While most of the country is in full-swing Spring, truckload spot markets are stuck skiing downhill. To make the freight market more interesting, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ramped up inspections for every northbound truck, causing Mexican truck exports to plummet by 80% and drivers to protest and block access to border crossings. While secondary inspections at the border have ended, this will surely affect produce availability and pricing. Justin Maze will break it all down. #TransfixTake Disclaimer: All views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views or positions of Transfix, Inc. or any parent companies or affiliates or the companies with which the participants are affiliated, and may have been previously disseminated by them. As pricing power makes its quick shift towards shippers, what’s the fallout? Volumes slow for dry van and reefer, but intermodal remains steady – likely due to the decreasing demand for the speed. Meanwhile, the number of available trucks with a driver is up approximately 10% and Walmart announced a significant increase in driver pay to offset rising operational costs. Let Justin Maze give you the rundown. Everyone wants to know: Are we heading for a freight recession or just normalizing? The freight market is easing at the fastest pace since early 2021, motivated in part by inflation and high fuel costs. These pain points affect consumers’ ability to buy goods, but also carriers’ ability to operate. Justin Maze looks into freight’s crystal ball. Are we seeing the end of a bull market? Maybe it’s inflation. Maybe it’s the removal of COVID-related mandates, but freight demands, truckload volumes, rates, and tender rejections are all on a downward slope. It’s almost like consumers are nursing a hangover. Let Justin Maze tell you more about the conditions building for a potential bear market. #TransfixTake. This March is and is not like other Marches. While shippers have pricing power in most of the country, the expected arrival of produce season is making capacity scarce in the South and Southeast. However, in an unseasonal twist, freight volumes are decreasing. Is this evidence of inflationary pressures due to fuel prices? Find out more from Justin Maze over at #TransfixTake. The truckload market continues to shift in shippers’ favor, as tender rejections are the lowest since before the pandemic. As East Coast ports gain volumes, how will Southeast capacity fare in produce season? While we wait to see how the Ukrainian crisis will affect the U.S. supply chain, Trucking & Logistics Professionals for Ukraine (TLPU) contributed more than $300,000 in humanitarian aid.
