In this episode of the Mostly All Figured Out podcast, I sit down with Chad Williams, founder of the clothing brand dooProcess . Chad opens up about his journey from growing up in a large, close-knit family in Brooklyn to moving to Buffalo to attend Buffalo State University. Wrestling played a huge role in his life, and although an injury altered his athletic path, Chad's resilient mindset carried him forward. Chad shares the powerful and emotional story of being wrongfully arrested while trying to help a friend—an experience that deeply impacted his education and work life. This challenging time ignited his passion for justice reform and inspired him to create dooProcess , a street-wear clothing brand that donates 15% of sales to social justice organizations. Through our conversation, Chad talks about the importance of family, turning obstacles into opportunities, and how fashion has become his powerful medium for storytelling and advocacy. He also offers a glimpse into Buffalo's vibrant and growing fashion scene and the role community engagement plays in his mission. Chad's story is a testament to staying grounded, embracing life's challenges, and living life freely. In this episode, I'm sharing a simple practice that's already made a huge difference in keeping me on track with my goals — a monthly review. Taking about an hour at the end of each month to reflect has helped me stay accountable, identify where I fell short, and create a plan to overcome obstacles in the month ahead. For example, I wasn’t as consistent with podcasting this month as I’d hoped. To fix that, I’m putting some new systems in place — like working with a podcast editor (shoutout to Jake!), scheduling a batch of interviews in advance, and shifting most future interviews to virtual. These changes will streamline my process and save so much time! I love sharing what’s working for me, and I hope this episode inspires you to try something similar. Y'all, today, I’m bringing you an episode that will resonate with anyone who's ever questioned their path, felt stuck in a role that didn’t quite fit, or wondered, What do I actually want my life to look like? I’m joined by the incredible Kate Welshofer —writer, speaker, content creator, and self-proclaimed mischief-maker. You may recognize her from her days as a TV news anchor, most recently as the host of Most Buffalo on WGRZ. Now, she's a content creator, the creative force behind The Secret Monster Project, and the Communications and Content Strategist for the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, NY. Kate is all about spreading joy, embracing change, and proving that it’s never too late to rewrite your story . In this episode, Kate opens up about: ✨ The winding road that took her from news anchor to content creator ✨ The power of just doing something you enjoy —without attaching pressure to the outcome ✨ How breaking away from societal expectations allowed her to truly find herself ✨ Why making a change doesn’t have to mean having it all figured out (#amiright!?) Alright, let’s be real—vision boards can feel a little cringe . Cutting out magazine quotes like “Be Brave” and slapping them on a poster doesn’t magically make you brave (trust me, I’ve tried). But here’s the thing: vision boards can actually work—if you do them right. In this episode, I’m breaking down: ✨ Why your past vision boards might’ve been a total flop ✨ The one small tweak that made mine actually work ✨ How I used a vision board to manifest my dream home (spoiler: it wasn’t magic, but it was kinda wild) ✨ The key to picking images that actually get you results ✨ Why you should focus on one goal at a time (I know it's hard but trust me on this) I promise—this isn’t just another fluffy “believe and receive” talk. We’re getting practical about how to use vision boards in a way that feels good and gets results. We've all heard it a million times— "Gratitude is life-changing!" "You need a gratitude practice!" "It’ll shift your mindset, attract abundance, and transform your life!" But… does it really work? For me, the answer has been a resounding yes . What started as a 28-day gratitude journey at the beginning of the year has turned into something I never want to stop. Along the way, I’ve experienced incredible shifts—some small, some truly life-changing. In this episode, I’m sharing some of the wins I’ve seen firsthand, plus the simple yet powerful tools I’ll be carrying with me long after the "challenge" is over. Gratitude isn’t about ignoring the hard stuff—it’s about finding the good even when things feel uncertain. It’s a way to break free from negativity, to see the beauty and possibility that already surround us. I truly believe that recognizing and appreciating what’s working in our lives can create even more good. I hope this episode gives you ideas on how to weave gratitude into your own life in a way that feels effortless