Send us a text When detectives locate Ricky at a Louisville Red Roof Inn following a triple homicide in Lexington, they're stunned by his immediate confession: "I killed Aaron and Isaac and I'm proud I did it." But this chilling admission deliberately omits any mention of his stepfather Frank – the third victim discovered at a separate location. What follows is a masterclass in forensic investigation as experienced detectives meticulously dismantle Ricky's fabricated narrative. His version – that his friends killed his stepfather and he merely took revenge – quickly unravels against physical evidence. The crime scenes tell a different story: victims shot while sleeping, pockets turned inside-out, and ballistic evidence linking all three murders to the .38 revolver found in Ricky's possession. The discovery of Polaroid photographs showing Ricky, the victims, and two young women at a drug-fueled party the night before provides crucial context. These images, featuring cocaine and the murder weapon, help establish both timeline and motive. Meanwhile, Ricky's bizarre revelation that he watched investigators from nearby woods while calmly eating pizza offers a disturbing glimpse into his detached mindset. As forensic evidence mounts – shell casings hidden in kitchen drawers, ballistic matches between crime scenes, and a damning verbal slip during interrogation – the prosecution builds an airtight case against a killer who couldn't face admitting to his mother that he murdered her husband. This episode takes listeners deep into the investigative process, revealing how methodical detective work and forensic science uncovered the truth behind these senseless killings. Send us a text A routine death call transforms into a detective's worst nightmare when one body becomes three in a matter of hours. When Frank Reschke is found murdered in his recliner, detectives quickly realize they're missing two crucial elements - the victim's car and his stepson, Ricky Sherroan. What follows is a masterclass in homicide investigation as detectives balance gathering evidence from the initial crime scene while tracking down a suspect who seems to have vanished. When a worried father arrives looking for his son who was friends with the missing stepson, the case takes a devastating turn. "We've got two more over here," comes the chilling call that changes everything. The investigation spans from Lexington to Shively to Louisville in Kentucky as detectives work through the night, processing multiple crime scenes, interviewing witnesses, and coordinating with other jurisdictions - all while a mother endures the unimaginable reality of losing her husband and facing the possibility her son was responsible. The case raises profound questions about family trauma, evidence collection across multiple scenes, and how detectives maintain focus when working "on fumes." This riveting account delivers exceptional insight into the real workings of a major homicide investigation - from the crucial role coroners play in Kentucky (where they legally "own" the body and even have arrest powers) to the tactical decisions about search warrants and evidence processing that can make or break a case. Follow along as investigators unravel what really happened on April 20, 1999, and discover why Ricky Sherroan would ultimately be convicted of two murders but not three. Don't miss this remarkable journey into a case that demonstrates why the first 48 hours are critical in solving violent crimes. Subscribe now for the conclusion of this powerful story. Send us a text Two handsome, wealthy young men from Beverly Hills. Parents murdered by shotgun blasts in their own mansion. A whirlwind of spending on luxury cars and Rolex watches. Sexual abuse allegations that split public opinion. The Menendez brothers case remains one of America's most captivating true crime stories more than three decades after the 1989 murders shocked the nation. We peel back the layers of this infamous case, exploring its most perplexing elements: Why would Lyle and Erik Menendez murder the parents who were already giving them everything they wanted? What role did allegations of sexual and emotional abuse play in their defense? And most controversially - if those abuse claims were true, should that mitigate their punishment? The case broke open when Erik confessed to his therapist, who secretly recorded their sessions. When that recording reached authorities through the therapist's mistress, it set in motion a legal saga that would include two trials, national media coverage, and sentences of life without parole. Yet even today, efforts continue to secure the brothers' release based on what defense attorneys claim is new evidence supporting their abuse allegations. Beyond the facts of the case, we explore the troubling phenomenon of public fascination with the brothers themselves. Their wealthy lifestyle and physical appearance seemed to create an immediate bias among many observers who couldn't reconcile their polished exterior with the brutality of their crime - a