This week we're focusing most of our brainpower on trying to understand the Ghost Machine timeline - A new connected and unconnected universe of comics on Image from Geoff Johns & friends, which is related to Gieger which you might remember from a few years back, also on Image. Then, Mike D takes us back a couple months to cover a book we missed! Red Light on on AWA, was a fantastic first issue that we recommend for adult readers.

Ha-Cha-Cha! It's another episode of the First Issue Club. This episode Vargas, Mike, & Greg immeditaley get off track talking about the Dice-Man, and Morgan Wallen (I think the throughline being cancellable people who were controversally on SNL). Then, we're getting to comics with a quick chat about Marvel Comic's The Hood before we cover our first issues, speaking of which: Greg talks us through Sean Gordon Murphy's Zorro, and Jonathan Hickman's Ultimate Spider-Man. Andy goes back a week to cover the books we missed over the New Year (due to our best of episode... Check it out), & talks us through The Agent, Skeeters, Kyle Stark's Pine & Merrimac & Joshua Williamson's Duke. Lastly, Mike goes even further back into December to cover Jason Aarons Batman Off-World. If you can't get enough, join us over on our Patreon for bonus episodes, or check out our guest appearance on this weeks BLVD Brewcast where Greg & Mike talk comics and beer with our pals at Boulevard Brewery.

Welcome back, comic book enthusiasts and casual readers alike! In today’s episode, we delve into the captivating world of graphic novels with a focus on a groundbreaking new title that’s creating waves for its daring and poignant representation. We’re thrilled to discuss the launch of an innovative comic book, Holy Roller, featuring a Jewish protagonist who courageously returns to his hometown. The once-familiar streets are now overshadowed by the rise of anti-Semitism, a real-world issue that is boldly tackled within the panels of this daring narrative. We're genuinely excited about the potential for this comic to become a staple in the industry. With a strong narrative and a creative team that’s committed to authenticity and depth, this comic book is poised to leave a lasting mark on the genre. In a landscape often dominated by conventional heroes, the emergence of a Jewish superhero is a significant step forward for diversity and representation in mainstream comics. This protagonist is not only a figure of strength and resilience but also a symbol of cultural identity and pride. Recommended Read : “Lotus Land” Despite some criticisms regarding its depiction of future technology, “Lotus Land” is recommended as a cohesive and immersive detective story set in a well-constructed futuristic world. Listeners are encouraged to explore this tale for its unique take on the genre. As we wrap up today’s enlightening discussion, we extend an invitation to our listeners to join us again for more engaging talks on the latest and greatest in the comic book scene. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to the medium, there’s always something exciting to discover. Remember to tune in next time for another deep dive into the stories that challenge, entertain, and inspire us. Until then, keep turning those pages and exploring the universes hidden within! We're talking give-aways, beers that'll be showing up at Planet Comicon in Kansas City, and their Space Patricks Day party on the 17th at the Planet Comicon convention hall. So big thanks to Boulevard for always sharing beers, sponsoring fun give-aways, and especially for helping out with so many charity initiatives in our hometown, like the ones our own Andy has organized the last few years! Check out our Twitter for more details on winning some Planet Comicon passes from us and Boulevard Brewing Company, and listen to the episode for some convention tips, Quantumania takes, New comic book discussion, and oh-so-much-more! As always you can support us by checking out this weeks Patreon, where we have more beer talk with Adam, and a few fun games Greg organized for the crew at Patreon.com/firstissueclub.

NEWS! Greg and Andy were lucky enough to interview the incredibly talented writer, Kyle Starks. You’re probably very familiar with Kyle’s previous books: Sex Castle, The 6 Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton, I Hate This Place, and Rock Candy Mountain. On this episode Kyle discusses his newest book, Where Monsters Lie, published by Dark Horse on February 1st. We get into what spurred the idea for this series about a gated community for slasher monsters to recoup after their latest kill and begin to plot their next victim(s). Kyle also gave us a peek inside his writing process and made us wonder ‘Where does the guy from Saw go to buy all his supplies and why did no one connect the dots when he rented that warehouse?’ There’s still time to head to your local comic shop or favorite online retailer and DEMAND that they pre-order this book for you so that you can experience the gruesomely good time that is, Where Monsters Lie! For MORE Kyle Starks goodness be sure to visit kylestarks.com and @thekylestarks on Twitter and Instagram. WHERE MONSTERS LIE #1 Haven't you always wondered what slasher monsters--the masked home invasion family, the mindless unkillable monster, the serial killer trapped in a doll--what they do for those couple of years in-between their murder sprees? They're at Wilmhurst--a gated community in the middle of nowhere where they relax--or try to--until they get the call to go out and kill again. Connor Hayes survived his first slasher in summer camp. A handful of years later he barely escaped a psychopath who built torture puzzles for his victims. Since then he's been training and planning for running into these creatures again. He's a respected special agent, and now he knows where the monsters lie and he's planning for war.
