these transformative moments. Defining "Sex vs. Cash Theory" The episode introduces "Sex vs. Cash Theory" by Hugh McLeod, distinguishing between "fun, sexy" work and the work that "pays the bills." Rich highlights the need to balance these aspects in coaching. Pragmatism is Vital Rich emphasizes pragmatism in a coach's career. While the "sexy" projects are thrilling, practical work ensures financial stability. This stability offers freedom and peace of mind. Sustainable Coaching Career Finding equilibrium between passion and practicality is key. For some, a day job or cash project serves as the foundation for coaching's exciting projects. This balance nurtures both creativity and financial security. Embrace Change and Innovation Rich encourages coaches to embrace evolution. Sexy projects may become cash projects over time and vice versa. Coaches should welcome change and seek fresh opportunities. Low Boredom Threshold Many coaches share a low boredom threshold. They constantly seek new challenges and create innovative ventures, keeping their work dynamic. Rich concludes by underlining the importance of financial stability alongside passion. Balancing "sex" and "cash" projects is the recipe for a fulfilling coaching career. Explore more insights and join a community of high achievers at https://richlitvin.com/1-insight/ . Remember, a single insight can transform everything. Stay curious and pursue those life-changing moments.

You know what I love the most about coaching around insight? It's that I have no idea walking into a session, just what is going to occur. In this conversation, Lauren wants my guidance on using intuition in coaching. And Anthony wants to let go of the unrelenting guilt—common to so many high performers—that he isn't yet where he wants to be. How on earth will I bring these two conversations together? There's only one answer to that question. It's to be totally present and in the moment. And to discover what happens along the way. It turns out that Anthony has his biggest insights listening to Lauren. And Lauren has her biggest insights listening to Anthony. I’m a scientist by training. I have a joint degree in Biology and Economics. And that background in biology meant that I spent hours and hours of the early part of my life studying, researching and experimenting in a laboratory. The Latin root of the word “laboratory” literally means to work. The word “experiment” comes from the Latin, meaning to try and to risk. The word “research” comes from Latin, meaning “to wander hither and thither.” So, what we call science literally means hard work, taking risks and not really knowing where you’re going! I grew up in London, where some nights it was so foggy I could only see a few yards ahead in front of my face. Despite the darkness and the fog, I could still regularly drive the 10 miles to my home. Life is much like that. It would be nice to have clarity 10 years into the future about exactly what's going to happen but it doesn't really work like that. Today I mess with the thinking of two successful coaches and business owners. I show them that they are looking for clarity in the wrong direction! You and your clients are probably doing so, too... I have a handful of Thinking Partner clients. They invest $47K for around 5 months. I have 1-2 Concierge Trusted Advisor clients a year who invest $185K to have access to me when they need it. You may be surprised at how little they need that access. And My Thinking Partner clients are often complete way before our 30 minute calls are complete. But here's the thing, my clients are NOT paying for my time. They are paying for their insights. And their insights are priceless. Today you can listen to my shortest podcast episode yet. She's a also a mother, raising a high-functioning autistic son. "If you only read one book on coaching, you have to read The Prosperous Coach..." That's what Alina's friend said to her. And, only a couple of years later, it's why Alina is now a member of 4PC, my exclusive community of high-level leaders. I wrote The Prosperous Coach, with my friend Steve Chandler, almost 10 years ago—and it has stood the test of time. It has been in the top 20 books about coaching on Amazon ever since it was published. It’s sold over 75,000 copies and it continues to sell 1,000 copies a month. Now, we wrote that book 10 years ago and much has changed in the world in that time. We wrote The Prosperous Coach to be a timeless book but that doesn't mean that we can't add new ideas and distinctions. In life, it can feel like we are being pulled in 10 different directions at the same time. It can be stressful choosing which part of yourself to identify with. Well, what if you didn’t have to choose at all? Rich’s guests today, Manjeet and Jordan, are dealing with that struggle in their lives right now. Manjeet has been a consultant to some of Britain's top retailers for over a decade. Jordan has won awards in the advertising industry for her work. Both of them have transitioned into coaching. It can be scary making this shift in your life, especially when you have a family that you need to provide for. Coaches make the mistake of saying yes to coaching to anyone and everyone. Don’t jump into these relationships without asking the right questions. More important than any factor is your belief in yourself. You must believe to the core of you that working with you will change your clients’ lives. You can do it! In today’s episode: *Looking at the different parts of your life as 2 parts of the same person *Searching for the authentic version of yourself *Being a secret agent of coaching in your industry *Framing your conversational tools in order to get your clients excited *Changing client mindsets by understanding human behavior *Navigating the emotional roller coaster of life and entrepreneurship *Asking the right questions when vetting your potential clients *Calling it what it is to avoid any guilt on your end and help them relax on theirs *The true definition of consulting *These are the most powerful words in coaching For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Laurie is an extraordinary woman. She's been a Chief of Staff for a Fortune 10 company and she wants my advice on the book she's writing. But you know me... I don't play that way! You see, a great coach provokes their clients thinking, rather than validating it. A great coach gives their clients bigger questions to live into, rather than answering the questions they have for them. Instead of offering strategies to scale his business, I ask him to look back at how he has created success until now. And then I propose that he doubles down on that. Tasha was an educator then and a registered nurse, for 16 years. She's Type A by nature – driven, highly organized, ambitious and impatient. She starts the coaching session by asking me about how to do less. You see, she doesn't want to go back to her old ways as she builds a successful coaching practice. I introduce her to a new distinction, “Less but better…” It’s a game changer for her. And in that moment – 90 seconds after we’ve begun – I realize that she needs to practice this, right now. So I tell her we’re done! The best gift you can ever give a client is to create