phenomenon that continues to affect how we perceive defendants in high-profile cases today. What are your thoughts on this complex case? Would you have voted for manslaughter or murder? Should allegations of abuse affect sentencing in cases of patricide? Share your perspectives and let us know what other infamous cases you'd like us to examine next! Send us a text "Justice delayed is justice denied" takes on profound meaning in the story of Mark Morris, whose grandparents Edwin and Bessie Morris were brutally murdered on Father's Day evening in 1985. What began as an act of kindness – letting a familiar face use their phone when he claimed to be out of gas – ended in a savage double homicide that has left a family waiting for closure for nearly four decades. Mark takes us through the painful journey of three separate trials spanning decades, each ending with death sentences for killers Roger Epperson and Benny Lee Hodge, yet never resulting in execution. We learn how a 68-year-old man who had survived multiple heart attacks and strokes attempted to defend himself and his wife, reaching for a gun atop the refrigerator before being overpowered. The haunting detail of his one-eyed wife in her nightgown pleading for their lives before being murdered creates an indelible image of vulnerable people betrayed by someone they knew. The conversation reveals the devastating ripple effects of violent crime across generations. Father's Day – once a celebration – became permanently tainted for the Morris family. Mark shares how even his son has never given him a Father's Day card because of the painful association. We witness the surreal experience of victims' families funding the continued care of their loved ones' killers through tax dollars, all while watching those killers mock them in courtrooms by blowing kisses and showing zero remorse. Despite these profound challenges, Mark reveals how his family has preserved his grandparents' legacy through their values of generosity and togetherness. He finds some comfort in knowing what happened – a luxury not afforded to families of missing persons – and in the belief that his grandparents are together in the afterlife, having never spent a night apart in life. This episode provides a raw, firsthand account of how our justice system can fail victims' families even when securing convictions. It forces us to consider what justice truly means when those sentenced to death outlive the family members who fought so hard to see that sentence carried out. Send us a text A horrifying betrayal lies at the heart of Edwin and Bessie Morris's murder. The elderly couple was brutally killed in their Kentucky home—not by strangers, but by the son of Edwin's best friend and his violent accomplices. The nightmare for the Morris family began with a confusing phone call delivering unimaginable news, but it would be months before they discovered who was responsible. Roger Dale Epperson—whose father was so close to Edwin that he served as honorary pallbearer at his funeral—along with Benny Lee Hodge and Donald Bartley had carefully planned the robbery and murders, part of a violent crime spree that devastated multiple families across Kentucky. We sit down with family members who take us through their forty-year journey through the justice system, revealing courtroom horrors few could imagine. From killers who taunted and blew kisses to family members during trial, to the shock of seeing Epperson's mother wearing the murdered grandmother's stolen wedding ring in court, this story exposes the extended trauma victims' families endure long after the crime. Perhaps most chilling is the insight into the minds of the remorseless. "They love it, they love it, they relive it," explains our guest, dispelling the myth that imprisoned killers spend their time regretting their actions. For truly evil perpetrators, their crimes become treasured memories they revisit with pleasure. The case also reveals how media can revictimize families, when Sherry Hamilton—one of the accomplices who helped purchase supplies for the murders—later appeared on shows like Oprah presenting herself as a victim rather than a willing participant in brutal killings. Four decades later, the pain hasn't diminished. "It's still as fresh sitting here now as it was that morning I got the phone call," shares one family member, reminding us why justice matters, why victims deserve to be remembered, and why some wounds never fully heal. Send us a text The quiet town of Gray Hawk, Kentucky had one stoplight in the entire county. Nobody locked their doors. Everyone knew everyone. It was here that Edwin and Bessie Morris built their life, running the local grocery store, post office, and gas station. Their grandson Mark Morris remembers them as pillars of the community - hardworking people who helped neighbors who couldn't afford groceries and kept "cold cash" hidden in styrofoam cups in the freezer. When Mark's father made his routine morning check-in on his parents in June 1985, he discovered a scene of unimaginable