Hello everyone and welcome to the Season Finale of another year of The Other Way podcast. I’m hopping on to wrap up the year with a solo podcast. Today we’ll be covering: - A life update: my mom, fertility, work, and more - How I’m setting intentions for 2025: values over goals, my 2025 vision board - Lessons from 2024 - The power of my spiritual practice and what that will look like in 2025 - Some rapid fire Q&A As discussed in the episode, here are some resources I mentioned: Identifying your values exercise My vision board for 2025 and beyond (no set end date here) As the year comes to a close, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. This podcast for me is more than just a platform for female wisdom but a community. I started The Other Way as a space for inspiration and connection during a time of deep personal transition. After leaving a decade-long career in tech to pursue a doctorate in Chinese Medicine, I found myself recovering from burnout, chronic endometriosis, and autoimmune flares. Though I identified as a high achiever on paper, I felt unmoored—disconnected from my body, feminine intuition, purpose, and spiritual path. This podcast grew out of my desire to reconnect with my authenticity and cultivate a deeper sense of alignment. Through conversations with inspiring humans, researchers, spiritual teachers, and more, I’ve discovered wisdom and tools that have profoundly shaped my journey - and continue to do so. I am so grateful to each of you for tuning in and for all your wonderful feedback. Happy Holidays and see you in the New Year!

Krista is honored to walk with women through these shifts and has been moved to encourage her patients to embrace them openly and fully. These transformational experiences have opened her eyes to the importance of conscious health care and postpartum wellness. Teaching women to find guidance through informed choice, community, and within themselves has become her mission. In this episode of 'The Other Way,' I'm interviewing Emily Smith, a licensed acupuncturist specialized in both traditional Chinese medicine and Japanese acupuncture. We delve into the differences between Japanese and Chinese acupuncture, the importance of energetic health, and how societal interactions impact our wellbeing. Emily shares her journey and insights into cultivating healthy energy, emotional work, and the interconnectedness of life, offering valuable perspectives on holistic wellness. We cover: Exploring Japanese acupuncture and how it differs from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Understanding energetic health, how it impacts well-being, and ways to cultivate and protect energy. Recognizing and managing "energy vampires" vs. "energy givers" in relationships and activities. Practical tips for processing energy through movement, connection, and setting boundaries, especially during the holiday season. Embracing a holistic perspective on health that integrates physiological, emotional, and energetic dimensions. About Emily (in her own words): Holistic Medicine caught my attention after I saw how Western Medicine generally provides one-size-fits-all treatments based on data for primarily white men. My relationship with my health and wellness has been fraught with confusion and misinformation. Many traditional cultures have medicinal wisdom for all stages of life, and Western Medicine has learned from this. Still, it doesn`t help us understand how we can assist our bodies in maintaining wellness. This is where I come in. I love helping people find their personal user`s manual. Our body always communicates with us, but in a language we haven`t learned or prefer not to listen to. Once we learn to listen and appreciate our bodies` signals, our minds can relax, and our bodies will become trusted allies and precious homes for peace, inspiration, and aliveness. This, I believe, is our birthright. Posture Matters—our bodies are finely tuned instruments. Misalignment and chronic postural compensations change our healthy, energetic flow. Additionally, energetic holding patterns from injury, developmental/ systemic social wounding, and environmental stress wreak havoc on our natural well-being. Breathing and movement are essential to wellness and pain free living. I help people enjoy our modern lifestyle by remembering innate wellness and resilience. We delve into topics like burnout, the balance between masculine and feminine energies, the importance of cycles in creativity, and how to cultivate a regenerative fuel for sustainable achievement. Plus, hear Bristol's insights on practicing surrender and navigating uncertainty in today's world. In this episode, I open up about the unexpected blessings that can come from life’s toughest moments. When my mom was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer, everything changed. But through the struggle, our family found a closeness we hadn’t felt in years. Watching her respond positively to chemo brought a sense of peace I never expected, teaching me the deep power of surrender and acceptance. In a world that’s all about hustle and deadlines, I reflect on what happens when you let go of control and redefine success on your own terms. Meditation and the art of acceptance have completely transformed how I handle life’s curveballs, from canceled plans to unexpected challenges. Instead of letting anxiety run the show, I’ve found more ease by considering both the worst and best-case scenarios—leading to a sense of fulfillment that feels more genuine. Join me as I share how this mindset shift has changed both my personal and professional life, and why I’m stepping into a future that’s less focused on outcomes and more centered on living in the present.

