This week, I sit down with the Wicked Wiccan Sisters and discuss haunted places and paranormal psychology. I think you'll really like this one, particularly if you've experienced paranormal happenings yourself or have had a visitation from someone who has passed on. Huge thanks to WWS for sitting down with me. This is the last episode of the season. The podcast will now go dark for a few weeks while I organize and do some research. Hello dear listeners and thanks again for tuning in. This week I present to you a haunting tale by Bernard Capes entitled “The Thing in the Forest,” published in 1915. At this point in the season, I’ll be taking a little break to focus my attention on my other passion project, my literary journal. The slush pile is quite deep, per usual, so I’ll be returning after the summer issue drops on July 1. At that point, only two episodes remain for the season. A researched episode and my end of season interview. Stay Spooky and I’ll be back soon. 😊 Digitized Copy “The Thing in the Forest”: https://dn790001.ca.archive.org/0/items/fabulists00capeiala/fabulists00capeiala.pdf Featured Podcast: Moustachioed Podcastio https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-moustachioed-podcastio/id1516217740 Other PodMoth Network Shows: https://podmoth.network/ Some Background music provided by: https://stocktune.com/free-music/whispers-in-the-void-24438-35445 https://stocktune.com/free-music/whispers-in-the-void-24438-35445

Hello dear listeners and a very happy spooky season to all of you! This week, I bring you my customary interview for the end of season 10. I'm joined by Nathan R. Stenberg of the Pennhurst Memorial and Preservation Society for an in depth conversation about the past and current views on disability in the US and the work currently being done to change laws that inhibit disabled people. We also talk about the history of Pennhurst Asylum, what it may have been like for residents, and what's happening with the property at present. I had a blast chatting with Nathan and hearing about everything Pennhurst. Hello dear listeners and welcome back to a new episode! This time around I wanted to share something kind of special considering my brush with death. Please enjoy this original folklore tale created by yours truly. Also, please note that this is episode 5. The next episode will feature an interview, as is custom. At that point, I'll see where I am in terms of recovery, but I may take a break from podcasting until the beginning of next year in order to focus on getting the winter issue of my literary journal completed. I'll update in the next few weeks. Cheers! Hello dear listeners, and welcome back to another episode of The ODDentity Podcast on the PodMoth Media Network, your foray into the weird, wonky, and sometimes downright spooky. This week, I offer a tale that weaves together spiritualism, Harry Houdini, and a detective named Rose Mackenberg. As you may remember from a past episode, Houdini wasn’t a fan of spiritualists. Bad Acts: A True Crime Podcast Ep. 45-Toxic Love: The Murder of Michael Redlick In January 2019, police arrived at a home in Winter Park, Florida to find Danielle Redlick covered in blood. Her husband Michael lay dead in their living room. Danielle told authorities Michael stabbed himself to death, but the couple's history of domestic violence and the medical examiner's report suggested otherwise. With friends and family telling tales of Danielle abusing Michael, it's clear domestic violence was present in the Redlick home, but was Danielle a victim, too? Hello dear listeners and welcome back to another episode of The ODDentity Podcast on the PodMoth Media Network, your bi-weekly foray into the weird, wonky, and sometimes downright spooky. If you’ll permit me, I’d like to take a moment to thank you all for your messages of condolence and your unwavering support over the last few weeks. It was truly appreciated and made me realize even more how much my listeners and my podcast community mean to me. This week, I present you with a Victorian ghost story. Part 1 of it, at least. It’s a little longer, so the next episode will feature the tale’s conclusion. Some of these stories are so wonderful and yet they don’t nearly get the readers and appreciation that they deserve. The Victorians were keen on ghost stories. We have that in common. So, settle in next to the fire, pull the blankets up to your chin, and try to ignore the shadows lingering at the edge of the firelight. I’m sure they’re all conjured by your imagination. This story and books within this collection are public domain, free to use and reuse, and are provided by the Library of Congress. Sources: Kipling, R. & Carpenter Kipling Collection. As you all know by now, I receive a lot of listener submitted tales of the weird and paranormal. It’s getting to a point that I’m having to have one show per season that focuses on these stories alone as my email is ready to burst. This time around, I thought I’d pull out some submissions that focus on travel (short trips and longer ones) and hotels/motels. Traveling and staying in an unfamiliar place can be stressful and you never know what sort of things you might encounter. Hello dear listeners and welcome back to season 8! This week, I bring you a special episode about Bellaire House and the book Paranormal Confessions by Kristin Lee. The stories surrounding this property are many and some of them are truly disturbing. For the purposes of this episode, I won’t go into too much detail about the paranormal happenings, simply because the book was only released this year and if