Today, we'll take you on a journey through rare and unique rye whiskeys, share some hilarious anecdotes from our recent show mishaps, and delve into the science behind aging whiskey. But first, let's talk about the art of whiskey appreciation. We explore the notion that a fine bottle of whiskey can be more than just a drink; it can be a cost-effective alternative to expensive artwork. We recommend the exceptional "rare breed rye" whiskey, priced at $50, as a stellar choice to elevate your collection without breaking the bank. In a lighter moment, we recount a conversation with a friend who sought refuge from the scorching heat. The discussion takes a hilarious turn as we debate the merits of Saran wrap versus vacuum-sealing as a means to prevent leakage. While we may not be experts in the science of whiskey aging, we examine the potential risks vacuum-sealing poses to the aging process, leaving us with lingering doubts. Moving on to the star of the show, we introduce a remarkable fourteen-year-old rye whiskey distilled in Indiana and aged in Kentucky. This whiskey offers a full-bodied aroma of sweet vanilla buttercream, with tantalizing flavors of banana bread, berries, baking spices, and orchard fruits. Its finale is a symphony of orange marmalade and dark chocolate notes. We share our thoughts on this complex and life-changing 90 proof whiskey and debate its overall value. But that's not all; we also have an exclusive sneak peek into the highly anticipated Jack Daniel's single barrel, barrel proof rye. Picked by our esteemed hosts, and Bob & James, this whiskey carries a proof of 133.2 and promises to be a hot commodity. We explore the nuances between different single barrel releases and show you why each has a distinctive character and story to tell. As we sip on our favorite bottle of rye whiskey, we reminisce about hilarious encounters, including a memorable visit to a rest stop in Alabama featuring a chance encounter with an Elvis impersonator. So sit back, pour yourself a glass, and join us as we embark on this whiskey-filled adventure, exploring the wonders of rye, the art of aging, and the joy of sharing a bottle with friends. This episode was produced, in part, by Christian Degrave. Christian sent Will and Greeze a jar full of honey and samples of the Whistle Pig pick they did with Carothers last year. There is a remarkable similarity. After the 15, they try Kentucky Spirit and give it the buy, bar, pass treatment. Finally, they give a brief tribute to Al Young. That's right. We finally did it. The Battle of the Birds. We blind tasted: Old Crow, Eagle Rare, Fighting Cock, Chicken Cock, Kentucky Owl Confiscated, and Wild Turkey 101. And then we ranked them. 6 bird themed whiskeys; a blind flight fight to the death! Then we drink some other stuff. No real 15, because, bourbon. On this episode, Will and Greeze go through a line up of high-proof, single barrel light whiskeys. These were a set that Tarak at Elixir brought into the store as a set: the Four Horsemen of the Whiskey Apocalypse. Will gives some history; Greeze interrupts. Then, after the 15, they try Old Forester 1910, but have to give it a mulligan because they blew out their palates. This is the very first episode in the brand new studio, and so Will and Greeze decide to do something they have wanted to do for a very long time: the entire Orphan Barrel Rhetoric Vertical. Will had collected each year (20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25) and kept them unopened until this tasting, so they would all be fresh cracks. There is no 15 on this episode, but who needs one when you're drinking 6 ultra aged bourbons, each another year older. Because a lot of our PodCaskers have been digging into the archive of the show, Will and the Greeze thought they would give a top 5 list of the best experiences they have had since starting the show. These experiences are whiskey focused, but a common theme emerges from them. It's a wonder that Greeze doesn't cry in this episode. Then, after the 15, the two drink High West Double Rye which was finished in rum barrels. This was a store pick from our buddy Don at Fairview Liquors and Fine Wines in Fairview, TN. This episode is brought to you by our inaugural sponsor: Eagle Rare! Go to EagleRareLife.com and read the stories of people living rare lives, then vote for your favorite. Your vote helps determine who will win $50,000 for the charity of their choice. Voting ends December 5th.

In this very special Barn Night, Will, Greeze, Joe Bourbon, and Chris are joined by our friends Chase and Joshua for a night of competitive blind tasting, and mind-blowing whiskey. The theme for the competition was 100 proof whiskey. Sit back, pour a drink, prepare for greatness.
Sun, October 21, 2018
Yeah, we know it isn't a Star Wars bourbon. Yes, it's a bad joke in the title. Deal with it! First, the guys try James T. Kirk Straight Bourbon Whiskey that their buddy Logan brings over. Then, they go off on some rabbit trails. Then, they talk about the professional wrestling show that they produced: Dojo Pro. Then, they try Smooth Ambler Old Scout American Whiskey Single Barrel Select from Elixir in Spring Hill, TN. The pick is called "Ounce of Responsibility." Finally, Logan makes a request of Tarak from Elixir to name a pick: Tarak the Dinosaur Hunter.

