Cartoon Brew contributor and animator Vincent Alexander constructed a piece back in April around the most influential filmmakers and examples of their work that you could trace back to the guys behind the Looney Tunes. In this episode, I'm joined by Vincent and we touch upon a few of those directors and their films. Some may blow you away! Looney Tunes in the News! The Day the World Blew UP! A Looney Tunes Movie made it's WORLD PREMIERE AT ANNECY! In the world of animation, few names evoke as much nostalgia and admiration as the Looney Tunes. With iconic characters like Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, these beloved cartoons have entertained audiences for generations. The recent premiere of 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' at the Annecy Animation Festival has reignited interest in these classic characters, showcasing their enduring appeal in a modern context. A Stellar Premiere at Annecy The unveiling of 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' at the Annecy Animation Festival was nothing short of spectacular, drawing a crowd that was visibly moved by the charm and wit of the Looney Tunes legacy. Under the directorial guidance of Pete Browngardt, and brought to life by the talented voice work of Eric Bauza as both Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, Candi Milo as Petunia, Fred Tatascior as Farmer Jim and Ghostbusters 2 actor Peter MacNicol as The Invader; this feature-length adventure captured the hearts of those in attendance. The event itself was a vibrant celebration of animation, with 'The Day the Earth Blew Up' standing out as a highlight of the festival. From the moment the lights dimmed and the first scene rolled, the audience was immersed in a world filled with laughter, nostalgia, and the unmistakable zaniness of the Looney Tunes universe. Each joke landed with precision, eliciting hearty laughs, while the emotional beats of the story brought the crowd on a rollercoaster of feelings. The film's cleverly crafted narrative and beautifully executed 2D animation showcased the enormous effort and passion poured into its creation by Browngardt and his team. As Daffy and Porky navigated through their hilarious and often precarious journey to save Earth, the connection between the characters and the audience was palpable. The inclusion of scenes detailing the duo's upbringing and their comedic struggles with employment added layers to their personas, enriching the viewer's experience. Moreover, the portrayal of their friendship and resilience against the backdrop of an alien threat highlighted the timeless appeal of these characters, making every moment on screen feel both fresh and familiar. The Annecy premiere served as a powerful reminder of the magic that the Looney Tunes can bring to the big screen. It was a night where animation enthusiasts, critics, and newcomers alike were united in their appreciation for a franchise that continues to evolve while staying true to the heart a

Hello Toonsters and Looney Tunes Fans! If this is your first time listening, welcome to the LOONIEST source for your zany cartoon news surrounding the iconic Merrie Melodies characters from news and interviews to reviews! On this special episode, it's just me, Jonathan Graves here to discuss the devistating developments surrounding the James Gunn produced, Dave Green Directed film, 'Coyote Vs Acme.' Starring Will Forte, John Cena, Lana Condor and voices provided by Emmy Award Winner Eric Bauza, this was set to release last year but was replaced on the calendar release schedule by Barbie and the film was indefinitely shelved before being (presumably) deleted this week for tax purposes. This is a business practice that I truly do not condone or support and I hope something is done to stop it from ever happening again.