you want to know all the details, you should pick up a copy. It’s a great read especially since we’re heading into spooky season. And now…on with the show! Show Notes: Visit podgo.co to monetize your podcast! Hello dear listeners and welcome back to the final episode of the season. You are listening to The ODDentity Podcast on the PodMoth Media Network, your foray into the weird, wonky, and sometimes downright spooky. As is custom, this episode features an interview. This week I welcome Jonathan Johnson of West Virginia Paranormal. West Virginia Paranormal Investigations was founded in 2007 by cousins Jonathan Johnson and Richard Riley as a way to further understand the world of ghosts, hauntings, and the paranormal. I had a great chat Jonathan and his group have uncovered some pretty amazing stuff. We talk about the team's investigations of some famous (or rather infamous) haunted places along with a discussion of some lesser-known locations and Jonathan talks about how he got into paranormal investigations in the first place. If you've ever wanted to know more about how paranormal investigations actually work, you're in for a treat. A huge thank you to Jonathan and the crew at West Virginia Paranormal. Cheers to many more investigations and stay safe out there! That's it for this week and this season, dear listeners. The ODDentity Podcast will take its usual summer hiatus but will return in the fall with more tales of the creepy, weird, and paranormal. Until then. Stay Spooky. Hello dear listeners and welcome back to another Off Week Weird, brought to you by The ODDentity Podcast on the PodMoth Media Network, your foray into the weird, wonky, and sometimes downright spooky. This week, I revisit the topic of immurement, another topic that was covered way back when I had a cohost and really deserves to be recorded in the new format. So, find a comfy arch and flatten yourself against the wall while I brick you in. Don’t worry. I’ll bring some pancakes to slide through the food slot a little later. Hello dear listeners and welcome back to another episode of The ODDentity Podcast on the Podmoth Media Network, your foray into the weird, wonky, and sometimes downright spooky. This episode contains subject matter that may be unsuitable for some listeners. Discretion is advised. There's a lot to read here, so the TL/DR version is: Buy a shirt: bonfire.com/oddmaste Episode 6 might be delayed. If it is, it will drop in July as I've got a lit rag to publish in June. I'll keep you posted. :) I'm re-recording some of the cohosted content from the podcast's past so it better reflects the new format. Not the TL/DR version: As you know, this podcast has been around since 2017 and has gone through a couple of cohosts. In an effort to make sure the content from cohosted episodes gets some play (I removed the cohosted episodes as they were low audio quality and don’t represent what the podcast is today) I’ve gone back through the archives to ferret out some of the research that really shouldn’t fall to the wayside. There are hours upon hours of research sitting in the old Haunt Heads binder and I want to make sure it sees the light of day. To that end, I’ll be recording some of these as solo episodes so they’ll match the current format and sound quality. Way back when there weren’t too many ear holes tuned in and I’m hoping that hearing these tales in the new format will bring you weird and wonderful joy. Before we get started, I just wanted to let you know that a new shirt is available on the Bonfire site. I think it’s one of my favorites so far. The shirt reads, “ODDmaste /noun/ the oddness in me honors the oddness in you.” Do I do yoga? No. Have I ever done yoga? No. But if you’re into yoga or not and you're certifiably odd like me, you’ll agree that this shirt is a must-have for any oddball. Makes a great gift for that loveable weirdo in your life. Visit bonfire.com/oddmaste to purchase! On to a little podcast housekeeping. This is episode 5 which means there are only two episodes left before the end of the season. I have someone lined up for our episode 6 interview, but if the timing doesn’t work out just right, that episode might have to get bumped for a few weeks. There’s also another Off Week Weird coming your way next week, so keep your eyes peeled for that. Bumping episode 6 back might mean the end of the season won’t come until July 5th. I also run a literary journal and will need the month of June to get the spring/summer issue in order. Last but not least, at the end of this episode there will be an advert for a pod on the PodMoth Network as well as an ad for the Fireside Phantoms Podcast. Take a moment to give those great pods a listen and subscribe if you haven’t already. Link to original article: https://hauntheads.wordpress.com/2017/05/09/chillingham-castle-most-haunted/ <

This week in honor of National Paranormal Day on May 3rd, I present to you a throwback episode, way back when this podcast was known as Haunt Heads, prior to rebranding. This episode takes you to Seven Bridges of Grant Park in Milwaukee. It’s an older recording, but the content is interesting. See how many strange sounds or voices you can pick out that aren’t part of the ambient noise. I found some tidbits and attached them to the end of the episode so you can hear what I heard (or didn’t hear) during our excursion. The other voices you hear are that of Mimi and Bill Stephen. Mimi was my cohost way back when and we had a lot of fun podcasting together. Without further delay, here is Season 1, Episode 17 of Haunt Heads. Seven Bridges of Grant Park. Stay Spooky!