and real. I still can't believe this interview actually happened. I fell in love with Ellie's voice before I had the chance to meet her and fall in love with her as a human. In this episode, she shares what it was like being a kid in high school who knew with explicit certainty what she wanted to be when she grew up. She talks about the importance of setting and enforcing boundaries, sticking up for yourself, and the transformative power of taking time off the grid to connect with yourself. I didn’t know it at the time, but so much of our conversation ties into her latest single, Woman , released in October. If you haven’t already, search for "Ellie Banke" wherever you listen to music and give it a spin—it’s the perfect prequel to this episode. Ellie also opens up about redefining femininity and womanhood on her own terms, breaking free from societal norms, and embracing the freedom that comes with it. This is a conversation you don’t want to miss. If you love it as much as I do, please share, follow, and stream Ellie’s music—she deserves all the love and listens! Hello, hello! This episode was originally recorded in April 2024. And what a year 2024 was! Sadly, not a year with this podcast interview in it. But here it is now! The guest is Sarah Baird, Executive Director or Let There Be Light International , an organization that along with local NGO partners helps people in off-grid Africa to gain access to solar energy in their homes and frontline health clinics. In this episode we talk about the many fascinating twists and turns her life has taken over the years - from making a blood pact to become a comedian with her sister, to getting a masters in Russian studies, to stay-at-home moming, to creating an organization impacting millions of people through the power of solar light. This is a great conversation and will definitely inspire you to ride the wave of life and be open but also intentional about whatever direction it takes you in. Enjoy! Happy New Year! I'm sure I say this every year but I cannot believe it's 2025. Like... what??? We are five years from 2030 I cannot get over this. Anyway 😅 this episode is a solo update on where I'm at and what the podcast is going to look like this year. I also talk about my favorite New Year's ritual - picking a theme word for the year. I highly recommend this as a way to keep yourself grounded in the energy you want to live in this year. It's a significantly more realistic way to set an intention for your year versus the old New Year's resolutions. Leave those behind and find your word! In this episode, I sat down with Executive Chef Malik Von Saint of Harvest Restaurant at Bent's Opera House in Medina. Chef talked about his journey growing up in the industry, and the people and places that had an impact on him. As the leader in his fine dining kitchen now, he uses all the things he's learned along the way to usher the next generation of culinary creators. He shared how difficult it is to live the lifestyle of a chef, especially with maintaining an intimate relationship. We also talked about how making small changes in his routines and starting therapy really made a big difference for him. In the episode, Chef references "A Cook's Tour" an event the benefits an organization called Family Meal , a nonprofit that emerged from a desire to support struggling hospitality industry workers. Be sure to check them out to support or look for support if you need it. Thanks for listening, please share it with your friends! Follow Chef Malik on IG: @malikvonsaint And get yourself to Harvest for a meal you will love, and a stay at Bent's Opera House ! I got to stay there with my sister and it was so lovely. Aaaaaaaaand we're back. I won't bore y'all with what life has been like the last couple of months that led to another podcast hiatus. Well, actually I will, but I'll save it for a solo episode. More importantly, I'm THRILLED to share my conversation with Justin Hofschneider of Wine on Hertel (WOH)! Justin and I met ages ago when he first soft opened WOH and I was "writing articles" for Step Out Buffalo. Sadly, the article I was supposed to write for his business was never written (sounds believable doesn't it?), but years later, he ended up dating my sister! And now he's the awesome Step Daddy J to my three nieces and my nephew. In our episode, we talked about his side of the story of their relationship (My sister Liz gave her side in the controversial episode #47) and how he transitioned from single business owner bachelor to doing school pick-ups and making dinners for 6. We also talk about how Wine on Hertel began and the slow process it was to making it what it is today - coming up on year 10! We talked a lot about perspectives and the importance of taking nothing for granted. There are lessons around every corner if you are open to learning them. Hope you enjoy this episode, and if you