Will and the Greeze tackle some samples sent by listener Alex over a year ago. They are labeled Mystery 1, Mystery 2, and Mystery 3. They will remain a mystery, because it has been so long that Alex lost the list of what he sent us. We think one was a rum. Another may be Knob Creek. Who's to say? Then, after the 15, we drink Warrior Whiskey from Steamboat Whiskey Company. Then, we decided to do another 15, because we were late getting this show out... so why not have a little fun? We drink Old Ezra Barrel Strength. Then, because we have had a good amount to drink, we decide to drink some Old Granddad 114 and pretend like it is a third 15. Enjoy.
Tue, October 09, 2018
A delayed episode, due to Greeze returning from vacation. He's super excited to recount his experience at Disney, that Will just lets him ramble about it for a while. Fortunately, he did have some good bourbon drinks while in Florida. Then, after the 15, they try the Weller 107 "Aged Ham" pick from Southern Whiskey Society.
Mon, October 01, 2018
Will and the Greeze head out to the MADE SOUTH barn for another barn night with Joe Bourbon and Chris. The rules for this round are as follows: 1) all whiskey must be bourbon; 2) proof must be in the range of 101-110; 3) NO GREEZY BLENDS! Also, this is Will's first show back drinking, so what a time to be alive!
Mon, September 24, 2018
First, Will talks about month without bourbon, as it comes to a close. Then, they talk about the stats of the upcoming BTAC release. Which leads to a rant from Will about small business and secondary market and price models... Then, after the 15, Greeze tries Backbone Uncut Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Enjoy.
Mon, September 17, 2018
Greeze goes to the store for him to buy himself some drinks, since Will is still not drinking. He cracks open a canned Chardonnay, so that sets the Greezy mood just right. Then, Will blinds him. Then, after the not-so-15, Greeze tries Slow & Low Rock and Rye. Enjoy.
Mon, September 10, 2018
Will takes a month off of drinking whiskey for Bourbon Heritage Month, and it dominates the beginning of the show. Greeze gets deep, folks! Then, they talk to Andy Chapman from Eat Y'all about an event at Leiper's Fork Distillery on Sept. 25. You can find out more about that at https://eatyall.com/connect-september-25-2018-leipers-fork-franklin-tn/ . Then, they talk about Hunter's Select Barrel Tennessee Bourbon from Leiper's Fork Distillery. Greeze tastes it, while Will only noses it.
Mon, September 03, 2018
This episode is the remainder of the Souther Whiskey Society event, and we cram quite a lot in. We recorded with Jimmy Sharp from the John Emerald Distilling Company in Opelika, AL, Perry Ritter from This is My Bourbon Podcast, Eric Roundtree from Tree House Macarons, and Dixon Dedman. Lots to unpack and we were several hours deep, so just try and take it all in!
Mon, August 27, 2018
This is the first of multiple episodes coming out of Southern Whiskey Society Batch 2. Joining us on this episode are Chris Thomas, Suzie Q from Buffalo Trace, and our buddy Tim Gunderman. More shows to come, but this is a great taste of early in the evening.
Mon, August 20, 2018
First, Will and the Greeze talk about endless shrimp coming in the next few months. Then Greeze brings over some alleged Elmer T. Lee at Barrel Strength, but it was in a mason jar and Will doesn't necessarily believe him. Then they try a blind sample from Brandon Rice, and Will sort of guesses it. Then, after the 15, Will and the Greeze drink some 2017 Birthday Bourbon for in honor of his daughter's birthday. Cheers! Last chance to get tickets to Aug. 25, 2018 SOUTHERN WHISKEY SOCIETY -- www.SOUTHERNWHISKEYSOCIETY.com