Greetings Folks! In this week's episode, I'm joined by the co-writer of Merrie Little Batman, Morgan Evans to discuss his works as well as the little scare us Looney Tunes fans experienced last week surrounding the removal of the classic Merrie Melodies catalog from Max! On this week's podcast, Mike Manolo returns to watch some brand promotions with The Looney Tunes dating all the way back to the 50's! During the Bugs Bunny Show, subsequently retitled, The Bugs Bunny and Road Runner Show; then finally The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show, brand commercials were created to advertise Tang, Alphabits and Koo-laid to kids! Surprisingly these commercials are very well done, due a large part to the fact that Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones, Robert McKimsom and even Tex Avery returned to work on them! And of course Mel Blanc was there to provide those familiar voices. NEWS ACROSS THE LOONIVERSE: The award winning concert that was supposed to premier in Los Angeles in the new Peacock Theater has now been POSTPONED! We do not know when this will be resolved, but keep it right here for updates! The Tiny Toons Looniversity Panel has been transformed to just a screening at SDCC this year. We were supposed to have all of the newly announced cast take the stage, but now it'll just be a screening of the episodes. While we are bummed, we understand the reasoning and our hearts are with those SAG-AFTRA Members who worked on the show and are currently striking. The series is produced by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation. GAY PUR-EE (1962) Dir. Abe Levitow Written by Dorothy Jones and Chuck Jones This release is set to include 3 Newly restored Looney Tunes cartoons; For Scent-imental Reasons, French Rarebit and Louvre Come Back. Two of those are Pepe LePew cartoons! THIS MEANS PROMOS: From line-dancing to LeAnn Rimes to sporting the latest flip phone in 2003, the Looney Tunes have sure made their way around the Brand Marketplace as promotion artists. The voice talent included Joe Alaskey, Mel Blanc, Jeff Bergman, Greg Burson and even Mel's son, Noel Blanc during these years of endorsment. From TARGET to WAL-MART and from KOOL-AID to TANG, the Looney Tunes sure could sell product. Something Dan Romanelli taught us a few years back when we was first on and sold carrot cake baked goods with Bugs' famous namesake. If you haven't seen these commercials, you're in luck! They're all on youtube and surprisingly in good quality! I highly recommend checking them out when you can. Something else they did surprisingly well was mix live action elements alongside the cartoon characters interacting with them. The techniques seen on display above helped filmmakers Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg when they made Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). Many of the commercials spoken about during this episode stemmed from The promotions in between the cartoons of The Bugs Bunny Show (1959-1969) Want to support the podcast? On this week's podcast, I'm joined by a very good friend and talented freelance writer, Tamara Brooks to pose our opinions on the Friz Freleng's adaptions of Robert Louis Stevenson's sinister work; Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as Halloween Season winds down. And being big DC fans, we discuss the latest news regarding James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over lead roles at DC Studios for Warner Brothers! We also discuss the recent layoff at Cartoon Network as the Discovery/WB merger continues to take shape. News comes our way courtesy of Deadline; that James Gunn and Peter Safran will lead the DC film and tv division going forward for their superhero properties. I think this is a strong move in the right direction to correct the current trajectory the DCEU was on and with the stellar success of Black Adam it appears there is a lot of fans that want more from their beloved superheroes over there. Hey Folks! We were treated to a surprise yesterday as Cartoonito dropped a brand new Halloween short just before the end of spooky season and it's filled with Easter Eggs to the larger Looniverse! The bite-sized short is only 3 minutes long and unlike the usual fair from this series, non of the character create any conflict that prevents them getting the job done so this is just for fun! It starts with a Transylvania 6-5000 reference with the backdrop design appearing visually similar to that of Count Bloodcount! Then we get those magic words by Lola, "AbraCadabra" and BAM, a bat with a top hat drops down! This is a direct visual homage to what Count Bloodcount looks like in Bat form. When Tweety flies in dressed as a ghost, he spooks Sylvester and I took this to be a reference to Boo Appetweet! The Looney Tunes Cartoons short released in the first batch of shorts way back in 2020. Then the jobs are dished out and the rest of the costumes are revealed. Porky is dressed as a pumpkin; this is for a gag later on that made me laugh out loud. Wile E. is dressed as the scarecrow, "If I only had a brain." Lola is a magician, making the Halloween magic happen. Bugs Bunny is dressed as Witch Hazel and later in the episode appears with the mask he wore in Broomstick Bunny; the "Ugliest" Witch of all! Petunia is dressed as a Astronaut and that's just silly. AND DAFFY IS BATMAN! During his candy check, he has the line, "Taste Tested and Bat-Duck Approved!" The utterance of BatDuck is a verbal reference to when Plucky Duck dressed as Batman in Tiny Toon Adventures! What a callback! The citizens of Looniburg show up as their costumes are equally as adorable. Pussyfoot is dressed as dracula, Hippity is dressed as a pirate AND EGGHEAD IS DRESSED AS A GREMLIN FROM FALLING HARE!!! SO COOL! Unlike the other entries, the Looney Builders have no problem getting these trick or treaters their tasty candy making it just a sugar filled outing and a ultra cute one at that. Bugs wearing this mask from Broomstick Bunny is just an excellent homage and truly inspired me to make this blog for those that might miss it this holiday season! You can watch this one right now on Youtube at the link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuhjE982oLE Be sure to watch the shorts mentioned as well or introduce them to the kids for additional cartoon treats this Halloween! Comment with your favorite homage in this and what's your favorite Looney Tunes Halloween short?!