space for insight. The second best gift is to gently push them to turn that insight into action... Love. Rich PS. One of the most common things I see in top performers is a desire to do more, to create more and to have more impact. However, what makes the biggest difference for high-achievers is to slow down enough to discover the tiniest steps that make the biggest difference. They feel lazy when they operate from their Zone of Genius but it's often the path to their next level of success. Sarah is hugely accomplished and very successful at almost everything she puts her mind to. Christopher Maher is a former Navy SEAL, a former Olympic athlete and a member of 4PC. We have actually coached one other for over 8 years. And I use his techniques almost every day, to remove stress from my system—physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Today I coach Christopher over how to live a life on his own terms, while still making a big difference in the world and for his clients. When we get in our car, we pay attention to the dials in front of us. Is the check engine light on? How's the tire pressure? Do I need gas? Or we don't pay attention... I got a speeding ticket the other day because I didn't keep my eyes on the speedometer. Today I am coaching an extraordinary woman called Nikki. She's a diversity consultant, a coach and a musician. And she is hitting a ceiling on the level of her success that she perceives as a tension between who she thinks she is and who she is becoming. What's actually happening is that she is up-leveling her life and business — but she is still living based on some outdated measures of success. Today, I help Nikki create some new metrics for success. As you listen in, I invite you to create some new metrics for your own next level of success. Love. The coaching itself takes around 3 minutes. But my client, Sophie—a highly successful corporate consultant—leaves with everything she needs. Love. Oh this was fun! You see, I start to chat to Ervine before we hit record and she makes a little joke about me mistaking her for a high-performer. In this episode you'll hear me breakdown 5 of the top ways to build a word-of-mouth business. Masterclasses, other people's communities, former networks, referrals and creating your own community. When you are remarkable, it literally means that people remark about you. They talk about you when you are not there. That is the platinum standard for any business. Anu is a consultant to high-level organizations and their leadership teams. She's an incredible woman who has literally been a leader since the age of 6. But right now she is holding back from telling these leaders what they REALLY need to hear. So, I have to step into leadership myself. Four of the most powerful words you can ever say to a client are, "Tell me your story..." Tatiana was a Managing Director of an investment bank, where she was responsible for managing billions of dollars of assets. She is now a high-level coach and consultant. But this wasn't a clear path. Tatiana grew up behind the Iron Curtain, at a time when the Soviet Union was a socialist state and controlled every aspect of a person's life and career. But Tatiana is a rule breaker. When you tell her she can't do something, a voice in her head immediately responds, "I'll show you..." And she has made a career of doing things that most people said were impossible. Today, I help her draw out her story by seeking the golden threads that go all the way back to her childhood. As a coach, you need to continually re-invent the way you work with clients. Over years of coaching highly successful people, I have seen that the more successful people become, the less they are able to have truly high-level conversations. They've outgrown their peers. They're surrounded by people who are impressed with everything they do and who say yes to everything they say. And they rarely have anyone willing to challenge their thinking. This is why I created The Thinking Partnership—because if you are super sharp you may not need deep coaching. I designed The Thinking Partnership as an unorthodox way to help highly successful leaders who don't want a year of coaching—or business owners who don't have time for weekly hour long sessions. Thinking Partnership sessions are short, sharp and highly-focused. We schedule thirty minutes but often clients are done in ten. Today you get to listen in on a Thinking Partnership session with Sarah. Sarah has run a successful strategic leadership consultancy for 30 years. Her first book was published almost 25 years ago and she has a track record coaching leaders in the corporate world. How could I possibly help Sarah? The thing is, I don't need to. In a Thinking Partnership, I listen deeply and I provoke your thinking. With a high-performer, the insights are a given! Join us while I do this for Sarah and for you, at the very same time... Love. There's no intro to today's coaching session because I jumped straight into a conversation with these two powerful men. My intuition told me to ask each of them to tell me what the other most needs. I had no idea what would happen next. But that's where the magic almost always is, in life—when you have no idea what is coming next. We talked about the dark side of our gifts, we talked about marketing, we talked about when my relationship with Monique ended around 12 years ago (spoiler alert: we got back together) and we talked about why having an elevator pitch is a complete and utter waste of time! Today I’m coaching Barbara and I begin by drawing out her story. I discover that she’s an incredibly courageous woman, which is valuable because she then tries to enroll me in a story about how scared she is... Often our job as a coach is not much more than to NOT buy into the stories our clients are living into. By the time we are complete she’s had a powerful insight moment and I say “cut!” to my editor. But I notice Barbara make an audible sigh and relax into her chair. So I keep the camera rolling. We continue to talk and we go even deeper. This is becoming so common that I think I might make it a standing agreement, when I record these podcasts, that when I say cut we keep the cameras rolling anyway to see what else will come out! I wrote The Prosperous Coach, with my friend Steve Chandler, almost 8 years ago—and it has stood the test of time. It has been in the top 20 books about coaching on Amazon ever since it was published. It’s sold over 75,000 copies and it continues to sell 1,000 copies a month. In fact, just last month, we had our highest number of sales ever. Now, we wrote that book 8 years ago and much has changed in the world in that time. We wrote The Prosperous Coach to be a timeless book but that doesn't mean that we can't add new ideas and distinctions. In this short episode, I share some of my very latest thinking—in what I call Prosperous Coach 2.0. Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. Today, I'll teach you 5 steps to being world-class... Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. I’m an expert in high-level, complex coaching skills. And I’m an expert in coaching high-level leaders. When you watch me coach, you see me soaring on invisible gusts of wind. I’m an expert in creating something from nothing. A book that's sold 75,000 copies. A program that can create a million dollars worth of value in a year. An article that’s read by 20,000 people. A video that’s watched by 100,000 people. A community of high-level leaders. But what you don’t see, when you observe my successes, is that I’ve spent over 10 years writing every day. What you don’t see is that I’ve spent 15 years creating – and much of it was never read, never watched, or never purchased. What you don’t see is that I’ve spent over 30 years studying and practicing leadership and coaching skills. Once you’re successful, you get to soar on invisible currents. People talk about you. You build a word-of-mouth business. Today, I am going to teach you how to soar... Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. Around 1,800 years ago, the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius noted: "What stands in the way becomes the way." Whatever problem you are facing right now has the seeds of it’s solution within it. To be a great coach do NOT try to solve your clients’ problems. Instead help them to live into bigger challenges... Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. This episode is about the worst night of my life. Ever. And it happened just the other day. Before bed, I took a medication, and for about half an hour everything was fine, as I tucked in the kids and read them a bedtime story. Then something began to change... I didn't feel good and I lay down next to Monique. I didn't want to worry her but after a few more minutes, something began to feel seriously wrong. My vision was confused and then my arms and legs started to twitch and I couldn't stop them. I could no longer speak clearly. And then my face started making involuntary movements and twitching, too. I was seriously scared. I asked Monique to call 911. And after that it got very blurry. Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. My first leadership role was thrust upon me at 10 years old; when I was made School Captain of my primary school. I had no idea what leadership even meant. And I have been making mistakes as a leader, ever since! What I’ve discovered—and I am going to teach you today—is that there are 3 key, counterintuitive rules to being a great leader: 1. The Reverse Golden Rule 2. The Diamond Rule 3. The Snowflake Rule Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. Today, I am going to teach you a formula to turn huge dreams into reality: 1. Dream Big 2. Take Tiny Steps 3. Think Long Term 4. Success is an inside-out journey 5. Keep Going 6. Do the opposite 7. Seek an elite community And I am going to share my insights from watching my wife, Monique DeBose create exponential success in her life as a performer. What most people don’t see, is that—like all successful people—Monique has faced roadblocks, challenges and criticism along her journey. It’s been hard. I was a fearful child. I’ve been a fearful man. And I’ve spent much of my life covering it up by doing all I can to look confident on the outside, whilst feeling deeply insecure on the inside. I’m afraid of not being liked, of running out of money, of dying before I see my kids grow up, of telling Monique what I really, really want, of aiming too high, of failing, of looking bad, of getting NOs… But I have learned that FEAR IS A MASK FOR DESIRE. And when a client asks me to help them get rid of a fear, I’m far more interested to find out what they really, really want. Underneath fear is desire. It’s what their fear is holding them back from. Today's episode is a reminder to hide nothing, to hold nothing back, to serve not please and to speak your truth—no matter what. Love. Rich PS. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Leadership is lonely. Often very lonely. It’s why I created 4PC. Selfishly. For me. So, I didn’t have to feel quite so alone. So, I could be surrounded by fascinating people. So, I could have people in my world who inspire me. 4PC is a high-pressure environment. We’re surrounded by people who are where we want to be in at least one area of our life. We are each forced to compete higher than our skill level. In today's episode, I am going to take you through 6 powerful tools that I recently taught to the coaches and leaders in my high-pressure community. Love. Rich P.S. The job of an extraordinary coach is to provoke their clients. The word "provoke" or "provocative" often has a negative connotation. It means "to annoy" and "to irritate." But, if you trace the word back to its Latin derivation, to provoke means "to draw forth." And that's the job of an extraordinary coach. To draw forth their clients. To draw out their genius. In the third episode in this series, I’ll share two more of my favorite questions. And these two relate to fear. Love. Rich PS. After you've listened to this episode, get in touch. Most coaches think their job is to answer the questions that their clients come to them with. But, an extraordinary coach knows that’s not their job. The job of an extraordinary coach is to challenge the questions their clients ask. The job of an extraordinary coach is to help their clients live into better questions. As a coach, one of the gifts you can give extraordinary high performers is to create the safety for them to really speak their truth. In return, to have the kind of coach who is willing to hide nothing and hold nothing back, is a very unique experience for extraordinarily high performers. The team at WBECS invited me to give a presentation about coaching high performers. Well, I don't 'teach' and I don't do 'presentations', I told them. But I do coach. We're in. They said. So that's what I did. I coached. And I drew out some powerful distinctions from an extraordinary high-performing woman. Here we are... Love. Rich PS. Praveen coaches brilliant leaders in the tech world. But he feels like he is hiding. He feels like he's in a place of comfort as a coach. He feels that he's not really stepping up as a leader. I draw out a distinction that shifts everything for him, based on a 2,500 year old quote by Lao Tzu: "A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves..." When I first met Jermaine she told me a secret. She'd invested $35,000 in courses and with marketing 'experts' to build her coaching business. With all that money invested, she hadn't got a single paying client. I coached her to become a 'secret agent of coaching' in her company. She now coaches her boss and her boss's boss. She's known as the go to coach in her organization. In today's conversation, she asks me to help her build a community. But you know I don't play that way! Instead, I draw out of her a childhood story of trauma and struggle. A story that has informed who she is and what she does for the past 30 years. From that place, she has a TRULY powerful mission... Almost 10 years ago, one of my coaches shared with me a tool that has changed my life. I call it a Manifesto. It’s the tool I use to “create” myself every day. I've been working on this for almost 10 years. I read to myself – sometimes out loud – almost every morning. I've shared with almost no one other than a handful of clients, over the years. And at my recent intensive, I took a risk and shared it out