Innocent Guilty

23 Here are some further sayings of the wise:

It is wrong to show favoritism when passing judgment.

24

A judge who says to the wicked, “You are innocent,”
     will be cursed by many people and denounced by the nations.

25

But it will go well for those who convict the guilty;
     rich blessings will be showered on them.

Verse 23 tells us that showing favoritism, especially against the poor and powerless, is offensive to God.

Verse 24 warns that calling evil people good causes division, which is something we see happening with some politicians today.

Verse 25 promises that those who convict the guilty without favoritism toward the rich or powerful will receive God’s blessings.

Think about this: You might feel like these verses don’t apply to you since you're not a judge, but you can still support fair and honest judges, and speak out against dishonest ones. Recently, a biased judge was removed because of public outcry. Honest citizens can make a real difference.