Welcome back to The Other Way ! I'm Kasia, your host, and I'm thrilled to reconnect with you all after our season break. As many of you know, I wrapped up last season during a challenging time. My mom was diagnosed with cancer just days before our last episode, and I've been in NYC since mid-July, supporting her, navigating this uncertainty, and celebrating the moments that matter—like my brother’s beautiful wedding, which we brought to New York so my mom could be a part of it. While I have many personal updates to share in a solo episode soon, we’re celebrating the start of a new season today. We’re transitioning into fall, or as Chinese Medicine calls it, “Late Summer.” This Earth element season is a time of transition, marking the shift from the active Yang energy of spring and summer to the Yin introspection of fall and winter. I can feel the change in the air here in NYC, with cooler mornings and the subtle natural shift. We’re only here until Sunday before returning to California, so I’m soaking up every moment with family and the last hints of East Coast summer. In this new season, we’re diving deep into the paths less traveled, all through a feminine lens. We’ll explore themes that resonate with my life journey—women’s health, fertility, career, spirituality, and more. This year has brought about significant shifts for me, both personally and professionally, and I’m leaning into surrender and presence in ways I never imagined. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the themes we’ll be exploring this season: Awakening Fertility: We’ll dive into preconception, conception, and beyond, with insights on how to optimize our bodies, minds, and spirits. Expect conversations with experts in Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and herbalism. Cultivating Creative Fertility: Exploring the powerful link between our wombs and creative potential. Modern Spirituality: Applying Zen lessons to our contemporary lives, especially in balancing aspiration and contentment for the ambitious among us. Transitions: Finding peace through life’s stages, from birth and death to identity shifts. Anxiety, Imposter Syndrome, and Creativity: Navigating these common challenges with grace and self-compassion. Releasing Addictions: Tackling our dependencies on tech, stimulation, shopping, and even our own bad habits. And that’s just the beginning! We have an incredible lineup of guests whose wisdom I can’t wait to share. Thank you so much for tuning in and being a part of this beautiful community. I’m beyond excited to embark on this journey with you in the Fall 2024 season of The Other Way . Let’s dive in!

Hi everyone, welcome back to the show. Today’s episode is a season wrap-up and life update. It isn’t something I had been expecting to share, but it’s a profoundly significant update and season of life for me. My initial plans were to share a bit about my recent reiki training in Ojai, a bit about my trip to Spirit Weavers in June, and chat about some business items that have come up along with my Zen practice but life has a funny way of redirecting things. My mom was diagnosed with cancer and frankly, a lot has changed in the last two weeks. This experience has been painful and also in the strangest ways, openhearted and beautiful. I would never have wished for this experience, but I accept it and have found something to be grateful for throughout it. I deeply credit my Zen and mindfulness practice for this open-hearted perspective. Sending out love to those who need it - and thanking every one of you for tuning into this season of the other way. Join us in the fall for more conversations about paths less traveled, spirituality, wellness, women’s health, and more. XX -Kasia

