September is National Suicide Prevention Month and for the third year, Avera Health launched its ‘Ask The Question’ campaign. This campaign is built around the research-based premise that being direct can save lives. Asking someone who’s struggling a direct question, “Are you thinking about suicide?” in a caring way can open a meaningful conversation that leads to the person at risk to get help. Childcare Crisis in South Dakota
" It's been a challenging time for parents and guardians around the Sioux Empire when it comes to childcare. Recently, the Apple Tree Children's Centers announced all locations were set to close. This shocking announcement just highlights the growing concern for childcare needs in the Sioux Empire and South Dakota. Two organizations that stepped up to help the Apple Tree Children's Centers were EmBe and the Boys & Girls Club of the Sioux Empire. Despite the difficult childcare needs in our area, there are great resources like Tea Trailblazers and Gimme-A-Break that are ready to help families and kids. "Reading is so essential in today's society. At one point, 50% of kids in school were not reading at their respective grade levels. New data that came out this year now shows that 80% of kids in school are not reading at their grade level. Dr. Bonni Boschee has been an educator throughout South Dakota for over 30 years. Now retired, she created the Read2Soar program in 2006 which teaches kids and even college students how to read, write, and articulate their speech. With the guidance of Dr. Bonni, she is able to scientifically determine each child's strengths and weaknesses in the Read2Soar program. In a matter of weeks under Dr. Bonni and her reaching coaches, kids are reading above their grade level. She is actively looking for new coaches to join Read2Soar this March. Results/TSM Toy Drive with Children's Shelter
"It's the season of giving throughout the Sioux Empire. Results-Townsquare Media is once again proud to partner with the Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety (formerly known as Children's Inn) for the Toy Drive & Gift Wrapping Booth. From now until December 24th (Christmas Eve), you can donate a toy and have volunteers wrap your own gifts with a donation to the Children's Home Shelter. Face It Together
September is Mental Health Awareness Month. One of the many organizations in the Sioux Empire that helps people face their mental illness and addictions is Face It Together. This focuses on one-on-one coaching to help others confront their addictions and move past their struggles with it. Truly, coaches and clients face addiction and substance abuse together. Levitt at the Falls
The 2022 Levitt at the Falls season is about to begin! Embarking on its fourth season, Levitt at the Falls is an outdoor concert venue set to have 50 shows throughout the summer starting with opening night on Friday, June 3rd. Since the start of the Levitt in Sioux Falls, 4,000 musicians have performed for our community. This concert series also gives the city a huge economic impact.