loud. And in this episode I am going to share my Manifesto with you... ======== A CREATED WORLD The theme of this new podcast season is “A Created World.” Most people live in a “Reported On World” – life happens to me… things are challenging… my wife is mean… my boss doesn't like me… A few, rare people live in a “Created World.” Whatever happens, they are at choice how they respond to the world around them. The Manifesto is a tool I have used to work on myself year, after year, after year, to create myself as the person I've become. It's a never ending process because the person I am today is someone who's growing into the person I'll be tomorrow. You’ll hear me get very moved at the end of this episode because I don't normally share this with anyone else. So, enjoy this season, as I coach people around how they create themselves for what's coming next in their world and in their life. Love. Rich PS. After you've listened to this episode, get in touch. What I see in Vicki is that with 20 years or more behind her of expertise in working with high-level leaders in organizations, it's time for her to start sharing her gifts. That looks like, it's time for her to be a thought leader. In this conversation, I teach her 3 tools to draw out these gifts and insights that she has. I draw apart the two words: thought, leader. There are four stages of transformation: 1. Separation 2. Initiation 3. Transformation 4. Transmission Transmission is when you become a guide and start to help others to become heroes. Today I have a conversation with Hayden around how he steps into the highest level of transformation - the mastery level. Sometimes as a coach your job is to simply create space and the clients will come to their own insights. And, that's precisely what happens in this conversation. Today I’m coaching a former Navy SEAL. The job of a great coach isn’t to answer their clients, questions. It’s to help create more powerful questions for them to live into. Vicki Shillington has over 20 years experience as an executive at a Fortune 50 form. She's been a consultant at one of the "Big Five" accounting and consulting firms. She's built a reputation for leading transformation for Fortune 500 companies. She's an expert in positive psychology. And she's known for speaking her truth to high level leaders. Her clients include a $500 billion dollar corporation. And she's regularly called on to consult with start-ups (one of her passions). Her company has created a model to lead businesses through the current economic uncertainty. She shared it with us in 4PC and blew us away with her thinking, her insights and her ideas. So, I asked her if she'd be willing to share these ideas with my whole community. This will support YOU. And it will support YOUR CLIENTS. The model you will learn has 3 phases – Chaos, Acceptance and the New Normal. As a leader, it's essential you identify which stage you're in, which stage your business is in and which stage your team is in. You need to show up differently as a leader, in each stage. You need to make different decisions and take different actions, in each stage. And you must communicate differently with team members who are in another stage to you, otherwise you'll upset them and even lose them. If you're a coach this is an incredible tool for you. And it's an excellent tool to guide and support your clients. Love. Rich PS. After you've listened to this episode, get in touch. Coaching powerful people is interesting… because when they have an insight, there's nothing more you need to do. You don't need to help them create a 27 step action plan or to hold them accountable. They are good to go. Matt is a powerful leader who knows how to support others, in challenging circumstances. In 2007, Angela met a very inspiring man. A year later, she quit her job to help this young Senator, with an unusual name, run for President. People told her she was crazy. When Barack Obama became President of the United States, she spent 7 years in the White House, as his personal aide. In this coaching session, I break the coaching ‘rules’. I step into leadership. I tell her what I think. I tell Angela to stop being selfish. It's time for her to share the leadership lessons she learned sitting next to and observing one of the most fascinating presidents in recent history… What's the message that YOU are not sharing? Imagine running a company where your clients are seniors and your business generation happens almost exclusively through live events. And then there's a pandemic… Welcome to Catherine's world. She's exhausted, and it feels like she's carrying this burden alone. Within 3 minutes of coaching, she has an insight that's so powerful, we both know we're there. Shortest podcast episode ever! I tell our editor to cut and Catherine and I start to chat. And in those next 2 minutes, she has another really powerful insight. So I asked them to leave that in the recording. For 21 years, Robert McPhee has been a trusted advisor to high level leaders, CEOs, Directors and Board members. His company is called Excellent Decisions. He was Director Of Training for Jack Canfield Companies for almost 5 years. And he is a Founder/Founding Member of the Transformational Leadership Council and the Association of Transformational Leaders. Robert invited me on his podcast and I said yes. But when we started the conversation, I switched things up on him... I said "Robert, I can do a good interview but my Zone of Genius is coaching high-level, successful leaders – like you. I am gifted in supporting the kind of people who don't need support. I see things most leaders can't see – and I am willing to say the things most people aren't willing to say. Let me coach you, live on your podcast..." This episode is called Serve, Serve, Serve because that's how we will come through these trying times... 500 people from my community joined me live on a Zoom call, called Leading in Challenging Times. We recorded it and now you can join me as I share the best principles I've learned from over 2 decades of leadership, sometimes in very trying circumstances. You'll hear me teach 14 concepts to support you to lead (yourself AND your clients): 1. The importance of check engine lights… 2. How to be your own best client… 3. Helpers high – how it works and how it can help you… 4. The power of love – how to build trust and show compassion… 5. Setting your compass – values-based leadership… 6. Leading by receiving… 7. The importance of ritual… 8. Stumbling on happiness… 9. WWRD? 10. You've been here before… 11. A power greater than yourself… 12. Building your support team… 13. The power of long-term thinking… 14. Focus on your clients‘ clients… Please message me at hello@richlitvin.com to tell me your biggest insight – and how you will apply it. And please share this episode with a friend. Much love. I'm extraordinarily good at helping high level leaders become high level coaches. And I often see successful leaders struggle as they become coaches. You see, they often dismiss all their prior leadership experience. In Season 4, I draw out my guests' stories in a way that empowers them to articulate who they are in the most powerful way possible. Imagine you could tell stories so powerful that your