do, please share! Follow Wine on Hertel on IG: @wineonhertel And be sure to stop by for a glass of wine and some delicious tapas! Finally , I give you, the long-anticipated, fascinating conversation with the one and only, Sean Wrafter. Sean and I recorded this back in April of this year which honestly feels like another lifetime to me. Sean is the co-owner of Acme Cabinet Company . Before that, he designed and built furniture and commercial fixtures at his furniture store called Wrafterbuilt. He's worked in construction, inside and outside sales and marketing, and many other things in-between. We talked about his career trajectory but also got into the difficulty of finding a good therapist, changing the narrative in your friends' group to help you stick to your health and self-care goals, the importance of being present, and so much more. OMGGGGG I am so happy to be back 😭 Wow I missed this podcast, I missed talking into the mic alone, I missed sharing great conversations with amazing people, wow wow wow. I can't let 4 months go by like that again. But, tbh, I had to. I share more in the episode, but it's been a wild 4 months of pushing to the finish line of this chapter of my life. It's been frustrating, sad, exciting, and scary all at once. We're still in it, but it's getting close. Also in this episode, I share exactly how I manifested my dream apartment. This was such a massive thing for me. I desperately wanted to find a place that felt like a real home for my boys. This has been a tough year for them, too. But also, leaving the house my ex and I bought together, the place where both my boys grew up, it's really the final nail in the coffin of this chapter, so I wanted to start over somewhere that made me feel joy, hope, and comfort. When I tell you this place is literally exactly what I wanted... I can't believe it, but also, I a little bit can. Have a listen, tell your friends the best podcast around is back on, and give yourself a hug cause you're doing a great fucking job. Chris Flynn of Bflo Pizza Bistro is on the podcast today! Y'all, I have been shook over how this podcast has opened doors to meeting new people doing really cool things. I met Chris while with a friend at Free Street Tavern. When he was introduced to me as the owner of Bflo Pizza Bistro, my first thoughts were - wow that is so cool, I need to know more about how he got to this point! However, it came out verbally as "what gave you the audacity to open a pizza shop in Buffalo?" Lol. Oopsie. Luckily he got what I meant and didn't take offense to it, we recorded a visually disastrous mini podcast right then and there at Free Street and then set up a time to do the real thing a couple weeks later. Chris and his buddies also started a major annual beloved Buffalo event - Buffalo Groundhog Day. They all seem to possess the "fuck around and find out" mindset that I am now obsessed with. I hope that listening to Chris talk about his journey inspires you to just do the damn thing - whatever it is for you. Cause why not!? David Gonzalez from Arbol and Arbol Community Fund is on the podcast today! David and I have known each other for a long time, and I have absolutely loved watching his career unfold, transition, and grow... especially from our days serving at Carrabba's Italian Grille. David co-founded Arbol, an online application that empowers college students to take action on their finances, providing an engaging experience that alleviates the anxiety of managing financial aid and personal finances. Ultimately it helps in reducing dropout rates. David has always had an entrepreneurial mindset, and has always prioritized his career. We talk about all the ups and downs, including the opportunities he created for himself. So many good nuggets in here for anyone looking to start a business or advance their career. Hey, y'all. It's been a weird week. I've been in a funk for no real reason. For me, when anxiety appears, it takes the form of a tight chest and decision paralysis. Which is why I'm posting this podcast at 10:45PM on the day it should be up. In this episode, I share how imposter syndrome and people-pleasing accosted me the last few days and the things I did tonight to help break me out of the spiral I've been sliding down. My brother is on the podcast today!! I know I say this a lot, but this really was one of my most favorite episodes to record, DEFINITELY my most favorite to edit, and it's such a good listen, too. John Marciniak is Marciniak #6 of the 9 of us, and he has been an entertainer since birth. I have proof weaved into this episode - I inserted a clip from a "Family Documentary" project I did in college and John was probably around 9-years-old then. He and my brother Tyler (#3) started their band years ago, first as "The Spaghetti Boys", and now as "Johnny & The Mankids". John has written over 30 songs, and we talk about where his