Hello, dear listeners, and welcome back to another episode of The ODDentity Podcast on the PodMoth Media Network, your bi-weekly foray into the weird, wonky, and sometimes downright spooky. This week, I introduce you to Catherine Crowe, known by many as the mother of the paranormal. Crowe is credited widely for helping to lay the groundwork for the founding of the Society for Psychical Research in 1882 and her book, The Night-Side of Nature was the first published work of its kind to consider scientific inquiry of paranormal phenomena. Crowe’s classification system for spirits and phenomena remains relevant to this day. The Night-Side of Nature can be perused for free on The Gutenberg Project website. I’ve popped the link into the show notes in case you want to check it out. I’d also like to remind you all that merch is available on our Bonfire site. Each shirt is made of soft, premium fabric (a 50/50 cotton/poly mix) and makes a perfect gift for that special weirdo in your life. All proceeds from shirt sales go toward hosting costs and will help to keep the weird coming for another year! This week, with Halloween fast approaching, I dug through the archive of listener submitted stories and came up with some real doozies. Some contributors have asked I not use their real names and some names have been omitted from the stories you’re about to hear to conceal the identity of those involved as there was no way to get permission from them. I hope you enjoy the compiled spooky stories and I hope your Halloween will be full of fright and delight. Before we get started, I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to submit their personal experiences to me. It’s hard to come forward with this type of information because there is so much doubt surrounding paranormal experiences and I appreciate the courage it took to let me share these with the podcast community. Episode 12 is fast approaching and features an unforgettable interview with Michelle Belanger. It was all I could do to fangirl my way through this interview and Michelle was such a gracious and wonderful interviewee. This interview will bring Season 6 to a close. Next season will be shorter, 6 episodes, and episodes will drop bi-weekly, but the podcast format will remain the same. 12 episodes per season can be a little stressful, particularly when I tackle complex topics like Jack the Ripper that require 3 episodes to touch on everything. Rest assured you’ll still be able to get your spooky on with The ODDentity Podcast. I hope to continue making videos featuring my odd collection as well, so stay tuned for those. I’d also like to let you all know how much I appreciate your support and continued subscription to this podcast. You’ve got a lot of choices in terms of the spooky and weird and you choose to listen to me wax poetic about all things odd and macabre. I appreciate your continued support. Hello dear listeners, and welcome back to another episode of The ODDentity Podcast on the PodMoth Media Network, your weekly foray into the weird, wonky, and sometimes downright spooky. I know I usually only do one interview per season, but I took in the Milwaukee Paranormal Conference last weekend and was wowed by a member on their panel. Melinda Mitchell is an oddball like me who enjoys the weird and macabre side of life and we hit it off. She was gracious enough to give me an hour of her time to chat about the Victorian Era (one of my favorite topics), the romanticism surrounding death at that point in time, myths that persist about Victorian funerary customs, and about her awesome museum to be! The audio on this one is a little odd at times so I did the best I could to clean it up. Before we get started this week, I wanted to give a shout out to all the awesome pods on the PodMoth Media Network. With Halloween fast approaching, the pods on the network have been producing some awesome content that is sure to delight and terrify! Hello dear listeners, and welcome back to another episode of The ODDentity Podcast on the PodMoth Media Network, your weekly foray into the weird, wonky, and sometimes downright spooky. This week, I’ll introduce you to Daniel Dunglas Home, a Scottish physical medium with the ability to levitate, speak with the dead, and produce rapping and knocks in houses at will. His biographer Peter Lamont stated that he was one of the most famous men of his era.Harry Houdini described him as "one of the most conspicuous and lauded of his type and generation" and "the forerunner of the mediums whose forte is fleecing by presuming on the credulity of the public." Home conducted hundreds of