#138: How I Landed My First Teaching Position: My Interview Story
When I applied for my first teaching position, I was TERRIFIED districts wouldn't take me seriously because I was only 21 years old. I had just graduated with my masters, and I had wanted to teach since I was 5 years old. Fast forward to Spring of 2018, I flew from Oregon to New Mexico for two different job interviews. Both of which regard me to teach a demo lesson. I turned my biggest weakness as a teacher into my biggest strength. Or have you ever came in with the perfect morning ever and your students were absolute sweethearts? It's no secret that the energy you bring to the work-day matters. Our students are a great amplifier of what kind of energy we are coming in the mornings with. Which is why from the beginning of my teaching career I have had a consistent morning and leaving routine that has completely changed my teaching experience. One of the top questions I get asked is 'how do I automate my classroom?' Well today I'm talking about one of the MAIN strategies I myself and the teachers I have coached have used to make our classrooms run on autopilot. And that is utilizing classroom routines. So you just completed your first or next teacher interview and you're wondering what you should do next. This week we are diving into the different sections you should have in your follow-up email after your teacher interview. In general I recommend following up with a district 1-2 weeks after the interview. You can even complete this the day of your interview and then schedule it out a week later so you don't have to worry about it. This same rule applies when you are following up on an application.
