In today’s episode, I’m joined by one of my real-life clients turned real-life friends— Sierra Devin , a Nashville-based wedding photographer who brings heart, hustle, and authenticity into everything she does. We talk about her journey from a small town in Georgia to the big (and very creative) city of Nashville, what it actually looks like to build a photography business from the ground up, and the mindset shifts she had to make when outsourcing for the first time. She also shares what it’s been like growing her brand and showing up online in a way that truly connects with her dream couples ✨ We cover: Her photography start during COVID (with a baby camera and zero expectations) The behind-the-scenes of moving to a new city and rebuilding her business What it really means to invest in your business and yourself The importance of building a brand that’s both strategic and soul-led Why outsourcing social media was a game-changer—and how she learned to let go of control (kind of 😉) If you're a creative, a photographer, or someone who’s ready to grow your brand with a little more strategy and a lot more heart, this one’s for you 🫶 🎧 Press play and get ready to take notes (or at least feel a little more seen)! Social media is just another type of marketing that focuses directly on your audience online! Focusing on WHO your audience is. Depending on the type of business you have whether it be a local business, or maybe you sell a physical product or you sell a service, or even sell digital products. You have to first get into the minds of your consumers. They will tell yo to want they want, but you have to first find out what they NEED. Maybe they are a local coffee shop, and they think they want more followers on Instagram and virality on TikTok but what they really need is more people coming to their coffee shop and sharing about it. That completely shifts the focus as to who and how you are marketing. Instead of posting 10 more times each week, maybe they need to host an in-person event or get a local influencer or photographer to take photos in the coffee shop and market it to their audience. If you are an online business owner, you need to understand and ask WHERE is our audience online. Where are your buyers shopping, and what are they attracted to online? Both of these businesses (one a physical business and one an online business) they both need the same things. More leads, more traffic, and more strategic marketing. Bring VALUE to them without them having to pay you for it. I’m going to stick with my two examples from earlier. The coffee shop and the online business owner, let’s even say she’s a business coach. You might ask, how can a coffee shop bring value without a customer paying them? This could look like a coffee shop showing how they make their “drink of the month” or teaching practical coffee tips online. Heck, even hosting an in-person event to teach something fun about coffee making! (not going to lie, i would totally go to this lol). Because you know what coffee lovers love even more than coffee? Fun, energetic, involved coffee shops. We love the experience. Give your audience the experience online first and they will be running over to your local shop faster than you can say “ can i have a caramel macchiato”. For the online business coach or business owner, this looks like sharing what you KNOW. You don’t have to share every part of your step-by-step process but give them an easy valuable how-to. Something they can implement today. Maybe you’re a business coach and you could create a graphic about “3 steps to starting your business in 2023” You want to give them something they can do today or in the next week and get results. Once they get results from your simple methods, they going to be asking you “soooo do you have any openings right now”. Trust me! I’ve been on both the side of the business owner and consumer. I know exactly the type of person I want to buy from and it’s ALWAYS someone that I see is 1) bringing me value before I even buy from them and 2) Showing up as an expert in their field. Direct them from your social media to your email list. You can do this by creating a freebie that gives them the value and information

What I’m doing to start out 2023 the BEST possible way: #1 I am prioritizing rest & restfulness. By this I mean focusing on what it means to seriously rest. Not just grab my laptop and work from the couch at night but really ENJOY my life. I tend to struggle with workaholicism if that’s even a word. Mainly because I really do LOVE what I do with my business which is working with clients on their social media and marketing. I truly love it. But just because you love something doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have boundaries. #2. Setting boundaries in my work and personal life. #3. Creating daily and weekly disciplines to BETTER who I am as a person and in turn how I show up to the world. #4. Focusing on what is working instead of what everyone else is doing. #5. Quieting the noise in order to hear more from God in my life. #6. Focusing on areas I want to grow and hone in on what I’m good at. Anybody struggle to try so hard to control every part of their own story? I know I have. It feels easier to try and control the narrative than allowing God to do what he says he will do. Giving up control of your life takes faith. It doesn't mean we don't continue to work & pursue what God has put on our hearts to do. It just means we walk in obedient faith instead of in self-reliance. We CHOOSE to trust that God who knows the beginning, middle and end knows BEST for us. So many people let their past control who they are in the present and even who they want to become in the future. The enemy will do everything he can to make you believe you aren’t able to do XYZ because of your past. He will remind you of everyone who told you that you were a failure and mess up. God, however, will tell you a different story. Romans 8:1 “Therefore there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Listen, friend, Jesus died for OUR sins while we were still sinners. He has seen our past, he sees our present and guess what, he can see our future. He knew we would make mistakes. He loves us anyway. He chooses us in knowing everything about who we are (the good, the bad, the ugly). But you know what, God is so good. He sees who we can be with Jesus. I say all of this to remind you that you are not a lost cause. Your past doesn’t have to define you. No matter what you have done (publicly or privately). God can use it for GOOD. Let's get real! Dating can be super frustrating, right? Especially in the online and social media world we live in. So many of my friends who are single and looking to date always struggle to really find someone worthwhile. It seems as though the intentionality behind dating has been thrown completely out the window. Our generation wants something that is easy, quick, and comfortable. We want everything to come easy and the moment it gets hard we are packing up and out the door before something gets “too hard” for us to handle. How valuable is a potential relationship to you? If you are just dating for “fun” you might not care to bring intentionality into that relationship, but don’t expect that relationship to be life-giving or beneficial to you in the long run. The relationships that truly last are the ones that you put work into. It takes WORK on top of a hundred other things. Dating today is hard. That is exactly why I recorded this episode. Let's dive into