séances, which were attended by many eminent Victorians and was considered to be the foremost authority in the practice of mediumship. I’d also like to take a moment to give a shout out to the other podcasts on the PodMoth Network. Supernatural Sisters, a spooky podcast with lots of interesting topics produced by two sisters, The Real Facts Podcast, a pod that uncovers the real truth about the real world, Leave the Lights On, a true crime/paranormal podcast, and The Lost Signal, a pod that features original audio plays of the pulp and macabre, and Watchers Movie Podcast, a pod that brings you spooky listener stories, and horror movie reviews! Hello dear listeners, and welcome back to another episode of The ODDentity Podcast on the PodMoth Media Network, your weekly foray into the weird, wonky, and sometimes downright spooky. After completing the research on Jack the Ripper last week, I came to the realization that this topic is so large that it actually needs a part 3. So, this week I’ll tackle the last 2 canonical Ripper victims and also discuss the top 5 suspects for Jack the Ripper as well as take a look at more recent suspicions of who the Ripper may have been. I was going to incorporate all of the remaining information into a second episode but felt that the victims of Jack the Ripper deserved the extra airtime. If you’ve not yet listened to part 1 or part 2 of the Jack the Ripper series, please do so before listening to part 3. I’ve been podcasting since 2017 and I thought it was about time I created some merch. I know, I know, it’s way past due. Merch is now available at Shop.spreadshirt.com/oddpodmerch. There are a few to choose from and I think you’ll like them. There are also lots of options from mousepads and buttons to tees and hats. From now until September 25th, all orders are 15% off! Show off your weird side and support your favorite podcast! Before we proceed further, please note that the information in this episode may be distressing to some listeners. Listener discretion is advised. The ODDentity Podcast is brought to you on a weekly basis by host Janine Mercer. Hello dear listeners and welcome back to another episode The ODDentity Podcast on the PodMoth Media Network. This week we tackle the second installment of the Jack the Ripper series, delving into the list of victims and the communications the Ripper sent to police. Upon finishing this week’s script, I realized that the two-part series will actually be a 3-part series. There’s just no way to fit everything into part 2. Therefore, I’ll cover the final 2 canonical Ripper victims and the list of suspects next week along with the newest information about Jack the Ripper’s possible identity. If you haven’t listened to part 1, I’d suggest going back to listen to that episode before you tackle this one. I’d also like to take a moment to welcome Kudzu Killers : Homicide and Sweet Tea to the PodMoth Network. Kudzu Killers is a true crime podcast featuring a couple of honest-to-goodness southern gals discussing compelling tales of southern style homicide. Hello dear listeners, and welcome back to another episode of The ODDentity Podcast on the PodMoth Media Network, your weekly foray into the weird, wonky, and sometimes downright spooky. This week I’ve decided to tackle the tale of Jack the Ripper, the vicious killer who stalked the darkened alleyways of London in 1888. Jack began his killing spree in August of that year and spared no violence against his victims. This is the first of two episodes on the Ripper. There’s far too much information here for one episode. This week, we’ll take a look at the mysterious talking board that has horrified and titillated users since 1891. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t had an experience with this particular novelty and surprised to find that there are individuals who have large collections of the boards sitting in their basements. They come in every shape and size, some made from old tabletop and others of pressboard. In this episode, we’ll also look at some of the most highly collectible Ouija artifacts and examine why these boards are still so popular today. We might even venture into the Odd Pod email for a few listener experiences. The ODDentity Podcast is brought to you on a weekly basis by host Janine Mercer. This week, I’ll be taking you to St. Nazianz, a haunted Wisconsin town founded by a heretic priest and a ragtag group of cult followers. It’s been a while since I covered a topic close to home and I figured it was about time to bring it back. This one is going to be fun. Shout out to Jeanette from North Carolina, Nickolas