horror. Both Edwin and Bessie had been bound, brutally beaten, and murdered in their own home. The first double homicide in Jackson County history shattered not just a family, but an entire way of life. What makes this story particularly heartbreaking is how the killers gained entry - by simply knocking and asking for help, claiming they'd run out of gas. The very kindness that defined Edwin and Bessie led to their deaths. Even more shocking was the eventual revelation that one of the perpetrators was the son of Edwin's best friend. For Mark's father, the trauma never faded. Until his death in 2002, he relived finding his parents' bodies every night in his dreams. Now, approaching the 40th anniversary of the murders with appeals still working through the system, the Morris family continues their fight for justice. Through Mark's powerful firsthand account, we examine how this brutal crime forever changed multiple generations of a family, the painful realities of a justice system that moves at a glacial pace, and the resilience of those determined to ensure Edwin and Bessie Morris are never forgotten. Send us a text In the latest episode of the Murder Police Podcast, we delve into the heart-wrenching story of Letha, a young woman whose life was cut tragically short. This episode stands out not only for its compelling narrative but also for the emotional depth provided by our special guests, Miss Beverly and Patches, who were Letha’s aunt and cousin, respectively. From the outset, listeners are cautioned about the graphic nature of the content, which includes violent assaults and murder. This warning sets the tone for an episode that is as raw as it is revealing. Miss Beverly and Patches take us back to their childhood, sharing fond memories of Letha, who was more like a daughter to Miss Beverly and a sister to Patches. These recollections paint a vivid picture of a vibrant young girl who loved playing in the creek, catching crawdads, and spending time with her family. As Letha grew older, the dynamics within her family changed dramatically. Her father's sudden death from a heart attack left her feeling lost and anxious. This sense of instability was exacerbated when her mother remarried and moved away, leaving Letha and her brother to fend for themselves. The episode poignantly captures Letha’s struggle to find her footing in a world that seemed increasingly uncertain. One of the most gripping moments comes when Miss Beverly recounts the last time she saw Letha. She describes how Letha seemed unusually anxious and sad, a stark contrast to the lively girl she once knew. This sense of foreboding only deepens when Patches reveals that Letha had confided in her about being afraid of certain people who frequented her home. Despite these warning signs, no one could have predicted the tragic turn of events that would soon unfold. The investigation into Letha’s disappearance is meticulously detailed, highlighting the exhaustive efforts made by her family and the police to find her. From missing posters to search parties, the community rallied together, but it wasn’t until months later that the grim reality of Letha’s fate was confirmed. This search for answers and the subsequent discovery of her body is a sobering reminder of the fragility of life and the devastating impact of violence. Throughout the episode, the host, Wendy Lyons, handles the narrative with sensitivity and respect, ensuring that Letha’s story is told with the dignity it deserves. Send us a text On January 18, 2015, family of then 40 ear-old Todd Schumacher went to his home to check on him, because he had not been feeling well and he was distraught over his missing dog. When they arrived, they found themselves in a horrific crime scene. While one person was knocking on the front door of the house, another saw a person look out the window at the top of the door that appeared to be Todd’s boyfriend, Matthew. They knocked on the front door and the back door, but nobody answered. They went to the carport door, through which they could see splatters of blood inside. After they broke into the house through the back door, they found "blood everywhere' in the kitchen. They went to the bedroom and saw the "Please send to heaven Todd + Matt." written in blood on the bedroom wall. Todd was lying naked on the floor "with chunks of flesh taken out of his body." They felt Todd's neck for a pulse and found that he was dead. Matthew was lying on the bed and fidgeting with something silver in his hand. Send us a text The Murder Police Podcast is a hobby for Wendy and David; a chance to speak with feeling about homicide investigations, the curiosity they draw and lift victims of violent crime up to be remembered with respect, as more that a Uniform Crime Reporting number or statistic. One goal from the beginning was that if the podcast ever generated any revenue, large or small, charitable giving would be a must. With the opening of a merch and store on the horizon in 2022, it was time. The Murder Police Podcast Focus Group, “The Squad”, was