Candi Milo does an impeccable job at stepping into this role made popular by June Foray and does it with panache! I am very much looking forward to this character having many more appearances. Porky and Sylvester! I'm ecstatic to say that the Porky/Sylvester pairing still works beautifully and one of the things I wanted to point out to fans is that when Sylvester is Porky's pet cat, he doesn't speak. This adds to the tension of the horror surrounding their adventures. We recommend this special to old and new fans of Looney Tunes alike, but while we're glad we are being challenged with this comedic content, it won't be for everyone. If you haven't checked out my podcast with 'King Tweety' Director, Careen Ingle, I highly recommend doing so now! WELCOME to the LOONIVERSE! Podcast Producers, Writer and Wife, Sabina Graves, joins me on this episode where we break down all of the latest Looney Tunes announcements over the past month and offer up our review of King Tweety! Available here: https://www.amazon.com/King-Tweety-Eric-Bauza We give King Tweety high praise for being a film that is entertaining from beginning to end with full on twists and turns that you may not see coming; I sure didn't. You'll find yourself quoting the lines days and days after as the writing is wickedly fast paced and unique to these characters, while being true to what has come before. The brotherly-love aspect is a great way to maintain a fresh storyline around Sylvester and Tweety that we haven't seen played out before and the way Granny is used here will make you want to rent the nearest scooter you can find. The animation is solid and the voice work is unmatched! Eric Bauza as Tweety and Sylvester never leave you with a false note. The songs are catchy and you'll want to re-watch it almost immediately! 4/5 Carrots! LOONEY TUNES NEWS: WB has announced that there will a full Looney Tunes panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year and with it announcements, and news regarding our favorite characters! The long running Looney Tunes Franchise ran into some problematic shorts during war time and we're here to break it all down in this podcast with pop culture writer Mike Manolo and producer Stephanie Sandmeier! The Looney Tunes created shorts from 1941-1944 that focused on selling a specific image to the US public in movie theaters, that would persuade men and women to support the war for the Allies. America was pushed into the war with the bombing of Pearl Harbor and that's when the Japanese soldier became an image subjugated to awful steroetypes that not only effected kids' perceptions of asians abroad, but here in the States as well. This was a terrible time of insensitive depictions of asians and pacific islanders. Films Discussed: Yellowface: Asian Whitewashing and Racism in Hollywood - Directed by Clara and Julia Kuperberg. The film is now available on HboMax. Shorts Discussed: Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur - (1939) Chuck Jones Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips - (1944) Friz Freleng Tokio Jokio - (1943) Norman McCabe Looney Tunes News: Casper Caveman and Fido from Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur have entered the World of Mayhem in all their time traveling glory! These shorts are all in the public domain and it's important that we don't forget what was created before so that we may learn from this mistakes. The World Celebrated Bugs In Drag the Day Before 'Bugs Bunny Day' So you know what that Means! "MARSHA!" Hello and Welcome to the best Looney Tunes Podcast on the web! This week on the pod, I sit down with Jenny Lorenzo (Jellystone, Victor and Valentina) to discuss the Gender Politics in Classic Cartoons namely, Bugs in Drag! "In the 1992 movie Wayne's World, Garth Algar asks the question, "Did you ever find Bugs Bunny attractive when he put on a dress and played a girl bunny? His buddy Wayne didn't, but Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, and the Tasmanian Devil are just a few of the many males who have been bewitched, bothered and bewildered by Bugs' seemingly endless wardrobe of women's clothing." - A passage from the Ultimate Looney Tunes Guide. Looney Tunes In the NEWS: Porky's Hare Hunt (April 30th, 1938) - First Appearance of The Happy Rabbit (prototype for Bugs Bunny) Apparently He’s Never Watched Bugs