Hi everyone! Today I'm speaking with Joe Hollier, Co-Founder of Light -> a minimalistic, non-addictive smartphone alternative. For those of you who have known me for a while I've been on a long-time mission to become more intention with the information I'm taking in and to cultivate more focus and flow into my day. Partner that with my long-time meditation practice and over the past few years it has become obvious to me that my phone... as convenient as it is... is definitely part of a larger problem. This year I "upgraded" to a Lightphone and started to set more serious boundaries with my phone. I noticed that on retreats/vacations/weekends when I don't have a traditional smartphone on me I feel more focused, intentional, and peaceful. On days when I am on my phone a lot I feel overwhelmed, more anxious, and "rushing" non-stop. I also found it more difficult to participate in things I loved: reading, learning, and tapping into that state of "deep focus". Well, it turns out I'm not alone. According to recent research: Checking phones has become so prevalent that more than 40 percent of consumers said they look at the devices within five minutes of waking up, according to a 2016 survey by Deloitte. Reflecting on my teenage years, I remember flipping through magazines, testing out countless beauty products, and trying to make sense of it all. It wasn't until I started exploring health food stores and farmers' markets that I began to truly understand the connection between what we put in our bodies and how we feel about ourselves. My guest, renowned aromacologist Nadine Artemis, has taken this concept a step further, shifting the focus from external beauty to nurturing our bodies from the inside out. She calls it Renegade Beauty, and in our chat, we dive into this innovative mindset, shedding light on the science behind clean beauty and the importance of maintaining a balanced skin microbiome. As a society, we've become accustomed to unrealistic beauty standards, often shaped by the media and intensified by the pressures of social media. Nadine and I discuss the real root of skin issues like acne, and how small changes in our daily routines can lead to significant improvements in our skin health and overall wellbeing. We explore the power of essential oils, the value of a balanced diet, and the impact of modern skincare products on our skin's microbiome. We also address the toxicity of social media and the comparison trap it creates, encouraging a healthier relationship with ourselves and our bodies. But our conversation doesn't stop at skincare. We delve into more delicate topics such as body dysmorphia and the importance of self-care. We share our thoughts on the need to step away from the rat race and focus on nurturing our inner lives for outward stability. Nadine offers her insights on how to navigate beauty pressures, and we both share our experiences and advice on cultivating self-love and acceptance. Our chat is a celebration of natural beauty, self-knowledge, and nurturing the body from the inside out. Join us, and let's redefine beauty together. 💫 Mentioned in this episode: Renegade Beauty Living Libations The link between social media and body dysmorphic disorder 💫 To connect with Nadine: https://www.instagram.com/nadineartemisofficial/?hl=en <stro

Brittany grew up on the beaches of Malibu, eating local produce and appreciating at a very young age that food is fuel. After graduating Georgetown University and Le Cordon Bleu, Brittany trained at the three Michelin- starred Le Bernardin and The Food Network in New York, where she studied the finest techniques in the culinary world. As a seer, she’s always walked between two worlds: that of the past and the present - guided by the medicine of her own lineage. Serial entrepreneur, Navy SEAL Veteran, father, husband, meditator, and now, Doctoral student studying Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture - Brian is a multidimensional human and the ultimate anomaly. After growing up on a small, organic, regenerative farm - Brian jumped full force into the complete opposite enrolling in the military as a Navy SEAL at the age of 18. After passing the ultra competitive SEAL qualifications (6% of applicants are accepted, annually) and the notoriously challenging training program (a process dubbed “Hell Week” where only 1 in 4 candidates pass), Brian was deployed; serving in Iraq, receiving multiple awards for his exceptional service, and reporting to Jocko Willink over the course of his tenure on the prestigious Team 3. His experience, to say the least, was metamorphic; enduring multiple life-or-death scenarios over his 80+ combat missions. Now, as a veteran, he knows first hand the challenges of PTSD and the struggle of adjusting to civilian life - chronicling his transition “out of the military as deeply transformative as joining”. It was this experience that inspired his deep meditative and spiritual journey and influenced his own path as a meditator, teacher, and Reiki master who now serves as a volunteer with veterans struggling with trauma. In addition to his journey on the spiritual plane, Brian is a serial entrepreneur and lifelong student. He’s the co-founder of two successful startups and today, a student combining his undergraduate degree of Psychology with his Doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Whitney Bird, or Auntie Whitney as she’s known as to many, is an acupuncturist, healer, and truly remarkable human being. She received both her Masters and Doctorate in the medicine indigenous to the people of China (otherwise known as Traditional Chinese Medicine) from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine at CIIS (one of the top acupuncture schools in the nation). She has since apprenticed at length under brilliant TCM doctors such as Raymond Himmel and Danny Geren. She’s licensed by the California Acupuncture Board and nationally certified by NCCAOM for acupuncture and herbal medicine. She’s the type of practitioner who is “enthusiastic” about Traditional Chinese Medicine (to say the least), she meets with all types of clients (but has an extra “zest” for pediatrics) and she leverages all modalities of TCM in her practice (which we will dive into in today’s episode!)! She volunteers with Integrative Healers Action Network, Acupuncture without Borders, and works with the Paradigm Treatment Centers. She’s a huge proponent of social health (something we deeply value here at Mira Wellness!) and has some incredible perspectives into the power of community for healing (both emotionally, spiritually, and socially). When not treating patients she can be found outside birding, biking, hiking, sailing, or foraging herbs with her adorable pup, Pippin, or her adventurous cat, The Doctor. 💫 We cover: What is Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture + what are some of the healing techniques used Talk about career pivot’s and how Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture is Whitney’s 3rd career How Chinese Medicine views the body, healing, and how emotions are related to disease Whitney’s perspective on integrating both allopathic (Western) and Eastern medicine like TCM Whitney’s experience with Grave’s disease and Hashimoto’s disease & how she navigated this experience physically, how she’s integrated both Western/TCM for healing, and how it’s influenced her career path The importance of removing ego from the practice of medicine Kasia shares her own personal journey with panic attacks, severe eczema, anxiety, and how healing included both mind (therapy) and body (acupuncture) for healing 💫 Mentioned in this episode: Stat’s on loneliness: “...new report suggests that 36% of all Americans—including 61% of young adults and 51% of mothers with young children—feel “serious loneliness.” Not surprisingly, loneliness appears to have increased substantially since the outbreak of the global pandemic. “ (https://mcc.gse.harvard.edu/reports/loneliness-in-america) Integrated Healers Action Network: https://www.integrativehealersactionnetwork.org/ <l