asked for suggestions for charities that had a broad reach helping victims of violent crime and their families. The Squad came through with many great suggestions with one standing out: The DNA Doe Project. Our decision was cinched up with our interview with Sgt. ‘Cat’ Catalano with the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office in California, as she detailed the identification of Patricia Skiple in April 2022. Patricia was an unidentified victim of the Happy Face serial killer and went 30 years without a name, though her killer was convicted of her murder. The DNA Doe project is a non-profit organization focusing on the identification of human remains. They work with law enforcement agencies to make specialized DNA sampling and testing and research to bring answers to family members and move cases forward. The DNA Doe project can be assisted through donation and or volunteering (imagine working a case and finding answers!). And a huge help is to upload your DNA test results to GEDMatch or Family Tree DNA to add to the database and improve the likelihood of identifying people. Take a listen to this episode and hear Cairenn Binder, the Director of the Director of Education and Development at DNA Doe Project, talk about the project and how we all can help. Send us a text In this 4th and final episode, you will here a great amount of detail. So much that we caution the listener and remind everyone that we should always focus on the victim and their surviving family and remember that graphic descriptions are only given on this podcast to set the context for challenges in investigations. For example, in cases where a body has decomposed, how are fingerprints taken? And if the condition is so poor that DNA sampling (over 20 years ago) cannot be made from the victim, are there alternatives? We move through the autopsy findings, more evidence, prosecution and even an appeal. And in the end, Paul Williams and Billy Richmond sum up most murders as attributable to greed, and the killer using a permanent solution to a temporary problem, destroying lives around them. As always, thank you for listening and remembering Mr. Aubrey Nuckolls. Send us a text If you have come this far, you definitely want to stay in the loop. In this episode you will hear about the profound impact good citizens coming forward with what seems like small details have on critical investigations like this one. For example, a storage shed manager not only finds it interesting that a particular shed gets an unannounced visit, but gets that visit after the cops were there. And, how many people have offered a place for a friend to store a car for a while? Who really solved cases? The detectives or the community? We learn about a house on DeWeese Street (and why it’s called a shotgun house of all things), and what roll it played in Aubrey’s kidnapping and murder. Interesting things are found from ammunition to dried blood. You will learn more about the suspect, who by the way wasn’t a talker with the law, and likely was more interested in scooting off to Mexico. And as an artist, did he find a new medium to create with? Like murder? Take a listen as Paul Williams and Billy Richmond look for a mystery gun, and find a car in a rural area, surrounded by dead grass. Send us a text The Murder of Aubrey Nuckolls | Part 2 of 4 In this episode, we hear detectives Paul Williams and Billy Richmond move the case further down the road. Who Aubrey Nuckolls is only gets more mysterious. A search of a storage unit becomes and eye opener, a search of a post office box leads to more interviews, phone records tick away at the case and an uncashed check reveals a relationship that was in the dark itself. And simple things, someone dropping a car off in a rural area and getting a ride home, prove to be major breaks in the case. Oh, and did me mention you might hear the name of a suspect? Send us a text On September 11, 1998, Officer Scott Blakely with the Lexington Police Department responded to call for service at a home in Lexington Kentucky. At the home, Officer Blakely met a woman that stated she had found an apparent ransom note tucked into the front door of her house, demanding $20,000 for the safe return of her husband, Aubrey L. Nuckolls, also know as ‘Al”. Al had not returned home from the day before. The note read: "Call his pager from a pay phone that rings. He is fine. Do not worry or call anyone!!" "Do as you are told!!!!". Officer Blakely contacted the Lexington Homicide Unit and Detectives Paul Williams, Billy Richmond, Craig Sorrell and David Lyons responded, along with FBI Special Agent John Whitehead. What followed in the search for Mr. Nuckolls was nothing short of a mystery, largely revolving the life of Mr. Nuckolls that was found to be complex and somewhat mysterious in itself. Join Wendy and David as they sit down with retired Sergeants Paul Williams and Billy Richmond as they recount the investigation. Send us a text We have all heard about those rare murder cases where a suspect is charged and convicted