Episode 196: Colleen Slemmer | The Cult of Christa

On January 13, 1995 Detectives in Knoxville, TN arrived at a murder scene in Tyson Park. This was unlike anything they had ever seen before. In the dirt leading up to the victim’s body they found finger marks, which implied the victim had been physically dragged to a more remote location while fighting desperately to save her life. Her clothes were strewn up in the surrounding trees, covered in blood, and she had been beaten horrifically and slashed with what they assumed as a knife. She had a deep impact wound on the left side of her head and it appeared that brain matter was visible.  This was a brutal murder and they knew it would rock the community of Knoxville, especially because the victim was college aged, and they had many universities and post high school programs located around them. In the early morning hours of June 2, 2009 a thunderstorm broke the constant quiet that existed in the Amish community of Apple Creek, OH. Inside the well kept two story white house the occupants slept fretfully because of the storm. Episode 106: The Murder of Tristan Jensen

In September of 1998 a foul smell and blockage was reported by the citizens in Redlands, CA within a two block radius. The town’s DPW went out to clear the blockage. But instead of hair, tree roots, or disposable wipes (fun facts from John), they found a human skull. It took the police hours and the uncovering of all the manholes that were interconnected for one mile to find the entire skeleton. It was clear the person had been young. A child of 13-15 years old by the size of the bones. No one was saying it but everyone was thinking it, this seemed ripped from the pages of Stephen King’s It. And really, who would have done something like this besides a monster like that? Although it was not a fictional child murdering monster that committed the crimes we will talk about today, the theme from his story can still be applied- the idea that lurking beneath the idyllic façade of any American town something more sinister hides. Episode 35: Vampchick | Malice Afterthought

In the town of Piehl, Wisconsin three siblings ages 9, 8 and 2 slowly finally opened their bedroom doors. They had been locked in by a plastic zip tie that was wrapped around the final staircase wrung and then their door knob. The oldest of the three girls told the others it was safe to leave. They slowly walked around their house, and saw again the reason why they had been locked in their room. The blood was everywhere and the house was so quiet. They saw the body of their mother lying on the floor stabbed to death. The girls quickly ran upstairs and it was there that the saw for the first time the body of their father, shot twice with a 12 gauge shotgun. At too young of an age the eldest girl was given the protection role over her two younger sisters and she was scared. She was nervous that the killer was still in the house. At the sight of her father she told all of her siblings to run back downstairs into the bedroom. All the girls ran. The went back into their bedroom and closed the door. She told them they would wait until the morning that it should be fine by then.

The case we are covering today takes us all the way back to 1962 in Stroudsburg, PA on the night of January 21st. There is a fire blazing at the house of the Maps family at 510 Sarah Street. In the wreckage of the fire two people were found. First, was 22 year old Christine. She was bludgeoned, bruised and unconscious and rushed immediately to the hospital. Next was the body of Christine’s four month old baby daughter, Julia Louise. Episode 10: Charlie Chop-off

From 1972 to 1973 five boys were attacked all between the ages of 8 and 10. Four were murdered, one survived. Four of the victims were sodomized by their attacker and had their genitals mutilated or removed, they were all stabbed in frenzying patterns, one even had an X carved on his chest. The murders remain unsolved. Now I know if you're listening true crime has got to be your thing but this case may not seem familiar to you at all. And that adds to the tragedy of these attacks. The boys that were killed were from Harlem, four of the victims were African American and one boy was of Puerto Rican descent. Episode 9: The Keddie Cabin Murders

In this episode we will try and recount the events of a triple homicide that occurred on the night of April 11, 1981 at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in a California town. A mother, her 15 year old son, and his friend were bound, bludgeoned, and stabbed to death all while two siblings and the son of a family friend slept quietly in the house. When a neighbor is sent to check out the scene he peers through a bedroom window and finds three unharmed adolescent boys. He ushers them through a window sparing them from the grotesque scene beyond the bedroom. Upon further inspection of the scene investigators will find that there is someone missing from the house, the fifth child of the murdered woman, a 12 year old girl. She is nowhere to be found. The slaying of the family members in cabin #28 comes to be known as the Keddie Murders and remains unsolved to this day. With its various twists and turns it has gained a following within the true crime community and, like most unsolved crimes, each suspect or possible scenario has its following of armchair sleuths confirming this is what happened on that Spring night. Episode 8: The Josephine County Crisis

Due to matters beyond Josephine County, Oregon’s control extreme budget cuts had to be made. First up on the chopping block was the sheriff’s department. When the citizens of the town were asked to vote yes on a tax levy which would keep the sheriff's department operating at the same level it had before they voted no, for years. They did this despite being broadcasted on national television due to infuriating 911 calls and a dramatic increase in criminal activity. Episode 7: The Villisca Axe Murders

In the early morning hours of June 10, 1912 the six members of the Moore family were slaughtered in their beds along with the family's two guest, the Stillinger sisters. In total two adults and six children between ages 5-12 were murdered with an axe. This crime shook the small town of Villisca to its core. We still do not know who was responsible for these murders, why they did it, or how they went undected through a house killing everyone as they slept in their beds. Support us!