clients say, Wow... Imagine you could look in the eyes of a client – and instead of feeling like a new coach – you could say, I've been doing this my entire life... Well, you can. Today I coached Catherine. Catherine is a member of 4PC, she is a top performer, she is an estate attorney by background, and she has a business that makes millions. She is really making an impact on people's lives, helping them create an amazing future for themselves and their children. She has had a taste of coaching and loves it! But she is sucked into those things that drain her of energy in her business. So, I teach her a tool that I call "Hell yes. Hell No. Maybe." It will transform her business, it will transform her leadership team, and it will transform the life of all of them as they get more and more away from the "hell nos" and more and more into the "hell yeses" for their life and their business. I tell her a story too about another tool called "the avoid at all costs list," which is a game changer. She has this insight that has her say "wow," and then we are there. Today's episode isn't a coaching session. It's a very honest conversation with one of my Protégés. Before becoming a coach, Mark Silverman generated over $90 million in complex tech sales in the corporate world and worked at numerous rapid growth startups. He sought me out as his coach and he became a member of my community. Mark is now making over $200K a year as a coach and working with dream clients. His first book sold over 50,000 copies and he is working on his second. However, it definitely was not always like this. Once he began working with me, he quite quickly created a 6-figure income but that didn't cover the expenses of his former lifestyle. And he went through quite a challenging time for a while. Listen to the end and you’re here Mark share about the frightening moment when he realized he was spending more money from cashing in his 401(k) than from coaching income… Mark asked me if he could share the – very raw and real – ups and downs of his story with you and I immediately said yes. Most coaches I meet who have come from the corporate world are very clear that they want to leave it behind. But a handful still love the world they come from and Mark’s success as a coach transforms the moment he has the insight, “I love wearing a suit. And I love to work in glass buildings!” -- For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It was called leadership. She is a woman who has done extraordinary things in her life. She runs 180 Kilometer races, ultra marathons, almost 120 miles. She doesn't like to do things by halves. I begin every coaching session with two secret beliefs: You are far more powerful than you know. Especially if you've already accomplished things that impress most people. Tears are a release of emotion. And if I can create a safe enough space, my clients will cry when they share things with me they never shared with another living soul. I begin this coaching session with one of my favorite coaching questions: “What would make this an extraordinary conversation?” Kristen's reply was intellectually engaging but I couldn't feel her. So, I know we need to dive deep... Like all my clients, Kristen is a top performer with a track record of success. She’s a retired television executive who founded a non-profit that has brought clean water to over 100,000 people in developing countries. And as I dive in, Kristen shares things with me that she’s never shared before. In fact, she’s moved to tears. She leaves the conversation with an insight that will make a massive impact in her life and in the lives of her clients. As you listen to the conversation, pay attention to two things: The moments of insight on my client's side. The moments on my side where I choose when to dive deep. What do you notice about what I see, hear or feel that give me clues in which direction to go? Please share your insights with me. And let me know where you are more powerful than you know... A single insight can completely change your life, and that insight can come in many forms. Rich’s came in the form of a phone call, a phone call that he duplicates for his client today. Luisa is a consultant and understands business at the highest levels. Her hope is to work with Rich on the idea of doing something fun and big while using her genius. Rich shares a story about the phone call that saw him commit to something fully though he knew nothing about it. By turning their conversation into that phone call, Rich is able to give Luisa a sense of mission and a way to give back. Her one moment of insight has her on a path and nothing can stop her! Coaching is about more than having a coaching business. For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching, it was called leadership. Rich’s guest today, Shelley Paxton, has spent her entire career as a leader. Shelley is the former Chief Marketing Officer for Harley Davidson, one of the most iconic brands on the planet. Her book is going to be published in January by Simon and Schuster, a mainstream publisher. She is wondering how she can craft the funnel for her business. However, Rich doesn’t like the word funnel, especially for a rebel like Shelley. So, he helps her to create a rebellious program by putting a thousand-dollar cheeseburger on her menu. Don’t know what that means? Well, Rich is going to tell you all about it! If you are crafting out a business and want to know what to put out as opportunities for people to work with you then this is really fun! In today’s episode: What it means to be Chief Soul Officer of your own life Creating a way for people to work with you even when your bucket is full Importance of blocking off time for yourself Separating from what society says you are supposed to do Having a thousand-dollar cheeseburger on your menu Why you shouldn’t be nervous about pricing when it is high Reminding yourself that people will pay for what they will pay for How limitation creates real value The difference in strength between present-day self vs. future self Recognizing your own zone of genius Distinguishing between work that will drain us and energize us Links to resources: The Prosperous Coach For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Building a coaching business or a community is like pushing a car, at first, the inertia makes it a really slow process, but eventually, the momentum will kick in. That’s right where Rich’s guest today, Richard, is sitting with his business. Richard is a consultant and a coach who has worked in tech for 20 years. Rich is able to inform Richard of the truth, that he can go find the communities that they hang out in or he can create those communities himself! In today’s episode: Creating communities slowly in order to build momentum Deciding whether or not you’re in it for the long-haul Pushing through the nos to get to the yes Setting up your business to adhere to your strengths and weaknesses Defining what people you are actually looking for Finding where your ideal clients and past clients spend their time Avoiding overwhelm when planning out your mission Links to resources: The Prosperous Coach For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Success is great, sometimes even addictive. It