of murder, even though the victim’s body, was never found. There is another side of this case coin: a body, a suspect and a firm conviction in court, without knowing who this unidentified Jane Doe is It opens up another tragic tale that somewhere, someone is missing a family member or friend, who appeared to disappear. Add a few decades to this mystery, and it feel hopeless to even think about it. Of course the convicted suspect is known, a serial killer coined The Happy Face Killer named Keith Hunter Jesperson. This is the story of Patricia ‘Patsy’ Skiple, that was known as ‘Blue Pacheco’ to her Cold Case investigator, Detective Sergeant Shannon ‘Cat’ Catalano, with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office in California. Send us a text Sometimes, this thing called reality crashes into our lives. In February 2022, Wendy lost her literal best friend, Angie, to a Domestic Violence murder in Nicholasville Kentucky. Angie was shot to death by her husband, who turned the gun on himself and died at his own hand. The thing about True Crime is that it is alluring for so many reasons. Deciphering case details, maybe even asking ‘what I would do if I was a detective’, are part of a natural human curiosity. For most enthusiast, there is also the age old battle of wrapping our minds around the why when one human kills another. What is evil? But, when it comes to close to home… Over three episodes, Wendy tells a story that she never in a million years though she would be telling, much less, as a True Crime podcast host. She does though, and lifts Angie up for people to know, talks about the red flags that we see in domestic violence cases and the helplessness that friends might feel as things spiral downward as they watch. If you are a victim of any type of domestic violence abuse, get help right away. Your feeling of helplessness, lack of power, hopelessness and depression were likely cultivated in you by your abuser. There are answers. There are strategies. There is a better way. If you have a friend in this situation; be the friend they need. Send us a text On January 3, 1999 the mother of 28 year old Kecia Hughes filed a Missing Person Report in Lexington Kentucky, when she had gone for three days without hearing from her daughter. That same afternoon, police discovered Kecia deceased in her apartment that she shared with her husband. She had apparently been deceased for some time. This is a case that was the tragic culmination of a pattern of abuse, control and anger. Kecia had told her friends she was going to tell her husband she was leaving him; the most dangerous moment for many victims of domestic violence. Listen as your host David Lyons, recounts this case that he was assigned to as the lead homicide detective and learn about the suspect, a potentially valuable but failed alibi, jail-house witness statements and the appeals that followed in court. Most importantly though, learn about who Kecia, a daughter, sister and mother was and remember her with us. Send us a text Missing: Michael Keith Gorley | Part 1 of 2 | December 14, 2021 Missing: Michael Keith Gorley | Part 2 of 2 | December 21, 2021 On May 17, 2015, 38 year old Michael Keith Gorley, a son, a brother and a father, told his mother good bye as he left the house. Michael never returned home. He was last seen on Highway 300, or Knob Lick Road, in Stanford Kentucky. The Murder Police Podcast offers a two-part series on Michael’s missing case, to let people know who Michael is to his family, and to keep hope alive that he will be found. Michael’s family believes Michael is dead, already erecting a gravestone in the local cemetery and pre-paying for inevitable funeral arrangements. Michael’s case is particularly frustrating given that there is a witnessed last known location and tight time frame, however, the investigators and family also face a cold silence from people that potentially know what happened to Michael and where he is. Listen to these episodes to hear Michael’s mother, Sandra Hasty, and sister, Jennifer Gorley Coffey tell us who Michael is, and take us through the strange things that happened in the wake of his going missing. Also, we talk to retired career cop and now private investigator Mike Ward, about his role and efforts in locating Michael. Once you have listened, share this as much as you can, especially if you live anywhere near, or know anyone from Lincoln and Boyle Counites in Kentucky. Once you have listened, you will know why we ask. Shop for Murder Police Podcast swag by clicking HERE today! 