Bunny! This conversation ties into why Bugs was trending the literal day before 'Bugs Bunny Day' (April 30th), due to the out of touch words of Ron DeSantis who claimed that old cartoons didn't challenge gender norms. Cartoon Shorts Discussed: Hare Trimmed - Dir. Friz Freleng (1953) Story by Warren Foster - "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride." Bedevilled Rabbit - Dir. Bob McKimsom (1957) Story by Tedd Pierce - "She's a nice lady." Rabbit Seasoning - Dir. Chuck Jones (1952) Story by Michael Maltese - "I would just love a duck dinner. We finally have some new detail on Space Jam: A New Legacy thanks to Entertainment Weekly and their April Issue! In part to new images being released, Lola Bunny has caught some controversy which set Twitter ablaze and on those heels, Pepe Le Pew was a hot topic across the internet after Deadline reported a scene with him was cut out of the new film. In this week's episode, I'm joined once again by the talented singer/songwriter Reina Mora (see LOLA IN SPAAAAAAACE!) and John Carmack, a friend from college and the CEO of VEGIFY also stops by for some much needed insight to discuss these topics and more! After a brief hiatus, the podcast has returned with a breakdown and dissection of the latest Looney Tunes News across all franchises including news of a rebooted Tiny Toons; titled Tiny Toons Looniversity ! and Animaniacs on Hulu! I'm joined by my wife and massive Disney fan Sabina Graves (@ThatLadyGraves on Instagram and @SabinaHasNoR on Twitter) who brings so extra excitement in our discussions surrounding the newly announced animated shows from Warner Animation! According to The Hollywood Reporter, we will be seeing a big push for pre-school audiences and we're excited about watching them with our future kids! Bugs Bunny Builders (working title) – Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and built on the solid comedic foundation of the iconic Looney Tunes, Bugs Bunny Builders brings the wackiness, humor and slapstick we’ve grown to love to a new preschool audience. At ACME Construction Company Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny manage a crew of builders that, quite frankly, should not be anywhere near a construction site. However, by working together as a team, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety and others use their tools and wild vehicles to pull off some of the looniest construction jobs ever. Tweety Mysteries (working title) – Tweety Mysteries is a hybrid live-action/animated adventure from Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Television that follows a curious tween investigative journalist and podcaster named Sydney and her sidekick Tweety bird. Working together the pair must solve various local mysteries in their small, quirky Washington state town. Space Jam 2 - X-Box Game Contest and 3 seconds of Footage Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is a bonkers mash of zany comedy with an Austin Powers bend! Highly recommend checking it out if you love 90's era comedies. Lola Bunny in the Looney Tunes Show voiced by Kristen Wiig. Dave Baer has passed away at 70. He animated Mickey Mouse in this classic scene from Who Framed Roger Rabbit; which is a seminal moment in animation as two legends finally shared the screen together. In this week's episode, Dave Lee ( Youtube.com/daveleedownunder ) joins in the fun to discuss the recent "contwoversy" surrounding the NO GUN policy within the Looney Tunes Cartoons. Plus, we take a look into an episode of the new series featuring Elmer Fudd without a gun, Sylvester and Tweety on Ice and a Road-Runner short to review just how brilliant it is. These are the episodes we watched from The Looney Tunes Cartoons! (Pain in the Ice, Tunnel Vision, Pool Bunny) We also discuss the latest character reveal in the Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem game, Revenant Road-Runner! Looney Tunes Cartoons Controversy: No Guns! This news has taken the nation by storm, even though it really shouldn't have as there are many, many more pressing issues to be concerned about. But Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam will not be sporting their fire arms in this new series and I, for one and perfectly ok with that. Pain in the Ice - Tweety and Sylvester are at it again and this time, it's on ice. The gags and execution here are strong and quick leading to many memorable moments and surprises. I really enjoyed the character work in this and the way the team utilized the setting to its full potential. Starring Tweety ( Eric Bauza ), Sylvester the Cat ( Jeff Bergman ) and Granny ( Candi Milo ). 