inspiration comes from, his upcoming cross-country tour, and who in our family would make it in an apocalypse. I guarantee you can't listen to this without laughing through it, so be prepared to feel a lot of joy. Mike "Shooky" Ciesiulka, co-owner of JJ's Casa Di Pizza and fan-fave bartender at Free Street Tavern joined me in studio today! We got to record in Casa which was awesome ( check it out on the YouTube !) so apologies for some of the background noise/music - but I think it adds to the esthetic 🕺🏼 Mike and I talked about where he grew up, teaching CCD classes at OLBS in Depew, his career trajectory (he first started working at Casa Di Pizza when he was 16!), and things that bring him joy in day-to-day life. We also talked about his son Ethan, what made him such a special kid, and how Mike processed his grief after his loss and continues to do so. I'm so grateful to Mike for being open and willing to talk through everything we discussed, and I know for certain everyone who listens will too. Enjoy! This one is a biiiiiiiiiiit personal, some might argue, a bit too personal? I bring my sister on and consume two bottles of wine while we talk dating in 2024. Definitely not one for the kids, ensure there are no children around that can hear this when you do. Trust and believe the public podcast will not have content like this again 😅 But once I officially launch the Patreon (a membership platform that you will be able to sign up for to get extra content and some fun goodies from me!), this will be a series where Lizzy and I consume alcohol and hash something out. SO if you like it, stay tuned for that official membership launch. Just to be clear I am a nice person I just like a good back and forth, a little debate if you will 😂 Anyway, enjoy this one. This episode went on a lot longer than I thought it would 😂 I've been doing a lot of putting my money where my mouth is over the last year and I have started seeing some really great results from it. So in this episode I share where I've been investing my time, energy and money, in the hopes that it'll inspire you to do the same for yourself. Composting, recycling, landfills... oh my! I finally got my episode with sustainability engineer John Atkinson! Recycling has always been such a mystery to me so I was grateful to be able to ask some of the questions that have been swirling around my brain for a while. It turns out that recycling IS in fact important. We actually do make a difference when we do it properly. Additionally, we should all be composting. John walks us through how and what that looks like, which again before this convo was a complete mystery to me. I still have to get my compost bucket but I WILL get it and I'll share on the gram once I do. Hope you enjoy this episode and that it gives you some good tips for managing your own waste better! We're trying something new this week! YouTube. Can you believe? It's been confirmed from our guru at the Buffalo Public Library, the brilliant Jordan, that we can use camera equipment there! So that means sometimes you will see us recording with guests in the library, and other times you will see me in the studio in my home office. And still, other times, you are gonna see me god knows where because I occasionally bring the mic to wherever our guests are. This week we're in my log cabin living room. Never again 😂 In this episode, I share a couple of things I *actually* do to prepare for a new year. Please ignore the episode I did last year with eight ridiculous steps that got me nowhere. What are your New Year rituals? Thanks for listening and supporting y'all. Solo episode today, baby. In this episode I discussed 3 passages from the book "Untamed" by Glennon Doyle, a book I now truly feel all women should read, especially women going through a major life transition. I talk about guiding kids through tough times, how there is racism in all of us (did I stutter), and that living a truly magical life takes courage. I'm so happy I am doing this again, y'all. Like you have no idea how much this fills my soul right up. Episode 2 of this season was actually recorded at the tail end of season 1, before I knew that I really had to take a break. Josh White and I had a great convo about the journey that brought him to owning Free Street Tavern , an awesome spot on Niagara Street for a cocktail or a beer, and the chillest vibes. I was super excited to hear about how he did it after hearing that he had been working in the service industry for always, and had two young kids (and a super supportive wife). He may not know what affirmations are, but he knows how to run a good bar you'll want to keep coming back to, haha. Hope you enjoy the episode! This week's episode was recorded in the fabulous Mercury Salon in Allentown with salon owner, my hairdresser for years, and most importantly, my friend and fairy godmother, Felicia Cardinale! To know