This edition of Barn Night we decided to do a cocktail competition, with each cocktail needing an element of creativity added. But before we get to that, we hold a kangaroo court to serve justice on Greeze. He betrayed Joe Bourbon's trust by opening the beaver bourbon at the studio without Joe B. being present. After sentencing, the cocktail competition beings. Below are the recipes if you would like to make them at home. Joe's : Muddled mint, 4 oz Whiskey of your choice (Joe used Rittenhouse Bottled in Bond), 1 squirt of Nellie and Joe’s key lime juice, a splash of sweet tea, Goya Jamaican Style Ginger beer, to taste. Will's : 6 oz Peach Mint simple syrup (2 diced peaches, 1 bunch fresh mint leaves, 1 cup white sugar, just shy of 1 cup of water -- boil peaches, water and sugar until sugar fully dissolved. Stir in mint and let steep until cool), 5 oz bourbon (Will used Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond), 4 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice, 8oz water. Chris's: 1.5oz Weller Antique, 1/2oz dry orange curaçao, fresh mint. Stir everything over ice for 20 seconds then strain into a rocks glass. Splash with an ounce of Ale-8 and squeeze a wedge of orange into the drink. Greeze: 3/4 OLD GREEZY BATCH ONE, 1/4 luxardo cherry jam. “Garnish” with ginger ale, KY Ale 8 stuff, Monster energy drink white can, or Coke
Sun, August 05, 2018
First, Will and the Greeze get in a passionate discussion about Kentucky Owl Batches 1 & 2... and drink both on a fresh crack. That takes up the entire first half the show. Then, after the 15, they drink Russell's Reserve Single Barrel. The rest is in the details. Then, after the 15, they try Lot 40 Cask Strength 12 Year Old Rye. Then Will opens a Rhetoric 24 and they finish the show with it. Buy us a drink at www.patreon.com/thepodcask
Mon, July 23, 2018
First, Will and the Greeze talk about a listener who is doing something incredible, about pirate habits, and about how Greeze would like to attempt to sail across the ocean. Then for the 15, we try something new. Greeze stopped at the liquor store to pick up something we have never tried before and brought it over for us to drink. Will had no idea he was doing this, nor of what quality he was picking. This is a new reoccurring segment we will be calling: Greeze Goes to the Store. Sun, July 08, 2018
Will and Greeze realized, the night before Greeze was leaving for vacation, that they didn't have an episode for the week. So they did a remote show (Will at his own house and Greeze at his), and they let the PodCaskers watch them record it live! They talked about how people's tastes change (like Greeze's new love of Eagle Rare), the perfect bar to try our whiskies ranked "bar," and then Greeze tells the future of what happened to him on the 4th of July (disclaimer: this was recorded before the 4th of July, and he was not actually arrested). Then, after the 15, they try EH Taylor Single Barrel and Greeze apologizes to a listener.
Sun, July 01, 2018
First, Greeze thinks he can stump Will by blinding him with George T. Stagg, William Larue Weller, and Lincoln Road's Jack Daniels Single Barrel Select. He was wrong, for obvious reasons. Then we have some delightful samples from our buddy Jon ( @j5bourbons on Instagram). It includes JPS 25, Dusty 8yr 101 Wild Turkey, Old Rip Van Winkle from the 70s, and some Eagle Rare. Then, after the 15, we try "Not Your Father's Bourbon" that was sent by our listener Matt. It receives the buy, bar, pass treatment. Get tickets to the premiere whiskey event of the south: Southern Whiskey Society -- www.southernwhiskeysociety.com We will be there podcasting and drinking with you fine folks, so you won't want to miss this on Aug. 25, 2018.
Mon, June 25, 2018
Will and Greeze try a line up sent by our friend and patron Aaron Cave. Four Roses OBSQ, Lincoln Road Barrell Bourbon, 15 year old Knob Creen from Cork n Bottle, Old Baldy Batch 1, and Jack Daniels Single Barrel picked by Lincoln Road. Then Will talks about whoopee cushions. Then they try Tin Cup American Whiskey.