from Australia, Phil from Dublin, and Isiah from Wisconsin for suggesting this topic I’d also like to thank Tony Farina for his wonderful review of my podcast on his blog, Fantastic Universes. This week, I bring you an interview with Cindie Harper, an author and the Director of Historical Research and Paranormal Documentation of Sweet Springs Resort Park Foundation and Sweet Springs Sanitarium in Sweet Springs, West Virginia. Cindie is also the official paranormal documentarian for Sweet Springs Sanitarium. Cindie’s connection to the paranormal runs deep. In childhood, she experienced seeing mist-like apparitions and poltergeist-type activity. She used cassette recorders and cameras to conduct her own paranormal experiments and enjoyed reading and collecting ghost stories. Cindie has many years of experience in paranormal research and maintains an active role within the paranormal community by managing tours of Old Sweet (as it’s affectionately called) and continuing to document paranormal experiences. If you enjoy this week’s episode and would like to learn more about Sweet Springs Sanitarium, you can visit their website at www.sweetspringssanitarium.com . This week, we tag along to the local cemetery with the resurrection men, men who dug up fresh corpses for the purposes of medical study. We’ll examine the history of body snatching, the purpose, and practice, and learn about Burke and Hare, two notorious murderers who were also body snatchers and grave robbers. This episode contains a body under a bed, some wooden shovels, a waving corpse, and some crafty body snatchers. The ODDentity Podcast has 12 episodes per season and the final episode for this season is fast approaching. Episode 12 features that unforgettable interview I mentioned at the start of this season and I think it’s a great note to end on. Season 6 will be a little delayed as I’ve got some other projects that need my attention, but I’m hoping the downtime will be no more than 6 weeks. I hope you’ll still continue to subscribe so you’ll know when the new episodes are available and that you’ll continue to follow me on social media as I’ll still be posting things that I hope will bring your odd little hearts much joy. Hello ODD Pod Listeners, and welcome back to another episode. This week, I tell the tale of the Vanishing Hitchhiker and unravel the urban folklore that surrounds this fascinating legend. It’s an old story, some written accounts dating back to 1948, and it seems as if there are many incarnations of this particular urban legend. I’ll get into the history of this legend, dissect the historical tellings that exist, and introduce you to some theories about how it originated. Hello ODD Pod listeners and welcome back! This week, I bring you an in-depth look at Bodie California and the ghostly history that still lingers within some of the dilapidated buildings. I realized recently that I hadn’t taken you to a haunted location for a little while and I thought Bodie would be perfect. This week, I bring you the tale of a favorite cryptid of mine, The Jersey Devil, and the folklore that surrounds this fascinating creature. This show suggestion has been hanging around for a little while and I thought with all the unknowns we’re dealing with in our crazy world, a cryptid wouldn’t go astray. I’d also like to fill you all in as far as what’s happening in my world right now. Currently, I’m in the process of editing the thesis for my MFA program (a 200-page document) and I’m fitting that in between work and the podcast. For the next couple of weeks, I won’t be posting episodes as I’ll be waist-deep in that document, but I’ll return on the 27th with a new episode. This episode contains a very shitty Benjamin Franklin, a creepy cryptid, and some unreliable news sources. Spiritualism and mediumship, two topics I keep coming back to as this podcast progresses. This week, I bring you the tale of the charlatan who swindled Mary Todd Lincoln and his connections to a presidential assassin and tales of other first ladies who entertained mediums at the White House. I’ll also discuss a medium that Jane Pierce swore was the real deal and even told the woman that, when she resided in the White House, she would bring the woman in via the front door, an illustrious entrance indeed. This episode contains a treacherous humbug, a cranial laceration, a big, haunted white house, and a set of electronic biceps. S5 Ep 6: Q & A This week I answer listener questions about me, the podcast, and my creepy collection. I welcome my dear friend Patti Wolf to ask away and peel back my crusty layers. :D This episode contains MANY