Send us a text "God is calling you to do something that's going to stretch you." ~Rachel G. Scott In today's season wrap up, I'm sharing a thought-provoking conversation I had on Moody Radio Cleveland about Moses and his reluctance to fulfill God's calling. Moses' encounter with God on the mountain is well-known, but what often goes unnoticed is his internal struggle with the task at hand. Many people can relate to feeling uncomfortable and resistant when called to do something that stretches them. However, obedience is key, even when we don't want to do what God is asking of us. Let's talk about some lessons we can learn from Moses journey. Send us a text "Watch and see where God is working and join him in his work.. " - Christopher Beth How do you handle that unsettling feeling of needing to do more but not knowing how or what to do? In today's episode, our guest Christopher Beth, founder of The Bucket Ministry, shares his journey of leaving a successful career in business consulting to dedicate his life to serving others and providing clean water. After a life-changing trip to the Brazilian Amazon, Christopher witnessed the devastating effects of unclean water and felt called to make a difference. He discovered a water filter that could provide clean water and also serve as a tool to introduce people to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christopher and his team have since served over a million people and are committed to expanding their impact. Christophers’s Bio Christopher Beth is the Founder, Chief Storyteller and Director of The Bucket Ministry, a nonprofit organization that works to provide the love of Jesus and clean water solutions to communities in need around the world. Prior to founding The Bucket Ministry, Christopher worked as a business consultant. He had no intentions to enter full-time ministry until he accompanied his then-high school daughter on a mission trip to the Brazilian Amazon in 2012. While on the first stop on the Amazon River, Christopher witnessed the devastating effects of a lack of access to clean water on communities there when a woman asked him if he was thirsty. He watched her grab glasses, walk to the edge of the river and collect two dirty cups of water. Realizing he couldn’t drink this contaminated water, it was in this moment he heard the Lord say to him, “Help them.” He returned home from the mission trip with a conviction to somehow merge the two great scarcities of God and water into one ministry. Thus, The Bucket Ministry was born. Since founding The Bucket Ministry in 2015, Christopher has expanded the ministry’s work beyond the Amazon to actively evangelize and provide water filters to over 20 countries. The Bucket Ministry’s mission is to share God’s love through the gift of safe, clean, drinking water; and Christopher has every intention to realize that mission in every place lacking its spiritual and physical blessings. He is a graduate of The University of Kansas and has been married to his wife Sheri for nearly 30 years. They live in a small town outside Dallas, Texas, and have two children, Savannah and Griffin, grandson Eli, granddaughter Hazel and a new one on the way. We got to the point, once we had decided that we were moving, one of them decided they were going to ask around to see if somebody else would adopt them so they could stay. Wow, that was a tough, tough time." - Sam Sprunger Sam's Bio I am 43 years old, and live in NW Ohio. My wife, our 4 sons, and two basset hounds moved almost 2 years ago from NE Indiana, where I had lived my entire life. We are huge Chicago Cubs fans, and yes, the best day of our lives was November 2, 2016! : ) I have taught, online, for 4 years, and also have hosted a podcast for almost just as long! The 500 Section Lounge is the product of my wife telling me that I needed to socialize, after I started my online teaching. I decided that I loved to talk, so a podcast made a perfect fit, in my mind! So, October 3, 2019, I started my podcast career. It worked out well, because that next March, we all knew the world came to a screeching halt. One thing that didn't stop was people were still willing, and had SO MUCH TIME, to do interviews! I am the type of person who will talk to absolutely anyone, anywhere, anytime! I love conversing and finding out more about people! There are plenty of times that I will talk, upwards of 5 minutes, to the worker in the check-out line! If we have something to do, my wife will tell me that I can go get the car, so I don't make us late! I just became a grandparent on October 12, 2022! I go by Pops! I didn't want to be grandpa... Pops was fitting for me! I love being Pops! My wife and I love going to our boys' events. It's our "relaxation" time! We love seeing our boys performing. Send us a text Balancing Motherhood and Your Calling in Ministry Motherhood is a beautiful gift, yet we can easily begin to feel guilty if we feel called to do other things or step into other roles. As moms, we often need to be reminded that it's okay for us to function in our positional and missional responsibilities. Our positional responsibility is our role as a mom, while our missional responsibility is the calling outside the family. Sometimes they coexist and other times they are parallel to one another. Join this conversation with Jenn Uren and get equipped to live and leap. Jenn is a mom of five kids and the host of This Mom Knows Podcast. Inspired by her love for home organization, she helps moms lean into what God has called them to do by creating a home that runs smoothly to support their mom-plus lifestyle. In this episode, she shares how understanding her positional and missional responsibilities allowed her to follow her calling and still show up as a mom without feeling guilty. She also shares how she balances her business, podcast, and family to keep their home running, and to have the physical and mental space to work on her passion projects. If you feel overwhelmed by being the mom you were created to be giving the best to your family while trying to pursue your calling, this episode is for you. Now let’s jump in! Send us a text When we