Sun, June 17, 2018
Greeze starts off mellow with a simple "hey, guys," but don't let that deceive you. He quickly launches into a vitriolic diatribe against some less than popular candy varieties. Will is then reminded, due to the Greeze's passion, of a new whiskey product out of New Hampshire and decides now is the best time to let his counterpart know about it. It couldn't have gone better if Will had planned it from the start. Then they try Jos. A. Magnus Straight Bourbon from the private barrel selected by NASA liquors in Houston, TX. Can't wait to see how our friend Troy describes this episode. Buy us a drink -- or get invited to digital barn -- by visiting: www.patreon.com/thepodcask
Mon, June 11, 2018
First, Will presents a decanter to Greeze which was gifted to him in honor of all his greezy-ness by our friend Ty. To see a few pictures of the decanter, go join our Facebook group "the PodCaskers." Then, they try a sample also sent by Ty of Breckenridge 105 Bourbon. Then, after the 15, they revisit EH Taylor Cured Oak, which was not enjoyed at Beaumont Night. Enjoy! Will kicks this episode off with a bit of intrigue, as it looks like his mail may have been tampered with. Then they do a blind tasting provided by their buddy Vinh ( @whiskeynimrod on IG) with Belle Meade Honey finished, Old Fitzgerald 11 year Bottled-in-Bond, and Woodford Reserve Batch Strength. However, it ends up not being so blind, as they figure out that they know the order of the whiskey. Then they go to the 15, and have Jim Beam Signature Craft Soft Red Wheat. It is an 11 year old, 90 proof release from Jim Beam a few years back, as a part of the Signature Craft series. All the whiskey in this line was bottled in 375ml bottles. Enjoy. If you'd like to support the show, and receive some killer bonus content: Patreon.com/thepodcask
Mon, May 21, 2018
Pretty straight forward episode, folks. First, Will and the Greeze do a vertical of Blanton's Special Reserve (Green), Standard (Tan), Gold, and Straight from the Barrel sent to them by listener Chuck. And then on the 15, we try Corazon Anejo Tequila aged in Old Rip Van Winkle Bourbon Barrels... because we can! And as a bonus, Will makes Greeze try another rum: Papa's Pilar.
Mon, May 14, 2018
Will and the Greeze run the gauntlet in this episode. First, they realize they planned nothing for this episode and start drinking a side by side of Maker's Private Select and Cask Strength. Then, Will remembers that their friend Brandon sent them four blind samples (which had red dipped wax tops) so they get into that. Greeze revisits Longbranch somewhere in there. Will had to make a last-minute, whirlwind trip to DC for work, and while he was there he decided to stop into the famous Jack Rose Dining Saloon for some dinner and some whiskey. Even though he knew it was a "must do" for whiskey fans, he failed to grasp the immensity of the place. He went on a whiskey journey that may not be topped ever, drinking unicorns throughout the night. Then, after the 15, the guys try Rittenhouse Rye. Check out our newly updated website at www.whiskeypodcask.com
Sun, January 15, 2017
Will and the Greeze start talking about changes in the bourbon industry, Greeze starts ranting, and they do a side by side of Elijah Craig Small Batch vs 13 year age stated... then Greeze rants some more. Then, after the 15, they try Maker's Cask Strength.
Mon, January 09, 2017
Last week the guys were talking about drinking bourbon and coke, so this week they decided to do a showdown. Using red solo cup style shot glasses, they mixed up this classic gameday cocktail with 5 different whiskies: Booker's, Old Fitzgerald, EH Taylor Single Barrel, Heaven Hill 6yr (90 proof), and Sazerac Rye. Then, they blind taste tested each of them and ranked them to find the perfect whiskey 'n coke. Then, after the 15, Will and the Greeze try Col. E.H. Taylor Single Barrel neat and give their buy, bar, pass rating for it. Enjoy.