Felicia, is to love Felicia. Unless you've crossed her, then GOD SPEED. She is as real as they come and though she's dealt with some heavy trials in life, she still makes room in her heart for everyone else's trials and troubles to be hashed over in her salon. A self-proclaimed "hair-apist", she pulls on her own past experiences and healing journey to help her clients as best she can, even if that's just with a nonjudgmental listening ear. While she might not be able to fix all your problems, she certainly can fix your hair. We talk current hair trends, the importance of continued training and learning in cosmetology, a life-changing decision she made to kick something out of her house, and so much more! Hope you enjoy this episode with this truly magical human! My guest today is an absolute boss. The first time I ever met her, I was like, who is this Disney princess with sparkling eyes and perfect hair. But wait, she’s also hilarious. Hold on, additionally, she’s wicked smart and most definitely, a cool mom. She is the owner of Handmade by Harrisons, which you can find at local vendor and craft markets near you, to pick up their signature Buffalo Bills denim jackets, shirts, and so much more. She co-hosts the Saucy Book Club podcast. She is the mom of a future activist and justice warrior no doubt, named Harrison. An active member of the local Moms Demand Action group and she works the polls at all our elections to make sure we can vote safely and securely, AND oh yeah, her full-time job is as Development Manager for the American Cancer Society. Meet, my friend, and human who inspires me all the time, Dylyn M Harrison! We talked about parenting and having tough conversations about the state of the world with our little ones, what it looks like in Albany on lobby days (she just came back from one the day before we recorded this!), and how critical it is to just say "no" in the pursuit of your own peace and happiness. EVERYONE: there is a very special guest on the podcast today. In fact, the most specialist guest, aka my very best friend, Alex Hamberger. Today, Alex gives a 101 on the current climate as it relates to LGTBQ+ rights. Specifically, as it relates to the over 420 pieces of proposed legislation currently working their way through State houses that are anti-LGBTQ+, with a large number specifically denying trans folx rights. This episode was very informative for me, and gave me ideas on how to support my trans friends during this really scary time. Hope you enjoy this episode with a person I love very much! Y'all. I had no idea how lucky I was about to be with this week's episode. I went to my friend's house to learn how to decorate cakes and ended up meeting one of the coolest people! Jason Gonzalez is on the podcast this week, a Buffalo transplant from New Jersey (most recently), who was a professional dancer for 25 years and then changed careers through culinary school becoming a professional baker and caterer! Missy Stolfi on the podcast today! Oh man, I love this human. Missy and I met working at American Cancer Society in 2014, and we’ve both been on a career journey since then. What a treat it was to talk about some of her journey in the last few years, navigating big career changes, moving to different cities, and choosing herself through it all. Outside influences can make it very hard to trust your gut and listen to yourself, but Missy has done just that, in spite of the fear. We're back at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library today! I was so honored and happy to have Jill Fecher in the hot seat this week. Jill is the Chief Growth Officer at Cypress North , a digital marketing agency that absolutely slays at web development. As a freelancer, I've often wondered what it would be like to ditch regularly scrambling for clients and join a team where I could focus more on the work, but I didn't feel like I really understood agencies or agency culture. We get into that and so much more in this episode! Wondering what to do and what not to do in an interview? Jill has some examples! We also talk about what type of talent mid-sized marketing agencies, like Cypress North, are really looking for. Many laughs were had and great tips given for moving forward in any career. Hi hi! We are quickly approaching the end of 2022. Can. You. BELIEVE!? I barely can. But I cannot wait to sit down over the remaining weeks of this year and really reflect on all of it. In this very quick baby episode, I share a tradition my husband and I started back in 2018 as a joke, but now do at the end of every year with purpose behind it. This year I was more intentional about it than I've ever been, and I am so happy to report back that it actually paid off! I hope you give it a try. Also, I prerecorded this episode before shipping off to England and really truly thought it would be released on Dec 23rd. So apologies for the