What do mathematics and misbehaving mutts have in common? This week on the Soul Touched by Dogs podcast, I sit down with Grisha Stewart, a self-described behaviour nerd who made the leap from math lecturer to world-renowned dog trainer. Yep, from numbers to nosework 😛 Grisha created BAT (Behavior Adjustment Training), a beautifully intuitive method that helps reactive and anxious dogs find calm - not through bribery or correction, but by giving them agency. It’s training as a gentle dance, not a tug-of-war. We talk about the heartbreak of having a dog who “doesn’t behave” in public, the magic of working with a dog’s instincts (instead of muscling against them), and why the real secret sauce often lies in helping humans breathe, pause, and trust. You’ll also hear how her soulmate dog, Peanut, taught her more than any seminar could, and why the path to healing sometimes involves therapy dogs, awkward cabinets, and a few emotional meltdowns (from both species). If you’ve ever felt judged at the end of a leash, or wondered if your dog was just “too much”, this one’s for you. Come for the insights, stay for the laughs, and leave feeling a little more seen. 🐾 Hit play, and let’s explore the softer side of behaviour science. To find out more and connect with Grisha: Website : https://school.grishastewart.com Bio : My name is Grisha Stewart and my family tree has more dogs than humans! Through my international dog seminars, DVDs, books, and my in-person and online training schools, I've helped well over 200,000 dogs and their people thrive. My guest for this episode is Joe Gionti, the CEO and founder of K9Heroes4Heroes. The mission of this non-profit organization is to train service dogs and match them up with veterans and first responders in need. In our conversation, Joe shares why he is so passionate about supporting veterans and first responders, and what his own service dog does for him. We explore what goes into training a service dog as well as finding the perfect match home. People in the military and first responders often see things no person should ever see, and while they’re trained to do their job, they often don’t have a lot of support to help them recover from any trauma. That’s why services like K9Heroes4Heroes are so important. Daniel is ALL about intuition. When we met in a breakout room during a networking call as part of a group we’re both in, I shared about Soul Touched by Dogs and he immediately messaged me to say that his work also includes intuitively communicating with animals, and dogs in particular. I knew in an instant that I wanted him for a Pawsome Human interview. I’m not one to doubt my intuitive hunches, and I’m glad I didn’t .. In this Pawsome Human interview, we explore the power of intuition and how to apply it to deepen our connection with our dogs. But Daniel didn’t just talk about it .. he demonstrated it by communicating with my pup Cai (my little shadow, the one you would have heard making funny noises if you’ve ever been in a Zoom call with me :-) Gift yourself a time-out and listen in or watch here .. https://share.descript.com/view/Rf3nwJ8OUpR To find out more about Daniel, check out his website https://www.intuitionwisdom.com/ and his books . All about Soul Touched by Dogs at https://soultouchedbydogs.com Pawsome Humans Interview: Michael Overlie Author of Let Your Dog Lead (I highly recommend you grab a copy on Amazon or a free pdf on his website https://dogsandmen.com/ ) I stumbled across Michael in the comment thread of a callout for speakers for a dog-related summit. Someone had tagged him as someone worth reaching out to, and the moment I read “Dogs and Men” I was intrigued so I messaged him. The rest, as they say, is history .. 😛 In our conversation, he shares how his own dogs helped him get through challenges in his life, and how he now helps other men cultivate and grow emotional confidence through the relationship with their dogs. He taps into the bond his clients have with their dogs and shows them how to take more of who they are with their dogs into the relationships with the people in their lives. I couldn’t love this more. Gift yourself a 12-minute treat and listen in. If you and I ever had a conversation about passion projects, you've probably heard me talk about one of mine I can't even talk about without tearing up .. It's about a Canine Center - to take care of dogs, to educate children, to change the narrative of how we as a society relate to animals .. To be honest, despite the passion, it's always felt a bit "too big" to tackle, so I didn't take any steps towards it. Soul Touched by Dogs has been the first move I'm making to put a process of creation in motion. With that context, you won't be surprised to hear that I was holding back tears when Arcui Usoara shared what he's working on .. The full interview will be in this week's edition of Soul Touched by Dogs, and on the podcast (link to both in the comments) PS: I'll always be grateful to Paula James for the introduction