3.5/5 Carrots! Tunnel Vision - A Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner short based around the classic gag of painting a road on the side of a rock. The water color backgrounds and amazing animation of its central characters stand out strong in this outing, but it's the creative spin they put on the gag that make it stand a cut above. 3/5 Carrots! Pool Bunny - When Bugs Bunny (Eric Bauza) travels to the desert during a heat wave, its Elmer Fudd's (Jeff Bergman) pool that becomes the prime vacationing location. The two have such grand chemistry and the way the comedy just rolls off of their vitriol is palpable. The gags come fast and furious and each one elevates the picture as a whole. BRING THE KIDS! "Of Course You Realize... You know." 4.5/5 Carrots Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem New: Revenant Road Runner! ACME Commercial: ACME Drinking Fountain! Did you agree or disagree about the gun policy in place? Does this tarnish any part of Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam for you? Do you have HBO MAX? What were your thoughts on the shorts we discussed? Special thanks to Dave Lee Down Under! Follow Dave Lee Down Under on Youtube, Twitter, & Instagram! Youtube - Youtube.com/daveleedownu

In this week's episode, Matt Jacobs joins to review the first publically released episode of The Looney Tunes Cartoons! (Boo! Appetweet, Plunger, Bubble Dum) We also discuss the importance of having a storyboard driven room for the shorts in the reboot and then we play a game to see if we can identify defining traits of some of the iconic characters within the series! The creativity shown in this series so far is so promising and respectful to the source material that it's hard not to love what these individual teams are doing with these cherished characters. Boo! Appetweet - A short starring Tweety ( Eric Bauza ), Sylvester the Cat ( Jeff Bergman ) and Granny ( Candi Milo ). This short has references to Ghostbusters and A Christmas Carol, which makes this an instant classic! 3.5/5 Carrots! Plunger - A musically driven short featuring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd where Elmer tries to suck Bugs out of his hole via usage of a plunger. The water color backgrounds and amazing animation of its central characters make this a work of art that can be enjoyed by all ages. I wish it was a bit longer because the premise is so strong, but that's a minor gripe. 2.5/5 Carrots! Bubble Dum - When Daffy Duck (Eric Bauza) accidentally steps on a piece of street bubblegum that he previously chewed, he pulls out all the stops to get it off. Did you play the description game along with us? How did you do? Were there any descriptors you would add to those main characters that we missed? I understand that the Looney Tunes are more similar to actors than specific character types, but there are certain constants that you can point at and that's what we aimed to do. In this week's episode, Chris Bucca Taylor ( @ZeitChrist ) joins to review the film, Scoob! as well as deep diving into Warner Brother crossovers! We also examine the latest Looney Tunes Cartoons, Wet Cement and Tunnel Vision! Scoob! is the first film in the WAG (Warner Animation Group) Hannah Barbera Universe of movies. Expect more from this series, if Scoob! has a positive reception on VOD this month. Scoob! is available now on VOD! Wet Cement - A short starring Porky Pig (Bob Bergen) and Daffy Duck (Eric Bauza). This short is really fun and has an incredibly respectful homage in the form of Daffy holding the hand of Tex Avery, one of the original Looney Tunes directors from Termite Terrace. Wet Cement: 3.5/5 Carrots! Tunnel Vision - A quick bumper short featuring Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. We just love the new designs of these characters! Tunnel Vision: 4 out of 5 Carrots! The Looney Tunes Cartoons are set to premiere on HBOMax May 27th! Along with Looney Tunes, Rick and Morty will also be available on HBOMax and there is a really fun call out to Bugs Bunny in The Vat of Acid Episode.