10% of ALL swag and merch proceeds are donated to the DNA Doe Project . Send us a text On Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, 18-year-old newlywed Megan Nicole Liebengood, was callously shot to death in the parking lot of her apartment home in Lexington Kentucky. Megan was simply unloading groceries from her car, when she was accosted by suspects who later admitted, they were out to “hit a lick”: street slang for robbing someone. Somewhere around 10:30 PM they found their mark. A diminutive young woman. Easy prey for cowards. This 4-part mini-series is a heart felt conversation with Homicide Investigators Chris Schoonover and Rob Wilson. Chris and Rob will carry you through a brisk but highly detailed investigation that cleared the murder case. You will hear how they made their strategic and tactical decisions, using skills sets that you may not have heard of before to bring this case to an ethical and legal conclusion. More importantly, you will hear how this demonic, brutal, and senseless crime impacted those assigned to investigate it. Note: The listener will notice that the detectives did not name the suspects. Though they were juveniles prosecuted and convicted as adults, The Murder Police Podcast believes in protecting the record of these cleared cases and in cases like these, having the investigators not name the suspects is part of that effort. That said, links to several news stories and court records on our show notes report that Michael Merrall Shepherd, Robert Benton Miller and Patrick Lewis Cook, are the ones responsible for her death. Send us a text So, you want to be a crime scene specialist? A forensic scientist? A master of evidence procurement and analysis? This is for you. Even if you are not career searching, a True Crime fan will want to hear what this fascinating world is, by those that live there. For this 3-part mini-series, David and Wendy sat down with two forensic scientists from Kentucky State Police Forensic Services for a candid conversation that have made careers at the lab: Division Director Laura Sudkamp and Forensic Scientist Specialist II Marci Adkins. One of the big highlights of David’s time in homicide, was working with the professionals at Kentucky State Police Forensic Services. Everyone was always willing to go above and beyond. As a detective, everyone knew these people were clearly on the team. They were educational (yes, they would tell you whether you were in the right direction), and really took the protocols seriously to safely fact-find. As with any REAL team, many detectives and scientists got to know one another over the years, and instead of a just a name and a signature on a lab report, detectives knew just who they were. Unlike TV and Hollywood fantasy, the field of forensics is very real, and extremely dedicated people make careers in the industry; quietly seeking the truth and providing advocacy for crime victims. These episodes are for the true True Crime fan, that is interested in the mechanics of murder investigation, not just the salacious details of a murder. For those that are interested in entering the world of forensics as a career, this is a must listen! And as always on The Murder Police Podcast, we explore the personal side of this work, not just the technical. So, take a listen and make sure you tell your friends about these episodes, especially if they are interested in making a difference through an amazing career! Send us a text On July 28, 1986, firefighters and police responded to a fire at a restaurant in Lexington Kentucky called Columbia's on Alexandria Drive. When police arrived they found and removed a victim from the rear of the restaurant, which was fully on fire. Unfortunately, the male victim, Clay “Pally” Nelson was deceased. Officers quickly determined foul play was at hand and called for the detectives. Fran Root, with the Lexington Homicide Unit, responded to the scene. Listen to Fran describe this case in two episodes. A high speed car chase, a crash, money bags, blood stains, a stolen auto report, a gun, a knife, successful canine tracks; more evidence than you can shake a stick at. And most unique and rare of all the evidence, the murder victim offers testimony from the grave. These two episodes feature special guests from a fantastic podcast called The Lexington Podcast. Erica and Jonathan, a sister and brother team, jump right in the interview with Fran and bring great questions, perspective and energy to the case. Send us a text On May 8, 2012, 38 year old Bobbie Jean Blacka was found unresponsive in an apartment located in Keyser West Virginia. Bobbie Jean was pronounced dead at the scene. Within several hours, it was determined she likely died of a heroin drug overdose. Another overdose in a state that was seeing more overdoses than just about anywhere else. Was this “just another overdose” as we callously say these days? Maybe not. Listen to then-officer Bobby McKone describe an investigation that occurred after he responded and his experience and intuition told him “something is just not right”; like so many investigators discover. This mini-series is not only a commemoration of Bobbie Jean Blacka, a young woman battling addiction like so many other people, who lost her life and the opportunity to recover; it is a deep conversation about opiate addiction from the side of law enforcement, a snap-shot in 2014, in a state plagued with some of the highest mortality rates due to overdoses. You will also hear how these complex investigations are handled in smaller police