sounds like a good problem to have, but that’s not really the case. Rich’s guest today, Eric, is feeling the effects of that addiction. After reading The Prosperous Coach, Eric took off before he even began working with Rich. He is seemingly living the coach’s dream, having a coaching business with 10 clients at $100k per year. Except, sometimes success hurts. He has all sorts of unique challenges because of the way he set his business up. Instead of helping Eric to reach his goal of doubling his revenue to $2M next year, Rich decides to give him a much bigger challenge that totally shifts the way Eric thinks moving forward. Remember, slow down to speed up, because a goal is a place to come from, not a place to get to. What do you do? We get asked this question all the time. It’s an overwhelming question, but there are very powerful ways to answer. People want to put a label on who you are. There’s no secret that making a career change at the top of your game is an incredibly exciting and scary thought. Consciously leaving a successful career means that somewhere inside, you are searching for the person that you want to be. If you are willing to sacrifice the time, money, and energy to go through the J curve of business, then you can do, “scary.” Once you can do, “scary,” then you can finally figure out what you are worth, so don’t be afraid to charge that amount of money! Prior to becoming coaches, Kyle was a high flying executive who worked 80 hour weeks, Aaron's career was focused on social justice, and Alex produced events that generated millions in revenue in the trade show field. They are each on the search for what they want to create. Rich is able to help Alex identify his dream client, Kyle start to dream about a mission so big that he could make a massive impact on the world, and Aaron let go of being so serious and fear-driven. Once you realize what you really want, then you realize that it’s there for the taking. In today’s episode: Making the shift into something that completely terrifies you Finding yourself in the J curve of business Having more on your plate because you know how to do more Recognizing the real power in hell yes and hell no Reaching the sense of freedom on the other side of emotion Figuring out what to charge for the value that you deliver to people Deciding what’s next once you reach your goals Focusing on the legacy that you want to leave behind Looking for a certain mindset in your ideal clients Pinpointing the dark side of our gifts Learning what you can from your clients’ mistakes Bringing in a sense of play to your coaching to expand your range For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. It’s not what you’re doing; it’s who you’re being when you’re doing that. There’s only one way to do it, whatever “it” is, and that’s your way. Every single one of us is a unique human being who has our own way that we can be successful in our own right, and we can do it that way better than anyone else. It’s hard to realize this because of all of the self-limiting beliefs that are rooted in pressures from social media. Rich’s clients today, Rene and Dan, are having a hard time creating their path in a way that’s genuine to their own person. Rene took a brave step when she decided to become a professional coach just 2 years before she was set to retire from a 28-year successful corporate career. She came seeking permission to pursue her own path. Dan spent most of his career rehabilitating some of the most dangerous and violent criminal offenders in the world before he became a coach. He was searching for the reason why he was not doing what was most important to him. Rich is able to mess with their thinking to the point that they experience their insights in heavy silence. There are thousands of books out there on how to be successful, but the problem is that once you win the race, there’s a tendency to still feel empty on the inside. Once you have reached that pinnacle as a top performer, acknowledgment starts to make you feel lazy. What you don’t realize is that you are so in the zone that this work is effortless for you. Your goal should be to feel lazier as your career goes on. Rich’s guests today, Kacey and Briony, are struggling with these fears. Kacey worked for a decade as a professional opera singer and actor across the globe. Now she is a high-level executive coach, with clients at Google, top TV networks, and on Broadway. Briony was a lawyer who appeared to have it all but on the inside, she felt empty. Leaving all that behind, she went on a journey of personal growth before setting up a coaching business to support high achievers – and those on their way. Remember, this whole rat race is meant to be hard. So when you do something great it’s okay to let yourself win! In today’s episode: Feeling like you’re not fully committed even with great success Experiencing the feeling of laziness when receiving acknowledgment Letting yourself be happy without guilt when experiencing success Where our instinct to look out for danger comes from Knowing that the journey is meant to be hard Allowing life to get better and better every day Being at peace with the way that you do things Hearing yourself through all of the noise on social media Beautiful aspects of creating word-of-mouth businesses Links to resources: The Big Leap For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Sometimes in the business world, less is more. You can’t possibly expect to be great at a million different things, so trying too much at once can result in failure. Remember, money can be the most creative expression of your creativity. Failure is inevitable and needs to happen in order to learn. Don’t be afraid to fail. Rich’s guests today are dealing with their own personal struggles as they transition into the coaching world. Sarah got her Ph.D. in archaeology only to make the move to Portugal, meet the love of her life, and launch a coaching business, which is now oversubscribed. For some reason, she has forgotten just how brilliant she actually is. Tony served as a financial leader for a billion-dollar corporation before building his own financial consulting business. He is struggling to figure out how to bring his genius to his own business. Monica became a manager in the corporate world at 28 years old. For more than 13 years, she was a successful leader in an Austrian bank, yet she is being held back by her fear of failure. Each one will experience their own insight and realize how powerful they really are. In today’s episode: Imposter syndrome and the fraud paradox Believing everything positive that anyone ever says about you Looking to make an impact on your clients’ lives every day Focusing on putting stuff out into the world to see where there is interest Using money as the greatest expression of your creativity Treating yourself as a client in order to change your world Remembering to create for yourself what you do for your customers Giving credit to past failures as stepping stones to where you are now Knowing that is okay to fail Why we as humans are very poor at estimating time Falling into the trap of thinking that you have to set goals Gentle reflection in the time between conversations Links to resources: <a href='https://www.amazon.in/Essent