take the time to reflect on the past season, we will often identify patterns of behavior we have or have picked up along the way. These patterns can be helpful or harmful depending on where they came from and how they are impacting our lives. As this year is coming to a close, it's time to look back at all the achievements, hurdles, and lessons learned in our personal, business, and spiritual lives and see how we can grow and learn from them. In this episode, your host, Rachel, celebrates a full year of spreading the love of Christ through Taking the Leap Podcast. It has not been a walk in the park, but by the grace of God, she has made it through. Over the last year, Rachel has climbed mountains, walked in valleys, and experienced some refining moments that taught her valuable life lessons, which she shares with us. Listen to the ten leaping lessons she learned, and be inspired to take your leap. She also reveals plans for next year and how you can be part of the success in spreading the gospel of Christ. You are not God [15:00] Manipulative blessings do not multiply [15:48] You don’t need to have it all figured out to get started [16:20] God’s way is right, and His timing is always perfect [16:52] A quick recap [17:58] What to expect in the coming year [20:53] Wrap up and calls to action Notable Quotes Any door we desire to go through according to God’s will is unlocked by our obedience. Send us a text Navigating Unwanted Pivots in Necessary Seasons Pivots are moments in your life that are significant, challenging, or disruptive. You may have had a moment where you woke up one day and realized the past few years of your life hadn't been the best, and now you're ready to start doing things differently. There are other times when you feel things are going well and according to plan. And then suddenly, another season comes, with a different type of change, at a time you least expect. You may find yourself struggling because of this unwanted pivot or season, but how do you decide whether the path is God’s will? Join the conversation with Monet Carpenter as she shares with us about navigating unwanted pivots and necessary seasons in life, experiencing growth outside of the church community, and how to respond to God’s ideas that feel outside of our wheelhouse. Monet lives in Alabama with her best friend and husband, Josh. Together they’re raising two kiddos in a house full of lots of noise, crumbs, and many baskets of clean but unfolded laundry. Monet lives the messy, unspoken parts of life openly to encourage other women that they, too, can embrace wholeness despite their brokenness. In 2021, Monet launched Purposed Box, a monthly subscription box business inspiring women to live “purposed” lives right where they are. Balance means different things at different times. God allows things to happen to you so that you can have a testimony. When you get the person, purpose, and passion right, it's easier to go through the formative period, where many entrepreneurs fail. Most entrepreneurs fail in the formative stage because the honeymoon phase is not nailed down correctly. The honeymoon phase is crucial because it gives you the roots, strength, and competence to go through pain. Your calling will always look different from somebody else’s calling. If you are called to family, lean on that and focus on it, it’s the building block of society. Your call is much bigger than you think. Taking a leap of faith comes with a reward; God will take you to your field of favor, just like Ruth. You have been great in that season, but you’ve outgrown it because God is inviting you to the next leadership role. Leaps require faith, and if you believe in God, He is saying yes and knows how to get the resources to you. As Christians recognizing that we have different outlets and being authentic in our message without withholding our truth is key. Although, we all have opinions and perspectives, most of us don’t hold onto our truth enough, especially when we feel something is weird and want to exclude it from our conversations out of fear of how we will be perceived if we talk about it. “We need to talk about it all from a Christian lens and provide a resolution. We’re called to the truth, and it should always be the baseline for everything we do, whether it’s on social media, podcasting, blogging, or working in a media company” - Billy Hallowell. Join the conversation with Billy Hallowell as he shares how he got involved in journalism, the struggle of wanting to pursue things for God but becoming distracted by pursuing things for himself, and how talking about taboo and difficult topics gives an opening to speak and give life into someone else's. Billy is a journalist, commentator, and digital TV host who has covered thousands of the biggest faith and culture stories. He has written over 14,000 stories on faith, culture, and politics, interviewed hundreds of celebrities, authors, and influencers, and is the author of four books. He is currently a journalist and host with CBN News and Faithwire and was formerly the director of content and communications at Pure Flix and the former faith and culture editor at TheBlaze. If you are curious about how you can look at life and advance through a faith lens, this episode is for you! Tune in! During this episode, you will learn about: [00:30] Episode intro and a quick bio of the guest [01:44] Billy’s background and what he does in the faith media space [02:59] Billy’s life before and how he became involved in the faith media [06:22] The nagging desire that drew Billy to media from a tender age [07:56] How we get distracted wanting to make a name for ourselves [09:51] The moment that shifted Billy to pursuing things for God and not himself [11:46] How Billy was able to gauge one good opportunity from the next big opportunity [15:07] A bit about journalism and how Billy combines his faith into that [17:52] Holding to the truth enough when getting your perspective out through media [19:34] Billy’s book, Playing With Fire, and the reactions he received from people [22:20] Why we need to be mindful of what we exclude because we’re afraid to talk about it