confusion there, lol. Cheers from Sunny Southport, UK! Hello hello! I am thankful. I am thankful for this podcast, and to you for reading this! And even more so if you listen to this episode. Did I record this the night of Thanksgiving? Yes. Was I tipsy when I recorded this? Yes. Yes, I was. I shared something we have been dealing with over the last week with our little guy and his health. Talked about my frustration with the fact that I need to struggle to level up. And shared some of the things I'm grateful for this year. Like literally all of my other episodes, this is not perfect! But times ten because I recorded using my MacBook Pro built-in mic and it was post-Thanksgiving festivities. I wasn't about to skip it though... ya'll know that by now. Hope you enjoy. Cheers! My guest on episode #11 was born on October 11. I see 1111 all the time, but I feel warm and grateful every single time I do. My college friend Tanner Gelatt joined me for this episode to talk about what brought him from Cooperstown to Buffalo, and led to him being one of the biggest Bills fans and Buffalovers I know. We also talked about how the chaos of this world became a catalyst for deciding to take control of his physical and emotional health with a new daily workout habit: spinning with Peloton. I adore this human and was so happy to have time with him that I now get to share with you - enjoy! Follow Tanner on IG here . Learn more about the Volunteer Lawyers Project here . Y'all. You are really in for a treat this week, if I do say so myself. I was so honored to host Chef Tierra Josey and her wife, Lena Josey, to the studio this week! We talked about Chef's ghost kitchen, SZN, and what the path looked like that led her to launch it. We discussed not letting other people's labels for you stop you from believing that you are capable of your dreams. We talked about the inspiration for one of their newest menu items - a peach cobbler egg roll, and consequently how it almost resulted in Chef Josey wearing sweatpants to their wedding. And we talked about the importance of surrounding yourself with like-minded, positive, and ambitious thinkers. All this, and SO much more, with a ton of laughs in between. Happy listening! Help chef reach her goal of 2,000 followers by the end of the year and follow SZN on IG here ! Order from their ghost kitchen located at Mass Ave Project here. You will not regret it. EVERYONE! My guest this week is Harper Bishop !! He is a writer, photographer, community organizer, and activist. He has held roles at the Institute on Religion and Public Policy, Buffalo First, for Councilmember Michael J LoCurto, Coalition for Economic Justice, PUSH Buffalo, Our City Action Buffalo, and more. He co-founded, and is now a board member, for Cooperation Buffalo, an organization that trains and educates in cooperative economics and supports the start-up of worker-owned businesses. In this episode, we talked about what it takes for a person to change their deeply rooted beliefs. Harper shared with us a broad overview of what it means to work as a community organizer and explained what poet and activist Audre Lorde meant when she said that no one lives "single - issue lives". He also shared about what it was like to meet AOC and work alongside India Walton during her incredible run for Buffalo Mayer in 2021. All this, and SO much more. Hope you enjoy! I swear I did have a guest planned for this week! And actually, I got one. Just not the one I thought. Here's what you can expect: me reallyyyyy drilling it in that, in the words of Rick Astley, I'm never gonna give you up . And by you, I mean posting this podcast every week. But I also talk about the negative effects of choosing comfort over pushing ourselves. There's a time and a place for both... what time and place are you in now? Then I called my sister! And she picked up. So I asked her what her dream life would be like in 5 years and it turned into a great chat about personal drive and how to get ourselves slowly, slowly to that ideal self. Hope you enjoy! Check out Liz on IG here . Check out Amanda and cheer her on for her future podcast here ! Lucky number 7! So sorry to be late getting this out, but literally nothing was going to stop me from posting it on Friday. Though many things tried! I kick off the episode by explaining why I had to get to the studio and record in spite of the fact that I was hanging on by a thread. And then I pose a challenge to you. Next, I asked on IG for folks to share their 'fail forward' stories of times when things didn't go the way they hoped or planned but it led to a much better outcome or a good lesson. I got some great stories that I hope you enjoy as much as I did. I also shared one of my stories from the beginning of my career in fundraising, and frankly, I still cringe when I think about it 😬. Back again with another solo episode! This week I convince you (me) that I am not going to let myself skip posting a weekly podcast for a full year. For real. WE'RE IN IT TO WIN IT. I also shared more about my love for the Insight Timer app , including my favorite teacher on there, Kenneth Soares. I listen to this recording of his just about every single day. My 7-year-old listens to Max, Bee, & the Troll King sleep story every night, too. We both highly recommend! I also shared that Jax and I will often listen to kids affirmations on the way to school. I LOOOOOVE doing this with him in the morning! Here's the one we listen to in Spotify . I hope you feel inspired and find something that helps you after listening to this episode. Thanks, friends! Is it normal for solo episodes to be scarier than episodes with a guest? My brain literally ping-ponged throughout this convo. Hopefully, it gives you a little insight into who's hosting this thing. I give a real quick and oddly professional timeline as if I am interviewing for a job. I also share the first ever voicemail my English hubby ever left me (it got him a first date), some things I've learned this year about myself and self-sabotage, and end with my own round of rapid-fire questions. Pour yourself a glass of wine for this one (it was my Birthday after all), and cheers to yourself because you're a star. My girl, Ciara Rayshall , is our guest on the podcast this week! And she brought along one of the most adorable things she's ever made, if I do say so myself, her 6-month-old daughter, Kali. We talked being a mom in 2022, why it's so hard to justify doing nice things for yourself, and how we both struggle with giving ourselves permission to ask for help and the space to nurture our creativity. We talked about her poetry book, " In All the Ways ", and about the turning point in her life that lead her to a unique and deeply personal relationship with God. Or should I say "Godbae"? Ciara is an actual ray of sunshine, and she has been inspiring women all over the globe with mantras, affirmations, and spiritual guidance and messages for years. I'm so honored to call her a friend and to share some of her story with you! Purchase Ciara's first poetry book on Amazon here . Ben Siegel is our guest on the podcast this week! Ben is many things, but we talked most about his identity as a writer. He has written over 500 pieces for The Buffalo News as a theatre and arts critic here in Buffalo, but he has much, much more inside of him. As the full-time Director of Communications for PUSH Buffalo , Ben talked about the challenges of balancing work and life responsibilities with carving out creative time for yourself. He shared some of his sources of inspiration and gave a humbling peak into what his creative process looks like (hint: it's messy and takes a while... thank goodness we're not the only ones). Do you consider yourself a writer or creator? I think this luxurious conversation will resonate with you too. Sam Scarcello is the guest on the podcast today! Sam is the Head baker and one of two partners at Public Espresso + Coffee . Sam's career path has been anything but linear, going from used book thrifting, to farmers market tabling, to working in a marketing agency, to now running a business with 40+ staff members. Plus he makes a mean cruller. We talked about how he and his partner, James Rayburg, got Public Espresso started, how he went from handling the branding and marketing side of the business to running the bakery and food operations, and what the long-term goal is for him both personally and professionally. And so much more!! Follow Public Espresso + Coffee on IG @ publicespresso. Follow Sam on IG @ samtheebaker. Here is it! Podcast number TWO. Let me tell you all the reasons I almost didn't post it: 1. The editing is shottier than last time. 2. It turns out the library's studio is not quite soundproof. Sorry about the background talk/noise, UGH!! 3. I thought of 17 other better questions to ask and responses to have after we stopped recording. 4. I didn't have time to listen to the full episode again after 1 round of editing. SCARED. And here is why I posted it anyway: we're all just trying to figure it out, and if we wait until things are perfect, we'll be dead. So here we go! Please bear with me as I fine-tune my podcaster skills along the way. Here is it! Podcast number ONE. Let me tell you all the reasons I almost didn't post it: 1. The editing is shotty. 2. There is no jingle at the beginning or end. 3. In fact there is no music at all. Should I get some? 4. I don't really tell you much about myself. But we will get to know each other as we go on here. 5. I'm not crazy about my podcast art yet. Any graphic designers wanna help me out? 6. I'm scared of being judged and that it isn't good enough. And here is why I posted it: we're all just trying to figure it out, and if we wait until things are perfect, we'll be dead. So here we go!
