Kiri Waititi was a clinical psychiatrist for 6 years and devoted a lot of her time to studying mental health but always felt torn between her identity as Māori and what she was doing. However through further studies she found a body of research that informed her that not only 80% of therapeutic success is within people themselves but that a further 95% is within being Māori and only 5% comes down to models. This shifted her focus from model basis to being Māori and what is inherit within whakapapa to support our people. This was a very informative and insight kōrero that can contribute to better understanding and further supporting whanau and even ourselves with our mental health. Nikki aka Niksta is one of the sisters who is doing really well in the space she is in. Since our last conversation back in 2019 (episode 10) she has made some changes not just in her life but also her business. Pivotting her main focus from distributing homeware to graphic design and still under the umbrella of Taputapu (@taputapu_ltd). Her ability to be disciplined, to adapt and to stay positive enabled her to get to where she is now. Incredibly inspired by my mate and she has helped me in so many ways and I'm sure you will get a lot out of this kōrero! Hope you enjoy e te whanau.

Growing up using an inhaler almost everyday of my life came with a lot of challenges. I have had two asthma attacks and have relied heavily on an inhaler for my 29 years. However, this year I something dropped for me that inspired me to overcome this condition. Through breathing exercises, trusting myself and having the right mindset I have pushed through it.

This is an analogy that is widely known and I learnt this on a deeper level going through a relationship breakup. Although it was challenging it was the realisation that I needed to help me grow but ultimately put myself first. Filling up my cup by doing things for myself that make me feel good has been something I have done since that time in my life. It hasn't made me selfish, it has made me better and more giving! Spending intentional time implementing practices that set me up for the day ahead. Wake up at 4am, make a black coffee, spend 10mins to myself, karakia/pray, express affirmations, set intention for the day, write down five things to be grateful for and finishing off with writing three critical tasks to be completed throughout the day! Wasted no time diving deep with Jordan (@theriver_jordan) in this episode. We go in on some heavy topics as well as unpacking some personal thoughts and past lived experiences. He's a great entertainer but is also someone that has a pure gift of connecting and healing. Enjoy.

Not everyone resonates with politics, including myself. But sitting down with matua Pouroto really helped to understand the importance of voting and what it might mean for Māori to be represented at the table. We also touch on history, connections, interconnectedness, the idea of time, rangatahi, unity and the power of voting. Just take the language you resonate with and I hope it brings you value.

Notches is a new series that myself and my best friend Te Haunui Tuna will be doing together, where we will be sharing our reflections of the experiences we have together. This episode is sharing the major key lessons we personally took away from the event Gary Vee and Grant Cardone were apart here in Aotearoa. A lot of it is about money as we feel it is the missing piece to our puzzle, but we hope you enjoy this reflection session. Mauri ora!

Choosing to only eat plants has had a profound impact on my life and it has changed in the most positive way. I highlight the idea of identifying myself as Tupuānuku as opposed to vegan. Bringing in a more passive and Māori approach to this way of living. The goal isn't to make everyone follow a Tupuānuku diet but more so to provide an insight to the lifestyle. Ngā mihi, Raniera