Paul Steele of the Steele Speakeasy (sometimes called the Patron Saint of Bourbon by the PodCask) had Will and the Greeze back over for some good bourbon. As you'll hear, we planned on drinking 6 whiskies and ended up drinking 9. Two bourbons we drank were dusties bottled in the 60s: Austin Nichols Wild Turkey and Ezra Brooks 12 year. Among other things tasted: 4 from the Parker's Heritage collection, Old Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond, William Larue Weller 2016, 1792 Port Finish. ALSO -- the great Brita experiment with Wild Turkey happens in this... don't miss it!

It's a new year, and Will and the Greeze have a casual conversation about some of the things they've learned. Specifically, they talk about how they love the relationships built around whiskey, the progression from mixed to neat bourbon, and a few stories mixed in. Then, after the 15, they try Jim Beam Bonded bourbon. They thought it would be a good idea to try something more accessible, after last week's BourbonPaloozaExtravaganza. Enjoy.

We had an idea with our buddies Chris ( @MadeSouth ) and Joe Bourbon ( @bourbonfindoftheday ) to get a bunch of friends together and have a bourbon tasting for the ages. Each bottle we brought had to have a story behind it. Chris's friends over at 8 Lavender Lane catered the party with delicious southern fixin's. Although this was our Christmas party, it's focused on the whiskey, so it can be enjoyed at anytime of the year. Here's the bottle list: Blanton's Straight from the Barrel, A Midwinter Night's Dram, Kentucky Owl Batch 6, Van Winkle Special Reserve 12yr Lot B, 2014 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, 2016 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, Abraham Bowman finished in Touring & Merlot wine barrels, Elijah Craig 23 year, Col. E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof, Old Blowhard, and Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 15 year. It was a night with friends that will not soon be forgotten, nor topped. Listen as we tell stories and drink fine whiskey with friends. It's a long one, but we think you'll like it.

Will and the Greeze dive into the bourbon world outrage of the week and discuss the price hike on Booker's bourbon. Then they go to the parking lot of the local movie theater and pregame the new Star Wars film Rogue One by drinking Whistle Pig 12 year. This was an idea the Greeze had back when we started the show, and his dream came true on this chilly December day. No movie spoilers, just parking lot drinking.
Mon, December 12, 2016

Will and the Greeze can be slow sometimes. They missed an opportunity to thank and honor our nation's veterans on, you know, Veterans Day. So on this Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (December 7, 2016), they sat down with a member of our armed forces and talked about whiskey. While this show is light hearted, it is important to remember the sacrifice of the members of our military on days like today. They were honored to sit and drink with a member of our military and encourage all of you to thank the men and women in uniform to have fought to protect our rights. Then, after the 15, the guys drink some Military Special Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. You'll hear what they think of it...

Will and the Greeze debate their differing philosophies over opening bottles of bourbon or whiskey. Will is an "open everything" guy, and the Greeze has a panic attack over the thought of opening a new bottle. In fact, Greeze tries to have a back up of rare bottles before he will consider opening the one he has. After they debate the merits, Will holds an intervention for the Greeze and forces him to open something new. That bottle is from the 2016 Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey, and they review it for the 15.

Greeze talks about his experience being the first person in an entire medical system's files to catch the flu this season. Will thought it was only appropriate to dole out some medicine in the form of Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style, coming in at 115 proof. It is in the style of the whiskey produced by Old Forester during prohibition and only available by prescription. The guys also have their buddy Aaron sitting in the studio, and get his thoughts on the bourbon. Then, after the 15, Will and the Greeze drink J.W. Dant Bottled-in-Bond.
Sun, November 20, 2016

Then, after the 15, they try Stagg Jr., a high proof offering from Buffalo Trace. This is the second week with the new rating system "Buy, Bar, or Pass," but the guys forgot all about it during the recording. Greeze was a sport and called in while sick in bed to ensure we keep this new rating system apart of the show. Cheers!

It's time... Will finally tells the story of how the Greeze got his name. Will and the Greeze divert off bourbon during the topic portion and just tell a few stories. They bring it back to bourbon by telling a story about Will nearly running over a friend in a liquor store parking lot. Then, after the 15, Will and the Greeze sample Michter's Limited Release Barrel Strength Rye and implement a new rating system.

Will and the Greeze try a bottle of bourbon which Greeze picked up months ago, and Will has continually ridiculed Greeze about: American Barrels Small Batch Fine Whiskey. It's essentially an extremely young whiskey in a shotgun shell shaped barrel. We took the dive to see if Greeze was duped by marketing or he's a genius bourbon handicapper. Then they move on to try Heaven Hill Green Label: a 6 year old bottom shelf gem.
Mon, October 10, 2016

Sun, October 02, 2016
Will and the Greeze were invited to a party at the George Dickel Distillery in Tullahoma, TN. The only problem is that the Greeze had to go to his wife's family reunion the day of the event. So Will too their good friend Danny in the Greeze's stead. The result? Danny and Will had the time of their lives, and the Greeze missed out. In this episode Will and Danny tell about their evening at Cascade Hollow and all the whiskey (or whisky, as the folks at Dickel spell it) they drank. Then, after the 15, Danny and Will introduce the Greeze to George Dickel Superior No. 12. Cheers!

Wil and the Greeze have been asked many times to have some cocktails on the show. The only problem is the best cocktails they can make involve Evan Williams and a cola. Fortunately, their instagram friend Tim ( @timmergund ) actually knows what he is talking about. He walks the guys through two amazing whiskey cocktails: one classic and one a modern variation on that classic. Also, make sure that you check out the Greeze's new instagram ( @therealgreeze ) and our spin off show ( @gamedaymix ). After they feel they have sufficiently covered the topic (i.e. they get really thirsty), they move on to the 15. In this episode, they try Sazerac Rye, a.k.a. "Baby Saz."