Startup executive, former Microsoft product lead, psychedelic advocate, father, husband, and champion of “radically transparent spirituality”, Sébastien Fouillade is a modern anomaly. Although his 26+ years of experience and his portfolio of tech, product development, and leadership successes are impressive, it’s the openness and authenticity with which Sébastien balances both his spiritual side with his ambitious achievements that sets him apart. Though Sébastien had his first “out of body awakening” in 2011, he only officially “came out of the spiritual closet” recently (in 2019); confronting the stigma associated with psychedelics head on. Since then Sébastien has boldly redefined inclusion in the workplace; challenging cultural norms around how to successfully interweave your spiritual life with your work life. Today, Sébastien works at the forefront of tech and psychedelics. He’s the Chief Journey Officer at Dvija Psychedelics, an advisor for Fraqtal, and a founder for a new Stealth startup in the Psychedelics space. In addition to his startup portfolio he’s the host of Leadershipadelics (a top psychedelic podcast that interviews world class entrepreneurs and leaders who have had impactful experiences with psychedelics) where he’s a powerful advocate for spiritual sovereignty; encouraging everyone to be authentic in sharing their own life path. 💫 We cover: Trust + surrender Sébastien's spiritual journey: from breath-work to experiences with psychedelics The importance of authenticity What it's like hitting stigma head on when he "came out of the spiritual closet" How misalignment can lead to disease How to balance your own needs with responsibilities + the needs of your family 💫 To connect with Sébastien: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sebastienfouillade/ http://www.fooyad.com http://www.leadershipedelics.com 💫 Mentioned in this episode: The Surrender Experiment (book) by Michael Singer How to Change your mind by Michael Pollan The Medicin Podcast Sean McCormick Life Coaching

Hello and welcome to The Other Way, a lifestyle podcast that explores uncommon, unconventional, or otherwise alternative approaches to life, business, and health. I’m your host, Kasia; I’m a founder and mindfulness practitioner on a mission to harmonize “being” with “doing”, and discover my most authentic and aligned self along the way. Now, in my experience, stepping into that kind of alignment often requires us to take the path less traveled. On this podcast, I explore those paths. Here, you can expect real, raw conversations with founders, researchers, trailblazers, experts in medicine, spiritual teachers, and all-around inspiring humans on the journey of doing things our way. It may not be “the way,” but it is the other way. So, if you’re like us and feel called to listen to that deeper voice - you’re in the right place. Welcome.