departments, where specialization does not exists. This is where the detective’s heart and hunger are the driving force behind justice for crime victims. This is the real world for many police officers in the United States and for that matter, around the world. As a Murder Police Podcast mini-series, each of the 4 episodes will publish weekly, instead of the every-other-Tuesday schedule. Here are the dates. Send us a text One Night. Five Murders. “(what) told me right off the bat that it was going to be a bad night, was, Dr. Hunsaker gets up to the body, and he’s got his ditty bag, and amongst things is his camera equipment. And he gets his camera out, and he kinda focuses on a body, but then he immediately brings the camera straight up over his head, and shoots a picture of the full moon that’s over us.” Lead Homicide Investigator Fran Root On April 23, 1986, officers with the Lexington Police Department in Lexington Kentucky responded to a call of a dead body in town. Within a few hours, another call of a dead body, then another, and more. Four people were located dead, a fifth was taken to a hospital close by and died a short time later. All five dead at the hands of the same suspects. Listen to an in-depth conversation with lead homicide investigator Fran Root in two episodes we have titled One night. Five Murders. You will learn how the suspects were identified and located (does luck have a place in an investigation?) and a description of how investigators assembled the timeline of a series of murders, a killing spree, through interview after interview. Listeners will also get a front row seat to hear how much preparation goes into a trial for a bizarre crime like this, and, the importance of victim advocacy in our criminal justice system. Send us a text On July 14, 1994, University Kentucky football player Trent DiGiuro, was enjoying his birthday party at his home on Woodland Avenue in Lexington Kentucky, near the university. Friends asked Trent what the sound was, and when he did not respond, they found him injured and unresponsive. After help was called and arrived, Trent was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead within 30 minutes of arriving at the hospital. Part 2 of a 2-part series, offers then Sergeant Dan Gibbons, who was the sergeant of the Homicide Unit with the Lexington Police Department in 1994, describing the investigation from the supervisor’s perspective. Send us a text The 1999 murder of 13 year old Haley McHone in Lexington Kentucky by rail-riding serial killer Tommy Lynn Sells. Part 3 summarizes the prosecution strategy regarding Tommy Lynn Sells, discussed by Ray “The D.A.” Larson. Show notes can be found HERE . Transcript (please forgive minor errors): David: Warning, the podcast you're about to listen to may contain graphic descriptions of violent acts and injury. Listener discretion is advised. Wendy: Welcome to the Murder Police Podcast. Wendy: Well, we're back again. David, won't you tell me where we left off on episode two? David: When we finished that one we had just learned who the killer was and got amazing details from Detective Schoonover when he interviewed that serial killer, it was fantastic. And on this next episode what we're going to finish off with for this one is the legal process, a really good discussion about how this was handled through the court case, and inevitably what happened to Tommy Lynn Sells. Det. Chris Schoonover: With Tommy Lynn Sells, and people like him, you can't put your brain in their thought pattern because they don't don't think the same as every normal human being. David: Absolutely, absolutely. Ray: So did you arrest him? Det. Chris Schoonover: He was already arrested, so this is where you come in. I come back with the recorded, I would say admission, and with a swab of his DNA, and I present the case to your office. Ray: And you had assurance that he wasn't going to get out? Det. Chris Schoonover: Yes, he was in Texas, and he was charged with murder of a teenage girl and an attempted murder of a brave 10 year old, and we'll get to that later, hopefully you'll ask me about her. So I come back to you, I present the case to you, and much like another case that you handled you said, "Well let's see what Texas does, because I like their legal process. We'll talk to the family, see what's best for the family in this situation, and you'll get back with me, it's on you now." That's your exact words. David: It always is that way. Wendy: Well speaking of the girl, I have to, not ruin, but as I've told you, I've been so interested in this case ever since I learned about it, I just couldn't fathom a lot of the things that I had read in one of the books on him, and researching some of the stuff online, the videos of him and his interviews with various people. I found a video on that girl as a young adult, the 10 year old, and she described when he came in that room, you're right, she was hoping that he wouldn't see her, and he turned back to give one last look and that's when he caught her glance, and she
