Warrior Poet Profiles: George Washington with instructor John Lovell and Revolutionary War reenactor and political activist William Temple. In this video we discuss George Washington's life and legacy, to include the good and the more controversial. Washington was highly respected as a man of incredible moral character, influence, strength, and fortitude, however, many today would cast judgment on him as a slave owner (and perhaps rightfully so), as well as a few other historical grienances. One thing is certain though, our flickering American Revolution would have been extinguished if he were not there to fight it. Some historians call George Washington the 'indispensable man', fighting against all odds, against the British, Indians, disease, the cold, congress, and allies seeking to supplant him. In the video we see his greatness shine in the freezing plains of Valley Forge, just one year after the colonists had forged the Declaration of Independence in 1776. William Temple is a political activist heavily involved with the Tea Party movement and has appeared on major news networks such as Fox News, CNN, C-SPAN, as well as by Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report, and Saturday Night Live (SNL). Time Magazine also pictured Mr. Temple. Most recently William Temple was invited to speak at Donald Trump's inauguration to represent the historical personage of Patrick Henry. Some key historical figures and founding fathers discussed in the video: Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Aaron Burr, Benjamin Rush, John Adams, Marquis de Lafayette, Baron Friedrich von Steuben, Benedict Arnold, Patrick Henry SUBSCRIBE & SHARE this channel: http://YouTube.com/c/johnlovell275 Follow Instructor John Lovell on INSTAGRAM- http://Instagram.com/warriorpoetsociety Follow Instructor John Lovell on FACEBOOK - http://Facebook.com/warriorpoetsociety Follow Instructor John Lovell on TWITTER - http://Twitter.com/johnlovell275 Train with John Lovell at Telluric Group by signing up for one of his pistol, rifle, night vision, low-light, room clearing, or other courses here: http://telluricgroup.com

Warrior Poet Profiles - Samurai Miyamoto Musashi with tactics and firearms instructor John Lovell Miyamoto musashi was a masterless samurai (Ronin) who lived in Japan in the 1600s. He is considered one of the greatest swordsmen of all time and perfected the 2 swords fighting style. Musashi is also known for his great tactical knowledge in combat and authored ‘The 5 Rings [Spheres]’, ‘The 35 Articles’, and ‘The Path Walked Alone’. All of these references were used as well as the commentary by David Groff. I was interested in covering a Samurai (though Musashi would have used the term ‘Bushi’ and not Samurai) because I had never studied these historical warriors in-depth before and thought they may serve as good examples of Warrior Poets. Unless of course, watching 'The Last Samurai' with Tom Cruise, counts as in-depth study (joking). Though I was impressed with Musashi as a fighter, I came to the opinion he is not of the ‘Warrior Poet’ ideal, whereas other samurai such as Honda Tadakatsu (a contemporary of Musashi), may hold the ideal readily enough. Regardless, much can be appreciated about Musashi’s contribution to the world of fighting and should be considered a good resource in any protector’s library whether they be police, military, contractors, or responsible armed citizens. Warriors must strive to be scholars as well as fighters. They must be warrior poets. Video with John Lovell “The nation that makes a great distinction between its scholars and its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards; its fighting done by fools”. Widely attributed to Thucydides in books and online [regretfully I perpetuated this misinformation in my video] - this quote is from Sir William Francis Butler, Charles George Gordon (1889), p. 85, where it reads: "The nation that will insist on drawing a broad line of demarcation between the fighting man and the thinking man is liable to find its fighting done by fools and its thinking done by cowards." General James “Mad Dog” Mattis sometimes called “the warrior monk” travels everywhere with a library of 6,000 books. He is a student of history, a tenacious fighter, a pragmatic philosopher, and a war strategist. Warriors must be readers. Great fighters and officers must be students. The stakes are too high, as our ignorance could cost lives that might have been prevented simply by education. In this video I call upon the wisdom from Thucydides, Sun Tzu and his book ‘The Art of War’, Col John Boyd, Dave Grossman, Paul Howe, General Mattis, GK Chesterton, C.S Lewis, Karl Marx (in the negative), George Orwell’s book 1984, and more. Warrior Poet Profiles - Episode 2 - The Spartan King Leonidas and Dienekes, a historical look at these warriors from tactics and firearms instructor John Lovell. In 480 B.C, the Persian army under the command of King Xerxes laid siege to Greece at the hot gates of Thermopylae. A small force of 300 Spartans and a few thousand allied Greeks met the vast 2 million man Persian army to fight one of history's greatest battles. These warrior poets fought with brilliant skill and epic sacrifice, fueled by their love for country, and family. We are made stronger by their example. Many have discovered the Spartans through a movie with Gerard Butler called 300. 300 the movie omitted much of the warrior poet ethos and real history I cover in this video, but the movie was still a fun adaptation of the Spartan story. Tactics and firearms instructor John Lovell reviews John Wick 2 Spoiler alert for John Wick 1, but not for 2. I just finished watching John Wick 2 tonight and was pleased to see the same solid weapon manipulation, shooting, and general movement skills I noticed in the first John Wick movie. I give props and respect to this actor for putting in the hardwork and submitting to good instruction from good dudes like Aaron Cohen and Taran of Taran Tactical. A pleasant surprise was how much Keanu Reeves upped his martial arts game in this movie, drawing on an incredible amount of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (my beloved past time), and some good Judo. There were also some pretty fun knife fighting scenes, and the long awaited 'kill people with a pencil' scene that was hinted at in the first movie. Other fun elements like Laurence Fishburne's cameo felt like a sentimental Matrix get together. Tactics Instructor John Lovell talks about 'Self Defense and "Turning the Other Cheek"'. This video may be about upsetting, but it should at least get us thinking. There is a time for peace and a time for war. A time to fight, and a time to turn the other cheek. This video is from a Christian viewpoint, let the viewer beware! Click THIS LINK to learn more about how to defend yourself and others. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9ZK... IMAGINE, someone you know got ticked off at you and was about to beat you up - not because you had wronged them, but because they just became prejudiced for some reason. This person is not threatening to kill you or anyone else, it is merely they want to bloody you up a bit. Should you run, fight, or just take it? My purpose in this video is not actually meant to answer the question I just posed, but to get you thinking about it, and then switch it up and ask these questions as a quick follow up: Which option requires more strength? Which would most likely bring about the most life change to the person attacking? Which is the most loving thing to do? These questions arose today as I was reading some stuff Jesus said in the Bible in Matthew 5. What do you guys think? Find out 'Why Your Guns Won't Save You' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0G1H3... Lessons in Military Leadership - This video covers the phases of taking a new private and developing them into a fully trained member of a team. I wish I had known then, what I know now. What I thought about military leadership came largely from simply replicating what I saw leaders around me doing (for better or for worse, and usually for worse), or what we had all seen in movies. In reality, leading soldiers should be a far more deliberate process that is predictable and can be really made successful by including some very surprising and rarely mentioned secrets. Tear them down, build them up, and then welcome them to the brotherhood. These lessons were gained during my time serving at 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Being a Christian in the Military, Law Enforcement, or EMS with tactics and firearms instructor John Lovell. In this video, I aim to give practical advice from experience and from what I understand the Bible would urge us to as 'good evangelists' and ambassadors of Christ. How I do Gun and Gear Reviews - Instructor John Lovell By nature of my job as a tactics and firearms instructor, and because companies are reaching out more and more to ask me to review their products, I wanted to set some guidelines about how I will go about reviewing future products. I am training-centric in my thinking more than gear-centric, so I usually want to push people to solving combat related problems with better skills and tactics, however, the value of good guns and gear should not be underappreciated. In reviewing guns and gear, my ambition will be to: (1) Represent the shooter and not the company providing the product. This is a sacred trust for me that I refuse to violate. I want to give good, honest, and succinct information for my military, law enforcement, and civilian followers, and I intend to do just that. My 'good' opinion is not for sale. I intend to give the 'good, the bad, and the ugly', regardless of how nice a company may be in gifting me a product. (2) Give a wide and open-minded view that is informed by different contexts. The competitive shooter is looking to accomplish something different than the cop and soldier, and therefore their gun and gear needs may be different. It is not possible for me to truly do this justice in a short video, but I intend to try. (3) I will do my best to separate the objective from the subjective. Some products are crappy for everyone everywhere. Others are great for everyone everywhere. But there remains a large middle ground where preference comes into play, and I do not want to be the village idiot saying "vanilla is the only good flavor, and all others are stupid". 'Laugh at Your Misery and Fear' with tactics and firearms instructor John Lovell. How do soldiers cope with the pressures of war? How does someone endure horrible misery? How can you prepare to do the same? Though there is a lot that goes into building good 'fighter mindset', in this video I discuss a piece of that which I never hear mentioned. Whenever I have brought up this subject to war veterans, fighters, police, military, contractors, and other high-risk professionals, I'm always greeted with agreement. A good sense of humor, especially when things seem hopeless, can do great things to help you endure the hardship, and bring you closer to others. In this video I also share some very stupid war stories and memories of basic training. I also discuss relevant links to comedians like Jim Carey and Robin Williams. If you lack this one thing, then none of your guns, ammunition, plans, or training can help you. In fact, you could very well spend 20 years shooting with the feeling you were becoming more prepared, when in reality, you are doomed to fail because you are lacking in this one indispensable thing - courage. Now no one wants to entertain the thought that they might not rise to the occasion as a hero, but lets for a moment delve into this topic for at least a sort of fire-insurance. Fear can cause all of our good planning and all the musings of what we thought we might've done or should've done, to go out the window. People who thought they would charge a threat, or flank and counterattack, instead may very well freeze. A person may have had great intentions, but simply became unable to process or to will their bodies to respond. Still, others may run or hide from a threat in an effort to save themselves while being completely unable to think about the safety of others that are also in harms way. I had one guy in a tactics class I taught admit they were half way down the block moments after a violent encounter, when they had always imagined that in such a scenario that they would stay and fight. It is simply amazing what fear and stress will do to us. There are heroes out there of course. But their stories move us because they are so rare. The story of heroes move us because they all contain this one common denominator - our heroes acted courageously. In Stephen Pressfield's book 'Gates of Fire', the Spartan King Leonidas tells us that in battle "practice of arms counts little, courage tells all" What this means is that we can have amazing tactics, speed and accuracy and shooting perfect weapon manipulation skills unparalleled physical ability and endurance, and still FAIL MISERABLY if we lack courage. It all comes down to courage when the lines clash. When the screaming starts and blood flows freely in the night, it is courage that will see the dawn. Courage tells all. Niccolo Machiavelli shows his disdain for mercenaries saying, "mercenaries and auxiliaries are useless and dangerous; and if one holds his state based on these arms, he will stand neither, firm nor safe; for they are disunited, ambitious, and without discipline, unfaithful, valiant before friends, cowardly before enemies, they have neither the fear of God nor fidelity to men and distraction is deferred only so long as the attack is." I believe the reason Machiavelli had such disdain for these hired guns, had little to do with their skills and aptitude and everything to do with their lack of conviction to their cause. People will fight for money, but they will not die for it. Mercenaries, lacking the courage given by a higher cause, will of course flee when they suspect they might not come out of an encounter alive. I do not blame them. I wouldn't die for something I do not believe in and I don't think you would either. Skill is of course critical, as is having the right tools, a