There’s no secret that making the switch to an entrepreneurial coaching career comes with a great amount of risk. The inevitable drop in the bank account will undoubtedly dampen a coach’s spirit, but to be successful in this game, one cannot measure their progress based on the amount in their bank account. Insight is just the first step on the way to creating your dream life. All of Rich’s clients today are making an uncertain and long transition into a coaching career in search of that dream life. Deborah was the COO for one of the largest local non-profits in the US where she consistently built top-performing teams. As the Chief of Staff to a VP at Google, Eric has helped grow their business past $100 billion. Angela just quit her 6-figure consulting business in search of a change. Each of them has a powerful insight moment when they get very still. The sound of insight is often silence... In today’s episode: Measuring success based on something other than the bank account Blessings that come with being fired Reasons that every part of your body is screaming, “This isn’t safe!” Looking inside for the real answers Differences between a motivational coach and a transformational coach Questioning where your apathy comes from Knowing when you don’t need a client and can breathe Implementing a temporary ban and what benefits come with that Recognizing the opportunities around you all the time For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. In today’s episode: Looking at the different parts of your life as 2 parts of the same person Searching for the authentic version of yourself Being a secret agent of coaching in your industry Framing your conversational tools in order to get your clients excited Changing client mindsets by understanding human behavior Navigating the emotional roller coaster of life and entrepreneurship Asking the right questions when vetting your potential clients Calling it what it is to avoid any guilt on your end and help them relax on theirs The true definition of consulting These are the most powerful words in coaching For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Rich loves his job because he gets paid to dig around in people’s minds. More specifically, he helps people change their view and path in life by guiding them to shift their mindset. Rich has the pleasure of helping two people, Matt and Cathy, to shift their mindsets. Matt is a former VP at a major sports league who he has created multi-million dollar deals. He is looking for value in his time and to find belief in himself. Cathy is a former head of digital marketing during a 14-year, 6-figure salary career in the corporate world, a cancer survivor, and an all-around giver. Being the giver that she is, asking for that monetary value for her coaching services has become a personal struggle for her. Rich is able to shed some light on their greatest competition, the status quo, so that they experience their own moments of insight. These insights will undoubtedly change the futures of their coaching businesses. In today’s episode: Matt’s desired aspects for his future coaching business Expressing the value of your time to your clients Making up stuff about numbers in your own head Coming from a place of compassion and sharing in coaching Giving, taking, and matching in life Selling clients on the experience of coaching Spending too much money to learn about coaching instead of the business of coaching Why they are not saying yes Competing with the status quo Asking powerful questions in order to vet clients Committing to staying in your own zone of genius List of resources: Give and Take Here's a powerful article on the difference between coaches who succeed vs coaches who struggle: https://richlitvin.com/successful-coach-or-struggling-coach/ For most of huma

Most of the time what we're afraid of is what we imagine other people will think. The funny thing is, that is the last thing we should worry about. There’s only one person that you have to live with for the rest of your life, and that’s yourself. Do not let the fear of what others think of you stop you from living before you die. More importantly, if we can learn to ignore ourselves, we can do anything we want. In this podcast, Rich tells a short story by Dave Trott to set the scene for Season Two of 1 Insight. Our gifts are what make us unique and who we are, but every gift we have has a dark side. There are inevitable consequences of what comes so naturally for us. People may just not be ready to benefit from your gifts. Rich’s guest today, Margaux Thévenin, was once in charge of the worldwide marketing strategy for an organization with a half a billion-dollar revenue. She came looking to prioritize her actions, but Rich serves his clients by not always listening to the first thing that they say. Today, he was able to look deeper and crack into Margaux’s real desires and needs. She had 1 Insight that caused her to go silent, then Rich gave her a powerful tool for speaking herself into the room. In today’s episode: Struggling to identify who you really want to work with Filtering demographics vs. psychographics Headlining our professional accomplishments Problems with the zone of genius Where you should strive to take your clients Navigating complexity and uncertainty to establish links for others Learning to live with the dark side of our gifts Establishing a connection between your mind and your body For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Throughout life, your mission should be to collect nos, because no one gets the yes that they are chasing without hitting adversity first. You can never reach that yes without those nos. Rich’s guest today, Chris Hunt, is on his journey to collect those nos. Chris is a forensic accountant who has assembled, organized and led international teams who have conducted high profile forensic accounting investigations across the globe. He's transitioned into coaching and the money isn't coming as fast as he thought. Rich challenges Chris before he can come in the door to collect those nos. Fear is often a mask for desire. When Rich hears that, he looks past the fear and tries to uncover the desire behind the mask. Rich was able to remove this mask with his guest today, Niki Parker. Niki works for the International Red Cross. She set up a coaching program for the World Economic Forum and created an online digital campaign that generated millions of dollars and raised awareness of the environment. Niki tried to sell her limitations and fear to Rich but he wasn’t buying it. Through 1 insight she is able to see that what she thinks is fear is, in fact, the energy she has for her greatest desires. She realizes that she is so busy that she hasn’t sat down to create her specific intentions to focus that energy Intention is powerful. In today’s episode: Having “fear” of the next step Breaking down sexy work vs. cash projects The 4 steps to creating clients with a very simple framework Connecting with and inviting people into a conversation Giving people an experience with coaching Performing the juggling act between dreams and reality Balancing out the ups and downs that come with business Why coaches would benefit from doubling