all the Dos and Don'ts of Dating! What is a red flag? Google says usually a warning of Danger For this generation, it is almost always used in reference to bad quality or an alarming character/personality trait or action that a person is doing. God’s word tells us to Guard our hearts: Proverbs 4:23: Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Ephesians 5:6-10 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. There is no denying that we are to guard our hearts and also be discerning when it comes to life but also our relationships. In this podcast episode Part 3 of the Dating: the good, the bad, the red flags. I’m going to go over the red flags you need to look for when dating/pursuing a relationship! Let me be clear - sometimes when you are pursuing a relationship and dating someone you are really interested in - sometimes you miss the red flags bc you desperately want the relationship to work. 2 The red flags you ignore in the beginning are usually the same ones that end the relationship. The person you are interested in does not mix well with your family or friends. the make you compromise your values They make you feel guilty for doing things with your family and friends instead of them. And try to isolate you to where you only hang out and focus on them. They do not take responsibility but place blame elsewhere. You guys are not on the same page with it comes to your relationship with God. They constantly tear down others just to make themselves look better. No matter what you do or say, they are always unhappy and frusterated about something. They dismiss your boundaries and try to make excuses to cross them. Green Flags: They respect your boundaries and encourage you to pursue your relationship with Jesus They put forth effort and respect towards your parents and friends. They support you by pushing you towards your goals and dreams They are their own individual person and are not co-dependent on you. Their words match their actions They admit when they are wrong or have done something wrong or have hurt your feelings and apologize. Open to honest conversation. Listen no one is perfect but that doesn’t mean you should continue to ignore red flags that you know deep down are red flags. If you find yourself constantly making excuses for the rude or immature behavior of the person you are dating or interested in… really reflect on if the relationship you are in is good for you? If you've been someone who has struggled with bad relationships and bad dating experiences, this episode is for you. I hope Part 2 of this series gives you some helpful tips and advice on learning how to ask the hard questions on the front end of the relationships you are pursuing. You don’t have an end goal, so there will likely be more confusion as to what the relationship is moving towards If you aren’t intentionally dating and you have not had open conversations about the future with each other, you might end up falling in love with someone that doesn’t see a future with you Even if you are just in the “talking” stages or getting to know each other, it’s a good practice to open up about your intentions and ask the person their intentions. The more you communicate upfront about your intentions in talking/ going on dates - the more likely to avoid heartbreak and disappointment Questions to ask: Ask yourself why do I want to date this person? Do they have godly characteristics I want in a future spouse? Are they genuine? Are they going to church or being a “good person” just for you or are they following Jesus Separate from you? Dating in today's world can be extremely complicated, difficult, confusing, overwhelming, and disappointing. But what if instead of dating to just date, you could date with a purpose? What if by focusing on the WHY behind your reason to date, would actually simplify the dating process? Finding clarity starts in asking yourself the hard questions first instead of expecting someone else to answer those questions for you. Determining now how you date, will actually lay out the course of how you communicate, relate, and connect with your future spouse. What you do now, matters. How and who you date today, matters. You have the choice today to understand not only the good parts of dating, but the Godly parts of dating. Who are we to be and how are we to act in the dating world? What does God's word say about this? Listen in to this week's podcast to hear a full discussion on this topic! As I recently announced that Wyatt and I bought a house, I had a moment of remembering what it was like every single day before we bought the house, before we knew what God would provide or when he would... It is SO easy to praise God when things fall into place and you see your prayers come to fruition. It is so HARD to trust God when your life looks nothing like you thought it would. All of us 20-something-year-old people are in a decade where almost all of our friends are either celebrating: Engagements, Marriages, Dream jobs, Success, Babies, or Buying Houses. Let's be clear, you don't have to have a big milestone in your life in order for your life to MATTER. I believed that once I got engaged, got a house, got a good job and then got married that I would finally "have my life together." The hard truth is, is that while all of those things are amazing, they can't fulfill us. Once you check off one, you just simply move on to the next. Do not fall into the lie that your life has to look like your Pinterest board you've been posting on since you were 12. Pinterest and you stand no chance against a God that has an amazing, purpose-filled plan for your life. Just be faithful in the little, everyday things and God will continue to show up in the big, crazy, unexpected ways he always does. Let's get real today. More likely than not, is talked about in the crowds you are in very often. In most situations, it is discussed outside the context of marriage too. It has turned into something so causal that we do not even blink an eye when it comes up on our TV screens, Tiktoks or conversations. I'm not saying you can't have conversations about , I am saying that we have become so comfortable with talking about outside of what God designed it to be. I will be the first to raise my hand and say I am not the poster-child for purity. I have made my fair share of mistakes that could've been prevented if boundaries would've been set. That's why the conversation on the podcast today is SO important. This episode dives deep into God's view of , purity culture, and how it has affected our view of purity as a generation. Ashley also shares how we can set healthy boundaries for our dating relationships. It's no shock that is a frequently talked about subject in all groups of people. It is almost taboo in most Christian circles. However, God's word tells us that God (the creator of all things) created for marriage. We have so many voices telling us how we should feel about our sexuality and how plays a role in our relationships. We live in a very -positive culture that empowers women and men to do whatever they want when they want with no strings attached. And that sadly is far from the gift that God created to be. In this episode, Ashley tells her story of making the choice to not only pursue purity but focusing on the purity of her heart. No matter your story or even what you are going through right now God wants you to live in the freedom of grace. When we step into something outside of the boundaries that God has set, we set up ourselves to get hurt.