excellent questions, a chat about anxiety and treatment, and various dead things from furry to wet. PLEASE NOTE: Patti had to call in for this episode and the audio is a little odd in some parts. I’ve tried to clean it up as best I can, but without a mixer it’s a bit trying. S5 Ep. 4: World’s Fair This week, I’ll be taking you to the Windy City of 1893, the World’s Fair, and introducing you to a, particularly diabolical fellow. A man who saw the fair as an opportunity to swindle and to murder. A man by the name of Herman Webster Mudgett, otherwise known by his alias Dr. Henry Howard Holmes. This episode contains a safe used for a nefarious purpose, the world’s first Ferris wheel, The Windy City, and a Murder Castle. This week, I’d like to thank Cindie Harper, the Director of Historical Research and Paranormal Documentation at Sweet Springs Sanitarium in West Virginia. The interview I did with Cindie will be available on a future episode, but I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for the time Cindie spent talking with me about Old Sweet, the paranormal happenings there, the fascinating history of the place, and the restoration efforts that are ongoing. Thanks, Cindie! I’m so glad I had the opportunity to chat with you. It’s always a treat to meet a fellow paranormal enthusiast and to learn about a new haunted location! Say hi to the spirits for me. There’ll be more info about Old Sweet when that episode goes live, but I do want to let you know that there is an effort to collect funds for the rebuilding and repair of structures at the Sanitarium. S5 Ep. 3: Not in Vein Oddentitypod.podbean.com Boar bile enemas, urine as an antiseptic, and thick needles used to remove cataracts… Medical history is weird and some aspects of it are absolutely horrifying. I mean, I understand that we had to start somewhere. How were we to know that creating a poultice for an open wound using human excrement was a bad idea? We had to try it and see what would happen! Guesswork. All of it. This episode contains bloodletting, other strange practices like cupping (yeah, it makes me uncomfortable, too), and Flying Barbers. This week, I wanted to explore the nightmarish vision that is The Man in the Hat, a common figure seen during what many of us know as sleep paralysis. I’ve tackled my rendition of the creature that causes sleep paralysis in my part of the world on a past episode, The Hag and the folklore surrounding it, but I find it very interesting that The Man in the Hat is a commonality in many American cases of sleep paralysis. This episode contains some unpleasant dreams, listener tales of real-life experiences, and an interesting phenomenon. This week, I wanted to draw attention to the reason for the season: ghost stories. An old tradition from the Victorian era was to tell ghost stories over the holidays in front of a roaring fire and I think it’s a tradition that should be rekindled. This episode contains a little communication history, cave drawings, a little Dickens (among others), and a special holiday treat. Get Social! This week, I present to you one of the most notorious mediums of all time. Even more cringe-worthy (by today’s standards) than The Long Island Medium. I’m speaking of course of Eva Carriere, a woman with the unique ability to produce “ectoplasm” (cheesecloth) from every orifice of her body. She was also super keen on cutting photos out of magazines. This episode contains SO much chewed paper, a 300-year-old spirit, a rousing game of "Hide the Gauze", and a disillusioned German psycho therapist. Get Social! Discussion ranges from Whitehurst’s favorite haunted locations to traditional folklore tales and soul-sucking cats. About Patrick Whitehurst Patrick Whitehurst is a fiction and non-fiction author. He’s also the author of the novellas Monterey Noir and Monterey Pulp, with a third, Monterey Lies, in the works. His most recent book, Haunted Monterey County, reveals the many ghostly locations found in the Central Coast community. This week, Janine introduces us to (supposedly) one of the most haunted places on earth: Dudleytown, Connecticut. Does the Dudley curse keep forest creatures away from Dudleytown? Is there something lurking in the woods surrounding it? Is the Dark Entry Forest Association hiding the true sinister nature of the place? Can the cases of insanity be explained away? We’ll explore the history of the settlement and some of the urban legends surrounding the location. This episode contains sleigh robe stealing shenanigans, the Dark Entry Forest Association, unexplained disappearances, and a beheaded witch hunter. Get Social!