their fees Importance of setting your intentions Knowing that a goal is truly impossible Putting yourself into a community of successful and driven people For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. At some point, it doesn’t hurt to think about the future, but thinking about your big mission can be scary and confusing. Rich’s guest today, Megan Hottman is an attorney who, at 29 years old, founded a law office that exclusively serves injured cyclists. She also races as a professional cyclist, has competed in several World Cups and was even featured on HBO Real Sports. Megan is a top performer on the cusp of turning 40 and is naturally wondering what’s next. Most people live into a default future, but when Rich challenges Megan, she is able to see through 1 insight that her future can be one that leaves an important legacy. In today’s episode: Reaching out for input as to narrow one’s focus on what lies ahead Finding the place where it would serve you to sit in the discomfort Leaving a legacy that you get to choose Looking at your own impact beyond the big wins and measurements The inherent human trait of worrying about what others think of you Creating your own world from the inside out Determining the book that you are scared to write Writing for yourself instead of writing for an audience The most powerful words in coaching For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Marli is the Vice President of an International Pharmaceutical Company which manufactures products for very rare diseases. She's a very accomplished leader and heads up an international team of 60 people. There is no boss more demanding than the one who sits in our seat. It can be quite intense to be an entrepreneur, especially when you have a burning drive to succeed. Rich’s guest today, Erin, is caught between the age-old struggle of when to be patient and when to hustle. Erin is a former Director at two different billion-dollar technology companies. She is making the transition from the high energy corporate world with benchmarks and people of similar mindset around, to the world of being an entrepreneur where she will be out on her own with only with no one else to hold her accountable. It can be scary to leave a familiar environment to head out into the unknown, even if it is killing you, but if you adjust correctly, you can succeed. Remember, what got you here won’t get you to where you need to go next. In today’s episode: What we tend to underestimate and overestimate as humans The moment-by-moment decision of patience vs. hustle Making sure you have the right support network when going out on your own Responding to a calibration issue when shifting the mindset Tracking warning signs of burnout Setting the bar higher for recreation to nurture yourself Keeping the same mindset, even in the absence of certainty Letting things unfold in the moment-to-moment Erin’s experience simmering in the hot seat When to er towards the side of inaction and sit in the discomfort For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Fighting for limitations is something that clients do all the time. As a coach, you need to challenge your clients by not allowing them to enroll you in that story. Parissa, Rich’s client, came in today with that fight for her limitations, but Rich didn’t bite. Parissa is an advisory board member in a female-founded AI startup with a track record of success in the corporate world. She believes that she has a “new coach smell,” and that has caused a tremendous amount of self-doubt. The important thing to remember is that if you have exemplified enough leadership in life then you are not new to coaching. It’s so easy to dismiss your background starting a new career but it’s a vital part of who you are. Remember just how powerful you really are. Don’t think you can do it, know you can! In today’s episode: Hitting your audacious goals and breaking through self-doubt Breaking down the new coach smell and why it’s not real Parissa’s business journey and impact Adding a new skill while knowing exactly who you are Where Parissa’s block is coming from Evicting those things that have damaged your spirit Gaining richness in your life from the rock bottom moments The 3 biggest issues in any organization Why knowing the soft skills of business is vital to survival Pinpointing the places where you judge yourself Acknowledging the truths on the other side of the self-judgments Using a goal as a place to come from rather than a place to get to Practicing what you preach every single day For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. Feeling stuck is never a good place to be, whether it is physically or stuck in life. Today, Rich is talking to his client, Scott, a situation just like this. Scott still has his ‘dream’ corporate job, serving as the Director of Leadership Development at a multi-million dollar corporation, with consulting gigs and coaching on the side. However, due to life circumstances, Scott has become trapped at that job and is looking for a way out. Rich wants to give Scott an insight into what life can look like for him and his daughter if he can balance his life and escape that feeling of being stuck. The problem with the rat race is that even when you win it, you’re still a rat. Create some white space on your calendar; that’s where the miracles occur! In today’s episode: What changed everything for Scott as it relates to his career Recognizing the difference between conventional and exponential success Developing an exit strategy by finding a way to do more work in less time Setting an example of a balanced life for your children Creating more white space on your calendar for more creativity How life can change so dramatically when you break away from “stuck” Conducting a thorough audit of your calendar Deciding what or who your “yes” is so that you know when to say no Crafting out your ideal average day For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching. If your life was to be translated into a series of books, they would be filled with ups and downs, relationships, and experiences, good or bad. You, the main character, would be on a search for your passion and mission in life. However, the most important chapters might be the ones that were never written. What’s the book you are scared to write? Today, Rich is joined by one of his clients, Andre, to talk about those chapters of life and quite literally writing his book. Andre built a successful healthcare business before making the transition into coaching and different forms of therapy. Right now he is working on writing his book on life from his own unconventional insights. Remember, just write, your voice will come! In today’s episode: Andre’s search for his bigger mission in life What Andre wants to leave as his legacy of change Understanding the world of trauma and its microdoses throughout life Writing the book that speaks to those who read it Becoming very aware of your own mortality Chapter titles acting like the language of your people Importance of showing and sharing your work Just write, your voice will come Putting your message out there where it can really serve Links to Resources: Show Your Work For most of human history, it wasn’t called coaching.
