This week on Queer News with Anna DeShawn — we’re talking legal wins and loses, representation on-screen, and unmatched excellence on the basketball court. A U.S. federal appeals court deals a blow to Trump’s anti-trans military ban, affirming the right of our trans siblings to serve with pride. Family, this week we’re celebrating political wins in Colorado and Boise, shining a light on the Curve Foundation's Power List, and spotlighting NFL player Khalen Saunders for creating space in sports for LGBTQ athletes. From politics to pop culture, Anna brings the stories that matter to our community—amplified, unfiltered, and with plenty of heart. In Politics: Colorado Comes Through: The state House passes groundbreaking bills protecting gender-affirming care, shielding trans kids and their families, and recognizing abortion as a constitutional right. Boise Stands Tall: Despite Idaho’s ban on flying non-governmental flags, Boise Mayor Lauren McLean affirms the city will keep flying the Pride flag. The best part? The bill has no enforcement mechanism. Sometimes resistance is as simple as staying the course. In Culture & Entertainment: Curve Power List Honors Anna: That’s right — our very own Anna DeShawn made the 2025 Curve Power List! Shoutout to the Curve Foundation for recognizing LGBTQ+ women and nonbinary folks shaping culture and policy. What an honor to be listed among such icons. Chicago

As a Black queer woman who's gone through everything she has you just don’t know what the person is going to do in these monumental moments. Well she showed us what she can do. She showed out winning the 100m final with a PR of 10.65 seconds. She also won bronze in the 200m and another goal in the 4x100m. Family, welcome to our feed swap friday. This swap is with Tenderfoot TV’s latest podcast called Dear Alana. Let me tell you a bit about the story. When Alana Chen died at the age of 24 in Boulder, she left behind two dozen journals chronicling a deep faith, love of fashion, and passion to become a nun. She also harbored a secret. At 14, she confessed to her priest that she was attracted to women. That priest convinced her not to tell her parents, and for seven years, Alana covertly sought pastoral counsel and conversion therapy. After being hospitalized for depression, she ended her life in 2019. When Simon Kent Fung learned of her story, he reached out to her family to offer comfort. His own life was shockingly similar: he too sought out conversion therapy for nearly a decade in his efforts to become a priest. As he discovers more about Alana’s brief life and their overlapping experiences, he’s compelled to understand the truth of what happened to her—and finally face what happened to him. In this first episode Simon travels to Boulder to meet Alana’s mother Joyce, and becomes determined to help her understand what happened to Alana. I hope you enjoy this episode and if you want to hear more Dear Alana visit apple.co/dearalana. For ad-free listening and exclusive content subscribe to Tenderfoot+ at tenderfoot.tv/plus.
